Transgender Bathroom, Hot Debate LGBTQ

Postby Nierra » Mon May 18, 2015 8:00 am

Believe it or not, this is a real topic.

I for one think it's ridiculous to go through immense construction costs, more bureaucratization, and policy overviews to give less than 2% of the population another bathroom option.

Not to be crude or anything, but simply use the restroom that best corresponds to your anatomy.

However, others will claim this is necessary to achieve equality, you know the spiel.

So NSG whatya think?

Both crude and insensitive. Your idea would be worse than the status quo, and just leave people vulnerable.

Also unisex restrooms would also be useful to families with young children, among other people.

Male/female Bathrooms, how is that insensitive?

I really don't get why people can't just use a bathroom that matches their genitals. Is it really so traumatizing and offensive to do that?

There are millions of people around the world that don't even have access to a bathroom. And yet, over here, there are people seriously arguing for bathrooms that aren't "offensive".

Seriously people, get your priorities straight. Its not going to traumatize you to use a male or a female bathroom.

Exactly

I'm all for equality, but there are seriously more important things to go after than "i feel like i'm a girl, so i should use the girl's bathroom"

Well, rates of transgirls getting raped in male bathrooms are quite high, so…

To be fair, that's not entirely financially feasible for everyone.

Even simpler: don't use gender-segregated facilities. Eliminate urinals, just use closed stalls for toilets - there you have your entirely gender-equal facility, with just the costs for dismantling the eventual urinals.

Why not install glory holes? It's cheaper, and it accommodates those that associate defecation and urination facilities with sexual activity.

Yeah pretty much this, unless we are going to go full unisex with all bathrooms which I might be ok with .

How about we take the approach that ends with the goal (equality) but actually eliminates the cost for businesses?
Why not make bathrooms unisex? One wall of urinals/sinks, one wall of stalls, two or so baby changing stations, condom/tampon dispensors.
They could make one bathroom about 1.5x the size of current bathrooms to fit in the extra accommodations.

In the end, businesses save loads of cash.
That and we can eliminate some of the gender/sex segregation that causes transpeople to be ostricized for not fitting the mold.

Seriously, there's actually no reason to not just have one set of facilities for everybody. Hell, my local leisure centre has had one set of changing rooms for years.

Have you been to a male bathroom? I'm not even sure if janitors go in there.

Let's play: "Who Can Be More Insulting to Trans People?"

In the red corner we have people who think trans people should have bathroom built specifically for them (implying the Ladies and Gents are unsuitable for trans women and men respectively). We haven't actually found anyone who believes this yet, but we're keeping it open as a possibility.

And in the blue corner we have those who insist trans people should use the bathroom that matches their genitals/birth sex. They're getting their arguments ready now, and then spending the mandatory 5 seconds thinking them through. Rumour has it some of them may even be attempting to apply the unorthodox strategy of coming equipped with an understanding of trans issues and the process of gender transition, though we have yet to see any hard evidence of this.

Later in the show, we'll be going onto Round 2, where Team Social Conservative competes with Team RadFem to see who can drive a trans person to suicide more quickly.

Ideally, I would want to have just unisex bathrooms and people would have to get used to the idea of sharing bathrooms with their fellow humans.

Realistically, I feel that people should go the the bathroom that corresponds with their gender identity, not their anatomy per se. That would be best for now, until people, i.d. society, are willing to spend the money to create separate bathrooms for trans people (which should be the goal).

Or you know...they could go to the bathroom of the gender they know they are (obviously talking about pre-op's here).

If people are willing to undertake such scandalous and abnormal gender changes, they should be willing to bear the consequences of their decisions. Authoritative bodies and citizens are not to be responsible for covering the expenses of such farces.
