7/7 - Where Were You?

Postby Alexiandra » Tue Jul 07, 2015 12:18 pm

Today marks the tenth anniversary of the 7 July, 2005 bombings against London's public transport system. The attacks killed 52 innocent people, wounded many more, and irrevocably changed the lives of thousands across this tiny island we call home.

So, NSG, by way of remembrance, I ask you this - where were you when news of the attacks broke?
'A distinction is made in private life between what a man thinks and says of himself and what he really is and does. In historical struggles one must make a still sharper distinction between the phrases and fantasies of the parties and their real organisation and real interests, between their conception of themselves and what they really are.'

I was in primary school.

I can't believe terrorism is still a thing in our country in my lifetime, especially after the peace talks in Northern Ireland.
But at the same time, it's over-reported and of course we are to blame for Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan's losses.

I was in secondary school, Year 11 I think. I remember it very well, the English teacher announced it to the class and managed to find some terrible old tv to plug in so we could watch it on the news with awful reception.

I meant terrorism in general you cunt.
Before Islamic terrorism, the IRA essentially were the biggest threat to national security on the grounds of terrorism.

I was on work experience at the time and too tied up with myself to really understand the details until much later.

I was supposed to go to London that day for a field trip of some breed for a college class.

I sacked it off and stayed home instead.

My friends were merely caught in traffic that was a result of the attacks.

Eating a picnic in Bayeux.

Was surreal, my coach got searched by some form of French police, and that was the first time I saw a gun. It was a weird day.

Living out here still, discussing it on the forums, pretty sure. Though not this set. Man, time passes kind of quick sometimes it seems.

Condolences to those affected directly by the attacks. One hopes that measures put in place since will help avoid these sorts of things from being repeated.

Well the UK hasn't been on the receiving end of a large scale terrorist attack since so you'd imagine so.
