The Second World War

Map: Coming soon.

The year is 1940. The outbreak of war in September 1939 caught everyone by storm after a false hope of peace after the Munich Agreement in 1938. Poland fell quickly to the Germans and Soviets, falling in just a month's time. A titanic effort is about to be begun by the nations of the world against each other. All-new weapons and tools of war will be invented in a never before seen display of destruction, sucking in nations that had tried so hard to get out of it. The conflict will shape the globe for years to come after. You will take command of a nation in this time period. Whether or not you participate in this world war or not is up to you.

The outcome of this war remains to be seen, if the Soviet Union is pummeled into a bloody pulp or if the British surrender to the Axis. Anything could happen.

Rassenburg, Rhineland
Day of Case Yellow

The nation of the Rhineland had reluctantly declared war on Germany after their invasion of Poland in September 1939. Most military leaders knew that the Rhenish military would never have, in any case, been able to hold off the far superior German Army for any sustained period of time. But for the sake of morale, they kept quiet and didn't make their objections heard. In the war room underneath the city itself, people were examining the situation on large maps and organizing a hasty defense of the nation.

Prime Minister Schmitt and General Reinhard Kantler were particularly oblivious to the bad situation the Rhine was in at this point and tried to commit all of their forces on the border. Brigadiers Becker and Fleisher did not agree with this approach, and they argued for hours inside the cramped, slightly damp war room. Becker attempted to end the argument by really lashing out at Kantler. "We cannot survive a direct encounter with the German military! If their invasion of Poland was any example, we should be annexed within days! We should not jeopardize the lives of our civilians and the lives of our soldiers. I suggest we surrender."

"Damn it, Becker, you're only a Brigadier! I'm the commanding officer around here and I know what's right for the military that I command! The Germans merely had a fluke with the Polish, they're very dumb if they think they can take us on! The British and the French will surely protect us." Schmitt nodded at Kantler in agreement. Fleisher started to put together a comparison board to show the enemy numbers and equipment with their Rhenish counterparts. Becker still tried to carry on the argument. "Kantler, I doubt we can. What did the British and the French do when the damn Reds invaded Poland? Nothing, that's what. They declared war on the Germans but not the dirty communists, what do you expect they're going to do for us?"

Schmitt began to think Becker's reasons over while Kantler kept endlessly providing shallow reasons to keep on the fight. Minutes later, Schmitt made an announcement to the three generals. "Me and President Muller have unanimously decided the Commonwealth will surrender to the German Reich. At least that way we'll get to keep some autonomy. It's better that this war end quick than the war become a meat grinder like it did twenty years ago." Becker and Fleisher looked happy while Kantler did not.

Helsinki, Finland

Prime minister Tapio Ahonen walked up the stairs of the recently completed royal palace of Finland. It was fascinating, a palace of 18th century structure but lit by electronic lights, and mostly covered in blue carpet on the inside. The finnish banners waved from the bailey. He was accompanied by two royal guards and Carl Gustaf Mannerheim, the finnish field marshal. Two other guards made salute as they walked past them, and opened the large gate for them. There, a servant of the king met them and lead them straight to the king, who was in his library. The king was a physically weak man, but he had a weak mind too. A perfect man to manipulate.

"Your majesty" Ahonen said politely. Mannerheim bowed a little respectfully.

"What an unexpected surprise Mr Ahonen" The king said, trying to sound just a bit happy, but the falsity in his efforts just made him look more disappointed. "What gives me the honor?"

"I am here on a purpose, you are right on that point. I want you to write to Otto Strasser". He raised his eyebrows, in an asking way to him. The king was only dressed in some kind of pajamas, which made him look even weaker than he were.

"Why should I write to Otto Strasser, Mr Ahonen? I am a constitutional monarch without any influence on the government. But you keep coming here, telling me what to do, where to visit and what to say. I want you to stop doing that Mr Ahonen, or I will see you suspended from this palace" He looked up on the prime minister, with seriosity.

"I am sorry your majesty, but I can't let you do that". He said with a very cold voice.

"I'm sorry, what did you say?" The king said, now with a bit of anger.

"I am the only man in this country, with the power of satisfying all republicans, and I have to say, there are many, including Baron Mannerheim here. I can have you deposed, at any time your majesty, but I choose not. Because my people, the finnish people, is proud of their country. They are proud of the finnish people, the beautiful lands and even their king who doesn't care" He said loud, articulating a lot. The guards stood at the door, silent as mouses. "So listen to me your majesty, you are going to write a letter to Herr Strasser in Germany, congratulate him for his recent victories and the campaign in Poland. Tell him...that you stand with him. That you think that he should invade Scandinavia, for the recources and the strategic position they have there is of vital importance for anyone with the ambition of defeating Britain. Tell him that Finland wants a piece of the cake, and is ready to support Germany in Europe."

The king looked up on him from his seat, chocked. But he instantly gave in.

"I shall do what you want mr Ahonen". He said silently, and with a taste of depression. The prime minister turned around with a smile on his lips, followed by field marshal Mannerheim. The guards opened the doors for him as he walked out of the library.

Berlin, German Reich

Otto Strasser sat at his desk, eying the map on the wall. He slowly stood up and walked over to the map, examining the situation he could see that the Reich was in such a position that a decisive strike was needed now. Some of the Generals had drawn up different plans on how to knock France out of the war, one plan was a repeat of the Schlieffen Plan from the Great War. Another, which Strasser found very compelling, called for an Armored Strike through the Ardennes Forest. As Strasser was walking back over to his desk, in order to examine the plans again, a knock on the door sounded. Gruffly he said, "Come in."

Looking up at the courier Strasser asked, "What is it?" Excitedly the courier said, "Sir, the Rhenish have surrendered!" Strasser smiling with some amount of glee read the letter before going to his telephone. He rung up the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht, "Field Marshall Keitel, the Rhenish have surrendered. If you haven't already heard. I want troops to move into major Rhenish cities as soon as possible, maybe we can seize the Rhenish Navy." Keitel hesitated for a moment before saying, "Yes sir, we can move five corps into Rhenish territory know. Orders are being wired to the local commands as we speak." "Danke Schoen." Strasser hung the phone up and sat down in his chair.

Rhenish-German Border

Private Heinrich Dussel walked with his platoon towards Assen. They were assigned with putting Assen under German Rule for the time being, at least until a full peace treaty could be hammered out concerning the Rhenish. The countryside was peaceful compared to many places, without the weapons it would be as if the men were just going on a morning hike. But soon, he knew, they would encounter the French or British in combat and many of them would die. Sighing, Dussel pulled out a cigarette and lit it taking in a deep puff.

LITHUANIA

PROLOGUE

Kaunas, Lithuania.

The sound of marching men roars throughout the night, commands are overseen throughout the timeline, demands of formations and orders on behalf. Thousands of men have already been stationed and deployed in cities across Lithuania ever since the Soviets took Vilnius from the Polish garrison. Lithuanian flags soared through the skies, rippling with banners, battle chants and more.

This was no accident, although the majority of the Lithuanian army was stationed within the important political, geographical and economic centers, the army was incredibly disorganized, recent estimates that if a war were to break out, the Lithuanian army wouldn't be ready to start fighting until 2 weeks, far to long to defend a tiny land such as Lithuania. However, the major generals and nearly all troops were well trained thanks to years in East Prussia before the coup, and with stricter policies in place to shape the army in a splendid condition, it was only a matter of time until the army would be re-organized, yet they had to do it quick.

War could not just be won with guns and men, levels of machinery were involved. The Lithuanian air force is near-non existent, or at its best, incredibly small. However, with slowly rising economics, more effort is made to purchase land vehicles such as tanks, artillery and infantry vehicles, the current number of such utilities is small, and non-existent when compared to Germany and the Soviet Union, however, when Lithuania joins the axis (hopefully), the number is ought to increase.

Speaking of industry, little of it exists within Lithuania, however, seeing the effort towards it, more spending is focused on the development of Lithuania, bearing such a small population and workforce, it bears a huge challenge, yet it is possible in the long run, and will benefit Lithuanian agricultural trade over the North-European plain.

Rome, Italy

Generals of Italy were thinking about new strategies to use against the allied powers. They had ideas to invade France to allow Germany to have much more sea access, should the British blockade the North Sea. They also had plans to invade Egypt, but decided that the invasion of France seemed more important. They contacted Germany to coordinate a uniformed attack of France and get better technology.

From: Ugo Cavallero
To: Otto Strasser

In an attempt to facilitate the success of triple alliance, we would like to coordinate a uniformed military attack against France, which, if successful, will soon force France to surrender to our military might. We would also appreciate Germany sharing their advanced technologies with Italy, such as the tanks, planes and small arms. We need the ability to create these technologies ourselves, allowing Italy to be much more powerful.

Meanwhile, Italian troops and tanks were already preparing to invade France. They were going to pass through Germany and get to France, allowing them to reach France without passing through mountains or seas. The Italian navy has many of their boats around the western Mediterranean Sea, should a naval attack be launched against Italy.

Chapter 1: A New Day and a New War

Ottawa, Canada
William Stevenson was a tall fellow, 6'4, and built like a tank. His short blonde hair was cut just like the military's. In fact, his whole look screamed military, from the ridged stance to the determined look in his piercing blue eyes. He was 51 and had served in the Canadian infantry during and after the first world war. That's where he began loathing Britain, who had sent him and his fellow brothers off to a war in which they had no buisness fighting. There was no threat to Canada, so why should they fight in the war? Nevertheless, it was his duty to serve, and serve he did. By the time he got out in 1923, he was a full Captain.

Walking out onto his balcony to deliver the weekly speech, William cleared his throat "Ladies and Gentlemen, today I come to you to address the growing concern of the black menace that is growing in Europe; Nazi Germany. They have already driven deeply into France-" this brought out a roar of boos and hisses from the crowd. After waiting for a moment for them to calm down, he continued "Now I know many of you, especially those from Quebec, love France. I do as well, but I am not going to send our boys across the pond to their deaths. What I am going to do though, is ask that any male who is unemployed, ready to graduate, or unhappy with their jobs, join the armed forces. Thank you"

Hôtel Matignon
Paris, France

Monsieur Lafayatte gazed over the pleasant treetops of the relatively quiet Rue de Varenne. A fresh drizzle always made the City of Light an enjoyable morning adventure, and today was no exception. However, there was nobody on the street to enjoy it - but this was not too surprising. When news of the war in Poland reached the ears of Parisians, the mood in France was one of somber, if not dread, excitement. It was not uncommon to see a man, or woman, wheeling a luggage container headed off for the country, in fear of "plastiquage", or German bombardment.

The Prime Minister himself was not in the greatest mood. He had just arrived from a meeting with Her Majesty Marie Philippe, a woman known for her uncertain temperment. The outbreak of hostility with Germany had certainly improved her air. It seemed to Lafayette as if his office was buried under the continual flow of telegrams and communiques from enemies and allies alike. Not only that, but he had also had to deal with the preparation of defenses along the Meuse River and Alsace.

Suddenly, the white-washed oak door of his lavish office burst open and an aide charged in. "Monsieur," The girl gasped. He recognized her as one of the younger pages. "The Foreign Minister has received a communique from the Belgian and Rhenish intelligence. The Rhineland has declared unconditional surrender to the German Regime."

Lafayette slammed his hand into the varnished pinewood desk.

"Do we know if German troops are moving into the Rhine yet?" He asked.

"Our intelligence estimates... around a couple of days. Would you like me to pen you a letter to our Defense Secretary?" She proposed, looking a bit nervous.

"Oh yes, definitely. We must prepared for the inevitable German advance. I need to send a notice to the British, too."

OPERATION AUGMENTER

CONCERNING GERMAN MOVEMENTS THROUGH THE RHINE
Conduct strategic bombing campaigns on major Rhenish cities, along with western German towns.
Occupy the country behind the Rhine itself.
Around 370,000 troops will be mobilized to answer the task.

CONCERNING THE DEFENSE OF FRANCE
Establish defensive perimeters along the Meuse and a secondary line on the Seine.
In case of a German "blitzkrieg" strategy, in the case of Poland, French troops will retreat to less over-extended positions in Paris, Reims, Nancy, and Dijon.
The "Saarbrucken", or Alsace-Lorraine, will be evacuated by French troops. A token force shall be left behind in order to use an attrition strategy against the Germans.
Reinforcements from Britain will be obtained.

France requests immediate British assistance to combat German movements in The Ardennes and the Rhine. Time is imperative.

Rassen, the Rhine

Although a bright day in the city, a blank of clouds was drifting over from the West. Suddenly, the air-raid sirens began screaming and the whine of bombs could be heard throughout the town. A convoy of French Amiot-143 bombers along with an escort of Breguets were seen in the sky, numbering around 30 planes in total.

The same could be seen in multiple other Rhenish cities, including Rotterdam and Maastricht as the French tried to halt the German advance, and any usefulness the country's armed forces could provide for the aforesaid regime.

Rassen, the Rhine
War Room

The top echelon of the Rhenish military were all in the underground war room,. General Kantler, leader of the army, Admiral Lumenstedt, leader of the Navy, and Commandant Farnacht, leader of the Air Force. They were all making plans to slowly transfer control over to the Germans without a French intervention.

Prime Minister Schmitt was trying to eat a snack he had cooked for himself, but a mysterious sound of rumbling above him continuously prevented him from doing so. Finally, he snapped. "What is this incessant rumbling noise," Schmitt said. "I bet it's artillery or bombs. Must be a lot of them too." Finally, a soldier from above walked in with a surprised face. "Sir, the aircraft attacking our city are French medium bombers!"

Everyone inside was shocked at this revelation that the French would be willing to attempt such an operation. "This cannot stand," the generals said. Although they were initially reluctant to fight for the Germans, their hate toward their previous allies had only grown because of the French attack, despite it being not that damaging. "We must take action, military action, against the enemy."

A radioman came in as well and whispered something in Kantler's ear. He nodded then told the radioman to go back to his duties. "The 4th Army in the southern Rhineland is ready to conduct offensive operations against the French Army. Air support is a given, provided by the air units in that region." Ludenstedt walked forward and put his finger on a map of the ports with the most significant naval forces docked in them. " Anti-aircraft artillery and regular air patrols must be placed at these places. They hold the most of the Navy's vessels, and as such must be defended accordingly."

Prime Minister Schmitt then gave the go-ahead for the 4th Army to attack Northern France.

Assen

The German forces out in the countryside were greeted by Rhenish forces in the area who were supposed to be redeployed to the south. A Rhenish sergeant greeted Private Dussel and saluted him. "Hello. I am Sergeant Wolfgang Reiner, part of the 22nd Division garrisoning this city. You may enter, as we are supposed to be deployed to the south to protect against French incursion. As far as we know there are no troops other than our own inside our nation."

CHAPTER 1: "WAR, WAR NEVER CHANGES"

Lithuanian Soldiers training in the feilds

The sun's glaze was burnt out by the waves of cloudy skies, the sky fell under a grey tune. Despite the depressing conditions, it would not stop the courage and nationalistic pride in aiming towards the goal. The Lithuanian 4th infantry division, previously stationed in a military encampment nearby several agricultural zones, set foot off to more to a more western position, perhaps near the Polish-Lithuanian border, now under the rule of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Although by this time, it was only a matter of marching upon road, the nearby swampy conditions proceeded to leak out the feeling of disgust, but the troops knew they would win, it was for their country.

Men within the march turned towards the officer leading the mission, and set out possible goals for the future. As more would enlist, further would also deploy within the Latvian border, whom had feared to soon be under Soviet rule, if they were unable to defend themselves. But Lithuania vowed to ensure this wouldn't happen. Hours pass, the men arrive towards the western frontier. Not far from the Polish border, or Vilnius in general, here lies the pride of nationalism, and anger. Intimidating the 'illegal occupation of the Lithuanian capital', a large Lithuanian flag and banner is waved high up into the smoky skies. The division arranges themselves in a more organized formation, as new reports for the re-organization overhaul of the ranking system. The men sing the Lithuanian anthem, and preform their daily routines of excessive, however, there was still plenty to be done.

Kaunas, Lithuania

Joint German-Lithuanian flags were flown over the government buildings, with officer guard standing still towards it, armed with guns to secure the building. Aside from the wagons of troops, civilians drove and walked by, the lack of modernized transportation and agriculture drew a clear warning sign towards the economy, but the odds were in favor. Kaunas was the first city to experience the funding of modernization, recalled "The Kaunas Plan", it involved slowly, yet steadily developing Lithuania. It would begin in important urban and military areas, such as Kaunas and Vilnius (if regained), it may take months to years depending on the economic effort, but would eventually shift to the countryside, developing agriculture and boosting Lithuanian economic morale.

And then were was the axis, seeing the strength of the blitzkrieg against Poland, Lithuania had already diplomatically sided with the National Socialist German Workers' Party since the Lithuanian coup, and wished to further strengthen bonds. With the Nazis seemingly willing to let nations such as Slovakia and Romania enlist within the axis, Lithuania hoped they wouldn't be an exception. There was still a level of concern, despite the relations, there was nothing stopping Germany from wiping out Lithuania in less than a few days, or take advantage of the little resources that Lithuania had, but if the goal were to be achieved successfully and Lithuania were to join the axis, it would be beneficial. Lithuania would finally gain protection from the Soviets, and now pose a threat to regain Vilnius as many nationalists desired revenge. In addition, Lithuania would be secured and the military numbers and vehicles would increase, and economics, and hopefully in exchange. Lithuania fighting along the German forces.

A few days were to be passed until the request would be sent, otherwise, until then, Lithuania had to showcase that they were capable of sustaining and fighting a war, and so begins the re-organization, enlistment, deploying and purchasing/building period. Although this is minor due to the Lithuanian size and population, it would still showcase a advantage for Germany having a additional route to the USSR and buffer-zone, being better than a new Italy in the baltics.

"What do you mean the Rhemish surrendered!?" Churchill shouted, exploding with pure rage and disdain "Have they no thought of the consequences this WILL have in the war effort? Now we have no way to have a guarded northern front, we'll have to dedicate more troops to it and have even fewer in reserve! God only knows whether their empire will surrender or help us in Africa but someone inform the Governor of East Africa to mobilise the Kings East African Regiment and set them along the border of Rhemish Congo (OOC: I'm assuming it's Rhemish Congo since the French don't own it) and tell them that they will attack should the Congo not join us and someone send a damn letter to the Rhemish Government and get them to London immediately!" he ordered, causing many in the room to scatter "And send the Canadians a letter and get the Royal Canadian Regiment down here NOW!" he shouted after them.

Churchill took a deep breath and collapsed in his chair, the exhaustion of the day slowly taking its toll on him "If only that fool Chamberlain had listened to me, then we wouldn't be in this bloody mess" he said to himself before picking up the telegram from the French and reading through it, he imposed it upon himself to write a reply.

To: French Officials

You seem to have forgotten that the British Expeditionary Force is already enjoying the sunny weather of France along the Maginot Line. I would suggest you mobilise the forces quickly and head into Rhemish territory if you want to quickly gain the advantage but I advise you to leave a force behind in reserve should the attack fail, rest assured that the Royal Navy will provide you with cover from the coasts and we intend to blockade several Rhemish ports and evacuate the Rhemish government. I also suggest that we both copy the German's initiative and create regiments dedicated to airborne operations. I suggest a force comprised of 2,500 Frenchmen and 2,500 Brits make up this Parachute Regiment if we are to get a well oiled fighting machine from them. And mobilise your forces in Indochina, I do not trust the Japanese to stay out of this and we had best be prepared should they attack.

From: Winston Churchill

To: Rhemish Officials

While your foolish action of immediate surrender is understandable due to the...inequality that your forces would face against the Germans, I advise you to gather as many as you can and flee for London so that we can continue to fight the Fascist scum. I also beg you that your colony not surrender. The Italians are in an alliance with the Germans and I fear the worst of fighting may occur in Northern Africa and we WILL need every man possible if we are to win.

Kind regards: Winston Churchill

To: William Stevenson

I understand that you have a disdain for the British after the fighting of WW1. I too am ashamed of how that war turned for slow, bloody trench warfare and I feel further sorrow as I commanded the disastrous Gallipoli Invasion. But I must beg you that you do not sit idly by as the continent of Europe tears itself apart in war and I ask that you send the Royal Canadian Regiment to Britain so that they can take part in the first wave of fighting against the Fascist Germans. You will be free to appoint a commander of the 1st Canadian Division and I advise you send some men to North Africa aswell as Britain so that both theaters may be better prepared. And as you are closest to the Asian Theater along with the Australians and New Zealanders, I request that you send a contingent there so we will have garrisoned forces around the Empire. As we speak the 4th Mixed Division is on its way to South-East Asia and every available man to that theater as I fear the fanatical Japanese may have plans. Again, I am sorrowful that this war is necessary but the actions of my predecessor has brought it upon us.

Kind regards: Winston Churchill

The finnish king, Timo I sat down in his library. He was surrounded by at least one hundred thrown away and together craned letters. He had in front of him the letter he was to send to Otto Strasser.

To: Otto Strasser.

Great leader of the German reich, I'm happy to congratulate you for your victories so far, I hope the german armies shall soon have defeated Britain and France. Finland is in a terrible situation. From the east, the sleeping giant of Soviet always threaten us. The finnish people stand with the germans, so let us join your alliance. I also have to advice you to invade Scandinavia Herr Strasser. Denmark and Norway will be easy targets, and Sweden too. They doesn't have much of a military, unlike Finland. We could assist you in this, which would make your invasion much easier. Just dispatch some troops, because this will be a strategic position in defeating Britain, and there is recources too. What do you say? I may not represent the Finnish state, but if you believe in what I say Herr Strasser, please contact our prime minister Ahonen. He is a great admirer of yours, you know. I hope you get my message safely, Herr Strasser.

Sincerely, Timo I Nordenswan.

Chapter 2: Flaming World

William Stevenson had just opened his mail, on top was a letter from Britain, more specifically, Winston Churchill. William despised Churchill after the Gallipoli incident so many years ago, where both of his brothers met their untimely demises. Taking a deep breath to quell his rage, he opened the letter. His expression got darker and darker as he read on, each word seeming to pain him to read. After finishing, William called his Foreign Adviser, who arrived only ten minutes later. Will handed the small man the letter, who read it almost three times faster than the President seated in front of him. "Where does Churchill expect us to get all of these men? After the cutbacks 3 years ago, we barely have 4,000 men ready to fight! And this will not even be a fight if past experience has taught me anything, it will be a massacre!"
"Sir" the Adviser began "If we do not send anyone, it will make us look bad internationally, but if we do, it will make us look bad domestically"
"Go on"
"What I propose we do is send a small detachment of a thousand men to aid in the evacuation of cities and villages near the front, only fighting in self defense"
"Hmm" William pondered for a moment "That could very well work. Yes, let's do that"
After a minute of small talk, Stevenson sent the Adviser on his way and drafted a letter back;

To; Winston Churchill
We cannot allocate so many men to the fighting, at the moment we only field around 4,000 battle ready troops. We will, however, send a detachment of 1,000 men to aid in the evacuation of cities and villages around the front. Mind you, these are not front line soldiers, so they will only fight when absolutely necessary.
From: William Stevenson

At the same time, the 20,000 new recruits had begun their first week of basic training, using surplus WW1 weapons and uniforms. Some did field the new Olive colored uniforms, but most still wore the old Khaki. These new men wold be divided among the First Infantry Division, Second Armored Regiment, and Third Naval Infantry. Training would take four months to complete.

Rassen, the Rhine
War Room

Prime Minister Schmitt was sitting smoking a cigarette out of worry that the Germans would take him out of power when they arrived in Rassenburg. However, a communications soldier arrived to inform Schmitt about something. He looked up at the communications grunt with an intrigued face. "What is it, soldier?" He took a while to catch his breath before replying. "Prime Minister Schmitt, the British have sent us a message."

"Let me see that..." Schmitt took a while to read it then began thinking to himself. Later, he called in his generals. "Gentlemen," he said, walking in front of them, "the British have sent us a letter. We are not going to accept this. Our fate was sealed when the French bombed our cities and ports without any regard for civilian life. Admiral, you get our vessels into the hands of the Kriegsmarine immediately. Kantler, you inform our troops in our colony that they are switching sides, and that they must hold off the inevitable Allied invasion. Commandant, get our planes into the air and start raids on Allied airspace."

After the generals left, Schmitt started to write a letter to the British Government.

To the Prime Minister Winston Churchill
From Prime Minister Johann Schmitt

Greetings,

We have surrendered to the German Reich. At first this surrender was reluctant and half-hearted, but after your fool allies the French bombed our towns and cities, we have decided to fully fight for the German cause. There is very little you can do to stop us. Our colony will side with us. Good day to you.

Forward Operating Base, Zhengzhou China
May 2, 1940

"General Seishirō Itagaki, it is good to finally meet you here." A young Lieutenant said, bowing to the man commanding the new offensive against Chinese forces. "We have been expecting you sir."

"It is good that we can now continue our advance south. But I'm afraid we must rethink our tactics." General Seishiro "It's clear that despite our efforts, we simply cannot break through. This of course is due to the Chinese trying to simply wear us down, until they can reorganize and preform a true counter attack. This coupled with the other resistance forces, we are making very little progress by land..."

"We simply don't control enough infrastructure to move our troops around effectively." Another Imperial Japanese Officer replied. "We have the men, just we can't move them effectively."

"That's why I have been given full command of this military operation. I've already gone over the plans with General Korechika Anami, and has been approved. In order to have any chance of success in the southern regions of China, we had to change our plans. It has been determined that a large amphibious assault of the southeast coasts, may be enough to deter the enemy. An army of 10,000 men has been formed on Taiwan, and will soon carry out the assault. As for our armies here in the Henan Region, their main focus will be to move further west, to eradicate the Chinese forces that run free in the countryside." General Seishiro explains, leaning over a map on a flimsy wooden table. "A strong attack in the west may open the gates for the coastal assault to move further inland, and hopefully join together to to capture the Cities of Changking and Changsha. If these cities are taken, we will have the industry needed to capture the rest of China." he takes a set back from the table "It's a huge, and risky plan, but we believe it may work."

"It seems better than anything else we can do at the moment. I'll send out an order to get the troops mobilized again to move west sir." the Lieutenant says, sitting down before a radio set.

Yoshijiro Military Camp, Henan Region, China

Once the order was received at General Yoshijiro Umezu's forward base, we gave his own order, commanding the bulk of the troops in the region, amounting to almost 70,000 troops spread across other camps to march west towards Xi'an, the closest Chinese stronghold.

(Please forgive me if anything seems rather strange here. The Japanese-Sino War was always very confusing to me. >-<)

Berlin, German Reich

Otto Strasser looked over the Finnish letter as he casually smoked a cigarette. So the Finnish want in with us, he thought. He'd have to write a letter back soon, walking over to his window he looked out over Berlin. The National Socialist flag flew proudly over many buildings, soon enough it would fly over Paris as well he thought. Letting out a drag he walked back to his desk and started to write a letter back to the Finnish. Then he would have to thank the Italians for their cooperation and start communicating plans with them concerning the French.

Timo I Nordenswan,

I thank you for your congratulations. But I must say though control of Denmark and Norway would both provide great strategic positioning for U-Boats and other resource's I do not believe we can spare any materials for an attempted invasion of either country. It would be far more prudent to use our available resources against the Western Allies for the time being. However it would be of great importance to formalize an alliance between Finland and Germany at this time.

Sincerely, Otto Strasser

Strasser gave the letter to an aide, "Take this to the Finnish embassy, it would be important that they receive this as soon as possible." He decided he would send a telegram to the Italians, informing them of German War Plans. Once in the War Room he examined the map put before him, 136 German Divisions of various compositions were poised across the Western Front. The High Command had already gathered around 2,000 Panzers of various types and makes east of the Ardennes. In two days time the hammer would strike through forest towards Verdun and Sedan, following their fall the Wehrmacht would push towards Paris with supplementary forces swinging north for Dunkirk and south for the Maginot Line.

Strasser composed a telegram informing the Italians of his full plans, and requested their assistance in Northern Africa and Southern France. As much as he was unsure of the Italians ability to hold the French and British off in Africa it would have to be enough. He would let them formulate their own war plans as they saw fit and offered them some diagrams for Czech tanks that had been seized in Czechoslovakia. They could pin down valuable Allied Divisions and allow German Troops to break through in the north, maybe it would be enough maybe it wouldn't. He sent the telegram to Rome hoping they could do there best.

Southern Rhineland
May 11th, 1940

Though it was Spring no birds sang their songs. Heinrich Dussel found that slightly depressing, he missed his home back in Breslau. Looking around the already torn landscape saddened him. Earlier in the morning the Frogs had bombed their positions again though it cost the bastards two aircraft, their remains burning within a kilometer of his position. The French controlled the forest before them, manning it with several machine guns and men. He figured there was maybe a couple Zugs worth of troops in there. But behind the German lines there were tanks gathered up and soon, he knew, they would charge forth against the French hopefully dislodging them and sending them back to Paris. He drifted off to sleep in his foxhole figuring he'd need all that he could get, before the storm started.

The Italian military received the telegram from the Germans and were preparing to act. The Italian navy were preparing to launch a major naval landing somewhere in southern France. The Italians were readying 75,000 troops to be shipped out 2 days after the German attack begins, on the 14th. However, this major amphibious attack could be challenged by the British forces and the Regis Marina would have a hard time fighting them head on. To solve this, submarines are immediately deployed to the Strait of Gibaltar to deploy sea mines and anti-sweep mines to at least delay them long enough to allow the landings to occur. The placement of each sea mine is recorded so that they may be neutralized if need be.

In Africa, a similar tactic is used. The plan was to place mines by the Libyian-Eygptian border and the Sudanese-Ethiopian border. It would take too long to plant the mines there, as it would take too long. Instead, large planes were flown to drop many mines around the border, laying the mines wherever they happen to fall. Because it is a desert, the wind would soon cover the mines in sand, thus burying themselves. The Libyian-Sudanese border was heavily defended by army personnel, and not mined.

Admiral Andrew Cunningham, Commander-in-Chief of the Mediterranean Fleet, stood at the prow of his ship, the HMS Warspite, as is sped through the the sea while a soothingly warm breeze greeted him as it moved. The mission he had received was simple, after being informed by the Maltese Listening Post that there was an Italian fleet heading towards the Gibraltar Strait but their purpose exactly was still unclear but the 1st and 2nd Battle Squadron was dispatched to deal with them while British authorities in Egypt shut down the Suez Canal to Italian ships and the 1st and 3nd Cruiser Group while the 4th Battle Squadron was attached to them. He had sent word the the Naval Command requesting that several submarines could be dispatched to the Mediterranean Fleet to help disable Italian conveys to the mainland. He sighed, This is going to be a long war he thought before turning around and walking back to the Bridge.

"Commander on Bridge!" a voice called, greeted by the crew standing to attention.
"Someone patch through to the Gibraltar Regiment" he ordered, dismissing the crew to go back to working
"Here sir!" A young radioman called a few moments later
"Thank you" he said, taking the radio speaker and waiting for it to go through
"Hello?" a voice sounded
"Hello, this is Admiral Andrew Cunningham of the Mediterranean Fleet"
"Sir!"
"Yes,yes. I need you to prepare the Gibraltar Regiment and man the 9.2 inch gun and someone get the depth charges running" he ordered, hanging up before turning to the rest of the men "Same for you lot"

LITHUANIA
CHAPTER 2: "THE PREPARATION"

Lithuanian Armed Forces parade in Kaunas

Observing the incredible power of the German Blitzkrieg, recognizing the importance of drawing Lithuania into a war without armed machinery would be a disaster. Casualties can soar beyond millions at times, and the Lithuanian armed forces, although well trained, are too small to take place in large numbers, in large battles. In response to this, Lithuanian expeditionary forces may be non-existent unless fighting alongside allies within the same front, the Lithuanian Armed Forces will pose a offensive stance of strategical regions, for example; Vilnius, if there was to be a war brought out between the two powers.

Kaunas, Lithuania

As sunken feet rose up, men marched, tanks drove and leaders discussed, the peak organization of the army was approaching, only a matter of days would be left until all that would matter would be sorted out. With the loss of Vilnius, Kaunas had become the nations new capital, and amongst one of the most important within the industry, the center of the steadily growing industry. Of course, this 'industry' is nothing when compared to the might that the USSR and Germany can produce, as-well with other major powers such as the French Republic, the UK, and so on. The economy had indeed been on a spending-spree towards ammunition, training and artillery and tanks. Hopefully, if Lithuania were to be accepted within the axis, this would send the military further, and possibly access Lithuanian aircraft, which would support ground advancement.

Infrastructure is on a all-time high, thriving upon the new work force, and the simple labor required to construct it. This makes the organization and regrouping of the army, incredibly faster. Lithuanian flags soared up, piercing into the clouds as more marching and parading took place within the city. There might even be a barbed-wire border with Latvia and/or the USSR, although this would benefit to defense, it would backfire on a offensive, and thus it is on a stalemate towards the discussion and debate.

Most importantly, the diplomatic en route towards the German Reich had recently been withdrawn, although there was a sense of 'being nervous' (of being rejected), it was a possibility. The best estimates claimed that Germany expressed no interest in Lithuania, but with this nation having its own goals, and similar to Germany in a ideological and goal sense, it could work out. The letter to Germany was to be written. (Next post)

Once the submarine commander detected the British battleships coming towards them, he hissed and said "How did they know of our plan? It doesn't matter; fall back! Drop the sea mines now and go back to Italy!" The submarines then submerged and dropped their sea mines while turning around. They then sailed east, towards Italy. They thought it would be a bad idea to fight them head on, as it would get them killed. They contacted the Italian naval base and told them what happened.

The Italian military at base were shouting "Gah, how did they know of our plan so fast?"
"Is it not obvious? The submarines went straight past BRITISH Malta!"
"Well, we better make them cut that out! Maybe some bombings on Malta will sort them out! That'll put them in their place!"
Italian heavy bombers flew over Malta escorted by fighter planes are sent to Malta. They targeted air strips and dockyards to lower their morale and weaken their defenses. They also called on Germany to support them, as more bombers means a faster surrender.

The Fight:
Anti-Fascist views were growing in Argentina. The Colombian threat was growing closer to their borders. With the Colombians warmongering in Central America, President Meyer was forced to put Argentina in a state of militarization. He just stepped out of his vehicle, walking at a fast pace to the podium. Along Side him is his advisers and the Republican Guard. Together they sped through the halls of the Stadium walking towards the Podium that was ahead. The People started chanting when the president appeared to the public eye. The president got up to the mic and let the crowd silent down. He soon started his speech.

"My fellow Argentinians. Today I would like to talk with you about defense. For more than a year, the world was locked in war. Our neutrality kept this nation United. The great industry of the nation has kept us alive during these times of trouble. The people work hard to strive to the top. We don't create problems but we stay out of other nations problems. We sign treaties, we sign bills, just to stay out of the major conflict. We surpass our needs to help others that are endangered. But today our Defense and Armed Forces is out of control, and everyone knows it. Yes we have good armor, weapons, planes, and hell we have a great navy, one of the best in the region. But we have little or no control over the ranking system. It is not in order. But its bin this way for decades and for decades we did little about it. Now its time to jump over this hurdle. Which is endangering our country from a defeat from our despised rival. That Rival is Colombia. Colombia is warmongering among other Central American countries. They threaten their neighbors with a massive army. It is time we stand up against their warmongering and step in as a regional Power. Our army has untouched potential. We can be the regional Power. But its time that we straighten up and stricken our military forces. I propose a bill that will bring the high ranks to justice and that will fix our military problems by sorting out the incapable soldiers from the good soldiers. Because the last thing we need is having a fascist flag waving over Bueno Aires. The best part is that is estimated to fix the military system in just 3 months. Because Justice is what our army needs. If soldiers can't obey the laws, then they shouldn't be in the armed forces. They shouldn't even be near the public. So what I need from you, The People of The Republic Of Argentina to do is to vote for this bill. Because we need defense. We need our army. The People shouldn't fear the warmonger that's North of us We should fight him. We should not fear our enemies, we should stand up against them. We need this law to save our families for generations to come. We should not fear the Left Winged Fascist, that threatens our way of life. It is Time for a change. Let us show them that we are a force not to be reckoned with. With help from our allies. We will make sure that their will never be an enemy like the fascist in this region again. So let us fight. Let us create more warships. Let us create more aircraft. Let us create more Weapons! For the Republic!

The President left the podium as the crowd cheered behind him. He stepped into his vehicle and went straight to the Presidential Palace. At Late dusk the tvs were on as the whole palace watch and listen as the members of Parliament make their votes. For a period, little votes were being made until an hour later where the votes came flushing in. Vice President Belian was supervising the whole process. At 12 AM the polls closed and the majority passed the bill. It was another step towards ending fascism for President Meyer. The right Wing Conservatives had a small celebration at the Parliament and left for the night. The Following day, reform started being enacted in the military. Thousands of Soldiers have been discharged, hundreds were thrown in prison for crime. More War ships were began construction in the ship yards. Weapon and Munition Factories were kicked into high gear. Aircraft factories started more productions of bombers in the assembly lines. The nation began its militarization.

Chapter 1 ~ Overview

Overview
With war breaking out between the Fatherland and France, Danube was aware that it would soon hear the call to arms and it was ready to answer. The National Fascist Party Danubia, eager to prove its self to Germany was assembling forces in the west to march west and play a role in the invasion of France.

Meanwhile, on the home front a new infrastructure project was being undertaken in Ofenpetsch (Budapest), several more rail lines were being built to give metro connection to every part of the city, and also to connect the Ofen and Petsch metro systems. The program will ideally finish construction by 1946 and will employ 3,000 construction workers in the construction of the new metro lines. Also, some existing lines will receive 3rd lane allowing 3 trains to go by at the same time. And to sum this program up, it will connect to two above ground stations along national railway alowing Danubian citizens living in Ofenpetsch to get from their metro onto the main rail way system both East and West of the Danube.

Also in terms of infrastructure, Western and Central Danubia is receiving a new aquafier system, the Lake Balaton Program will include several steps
*Construction of a irrigation canal along the Sió-Kanal, which would irrigate surrounding farms,

*Construction of two canals on the North and South side of the Balaton, which would supply water to the surrounding towns and cities after going through a cleaning and refining process to ensure the water is safe for Human consumption.

This will employ 4,500 men from the surrounding area and cost about 12 Million Danubian Marks, construction is aimed at finishing in 1942

Millitary
The IV Corps consisting of 4. Magyarország Division and 6. Infanterie Division were assembling around their corp HQ of Steinamanger. Once permission was received from Germany they would begin a march to the Rheinland and begin supporting German-Rheinish operations there against the French.
We, per your approval would like to request permission to move units through Deutschland and to the front line on the Rhienland. There objective will be to deploy themselves in the Saarbrucken area. Once the invasion of France starts at your cue, we will order the 4. Magyarország and 6. Infanterie to move towards Strasbourg, keeping Garrisons along the way in an effort to pocket French forces into Hauguneau. We would then continue directing them as we sit fit to assist in the Battle of France.

Grunstadt
Northeastern Rhine

In the sleepy town of Grunstadt, the town was quiet and unimportant, focusing on agriculture and meat from cattle. But miles away from the town there was a military workshop where new tanks for the Rhenish military was being developed ever since 1938. Lieutenant-Colonel Friedrich Passenling was the top designer of this new tank. Surprisingly, the design work and final tests of the tank were not cancelled despite the Rhine's different allegiance, this time to the Germans. Friedrich and a few onlookers from the military's leadership looked on as the tank rolled across flat land and took test shots at a captured French tank.

The new tank was simply a redesigned Lorraine 37L with a turret on the top, armed with a long-barreled 75mm gun with a cupola machine gun and a coaxial machine gun. It also had more armor put on it for fear it would be too lightly armored and an easy target to face German tanks in the field. The tank's performance impressed military officials who then tried to talk to Friedrich.

"This is quite an excellent armored vehicle you and your team have built here," one said. "I say we accept this tank into service right now. We could use this very modern vehicle, particularly against the French." Friedrich's vehicle with the designation Mk. I Medium tank was accepted into service with the Rhenish Army and started to be produced in arms and vehicle factories.

Arel, Commonwealth of the Rhine
09:58 May 12th, 1940

Heinrich Dussel peered over the lip of his foxhole. 105s rumbled behind German lines and hellfire rained down on the French ahead of them. The wood was shaken deeply with splinters of wood flying as trees were destroy, men cried out as they were injured. Behind Dussel Panzers tracks clanked as they moved forwards towards the forest, Heinrich watched with grim fascination as a Panzer III fired a HE round into the wood aiming for a machine gun nest. With that the gun was silenced.

Shouts were had as a charge was ordered, men ran forth. "Für das Vaterland!" Shots rang out and men fell in behind tanks using them as cover until they reached the tree line. Heinrich managed to make it to the edge of a bunker, it had already been demolished by several AP rounds and it's inhabitants slaughtered. Maybe the plan would work maybe it wouldn't but in Arel one small victory had been made.

Over Verdun, France
10:16 May 12th, 1940

Leutnant Hans-Ulrich Rudel felt weightless as the Stuka rolled over into a steep dive. Anti-Aircraft fire filled the air above the city, and fighter aircraft from both sides darted about engaging in deadly jousts. As Rudel dove he got a full view of his target for the first time, a medium sized bridge of the Meuse River. Destroying such bridges would be valuable slowing French supplies that would be reaching the front lines.

Yanking the release lever, the Stuka pulled out of it's steep dive flying low and fast. "We got the bridge!" shouted Rudel's gunner. Feeling a bit prideful Rudel turned back towards the Fatherland.

Bolivian-Argentinian border:
The Argentinian Mafia has expanded into Bolivia where they expect to be protected from the corrupt Bolivian government. Argentina has tried to negotiate with the Bolivia but nothing has worked. Argentina's army has been sorted out in the northern region of the country and mobilized to war readiness. Now they await at the border to launch their full scale invasion of Bolivia to end the Mafia's trafficking. The final ballot from the people has reached the verdict. At midnight the artillery lights the sky over Bolivia as ground troops take the nearest village. The only opposition the army face is the police force and a small platoons of soldiers. Tanks and Dive bombers move into the city concentrating in local areas to disorganize the Bolivian military as the Argentinians slaughter hundreds of soldiers.

Back at Argentinian House of Arms, Generals predict to completely occupy Bolivia in a month time. Paraguay is their next target since their negotiations were turning sour. Parliament also used this as an opportunity. To gain an advantage over Colombia. Liberals protest outside of the Presidential Palace and outside Parliament. Conservatives counter protest against the liberals as the protest soon turn violent between both parties. The well funded police force stops the riots before they get brutal.

The Argentinian Mafia, also started to escape Argentina as the police force becomes more brutal. Their gangs have hunted the streets of Argentina as way to pay of debt. The "Family" has expanded towards Northern South America where they find more victims to hunt. The Invasion of Bolivia insures the peoples security against the Mafia.

Prime minister Robert Menzies stood at the podium and faced the sea of people who came to watch his speech. His face was somber and he was obviously in a poor mood.
'Fellow Australians, it is my duty to inform you of the new war that is upon us. After Germany's invasion of Poland, in retaliation Britain has declared war on her. This is consequential for us as a nation because we have been dragged into the war. It is Australia's duty to support the Empire and fight against these pest nations who threaten peace. I will be in contact with Sir Winston Churchill and we will discuss what Australia's job is in this time. Thank you'. Menzies stepped down from the podium but did not face the round of applause from the audience. He sighed and had a memory of the disaster at Gallipoli for the Allied forces.
'We'd better not have another one of these crazy orders again,' he muttered to himself.
*****
Back at his office Menzies opened a new telegram and started to write.
To Sir Winston Churchill,
I have delivered the sad news of Australia's involvement in this new war. I now ask you, what is the Army of Australia needed to do at this time? I am hoping for good, successful decisions from you Churchill and not a replay of The Great War. Britain has become more disrespectful of her colonies lately and we are still being forced to fight for her Empire against problems in Europe. please consider this carefully and reply as soon as possible.
Regards
Robert Menzies
