Republic of Zolevskoy Armed Forces checkpoint on Zolev-Ordia border

1248 local time - 28/05/2015, Somewhere along the Zolev-Ordia border - Village of Darlana, 9 Celsius - Showers

A section of 12 Republic of Zolevskoy Armed Forces soldiers stood on guard at a checkpoint on the middle of a paved highway, which lead from Ordia to Zolevskoy and went through Kozelsk. The Zolevskoyan soldiers stood on guard to watch for any suspicious activities, determine who can get through the border, among other objectives. Ever since the previous war in Kozelsk, security was heavily revised to be even tighter and to have a much heavier presence on the border. Instead of the previous sandbags, gates, and other small fortifications on the border, there were now instead large cement barriers, barbed wire fencing, larger and stronger fortifications, and even more security checks. Each day was often eventful and busy, and this day was no different. An entire bus with people of both Zolevskoyan and Ordian descent were attempting to cross the border for "immigration purposes", however the passengers and driver weren't cooperating with Zolevskoyan guards very well.

"Listen. Until everybody is in a single file line and is behind the barrier we're not letting you go through. So get back there now." A Zolevskoyan soldier, Sergeant Lopatine ordered the driver of the large coach bus. The ethnic Ordian driver wore a simple black leather jacket with a tan shirt underneath and brown hunting pants. Lopatine wore must of his standard gear, however his helmet was off his head and attached to his chest rig, and his AK-74 rifle was slung across his chest.

"We've been waiting here since 10 in the morning with my passengers just to be checked! 10 in the morning!" The Ordian shouted back at the soldier. "I pushed them back, and you tell me "move a little more, move a little more." Here, it's okay now!" A Zolevskoyan soldier behind a cement barrier ordered an old woman to go back to where she was before. Not many people in the crowd was cooperating very well.

"Move back. Move it back behind the barrier now." Lopatine continued to order the civilians, as were most other soldiers at the checkpoint. Two olive drab UAZ-469 vehicles showed up behind the Zolevskoyans. Once both stopped, several RZAF soldiers came out. The highest ranking walked towards Lopatine.

"Sergeant Lopatine!" The 32 year old Lieutenant called out. The sergeant waved his hand in the air to indicate where he was.

"What the hell is going on here and why haven't you contained the situation yet?" Lieutenant Dragoslav asked Lopatine, a hint of frustration in his voice.

"We've been trying to get this entire busload of people to cooperate with us for nearly three hours now, but they're refusing to move back behind the barrier." Dragoslav stared blankly at the sergeant for a moment, and pushed him aside.

"EVERYBODY! BEHIND THE BARRIER IMMEDIATELY, OR YOU WILL BE ORDERED TO LEAVE! NOW!" He yelled out in both the Zolevskoyan and Ordian language. Almost the entire area went silent. Quickly afterwards, civilians began moving back in the small corridor.

"Fucking keep shit like this under control in the future. You're just gonna give the Ords' more reason to hate us..." The lieutenant ordered. Lopatine nodded and said "yes sir". Some Ordian soldiers would surely be watching at this very moment, watching the situation unfold...

Ministry of Defence
Ludnow, Republic of Ordia

Ludnow was busy as always. The people, the cars, and the noise never ceased. The sun was actually shining today, most days it had been cloudy and raining. Last year the city had thirty inches of rain, it had 18 inches fall this month alone. The Ministry sat with many other government buildings it was many called the "government quarter", though this name was un-official. Perhaps it was ironic that on this break in the standard gloomy weather that the President had made an appearance inside. On many occasions the heads of the military would go to the President's office, but today the President wanted a change in plans, and a change in the world. This would also throw off anyone working for the media, this was something they couldn't get wind of, not yet.

The last war had ended with mixed results to say the least. The military didn't complete all of it's objectives, and it ended in a truce. However, that coupled with the previously won civil war kept Zolevskoy out of affairs for a short while anyway. However, the President was certain they had won a political victory. Times had changed in that short time since the war however, other wars, crises, and tragedies distracted Atlas. One more tragedy was that the dispute over Kozelski had by a great deal been forgotten. Many assumed the war was simply good versus bad, or a failure of two nations to discuss matters, either way it was over. Unfortunately they were wrong.

Inside the main conference room, President Petrovitch sat looking through reports. It was odd to him, very odd, but at that moment he could only keep thinking of how just a few years ago, his government was looking to pursue productive relations, with many nations that he now had to deal with in only hostile manners. Perhaps that was the cost of the Bratislavan Civil War." Had the government stayed in place would there still eventually be an IFC? Would the events still unfold as they did in Masalia? In Paldavia? " Many nations had banded together under this and other purposes, and the freedom of countless peoples and the neutrality of nations came into question with each victory and step forward. Now armed groups were springing up throughout Curente. In Stasnov, in Cydonia, and in Fasnova. They were in Zolevskoy as well, it just so happened. What was different though was their support for the government, unlike the others...

Just as General Miroslav Anazov finished his report on the state of the Air force and ground defences, General Malinovsky began. "Well Mr. President, the conflicts in Karateplar and in Stasnov have reached a lull. In Fasnova, the rebels showed an unprecedented will to kill and attack. They've shaken the Republic and they're asking for support. The only other thing even comparable to such ferocity was the rebel advance in Stasnov, which almost wiped out a whole unit, but that was some time ago. Lastly, the Zolevskoyans have repaired and built up what they could in Kozelski. Reports from guard posts and border patrols show they have an unprecedented system in border security. Any and all travel, peaceful or otherwise is difficult." General Pavo Malinovsky looked upon the President as he continued looking through reports in front of him as he finished. The President then took a moment to look towards the generals, "Lets be clear gentlemen, the rebellions that have sparked up are nothing more than that. What is happening in Stasnov is in itself, a continuation, but Karateplar, and Kozelski has all the marks of these nations. The reality of Zolevskoy is that they are a state that sponsors terrorism, and has crossed our borders illegally before. We caught them off-guard once, can we do it again? Can we end this duel? Can we be certain the expansionists and war-mongers won't flock to their cause again?"

General Malinovsky looked back at the screen behind them with images taken along the border, and others taken from foreign journalists showing the situations abroad, turning back he looked at the President and staff collectively. "We have a chance sir. The terrorists in their country have terrified many ethnic Zolevskoyans into our arms. The military certainly keeps it's eye on the border but they've followed our decision on security. Many of the units on the border are well armed, but they're running normal search and security operations. The terrorists in the country aren't large in number from what we've seen of them on the frontlines and media, though they've got some training no doubt. If you recall from intelligence reports we still hold the position that the did some operations or are partially connected to what happened in Fasnova. The Republic's military is much smaller, and it had gaps in security."

The middle-aged General looked to a map in front of them, "We have them politically, in terms of military their paramilitary pose no huge threat, their military will naturally respond to anything we do, so we can keep them guessing, and we have a better picture of the area. One concern is air superiority, and how we conduct our surprise. I know Mr. President you've given a great deal of attention to our 4th Special Forces Brigade, under General Alexander Reznik. I am in agreement that we should re-establish "umbrella's" at our major cities and bases, however, we use our older systems. If we put our most modern units on the frontline the rear will be of less concern. It will block their air units from launching any attack and will keep our troops on the ground more undisturbed. Likewise, once this has been put into place we fly the whole Brigade into Kozelski at a determined point and wreck chaos on them, and rout them in such a way they'll feel the effects of it for miles. Our troops will launch an all out attack. They must go forward and bring the fight close to the enemy. The enemy by this point will be isolated from air support and fall one by one. From there we send in our reserves. Additionally, with more time we can prepare a paramilitary force, their mostly Aronians and Cydonians, good men. They can go in and cause havoc, with their numbers, this can help tie up responding units." He then motioned to the reports, "After our regulars secure the areas we can pull them back to use elsewhere."

The room was silent for a moment, but seemed to acknowledge what seemed to be a reality. Either they could attack, or wait to be the next victim. General Pavo Malinovsky himself was an aging fighter. He had been in many "police actions" which were simply efforts by the government to keep stability in various parts of Atlas by sending peace-keepers. The rugged 43 year old was not afraid to put his army into the thick of it. Admiral Ladislav Doležal was quite different however, he was the newest of the staff, taking over the role from his predecessor. He had come from a branch that had seen the least action, though had arguably been on the "frontlines" during some of the most tense moments. Taking his turn he began to read off. "Currently our Navy is in an improved status. We've gotten our hands on better ships. However, last time they caught us by surprise with bombings. Prior to the attack I can deploy our fleets across Lowren on patrols. We should keep at least a partial force near our waters though to keep anything from hitting us by surprise. Our fleets will be found in several points and will force them to scatter should they come out to find them. Worse case though is they may attempt to block us in. We can re-group and try and lead them into a trap with the help of our mine-layers. Dropping the mines of course...would rather be a more drastic option though sir. Before we proceed with any such thing sir, what of the foreign affairs office?"

The President had just glanced at photos of the Zolevskoy Naval ship classes. The President remembered he had been forced to walk amongst the debris of what had been destroyed and damaged at his base. He seemed more inclined to talks. "We'll keep Prochazka in the dark for now, however..." he paused thinking to himself- "as much as he intrigues me we may use him later. He seems to settle ok with the other delegates, Kurikov would probably infuriate them, as good and loyal man as he his." The room went silent again as each man looked at fresh and old news reports, maps, and photos from the border, the clock ticking at the advance of time the only sure thing in the room.

Dear Sir or Madam,

Is it that time again, Mr. Petrovitch? And this time you accuse of supporting terrorism? It is truly astonishing how you and your government fail to learn from your mistakes. The Jaysh al-Tahrir al-Islamiyah is not a designated terrorist organization. Although we are not willing to comment on our relations towards the organization, they have not attacked any Zolevskoyan forces or other targets.

The real terrorists in Kozelsk are remnants of the Zolevskoy National Party, and we have weakened them significantly; the most notable effort towards that was back in February this year, when our military launched an operation to clear out ZNP remnants from the neighboring region of Bukovina. And, not to mention, you are correct about the rights of the citizens of Kozelsk, they do remain unchanged. It is because we care about and protect them, instead of attacking them and destroying their lives. Your military is the reason for our military presence in the region.

The Republic of Zolevskoy hereby condemns your threats towards the security and stability of Kozelsk. Any more threats such as the most recent ones will have consequences.

Faithfully yours,
Republic of Zolevskoy
Government of the Republic of Zolevskoy

Ordo-Zolevskoy Border-Kozelski

After the war, main combat units were shifted about. Initially they sat in the South on the border, but when a larger war broke out in Curente, they were sent farther North. Now that they remained at their standard bases they could leave patrol duties to the border guards and a few small reservist units. The active units always got new men first in peace-time naturally, and with so many personnel small reservist units (Company-Battalion size) would be formed and sent out to help in various area, they would usually be gone for several days at least usually, or a week or two at most. Military drills were scheduled for as soon as possible, unknown to the military at large, but the messages between Ordia and Zolevskoy weren't good, these drills were a result of that.

But before drills could be conducted, the reservists and border guards would have to do a sweep of the border regions as best they could, and quickly too, for the active units were on their way to participate. They say the military is dangerous, and it's true most jobs come with hazards in one form or another, but if there is one in the Army, it's guarding the Kozelski border. Before the war the borders were as standard as they come. Since the war they were now vastly different in some parts. Familiar landmarks suddenly give way unknown land, torn up and blasted away from the fighting. There were many untold border incidents, from both sides. Units or men accidentally crossing only to realize their mistake after it was too late. From there a dangerous journey back had to be made, and even then the question of superior officers finding out still loomed over those who found themselves on the wrong side still loomed.

Unfortunately, one of those situations is exactly what an Ordian reservist platoon found themselves in. They had unknowingly crossed just less than half an hour ago. They were standing at the edge of some woods. They weren't completely prepared for combat. They carried around a days supplies and a couple magazines per man. The men were mostly in a single file line, while a small group of officers and NCO's stood huddled around trying to figure out where they were, the idea that they had crossed had been suggested, but was being rejected as alternate theories to their location were proposed. The platoon could only comprehend a fraction of the threat they faced. On the other side in Kozelski, the rules were different.

Somewhere in northeast Kozelsk near the Zolev-Ordia border - 1947 local time - 29/05/2015, 9° Celsius - Showers

Three Iveco LMV infantry mobility vehicles moved along an old cement road in the middle of a large forest. The road was incredibly out of shape with potholes and cracks all over. The rain only made the conditions worse. In each LMV were 5 soldiers including a driver. Each vehicle had a PKM MG mounted on top with a gunner manning it. Unlike most models of the same vehicle, Zolevskoyan LMVs had a large steel turret ring around where the gunner sat, for better protection against small arms fire.

The vehicles were returning back to their FOB after conducting a routine patrol. While the front and rear vehicles had their gunners looking to the left, the middle one looked to the right. Convoys this close to the border had to take extra security precautions, in case any hostile force was trespassing. If anybody who looked like military personnel was found, they would be identified through a system used by RZAF forces in Kozelsk. When a party shouts a word, the other party has to answer with the correct word. The code changed every few days so that any hostile who attempt to blend in with friendly forces have a higher chance of being detected. The current code words were Alpha, the answer being Second. A wrong answer could likely have often deadly consequences.

Sergeant Pustoka paid close attention to the dense forests to the right of the convoy, looking for any trespassers. The constant bumps from the potholes certainly were uncomfortable, but that was to be expected from a simple hammock seat. But something seemed off to him in the forest.

"All units slow down just a bit. Possible contact to the east." After he ordered the convoy over his radio, the convoy slowed down from 65 km/h to about 18. Pustoka paid even closer attention to the forests. And sure enough, several men in military gear and were armed.

"Confirmed contact to the east! Disembark and prepare to identify!" As soon as he confirmed the sighting, each Iveco LMV stopped. The passengers and drivers hopped out and took position behind cover while the gunners rotated their turrets towards the soldiers. Both aimed their weapons towards the men

"HALT! AWAIT TO BE IDENTIFIED!" Pustoka shouted to the forests in the east.

"ALPHA!!" He shouted again, anxiously waiting for an answer though also wishing the wouldn't answer. The rain pounder down on him and his AK-74, as he waited...

Ordo-Zolevskoy Border-Kozelski

The platoon continued trying to figure out it's position when suddenly someone broke the general silence, the Officers and NCO's being the only really talking in a whisper. They all turned on hearing shouting and after a brief pause they sat down low. "What the hell!? Everyone stay low and out, someone get on the radio and ask what to do." As soon as Lt. Novak had ordered so his radioman began contacting help. He could see a man, and then around him he could other movements, it appeared to be the heads and upper torso's of other people. He couldn't see much with his binoculars. "Sir, HQ says pull back and keep an eye on them, if they fire we fire." Lt. Novak looked to his radioman as he responded, and then immediately looked back. Not much had changed in the few seconds. "Alright, we're pulling back, one squad stays and observes, the others pull back...quickly!" Novak's own stayed while the other groups quickly began to get up and begin running or jogging back. None of them were going to stop and ask when, not now, it was time to follow orders or face real trouble. Lt. Novak watched them begin falling back, he looked through his binoculars and could still see the man, he couldn't tell much about him, but it was clear he could see them...

Already the news was running up through the chain. A company hanging around the main headquarters got their hands on some trucks and began heading towards where command said the platoon had reported. For many of these men, this was terrifying thrill they only saw in the classic war movies on t.v. but this was much more real. There was an actual rdian unit somewhere in the countryside needing help. The column moved out down the road, past a fewcurious Ordian and Zolevskoyan civilians and border guards. Other didn't pay much attention to them.

Subject: Military and diplomatic aid

Greetings,

As you probably already know, we have been monitoring the situation in Kozelski since the last war. We too, condemn the Zolevskoyan sponsoring of terrorism, and their repression of ethnic Ordians in the Kozelski region. We wish to see the Zolevskoyan government pay and brought to justice, for their terrible actions against peace, prosperity and security. They posed, and continue to pose a threat to milions in the region, and we wish to put an end to that. We would like you to know that you can always rely on our support, both diplomatic and military. However, we would also like you to understand that our military support will probably come in a more unofficial form, as our military is stretched fighting in Rekovia, within our own country.

Nevertheless, we would like to offer you a rather paltry 2.3 bilion NSD in military aid, in order to help you replenish what you lost in the last war, as well as contribute to the modernisation of your military, to face any threats from the Zolevskoyans and their allies. Along with that, i would also like to offer to lease or sell you some high-tech Stasnovan military hardware, to additionaly contribute to that effort. The actions of your esteemed Republic in the following months will be significant in the future of the region. Your nation is the the only thing that stands between Zolevskoyan dominance over the region, and peace.

We wish you the best of luck in your endeavour to achieve security and peace for the Ordian People.

Signed,
Nikolai Makarov

"Shit they're running!" One of the Zolevskoyans yelled out. He hesitated to fire his AK-74 rifle. The soldiers watched as many of the unknown men began running back, while the rest stayed behind and watched. The Zolevskoyans would only fire if either the enemies fired first, or if they refused to answer the next identification attempt.

"ALPHA!!" Pustoka once again yelled out towards who he assumed were Ordian soldiers. He yelled first in the Zolevskoyan and then the Ordian language so that they would understand.

"If they refuse to reply or try to run, open fire." The Sergeant ordered his section. RZAF soldiers put their finger on their trigger and prepared to engage if shots began ringing out. Each soldier aimed at an enemy in their sights as machinegunners prepared to lay down suppressing fire. The Ordian would have a low, if any chance of surviving if a firefight broke out.

The men continued to move back as Lt. Novak watched the men to his front. They could tell some of them had left. He then repeated what he yelled earlier, and this time it was in Ordian. It turns out he was saying "alpha". Novak didn't know what it meant though, and he didn't want to find out. He turned to what men were still with him. "Right lets move, fast!" The whole group got up and immediately began sprinting in the direction their comrades had gone. The men to the front slowed long enough to see Novak coming up behind them before they too started running. Most of the group was panicking, some of them stumbling through the brush. It didn't help they could hear yelling behind them, and it wasn't one person, it was multiple...

President Petrovitch is delighted and re-assured to receive word from your government and it's condemnation. Our government would eagerly welcome support from your country and are prepared to accept your offered aid. Our government has also monitored the situation in your country, and we are still willing and prepared to send peace-keeping forces or supplies to assist you in your cause. The President and our government fully agree with your governments view on the situation and Zolevskoy, who if isn't halted, will only increase the gap in the status quo. Rebellions and terrorist acts have spread across Curente, and if Zolevskoy and it's allies can not be stopped, independence and neutrality across Curente and Atlas will be put at risk.

Our countries and others who have been effected must stand strong against these rogue nations and terrorists, only once we've shown them they can't defeat us from within can we make progress towards future peace.

"Right lets, move fast!" The whole group got up and immediately began sprinting in the direction their comrades had gone.

Pustoka wish it didn't have to happen. It would only cause even more issues with the current situation in Kozelsk, both militarily and politically. But he had to do it. The sergeant yelled out to his section to open fire. Right afterwards every Zolevskoyan soldier he commanded opened fire. The men who manned machineguns layed down suppressing fire while the ones with rifles took aimed shots at Ordian soldiers who ran. Some soldiers who had GP-25 grenade launchers mounted under their AK-74 fired a 30mm HEDP round. The firefight had just begun.

The men were running through the woods, it was every man for himself. Suddenly the forest came alive with noise when bullets and bombs began landing in the area. Novak could see bullets hitting the tree's sending splinters into the air, he could hear the echoing noise of them smacking against the timber. Dirt was kicking up around them from bullets landing around their feet. Many of the men instantly jumped to the ground, and seeing it was gunfire they didn't hesitate, they jumped back to their feet and ran. A private in front of him was running as if the devil himself was behind him. He suddenly dropped forward, as if he had tripped over some brush, and then Novak could hear the screaming and as he came in closer he could see blood pouring out of his leg.

Novak got low next to him and began firing his AK-74 in bursts though he wasn't really aiming. One of his men must have looked back because someone grabbed the wounded soldier as he fired and helped move him away, though he couldn't tell who it was. He could faintly see figures, but they were a good distance out. Just as he had gotten 3-4 short bursts from his rifle off a grenade landed in front of him several yards away. The blast was immediately followed by more gunfire. He dropped to the ground and began crawling forward, his rifle in one hand. For a brief moment it seemed as though a small ounce of calm and cool thought came over him. As he slid forward on the ground of the forest he realized he was alone. The others were ahead of him, the wounded private being helped was closest but in the trees and gunfire he seemed so far away. The other NCO's were trying to keep everyone alive and relatively together so nobody was separated. They could see the limping soldier to the rear some meters back, and this finally gave them some clue that perhaps something had happened to Novak.

Novak managed to get on his feet, and he broke into a dead sprint. The air hitting him as he ran gave him some relief. He was in a cold sweat, and he had never felt so alone. It felt like the storm was right on him, he was on a death run, stop and you'll die.

"HOLD FIRE! HOLD FIRE!" Pustoka ordered his section, yelling over his communications as he began to reload a new magazine into his rifle. Thinking of what to do next, he continued watching ahead of him.

"I want all the men from the center and two men from the rear LMV to come with me. Form a line in front of the vehicles. The rest of you, stay here and keep a lookout." All the soldiers from the center Iveco, except the turret gunner and two of the soldiers from the rear vehicle began moving out of their cover. They formed a line and readied their weapons.

"Nobody move faster than me. Keep your eyes open and report any movement." The Sergeant ordered his section. Right after he moved cautiously ahead and looked out for any hostiles. Reinforcements from a nearby FOB would be arriving quickly.

Charred grass and small craters indicated where Grenades detonated and spent 5.45mm casings littered the ground. Pustoka noticed a trail of blood which originated from the wounded Ordian soldier.

"Try not to shoot any soldiers, we should try to take some alive if possible. But if they make any stupid moves, engage them." Pustoka told his section over communications as they continued moving slowly with extreme caution through the dense forest...

URGENT

Greetings whoever may be reading this.

I have just been informed that a patrol of ours has reported some of your soldiers crossing into our territory, with a short firefight ensuing after they were detected. It is reported that one Ordian has been wounded, no other casualties.

I want an explanation immediately from any commander o your military. This could have gone much worse if my men hadn't taken any proper precautions.

01/06/2015 – Zolevskoyan President Claims Situation in Kozelsk Gaining Tension, Places Armed Forces on High Alert Level
Image
Pictured above: ZAF JSu-95 preparing to take off to conduct a routine patrol, Grishak Airbase, May 2015.

In an unprecedented move earlier today, the Republic of Zolevskoy Armed Forces have been placed on a high alert level after a "threatening and derogatory message" was sent to the Zolevskoyan foreign affairs office from Ordian foreign affairs, according to a government source. The president has also condemned the Ordian government of claiming that the Republic of Zolevskoy has a "leniency to terrorist groups [Jaysh al-Tahrir al-Islamiyah]".

Tensions in Kozelsk have been seen to be riding in the past few days as both sides have been trying to send messages to each other by military and political means. While some believe this is merely another time of tensions that will eventually settle down, some have claimed that another, even bloodier conflict is on the horizon. Nikolic Woronoff has promised that he will "protect citizens of all ethnicities from Ordian aggression".

"Ever since the previous war in August 2014, 9 out of the estimated 18 ZNP commanders hiding in Kozelsk have been captured or killed by our military forces. ZNP activity since our recent operation in February has been reduced drastically, with over 200 militants killed and more wounded." Woronoff stated earlier, when asked on his thoughts of the Ordian government accusing Zolevskoy of supporting terrorism. "Therefore, the men and women of the Ordian government have no right to accuse us of supporting terrorism."

He then went on to debunk the claim that the government does not care for the freedoms and rights of citizens. When asked on his thoughts, he simply nodded in disagreement.

"This is another way the Ordian government attempts to demonize us. Out of all the foreign economic aid given to us, over 50% of it has been used to help rebuild people's homes, lives and businesses in areas affected by the previous wars. Over 90% of towns in northern Kozelsk have been rebuilt by now. Do not forget that the Ordian and their supporters are the ones who brought on the destruction and have made zero reparations."

In other news, an incident between Zolevskoyan and Ordian soldiers has recently left 1 Ordian wounded. The Zolevskoyan government has accused Ordia of ordering soldiers to trespass into Kozelsk, and has demanded an explanation.

Novak finally caught up with his men. They were huddled around the wounded soldier. Another man tying a bandage around it. Like their other supplies they didn't bring much in the way of medical. Everyone was sitting around him drinking what water they had. Once it was done one of the men helped the single casualty up on his feet and began moving him out. They would head North until they hit the road along the border. If they moved quickly enough they might stay ahead. The enemy might catch up though. Worst case scenario it would be a delaying action all the way North. The others filed out, except for Novak and a selected squad. The slowly followed the other back, watching the woods behind them, watching for the hostile figures to appear again.

Our command is not at complete liberty to make any comments, however, we have received word from a patrol that an armed unknown force was attempting to make contact with them. We have not been able to make contact with them since. We are currently trying to reach them. If your armed forces or any militant groups have launched an attack, your military and government may be held accountable.

Northeast Kozelsk, near the Zolev-Ordian border

"Everybody halt. We've gone far enough." Pustoka ordered his team, as they just got out of sight of the Iveco LMVs. They had searched for any remaining hostiles and found nothing but what they left behind such as spent casings and a few empty magazines. Some Zolevskoyan soldiers picked up the latter and stored them in a pocket or two of theirs.

"Let's head back now. Keep watching behind you, in front of you, and beside you for any hostiles. We're not getting ambushed. Maintain a wedge formation" With that Pustoka and his soldiers formed a wedge and began moving back to their vehicles. He could hear something that was heading towards his position in the distance..

In the skies

A lone Mi-24 Hind V flew high above the grounds of Kozelsk. The armament was simply it's 12.7mm duplex cannon and S-8 rocket pods. The helicopter, which was simply known as Crni, was ordered to fly towards an area where a firefight between Zolevskoyan and Ordian forces recently took place. Even though it was over, they had to ensure that the enemies were out and not causing any issues. The helicopter had an order to find them, and destroy them if they were still trespassing in Kozelsk.

"Keep looking out for them, Zaitsev. They could be anywhere." the pilot of the Hind, Sergeant Neven informed his gunner, Corporal Viktor.

"Roger that." The helicopter continued circling way high above the ground, searching for anything that could be the Ordian forces.

The platoon was still moving North, though being as aware as they could. Being on foot anything could show up. Novak and his selected squad were covering the retreat, moving from cover to cover and waiting for anything to appear in the distance. Novak could only hear the noise of his moving, and the noise of the woods. But it was drowned out again. He could hear the sound of an engine, a distant echo of a helicopters propeller carrying it across the land, the echo bouncing off the surrounding hills in the area.

"Oh god, everyone move it! Double time, carry any casualties." The men jumped back into a sprint, with the single casualty being carried on the others shoulders. It was different with enemy infantry, but with a helicopter and no support? It was a dangerous incentive. They did have some hope though, they had covered a good distance during their rout. The border actually wasn't that far away anymore.

"I see movement to the north. Looks like a large group of men, possibly the ones we're looking for." Viktor informed Neven over the helicopter's communications. Zooming in with his sight, Viktor got a closer look on the group of men who appeared to be running for their lives. All of them had helmets, camouflage, and rifles. They had no Zolevskoyan identification.

"Confirmed contact to the north! Permission to engage?" Viktor yelled over the communications, aiming his sight so he could hit at least a few of the enemies.

"Roger that, engage. But only two short bursts; they're close enough to the border." Neven replied. With that, the gunner of the Mi-24 took aim and fired off two short bursts of the 12.7mm cannon.

The platoon was going at full speed, but the sound of the helicopter was getting louder and louder. Suddenly the sound of two loud bursts of gunfire erupted in the air. Novak could feel his stomach twist in knots at the very moment. The platoon was in a single file line, mostly, when rounds from the guns hit the ground. The bullets went up in a straight path, some of them hitting right next to platoon members. The whole line suddenly reacted, some fired rounds at the helicopter, other kept running. Many hit the ground, and began to get up and continue running as the second burst hit. One of the bullets struck another man, a private, straight through the chest. He simply fell backwards and flat on his back. The men in very front could see trucks ahead of them, they were standard Ordian Army trucks. Two men raced up and grabbed hold of the man jacket, and began dragging him forward. He was unresponsive.

Soldiers from the relief unit sprang into action, they rushed over to help put the wounded in trucks, which immediately took off for medical stations. While doing so, men from the platoon and the relief unit fired shots towards the helicopter. The rescue unit had brought a PK machine gun which they put to use. The gunner set up on the hood of a UAZ and fired bursts at the helicopter. Hopefully it would send it back from the border. For the first time since the platoon ran into the enemy, someone radioed the headquarters giving details. It would take only moments for this story to head up the chain.

29/05/2015 - 2025 local time

"Cease fire, cease fire. They're already close enough to their side of the border." Zaitsev informed Viktor, the gunner of the helicopter. 7.62mm and 5.45mm bullets constantly bounced off the cockpit glass and hull of the helicopter, however the heavy armor allowed it to shrug off all the bullets. Zaitsev quickly banked left and turned backwards, to head back to the airbase they came from. The bullet impacts continued for a short while after, but ceased quickly after the Mi-24 lowered its altitude. As they passed by the convoy that they came to assist, Viktor could see friendly soldiers waving.

05/06/2015 - 2:17 PM local time - Danja Luka - Zolevskoy Headquarters of Defense, 12 Celsius - Rain

Danja Luka was a large, bustling city during a typical Wednesday afternoon. Some people had just gotten off work after a long day, some were already on their summer vacation, and most were still working at whatever job they had. Perhaps the most famous sight in the city was the Drugog Avgusta chain bridge. The Second of August bridge was constructed in 1899 during the era of the Empire of Zolevskoy, and was first named the Desetinu od Januara bridge, and then the Peti Maj bridge, and then the Drugog Avgusta bridge. Other sights in the city were the Danja Luka Lutheran Cathedral, the Parliament of Zolevskoy, and the Julan Norad hotel.

In the headquarters of the Zolevskoy Department of Defense, the situation was busy and hectic. The commander-in-chief of the Republic of Zolevskoy Armed Forces, Radovan Cihlar, had ordered an emergency meeting with his highest ranking commanders to discuss the current situation in Kozelsk; after a major incident just inside the region between Zolevskoyan and Ordian forces. There were no casualties on the RZAF side, however there have been confirmed Ordian casualties.

Nearly everyone in the building who passed by CiC Cihlar and the two officers next to him saluted, and the new commander of the entire Republic of Zolevskoy Armed Forces saluted back to put them at ease. Radovan just became the new commander in chief just in January 2015, and the decision to appoint him with the position was controversial. He was known to be much more aggressive than the previous commander, Alexej Zdislav, and was responsible for planning Operation Clean Victory, the operation that pushed out most ZNP remnants from the Bystrica and parts of the Kozelsk region in February. He was criticized for ordering airstrikes to be conducted in areas with high civilian density, however at the same time they destroyed many ZNP assets such as ammo and weapon caches, command stations, etc. Nobody knew what he would possibly go for in a second war with Ordia, where he again commanded an armored unit that took part in the infamous Battle of Vas.

After 20 minutes of walking, the CiC finally reached a large conference room. Inside it was a large oakwood table with 6 leather chairs on both the left and right side of it and a single chair at the top end. The room was completely empty of windows and the wall was a dreary brown-tan shade. It was complete with a dim light which lit up the entire room and a wooden floor. Other than a few paintings of famous battles that Zolevskoy has taken part in and a large whiteboard with a projector just behind the head chair, there were very few features that made the room unique. Radovan took his seat at the end of the table while the other 2 officers following him took a seat on the right side.

"Gentlemen. It is good to have you hear today, as the situation in Kozelsk is becoming grimmer each day. I must go to another meeting at 3:00, so I will make this as quick as possible." Cihlar began speaking. He took a sip of the glass of water that was to his right on the table. Each participant of the meeting had a complimentary drink of their choice. Most simply chose sparkling water.

"As you may have heard, an Ordian force of soldiers, most likely platoon sized force from the information we have right now, crossed into our territory just a few days ago. Information on casualties is rough at the moment, but our forces have said that while our ground forces wounded one of them, a Hind managed to kill another soldier. The Ordians returned fire but did not inflict any damage." The CiC continued.

"And we must not forget the threat sent to us by the Ordian foreign affairs ministry just a day before that incident took place. Thus, we have reason to fear they may be planning another attack that will be much more forceful than their previous one in 2014." The other officers could hear the concern in his voice. "However, we must not fret too much. We have learned lessons from the previous war and we know what their attack will most likely be composed of and their strategy. We must continue adapting to the biggest threats they pose to our homeland, military, and our people."

"Sir," One of the officers in the back began. "we mustn't assume that they will do what they did last time. They too also may have adapted to what our defenses are like. Do not forget that they have an even better political advantage after the war." The middle-aged man took a sip of his water.

"Therefore we must be prepared. That is the key word in this. As you may know they first attacked with their air force on our defenses; followed by sending in their Legionaries via ground. They and their allies also used heavy amounts of artillery, mainly from BM-21s. However, there were multiple flaws in their attacks. First off, their choice to use their AML-90s as what we presume as their idea of a tank to lead their assault. The 90mm cannon on them failed to penetrate the armor of our armored forces, and our 125mm cannons tore straight through them. They were effective against fortifications and infantry but they were extremely vulnerable to airstrikes and armor. However they began using their T-84s towards the end of the war, so we must also prepare for them. Along with that, the formations used by them made it a turkey shoot for our aircraft." Radovan took another sip of his water, as he did every time he finished a paragraph of his.

"For this, we must focus on countering their aerial and armored forces by setting up sturdy defenses against them, and exploit any weaknesses they may have such as their formations. We must also ensure that all ground forces can not pass the border without suffering few casualties and obstacles. We must also set up early warning systems and measures that will let us know of any impending attack, so that we can contain them while they are just beginning so that they do not grow too large." Radovan finished.

"Sir, what types of defenses do you have in mind? And what about any volunteer forces, such as the Aronians that we faced last year?" Another officer asked.

"Both of those will be addressed now." Radovan took a larger sip of water and cleared his throat before continuing. "As you know, the Ordians used their air force extensively in their attack, and before any ground forces were sent in. Therefore, I propose we establish a very large anti-air defense system all around Kozelsk; focused in the northern and central areas. We will utilize any anti-air systems we have such as our S-300s, 2K12s, 9K22s, and our new S-400s. However, there is something I would like to try for the anti-air. It involves deception." If anybody in the room wasn't paying attention before, they for certain were now.

"A fraction of anti-air units we send in to the region will be sent in during the day on the normal roads like usual. These will mostly be the older anti-air such as our 2K12s. However, during the nights, more advanced anti-air such as our S-400s will be sent in the cover of the dark. After they arrive at their designated locations, they will be covered up in camouflage netting so that they will be extremely difficult to detect. If Ordian air units begin attacking, the camouflage nets will be removed and they will engage any hostiles they can. It'll be a terrible surprise for them. While what I will call the "night anti air" will move into areas with dense vegetation and trees, the "day anti air" will be more for options to set up in. Something else I want to try are dummy anti-air and other types of vehicles. With this we can fool any aircraft that come to raid them by making them target inflatable, dummy vehicles that have the shape of our S-300s, T-98MS', artillery pieces, radar stations, and even some aircraft on makeshift airfields that we can establish quickly. We can place the dummies in the northern areas so that we can get a head start on them." The old commander waited for a moment as some officers in the room took notes.

"I also intend to do this for artillery. However, units will not be as discrete when they are brought in to the region. However this time, I want to focus on using mobile artillery such as our DANAs, RM-70s, 2S1s, and BM-30s. Maybe we can even set up some LR-98s and OTR-21s that can fire into Ordia to destroy any important assets of theirs; namely anti-air and command units." Pausing for a moment, he began to speak again. "Now that we have that covered, we need a way to warn us early of any possible impending attack. One thing I have in mind is if we could possibly contact an ally of ours, such as Hayabusa, to watch over their airfields and military bases and notify us of any abnormally large activity. I am confident they will accept our offer, maybe we could even give them something in return. Of course, we will also buff up our radar stations near the border. We may be able to purchase some from our allies; however I am confident in the sufficiency of our current radars. Finally, air patrols. I want constant, and even larger patrols conducted by our JSu-90s and other jets at our disposal to patrol the skies near the border at all times. Day and night, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They'll work in intervals so that they can refuel, and rearm if needed."

"Sir, if I may ask, what about their navy? Last year we saw a confrontation in the Bay of Lowren and it is likely it will happen again." The officer closest to Radovan on the right side of the table asked.

"That is exactly what I was about to get to. As you may know, our naval fleet is far superior to the Ordian fleet. Although they have received new ships, we still have several advantages over them. They are still using diesel submarines while we have nuclear ones at our disposal. However, we should still prepare for the worst. As you may know we have about 105 new P-800 anti-ship missiles that will arrive by July the 10th. Although we still have a few P-800s and P-700s at our disposal among other anti-ship missiles we have, I think our newest shipment of Onyx missiles will provide us with an even greater advantage. Do no forget that we also outnumber them greatly; so we will be able to form a blockade around their waters to ensure that none can get through. The key word here, for this, is containment."

Radovan lifted his right hand up to check the watch on his wrist. 2:59 PM.

"That wraps up what I have planned for now, I must head to my next meeting. Later on this month I will call you men up again to have another meeting, to discuss what we will do with our ground forces. You are all dismissed." All the officers got up out of their seats after they were dismissed, and headed out the door.

"What a month this is gonna be."

Subject: Request

Dear Sir or Madam,

As you may know, the situation between us and Ordia in the region of Kozelsk is gaining tension quickly. I assume you have heard of the recent border incident where two casualties were inflicted on the intruding Ordian soldiers, and we fear this may not be the end of what will possibly be once again another flashpoint in our region. Ever since the previous war in 2014, we have decided to research the tactics and strategies used by Ordia's government and military to undermine is politically and militarily, so that we can counter them and, if it comes, inflict heavy casualties upon their military forces in the event of another attack.

One of the tactics we plan to use is early warning. For this, we would like to make a request to allow us to prepare for any impending attacks. We are sure that you have a satellite or two that are capable of surveillance, and thus we request that you may share information on Ordian military movements that appear as any possible impending attacks. If you request it, we are willing to repay you in return for our request.

Thank you for taking your time to read this.

Faithfully yours,
Republic of Zolevskoy

Nikola Naval Base, Western Ordia

The base had repaired some of it's facilities since the last war, though some needed work. The base sat in Western Ordia, a notable far-cry from the rest of it's country. The region was a huge draw for many during the spring and summer because of it's weather. It had a lush characteristic about it, though this didn't mean it was always spared from the frigid fall and winter conditions. The base was filled with activity, as crews worked on damaged buildings, the crews of the ships were assembling in the docking areas. The supply and maintenance sections were checked first in roll-call, then boarded the ships for inspection, the long lines of various sections, various jobs, boarding after them in a single file line from sea's of blue uniforms.

The Kozelski border incident had created a fierce amount of tension in the military and government. There was no way this incident would go unanswered. Drills were usually done further away, the Navy had a different course to follow. Regardless, with anyone and everyone's leave cancelled there was suspicion at work amongst the base. This suspicion was valid, it turns out. Orders had arrived from Admiral Doležal in Ludnow. The whole fleet was to disperse by each group and sail out into the Strait. This would take time, but for one ship this was never an issue. ONS-S1 had already departed port and was sailing not far off the coasts of Metohija Island, Cydonia. The 30 man crew under Commander Sejna were already right at home as they continued to scan the sea's for activity, they had already noted dozens of merchant ships and fishing vessels after they had left. The ship was home, though it nearly got them killed a year ago. The Ordian Navy had to make do with it at the time, but it had received new engines, the old diesel ones were sitting at the small sub-pen at the base. They were certainly something the scrappy engineering section was proud of.

Of all the activity, Sejna seemed to be the only one taking it easy. He sat within his office resting and casually looking over paper-work now and then. The ship was to go into the entrance of the Strait and note any activity. This could be difficult. The entrance was filled with merchant ships everyday, of every hour. Occasionally there were also military vessels running through, observing the area. Regardless, the mission would go on.

Ludnow National Army Base, Republic of Ordia

The 1st Infantry Division, much like it's comrades in the Navy was suddenly called into action as they were packed into trucks, each one driving off as quickly as it could be loaded. The men were being driven to the countryside of the base. Several vast areas separating it from the city itself. In these areas troops were trained for the combat they may very well face. In these fields and hills the units trained with artillery, small arms, and the yearly war drills. It would be a large operation.

Of course it was meant to simulate war, but for many of the soldiers in it, especially those of the 1st Division, the drills were far from reality. Dozens of men were sent out into the fields to set up targets for small arms practice, but the wooden boards lacked that certain, ferocity that a very hostile, sufficiently trained and armed foreigner could offer. Other units prepared themselves for the events of the next day.

07/06/2015 - 1000 local time, somewhere near the Zolev-Ordia border - Kozelsk, 20 Celsius - Sunny

A pair of 2 JSu-95 Mstka multirole fighter jets, codenamed Osa 2-1, flew above the vast grasslands of northern Kozelsk on the hot Sunday afternoon. The heat from the outside was defeated by the old, weak, yet somewhat functional air conditioning inside the Osa was part of a much larger wing of 10 other JSu-95 JSu-90 Sochev jets that was tasked with patrolling the skies near the Zolev-Ordia border in Kozelsk. There were 3 Osa teams in total with the same goal, and each interval for them lasted anywhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes. It was often boring; despite pilots cracking jokes every now and then and the scenery there was to view. However, seeing the same scenery pretty much every day got boring quickly. Sometimes pilots got so bored, they wished the Ordians would attack just to have something to do.

"Milosevic, you think you could ask if the guys on the ground could fire some artillery towards their side? I want something to actually take in and enjoy for a sight." The second pilot, Corporal Dmitar joked to his current leader, Sergeant Ljubo.

"You may have some soon. Look." Ljubo pointed out to his wingman; looking towards the Ordian side of the border. Two or so figures in the sky; presumably aircraft from the abnormal shape, moving parallel to Ljubo's jet, and was most likely at least 5 kilometers away. He had a gut feeling they were MiG-29s of the Ordian air force; and prepared for the worst. He already fought them once in the first war, and he didn't feel like fighting them again. "Dmitar, keep your eye on them. I'm gonna let base know of this." Ljubo immediately switched channels over his communications as his wingman looked in awe towards the movements.

"Grishak Airbase, this is Osa 2-1, message, over." Ljubo spoke over the comms.

"Osa 2-1, this is Grishak AB, send, over."

"I've spotted what appears to be a MiG-29 or something no less than five kilometers away from the border. We're proceeding to follow them and make sure they don't cross, how copy?" Ljubo said as he banked his aircraft to the right to get a better sight on the jet.

"Affirmative Osa 2-1, watch yourself. Do not engage unless you are engaged first or if they cross the border. Stay on our side, out." Both Zolevskoyan pilots watched as the MiG-29 continued on it's path.

Ludnow National Army Base, Republic of Ordia

A few volley's of artillery sounded off, the shells landing at or near designated coordinates. Combat vehicles drove across the open fields, transporting me to certain areas. Soldiers took aim and fired away at targets with various small arms. Vast clouds of dust were raised into the air as the troops practiced. It was going to be put to use very soon. Other units were training as well, the 2nd Mechanized, the 3rd Armored etc. There were also many reservists. They had gone through basic, but hadn't seen much service, if at all. It was in times like this the chances seemed uncertain.

Above Southern Ordia, Kozelski Border

Two Mig-29's were running a standard patrol in the skies over the area. Air patrols didn't occur as much in peace-time in this area, since the closest Airfield was some miles away, but in this situation, the patrols had been increased. The two 29's were running parallel to the border. It was over these same fields and hills that an intense and large air battle was made. Several planes on both sides were shot down in the course of it. The two pilots in particular, Cpl. Jakub Laska, and Sgt. Roman Banik were piloting both. Jakub spotted the two distant figures and alerted Roman, but seeing their distance apart neither alerted base. They would however, try to keep an eye on them. Like on the ground, the skies were just as dangerous. Both pilots and soldiers working in the area were always warned time and again (regardless of how long they had served in the area) that a fight could break out anytime, even if things weren't so tense. The two planes continued running along the border at high speed, the earth and all of Ordia and Kozelski passing beneath them.

07/06/2015 – Ordia Military Drills Condemned as "Provocative" by Zolevskoyan Government, Mobilization of Navy Begins
Image
Pictured above: Zolevskoyan Navy Sokoj class cruiser in the Sovgrad Naval Yard, June 2015.

The Ordian military forces have recently begun conducting large-scale military exercises near the capital city of Ordia. The Zolevskoyan government quickly took action to condemn the drills, with the president denouncing them as "provocative" and "dangerous towards the stability of the region".

Many aircraft, ground vehicles and infantry are taking part in the drills and have put many citizens of Zolevskoy and Kozelsk on edge as the situation in the disputed region continues to spiral out of control. Many fear that these drills are a rehearsal for an imminent invasion of the region, which is what the Zoelvskoyan government also fears.

It is estimated that over 20,000 Ordian soldiers are taking part in the drills that are estimated to last for the next few days, according to Republic of Zolevskoy Armed Forces officials.

Meanwhile, the Zolevskoy Naval Forces have begun to mobilize several destroyers, frigates, and other types of vessels into the Bay of Lowren. This mass movement of forces, according to military officials, is for "protecting the territorial waters of Zolevskoy and other allies". Several naval vessels are rumored to be carrying P-800 Onyx anti-ship missiles, which are capable of flying at supersonic speeds towards their targets and are known to cause devastating damage.

More info on the situation as it becomes available right here on AAN Zolevskoy.

07/06/2015 - 1005 local time, somewhere near the Zolev-Ordia border - Kozelsk

Ljubo continued keeping a close eye on the MiG-29 as he slowed down his jet a very little bit. Banking to the right slightly, he got closer and and closer to the border between Zolevskoy and Ordia. He was merely 400 meters away by now and he could see the helmet of the pilot in the cockpit of the Ordian jet.

"They're looking at us. Stay alert." Ljubo ordered Dmitar. The sergeant switched his weapon to the R-77 radar guided missiles as the MiG-29 was to the right of him still, but also ahead of him.

08/06/2015 - 1442 local time, Bay of Lowren - 30 kilometers from Ordian territorial waters, 34 Celsius - Sunny

After several hours of sailing through the beautiful blue waters of the Bay of Lowren, the 40 vessels that were ordered to move into the vast body of water had finally arrived at their destination. The Zolevskoyan government moved the navy into the bay under the guise of "protecting territorial waters", but in reality it was meant to be a show of force. The Zolevskoyan government only said there were 5 submarines in the fleet being sent out into the bay, which was true for now. Later on, if the situation continues escalating, many more submarines will be sent in to act as "hunter-killers". Currently, there were in total 5 cruisers, 20 destroyers, 5 frigates, 5 submarines, and 5 mine warfare vessels.

While 20 ships, consisting of 15 destroyers and the 5 frigates formed a small blockade merely 10 kilometers away from the territorial waters of Ordia, the rest will stay behind and act as reserves for the time being. However, a single Serkala class nuclear attack submarine would be sent into Ordian waters for as long as possible, and remain underwater so it would avoid being detected. It would not go far; only about 10 kilometers inside.
