The sun rises over the great dome of the World Capital Germania; the crowning achievement of the decade-long project to completely rebuild the German capital in the wake of her astonishing success in the Second-Franco Prussia War and the Great Anti-Comintern War It is a city full of good, pure people and solid allies, of flowing commerce and grand buildings of all assortments. However, underneath all the glitz and glamour lie the stains of blood that built and maintain the German Empire, as well as his allies.
After her defeat in The Great War, Germany had been left in ruins, a agrarian republic swimming in debt to France and Great Britain. Out of the chaos, however, rose the great Fuhrer; Adolf Hitler, who's National Socialist system lead to a great economic miracle and cleansing of all weakness from the nation: be it economic, political or ethnic, replaced with unity and strength. When the rest of the world denied Germany's rightful claims to Danzing in 1939, Germany launched a swift, revolutionary attack on their eastern European rival, revealing the new tactic of "Blitzkrieg" and mobility warfare against the out-dated, Great War militaries of his opponents, re-uniting ethnic Germans with their Fatherland in a splendid little war of only 3 weeks. With the Poles brought to heel, these same tactics proved equally effective against the antiquated armies of France and Great Britain; their mechanical and air power allowing them to outflank the bulk of France's defenses entirely. Not only were German troops marching through the streets of Paris in just over a month, but the British Expeditionary Force captured almost wholesale on the Nord Beaches; a desperate, patchwork rescue operation hatched by the current First Lord of the Admiralty Churchill meeting it's grizzly end at the hands of German artillery and Luftwaffe bombings.
Though it's military significance was highly questionable, the fall of France and lose of almost all of Great Britain's professional homeland army had grave political repercussions: the German's thusfar invincible air armada was less then 150 miles from London, America were offering kinds words but little else, and the specter of having to stand up to the Germans alone caused a quick collapse of the Chamberlin government, who'd managed to hold on thusfar only due to Chamberlin's refusal to resign and add the chaos of reforming the government to the war effort. Following the Disaster at Dunkirk though, the current government simply couldn't stand, and Churchill's reputation was far too tarnished by his role in the Dunkirk operation and his refusal to consider negotiations even with the surrender of their only remaining continental ally. Popular fear of a German invasion and political opposition proved to much, however, with Chamberlin being forced out by a vote of no-confidence and an almost unanimous invitation to Lord Halifax to form a new government, who declared he would "take every measure, political or military, to secure the future independence and prosperity of the British Empire.".
June 25th, 1940, is undoubtable the most controversial day in recent Western history, being the day the Treaty Lisbon was signed, which depending on your viewpoint was either the day the British government rescued their country from almost certain Axis occupation and dismemberment, or the day the last of the European democracies cravenly surrendered and betrayed their allies. With defeatism filling both the British ISles, Hitler's strongest ally, the Duce of Italy, finally agreed to the near-constant appeals from the Western powers to broker a peace deal: swayed by promises that his "territorial grievances" in the Mediterranean would be rectified and eager for some international prestige. Considering his ultimate desire to wage his war against Bolshevism and not wishing to be too hard on his fellow Germanic nations, Hitler's proposed terms were actually surprisingly generous: in return for recognition of his conquests in Eastern Europe, a twenty year non-aggression pact, and the return of territories lost by Germany during The Great War, German would guarantee the British Empire from attacks by any third party unmolested... something both were growing increasingly fearful of with the rhetoric flowing out of Germany's erstwhile ally in Tokyo. Italy's share would be a few choice bits of her own claims, as well as agreements by the new Vichy France and Britain not to interfere with her goals in south-eastern Europe.
Worldwide, the agreement at Lisbon greatly altered the geopolitical landscape. American support for Britain, having been growing during the May and June campaigns, dropped off drastically following the peace; attention being returned to the solving the residual problems left by The Great Depression. When word of the pact reached Japan; no unable to count on German diplomatic support for her designs on southeast Asia, found the influence of the naval faction crumble: the Chinese front being one of the few avenues of conquest. In Europe, with no possibility of British assistance in any resistance to Axis hegemony, the neutral nations quickly fell into line; Sweden, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, and Turkey gearing up to join the quickly-approaching anti-communist crusade
With the international order and the powers-that-be agreeing to their expansion, Berlin notified Moscow that their alliance would unfortunately have to be dissolved, the very next day rubbing salt in the wound and instigating the largest military campaign since the Mongol invasions: Operation Barbarossa. The Red Army, poorly commanded by a hollowed-out officer corps and not yet re-equip to handle mechanized warfare, crumbled in the initial months, the many residents of Ukraine, the Caucuses, and the Baltics welcoming the Germans as liberators from Stalin's harsh oppression. Though the Slavic Ukranians and Belrusians would come to regret those actions, the more politically accepted groups and their 'liberation armies' proved useful auxiliaries and guerillas for the German cause, disrupting the formation of new Soviets armies and attacking the infrastructure needed to supply them. Russia stood alone; France and Britain bound not to support them, China desperately struggling to hold off the Japanese armies, and what imports they could receive from the Americans cut off when, on December 7th, Japanese carrier forces launched a surprise attack on the port facilities in Vladivostok and Magadan; hamstringing their ability import the grain, metals, fuel, and base explosives they desperately needed to run their transplanted industry. The Russian bear was mighty yes; with factories and manpower to spare, but without these imports their output had slowed to a trickle, and illness and starvation began to overtake the civilian population. By the end of 1942, Leningrad, Stalingrad, and Baku had fallen; cutting off their last possible links to the outside world and depriving them of much of their domestic and Iranian oil. Mechanized agriculture began to fail, the tanks they'd been constructing for a counter offence rusted on the mustering grounds, and the grounding of the Red Air Force allowed form relentless bombing of what vital infrastructure remained.
In such a situation, not even the steel will of Joseph Stalin could stop the Russian structure from failing; not in a dramatic collapse, as Hitler had predicted, but through slowly falling into decay. It began innocenty enough at first; riots occurring when government agents went to collective the harvest from some of the collectives, or a mechanized division on some quiet part of the front having her parts cannibalized for logistics-system jeeps. As the months and years dragged on though, and German forced broke past the Volga, things quickly grew worse: Anti-Stalinist generals began breaking off the line, many of their men deciding they'd rather take their chances crossing into Asia and dealing with the Japanese rather then face genocide at the hands of the Nazis. Workers were beginning to collapse en-mass on the assembly line, their bodies starting to shut down after extended malnourishment, and outside a few strongholds Central Asia was in open revolt, Khazaks and assorted Turkmen slaughtering every Russian official they could get their hands on in hopes of making a deal with the Axis. The formation of a White Russian government in Siberia; formed from defecting units and political prisoners in the region, proved to be the final straw; mass defection of territory that sought to avoid German domination under the "benevolent protection" of the Japanese Emperor brought the remains of the Communist government to it's knees until, in May of 1947, Stalin was found dead by one of his remaining aides in his Urals bunker, having shot himself in the temple. What remained of the Red Army was forced to abide by an unconditional surrender; extending German hegemony from the Alps to the Urals. Their puppets in Mongolia were quick to collapse, the nation defecting to Japanese domination, leaving China the last nation on earth actively resisting Axis domination.
Yet, despite the official end to the "Second World War", may problems remained for the victorious Axis. Though the vast majority of Eurasia are under the control of the Axis or their influenced states, holding onto them has been a costly and bloody affair. The Germans and Japanese, though technically allies, have not forgotten the other's support of the colonialists and Slavs, each seeking to undermine the other in games of catspaw across their mutual border. Though a string of Japanese territories and puppets dominate the Chinese coast, the Nationalist government lives on in the interior, trying to build up the strength to strike the overstretched occupation forces. Britain, saved the costs and lose of life of another Great War, maintain their colonial Empire, trying to stifle the growing sense of nationalism among the native peoples while the clock ticks closer and closer to the end of their guarantee by the Reich, who themselves face the prospect of their now 70 year old Fuhrer's approaching death. And, as always, in the Western Hemisphere lies the isolationist America, ever happy to sup with whomever will buy their goods, but who faces a rising love of Fascism in her hemisphere, as well as a sharp uptick in her political and racial tensions. It remains to be seen weather the powers-that-be truly rest on a high hill, or are merely built atop pillars of sand...
Rule 1: No Godmodding
Self-explanatory. Be it the spirits of Japanese Shinto, the Nordic forces of German Paganism, or good old fashioned Christian miracles, if there are any gods they don't do anything. Only mortal hands with normal mortal restrictions apply.
Rule 2: Remember your limitations
Afghanistan isn't going to be building its own nuclear weapons at any point, and even America can't rebuild a sunken aircraft carrier overnight. This goes for cultural changes too; Germany isn't going to be "Let's hug all the jew/gypsies/homosexuals/ect. just because you say so. This rule is especially important for civil wars: these are, by nature, nasty, brutish, and divided affairs that will take months if not years to sort out, and will not result in complete government and social change over night. Even if you can win military, there is the question of people accepting you...
Rule 3: Logistics
Wars aren't won by having the most and best tanks, ships, and planes; they're won by being able to use the most and best tanks, ships, and planes. As such, military campaigns require planning and reason to work out. You'll need your troops to hold ground, but marching them anywhere can take weeks, and mechanizing all your troops is cost-prohibitive, especially without endlessly flowing oil. You get the soldiers you send, and if you want more you have to take them from somewhere else. There is also political logistics; German "advisors" trying to stage a pro-Facist coupe in a nation are going to be less politically damming then an all-out invasion to instill an obvious puppet. The bigger the invasion, the more time it takes to prepare
