Well the other one got locked, and as many of these I've seen I've never made one, and it's been quite a while since there's been a decent one so I decided to put my spin on it. I know Nationstates Forums has been vast majority white people for a while now, don't need a poll to tell you that, but bear with me on this.

10 options on the poll for different racial/ethnic groupings, I think I did a fairly good cross section, sorry people indigenous to Siberia you'll be under other but I'd be surprised if one of you was on here.

Oh and if your grandmother was a Cherokee princess, yeah those don't really exist so it might be best if you don't artificially inflate the Native American option. I mean if she acted like a princess that's another deal.

Personally I'm of Shoshone, Mexican American and White American descent. The White American heritage comes from many European heritages among them Italian, French, English, Irish, Scottish, and German. And maybe some others that I don't know about. I identify more with the Italian one if anything, mostly because I love pasta.

Like I said in the last thread. I'm European. Mother's side: Spanish-Portuguese. Father's side: Spanish-German. I have an ancestor far back who was Jewish, but other than (I don't identify with said ancestor, who was more than likely Sephardi), we're pretty much European.

Like I said in the last thread. I'm European. Mother's side: Spanish-Portuguese. Father's side: Spanish-German. I have an ancestor far back who was Jewish, but other than (I don't identify with said ancestor, who was more than likely Sephardi), we're pretty much European.

Only 10 options, so I just grouped together West Asia with Central Asia, where the lines blur and there's likely not many Central Asians here anyway, and North Africa which has a lot of people that identify as Arab, and which also is not likely we have many of on this forum. Cuts had to be made somewhere.

I'm 1/2 Irish on my mother's side, and 3/8 Australian (Irish and English ancestry) and 1/8 Chinese on my father's side.

I'm European. I'm born in Sweden, My mother is 75% Swedish 25% Lithuanian and my father is 50% Swedish 50% German which makes me:

62.5% Swedish, 25% German and 12.5% Lithuanian.

NZ European and also European. They are different.. it is misleading to describe a family with more than a 100 years of residence in a country as being culturally of somewhere else.

Anyway, when you do go back on the maternal side it is, until 1860 or so, born in NZ/arrived young (what one might describe as the original father came as an adult but didn't survive so long) with numerous inter-marriages, as one would expect, with people of Irish and English origin (and not particularly far back before you hit Ireland, recent enough for my grandmother to somehow obtain an Irish passport anyway). Classic example would be my maternal grandparents... she was born here and my grandfather in London (where I believe most of his family is from, the rest of the English lot were from less well known parts of England such as Durham or Devon). Bizarrely my mother is the only one of her siblings (of which there are many) born in NZ (half-siblings excluded, apparently my grandmother was really Catholic, but not so keen on marriage).

On the paternal side, as far as I know, it's Dutch as far as you can go (my father emigrated as a young man with his cousin). Apparently not too long after they arrived they were talking about this chick about their age sitting in front of them on a bus and then were surprised when her mother berated them, in Dutch. I guess that really happened but I heard it second hand.

As far as I'm aware, my ethnic/racial background is entirely white Norwegian, a bit of Icelandic, and an almost unnoticeable bit of Swedish. My family is an incredibly old one, but it isn't very diverse

Mother's side is Swedish as far back as we can track it. Part of dad's side of the family came from the Netherlands like 200 years ago.

Yeah that's a fair compromise I suppose, I just found it amusing

Oh I'm aware, with every bordering group there's gonna be blur. I know with Filipinos some consider themselves Pacific Islander, and Indonesia occupies the same continent as PNG, Maritime Southeast Asia definitely has blur. The Indochinese peninsula not so much with Oceania. And many of these countries are considered to be in the Sinosphere iirc. But hey even Taiwan blurs with Oceania to a certain extent with it's indigenous people and some intermixing with the Han Chinese I believe.
