IC THREAD
Hello everyone, and welcome to Crusader Kings: Blood of the Sacrament, Blood of the Damned! This is an RP loosely based on the Paradox strategy game, Crusader Kings II. Like the game, this RP will fuse character-based and nation-based gameplay into a sort of pseudogame layered atop another pseudogame. If that didn't make sense, good! It didn't make sense to me either!
Now onto serious business. As I said before this RP will be a loose interpretation of Crusader Kings II. Players will assume the roles of characters, usually heads-of-government (more specifically, monarchs) during medieval times.
That's about where the similarities end, though.
For the sake of creative freedom, this RP will start on January 1st, 500. That is of course only about twenty years after the historical collapse of the Western Roman Empire. For the purposes, again, of creative freedom, the POD for this RP will be 470 AD.
RPers (that's you!) are free to create their own realms within Europe/north Africa/the Steppes/India as long as they plausibly could come into existence during the time period between 470 and 500. Or, to make everyone's lives a little easier, you could just choose to take up the mantle of a country that actually existed at that time. If you choose the former, be prepared to justify it and explain in heavy detail how your realm into existence.
Now onto the gameplay itself.
The RP will take two forms, existing simultaneously: the nation-based form and the character-based form. This is more or less the same as in the game itself. As the leader of your nation you can do anything sovereign nations do, but as a human being your free to do whatever the hell you want! This, of course, means that CK:BotSBotD will be unique in the sense that it's basically two RPs at once.
Any land gains/losses etc will be periodically added to the main map, which will be maintained by me. Yes I'm going to keep a running map, because what would a CK-based RP be without a map?
Right so here's some ground RP rules:
- No flaming, trolling, flamebaiting, or breaking any NS rules. Save it for the IC.
- No graphic sex scenes. Anything more graphic than what CKII itself has is a no-go. This shouldn't become a problem.
- No taking IC feuds into the OOC.
- No godmodding, metagaming, or general shittery.
That should be good.
Now, nation creation rules for RPers who plan on making a new nation:
- As I said before, realms should be realistic assuming a Point of Divergence in the year 470. That is, your realm should be able to realistically exist within thirty years of 470 AD.
- No empires. Only two empires existed in 500 AD, and that won't change here. If you want to claim those empires themselves, that's okay. Starting as a kingdom and later expanding into an empire is also fine, but be prepared to work your ass off for it!
- The more unrealistic the realm, the more explanation it will require. A Zoroastrian kingdom in Persia can easily be handwaved, but a Jewish kingdom in Sweden cannot. As long as it's plausible and you can justify it, it's fine.
- Keep in mind that this RP starts in the year 500. That means that anything that wouldn't be in the world in 500 won't be. So no muslim countries yet, no Chinese imports, no American colonies. Yet.
Any land not taken by players will become 'NPC' territory ruled by whoever was actually there in 500. These dud countries can be warred against but won't war against you.
And by "actually there in 500" I mean whatever the hell WTWSMS says was there, I know it's wrong but for gameplay purposes I don't care.
Here's the base map in 500 that we'll be using:

Feel free to ask me the names of any of those countries. Each color is an indention country.
See the "latest map" at the bottom of this post for the actual up-to-date RP map - it looks nothing like that.
And, without further ado, the application:
- Code: Select all
CHARACTER APPLICATION
Name: <replace this with your character's name>
Dynasty: <put your dynasty here>
Gender: <put your gender here>
Stats: <put your stats here>
Title(s): <put your title(s) here>
Ethnicity:
Age:
Religion:
Notable Relations: <optional if N/A>
Character history: <optional but STRONGLY ENCOURAGED>
All fields required unless otherwise stated.
Name can include the dynastic name or not, your choice.
Stats should be in CK2 format. For example: 2/3/9/10/5
And now the realm app.
This app is 100% optional if you're planning on playing as a pre-existing realm. Just mention that you are if that's the case. Otherwise:
- Code: Select all
REALM APPLICATION
Short name: <replace with a short name>
Full name: <replace with full name>
Rank:
Adjective:
Map claims: <keep it realistic pl0x>
History: <100% REQUIRED>
Short name should be as it would appear on the map. eg: "East Francia"
Full name should be the title of the actual dominion. eg: "Kingdom of East Francia"
Rank is either Kingdom; Duchy; Country; or Castle/Bishopric/City. Regional names must be translated into these terms (i.e. Petty Kingdom becomes Duchy, the nonexistant Sultanate would become Kingdom, etc.).
Adjective is just the adjective for your realm. eg: "Frankish"
Map claims can either be a description or an actual picture depicting your claim on the map.
History is the most important part of your app. It should detail what happened between 470 and 500 that led to the existence and status of your realm. Make it plausible enough and you'll almost certainly be accepted.
Here's my two applications:

Map claims: http://veuwer.com/2nhn.png
History: In the mid-470s, Odoacer invaded the dying Western Roman Empire and overthrew its Emperor, Romulus Augustulus. In doing so, he established the Kingdom of Italy, an ethnic Lombard kingdom ruling over ethnic Roman lands. Arcadius was a general in the WRE, but survived the transfer of power by pledging loyalty to Odoacer. However, in 488 Arcadius staged a mutiny in the Italian military, and launched a civil war against Odoacer in an attempt to return Italy to rightful Roman hands. The war lasted from 488 to 496, and Arcadius established a new kingdom after annexing most of Italy's former lands. He declared his new kingdom to be the Province of Italia, rightful successor to the Western Roman Empire, and took the title "Rex". After being elected Consul of the city of Rome in 489, he re-established his court in the holy city itself, cementing his claim as successor to the Western Roman Empire. After cementing his control over Italy, he filled his court with former politicians of the Western Roman Empire as well as inviting some from the East, in an attempt to reform the pseudo-empire into something more stable. As of 500, he's continued to attempt to reform the Province of Italia into a more stable state, in addition to attempting to cement his legacy.
Transoxthraxia is the co-op.
