My sincere thanks goes to Zeinbrad for what has become an incredibly enjoyable RP.
This is a first of it's kind RP for me, as it is the first I will co-head alongside my longterm friend - Zeinbrad, as well as this being the first RP I will head that will be split into a 3 separate acts. This first act, will take place during the opening stages of a Soviet invasion of the United States, through the state of Oregon and Washington on the West Coast on July 4th, 1984. Your role in this RP will be of a member of the Oregon National Guard, lucky enough to be at home, far from the meat grinder that Europe has became to be caught up in the crossfire.
Now for the part everyone loves:
As this is a professional RP, I doubt that I need to regale the basic policies regarding Godmodding, minimum post criteria or OOC & IC etiquette. If these obvious rules are broken and warnings ignored you will be booted immediately from the RP. If you are inactive or going to be inactive for a prolonged time then let me or COOP know so we can make arrangements. Those who do not post in a maximum of 3 days will be automatically removed from the RP and will have to make a new application to rejoin.
However, here is a quick skinny on the rules, break any of these and you'll have 99.
Thank you for your time. Please fill in the below application form to get this RP rolling!
Pre-RP Historical Timeline
Months before the Third World War began in Europe, each side that took part in the Cold War - East and West, were facing their own individual problems. In the East, the Soviets were busy dealing with the Mujahadeen in what would become known as the Soviet-Afghan War of 1980. Progress was slow to achieve, for the Afghan rebels were well supplied by the United States in secret. A crop harvest in the Ukraine had failed due to an unusually hot summer. Food riots in Kiev resulted in the Soviet Army being deployed to quell the disorder.
In the West, the United States was faced with the Cuban's aggressive expansion into the Caribbean. Sanctions had failed, and by March in 1981 the Cubans had taken Honduras, Belize, Jamaica and even pushed as far as Panama. However NATO remained united in Europe, confident that the US resolve would break any Soviet aggression with relative ease.
In late 1982, East German spy Gerhardt von Bruden defected to the West, gunning down two East German border officials on the way. Berlin demanded the immediate handover of Bruden, to which Bonn refused. A week later, reports of a series of Skirmishes between East and Western Germany were broadcast, with no relative evidence as to who fired first. Emergency summits were held in the Malta Peace Conference in January, 1983, where an immediate cease-fire was put in place by both NATO and the PACT. Whilst a potential war was averted here, it had severe ramifications and consequences for future summits.
In August, 1983, the already delayed ABLE ARCHER '83 exercise begun as planned. This 4 day exercise simulated an escalation in conflict, using conventional forces. However when the East picked up the exercise, it's realistic nature had the PACT thinking the the West was preparing for war. In response, the Soviet Air Forces in Germany and Poland were placed on secondary alert. But when a Soviet MiG-21 was mistakenly shot down by a friendly SAM, the Soviets rolled into West Germany.
Caught completely by surprise, NATO reeled back toward the French border. World War Three had begun in earnest. Despite aggression from the USAAF, it could not halt the juggernaught of the Soviet forces. Within 3 days, Germany was overrun. The war then spread to France, and the Mediterranean. North Korea had jumped at the heel as well, and had invaded South Korea with relative ease. Cuba became a military staging ground for Soviet interest in the South Americas.
Nearly everywhere they looked, NATO found themselves on several different fronts at the same time.
By the time Germany was fully secured, 2 months after it should of been, Soviet Commanders delegated on how they could restrict American involvement in the European theatre. This was where the Russians next greatest campaign came into plan. Operation Red Bear. The Soviet invasion and total occupation of the United States. Deemed possible by the most senior officials, and with the US bogged down in Europe, the Soviets spared no time in making ready battle arrangements.
And so, in the early hours of July 4th, 1984 the Soviets turned their plan into reality. In a similar strategy utilised on D-Day in World War Two, Soviet Special Forces paradropped behind enemy lines to disable and disrupt US Command and Communication posts, to make way for a massive airborne invasion of Washington and Oregon State, hours later. In Florida, the Cubans began their part of the attack early, and invaded Miami by sea. Whilst they achieved total surprise, the attack was not coordinated with the Soviets and thus had to act quickly to defend their gains.
By 10:00am the same day, the Soviet invasion of Seattle and Salem took place as planned, achieving complete surprise, and as expected, minimal resistance. This is where you come in, as a member of the National Guard with the enemy quite literally at your doorstep. Will you have what it takes, to halt the rampaging bear?
Equipment
Try as I might, I couldn't find anything here regarding National Guard equipment for this timeframe, so I will assume they use the oldest versions of the M16's, for the 1980s era. If anyone can rectify or clarify this ill be grateful.
Opportunities
Each opportunity will have some sort of distinct quality to the text, so you can tell them apart from the main storyline. You dont have to complete them of course, and some maybe impossible to accomplish. But for every opportunity that can be achieved but is passed up, there will be some sort of negative side effect to it. For Example:
A group of civilians got split from the retreat from Portland and have found themselves cut off.
Accept: Sergeant Anyone takes up the job of getting them out, daringly crossing the Soviet advance and getting them to safety.
Good Effect: Colonel Kessler recieves news of your bravery, and you are sure to be rewarded for your valiance.
Ignore: Sergeant Anyone is in the area and can perform the task*, but decides to carry on with other duties. As a result, the citizens are captured, their fate unknown.
Bad Effect: The Colonel is most annoyed by your lack of consideration for Hearts & Minds. And you are sure to know that he is not impressed with your actions.
Keep in mind that these are entirely optional of course, you can be a mericful saint or a cruel bastard. It is entirely up to you, but it will have it's equal effects regardless.
