A Stranded Roleplay...

Image

July 5th, 2009, 11:32 AM. The cruiseline Saint Margo was like any other. Big, beautiful, high capacity. It took off with the pull of a horn and hundreds of people waving goodbye to land. No one knew it then, that the Saint Margo, the majestic cruiseline, was ill-fated. They all thought they’d have a normal summer vacation. None of them knew how few would actually return.

July 8th, 2009, 8:49 PM. The Saint Margo experienced engine failure, right as it entered a turbulent storm. The boat creaked and groaned, pushed side to side by the large waves. Then, just the right wave hit. In a flash, the Saint Margo had capsized, beginning it’s descent into the Atlantic. From the sky, it looked as if no one had escaped the sunken ship. But if they took a closer look, they would see the orange rafts. They would see the rafts and how few were on them. With limited supplies, these survivors must make the right decisions, or it will be everyone’s fate.

Aye! This is a fun lil rp I decided to try, and I think it'll be interesting... oUo

1.) Don't eat your raft buddy.
2.)Don't kill each other without permission
3.) No Metagaming, godmodding, etc.
4.) Don't be a jerk in the OOC. You can be one all you want in the IC.
5.) Have fun! Make it interesting! :)

IC BEGINS AT JULY 8TH, 2009, 7:49 PM.

The ocean was beautiful this evening, the sun in the horizon slowly residing behind the ever expanding sea of blue now turned into many various shades of pink and purple, it reminded Adetokunbo of the beaches in Accra. He let out a sigh of comfort as he let his body fall back into a recliner. The United States had been an interesting place to visit he particularly liked Florida for it's warm weather but that was all past him now, and he felt confident that the deal he made would prove more than beneficial for his business. The sun radiated it's warmth all along the deck, the Saint Margo was a rather nice cruise liner but he shuddered at the thought of the expenses needed to maintain such a vessel let alone and entire fleet of these ships. Everything seemed perfect to him, his business was out of the way the sun was inviting him to relax and the sound of the ocean only added to the bliss. From what he understood this ship would take him across the Atlantic to Europe somewhere, form there he would take a plane back to Ghana, back to home.

Charlotte was in the corner, by herself, again. She felt lonely.

A group of people next to her laughed loudly, and she felt left out.

A girl a little ways away took a picture of her friend, and she felt unwanted

A man and a woman across the room kissed, and she felt unloved.

Soon she would go to Japan. Then she'd find her friend. Her best friend in the universe. She touched her necklace--an old key on a ribbon. Her friend had given it to her. It was her favorite--in fact, she rarely took it off.

Cadence Canning // 8 July 2009, 7:49 PM

The bunk was pleasantly comfortable. Not so much like her bed at home but more so than those at the hotel the family had stayed in only days beforehand. Cozy despite the cabin being essentially the same as any proper lodging. Perhaps it was the gentle rocking of the ocean waves which served to create this sense of contentment, or the colour and patterns that, while muted, were charming in their own right and so reminiscent of the home in England, or maybe the solitude was enough for the girl.

Cadence has spent the last few hours alone in her cabin – her parents were staying in the next room over. Too much sun had left the young girl feeling light in the head, and though she was enjoying the cruise and the vacation as a whole, some down time, no matter how fleeting, was much needed. With no reception or palatable connection for her laptop she instead relied on her book for entertainment, sitting atop the bunk with a thin blanket wrapped snuggly around her small frame and with the AC turned up just enough to give a slight chill. Cadence had brought along several books for her trip and was already well into the last. She would be done by tonight.

There was a knock on the door before it opened, her mother peeking her head inside. “Are you okay, honey?” she asked lovingly, worry for her daughter lacing the words.

“I’m fine,” deadpanned Cadence, turning the page.

Her mother stepped fully into the room. “I don’t want you spending the whole cruise locked away in your room.”

“I haven’t been locked away in my room. You got in well enough.”

“You know what I meant.” Her mother sat on the edge of the bunk, doting on Cadence as she normally would. “I can have something brought up if you’re feeling ill. Are you nauseous? Headache?”

“I’m fine, mom,” she repeated.

Her mother wasn’t too convinced. “At least come down for dinner.”

“Or you can come up for room service?” tried Cadence, not really wanting to leave the comfort of her bed.

A smile greeted her reply. “Nice try. Maybe tomorrow.” Her mother stood to leave, turning to face her daughter one last time before taking her leave. “Me and your father will be waiting for you downstairs. There’s a nice steak dinner and, well, I’m sure there will be something you like.”

Cadence sighs, closing her book without so much as bothering to mark the page. She’d much rather stay in for the night but there would be little point in even trying. Her mother would simply drag her downstairs though in as loving a way as possible. Resigned to being out and about, she fell from the bunk and changed into something a bit more appropriate than her dotted pajamas: khaki capris similar in style to cargo pants and a striped spaghetti top. Despite the warmth she took along her hoodie as well, per habit.

With a final longing look at her cabin, Cadence locked the door behind her and went down to find her parents for dinner.

Ryder was walking around the ship, even though he had done this many times he still got lost or couldn't find a room. He had walked around for quite some time until he saw a girl sitting in teh corner by herself. Ryder had never seen teh girl and decided to talk to her.

"Hello young lady," Ryder said with a faint british accent, he had always talked with the accent but it wasn't thick. "Name's Ryder Ashburn, I'm on my way to travel around the world. What's your name and why are you on the trip."

Sighing, Lewis looked at the time on his phone - 7:51 PM. Trying to make himself as comfortable as possible he shifted a bit in his bed, before leaning the pillow on the wall and plopping his head in it. His interest in history and geography meant that he couldn't wait to get to Europe; most places he had been were in the United States, in various monuments and landmarks his parents took him to every summer. He wasn't especially hungry, and he figured that he could just grab some snacks the ship offered. The crew was polite, but Lewis hadn't, for the most part, explored any of the ship or met any of the people despite his mother's insistences. He just wasn't a sociable person, and tended to avoid or not talk to people he didn't know, unless they asked him a question or remark that warranted a quick response to it. None of his friends had tagged along with him, but Lewis was sure he could manage without them. Rather bored he turned off his phone before sitting up in his bed. Lewis decided that he would just buy a few snacks with the money he had on hand with him. Exiting the room he walked down a hallway, trying to remember where he was supposed to go.

It was 19:49, probably dinner hour inside the ship, but Kaspar wasn't that hungry. He was lying back on a sun chair on the cruise ship's upper deck. The deck was quiet again likely because dinner was being served inside. Kaspar had never been on a cruise before so it was a new experience for him. His parents decided not to come and his friends were busy. So here he was, currently alone. He had met some French students the day before who he had eaten and hung around with. None of whom were on the upper deck currently. The boat moved gently in the waves, it was pleasantly relaxing and made a person feel sleepy.

The food however was very nice, he had ordered sushi yesterday. Perhaps his favourite food, to make that even better, the waiter who served him was particularly handsome also. The Saint Margo was giving good impressions on his cruise checklist and even though it was a trans Atlantic voyage it was still enjoyable. His original plan had been Australia, the Pacific islands and Asia Sydney to Tokyo. But this trip was working out just as well. Now a gentle breeze cooled the air making the upper deck perhaps the best place to be on the ship at the moment, not to mention the unspoiled views of the ocean.

"Hurry up Robin! We're going to be late for dinner!" A girl cried through the door, followed by multiple snickers. Robin, who had been pleasantly taking her time in the shower, was startled by the voices. "Hold your horses! Give me a minute!" She shouted back, continuing to wash her thick brown hair.
"We've already gave you a minute!" She cried back.
"Calm down! I'm getting out now!" Robin replied, shutting off the water and wrapping a towel around herself. She stuck her head out of the bathroom door, meeting her friends dark brown eyes. "Happy now?" She remarked.
The girl smiled widely. "Yes. Now get dressed!"
Robin met her smile, closing the door and quickly blow-drying her hair into it's flowy, wavy form. She then rushed from the bathroom, throwing on a pair of denim shorts, a white tank-top, and a light sweater on overtop of that. She then pulled on her sandals, following after her five other friends.
"You're wearing that?" One of the girls remarked.
"Ehh, yes..?" Robin replied.
"Hon, you know how many cute guys are on this ship?"
"No..?"
"Goodness...we've got work to do with you." The girl shook her head and laughed. Robin smiled awkwardly, becoming slightly self-conscious. Together, the six of them walked to the dining room, laughing and talking it up. Robin wasn't quite the most talkative of the six, and really just listened in and laughed occasionally. She really missed home, and couldn't wait until the trip was over so she could see her family again. Sure, it was fun, but...she missed her family. As of this, she always had a picture of them in her pocket. Always.

Cadence Canning // 8 July 2009, 7:54 PM

Cadenced walked down the near quiet corridor, her light footsteps seemingly louder than they actually were, her nose pressed into the book that she had brought along – again, out of habit. She wasn’t moving quickly but neither was she taking her time. It had been easy enough to figure her way around the ship so Cadence allowed her mind to wander as she made her way downstairs to where her parents were waiting, drawn to the story that had been engaging since the very first page. Sad that she was so close to being through and done and would be left without anything else to tide her over unless she so happened across a library of sorts aboard the cruiseliner.

She wasn’t watching where she was heading and very nearly stumbled into another passenger as she rounded a corner. Cadence caught herself and avoided a collision with a twist of her body, finding her footing before she could fall further. The boy that she had almost headlong into appeared older than she was but not by much, his hair messy in a similar manner to her own and being tall enough that she had to look up to even find his gaze.

Despite having almost been toppled by the young girl he maintained an aura of being lost, and though Cadence was not one to go out of her way for others, preferring to remain as well away as possible, she couldn’t help but to feel pity for the teenager that had acted as her speedbump. “Are you lost?” she asked finally, hoping that he would say no and that she could continue on her way.

Lewis had rounded a corner in what seemed to be an endless labyrinth of hallways, almost bumping into a girl in the process. She had blonde hair, and was younger than Lewis by a couple years. He would have preferred the both of them kept on walking, but of course that evidently was the case. "Are you lost?" She asked him. It couldn't hurt to ask her directions, right? Turning to look at her he said awkwardly, "yeah, uh, I just need some directions. Do you know where the shops are?" (Assuming thats where snacks are sold  )

“Shops?” Cadence thought for a moment. Shopping had never been her thing and so she tended to shy away from such areas despite her mother’s insistence, which often resulted in her being dragged her along regardless. Nonetheless she knew roughly where the majority could be found. “They’re a few decks below. Deck five or six I think. There’s an elevator down that way.” Cadence pointed to where she had previously been heading; to where the teenager had just come down from.

A goodbye or something similar should have been given but Cadence merely continued on with her way, her good deed done for the day. She continued on to where the elevator was and pressed the button, diving back into her book as she waited for the car to come and reach her.

Li Chanming
July 8
19:54 Hours

Chanming yawned, stretching his arms and rolling his neck around before settling back into the little chair that was on his small balcony. The ocean was beautiful, the sun a flame-orange orb setting the sparkling sapphire water ablaze with golden light and warming his little balcony so he could doze peacefully, like Grandfather on a warm summer evening back in Yanqiu. His stateroom was cheap, by many people's standards- he did know that- but even so, he thought it was more than enough. There was a queen-sized bed with a mattress like a cloud and fluffy white pillows, made every day by the room service people- nothing like his bed back in China, with its bad springs, lumpy pillows, and forever-disheveled blankets. He had a sink, a little mirror and soaps and a bathroom and shower, he had a television and a phone charger and wifi, and he could just walk down to the dining room or the bar basically whenever he wanted to. And so far, the cost was proving to be worth it- even this cheap stateroom was expensive for Chanming, but he had decided it was money well spent.
He was finally understanding why people took vacations- real vacations, not bouncing over bad roads for miles in the summer heat to go back to a village that he had spent his entire life trying to escape, just to see his family for a few days. He felt more relaxed than he had in years, free from the constant stress at work or the pressures of his schooling before that. Chanming had seen little of the world- Yanqiu, Chenzhou, Beijing, the cities of the Pearl River Delta- but now he was able to travel abroad and revel in the sights and sounds and smells and tastes of far-off places he'd only ever read about. He was smart enough to know that they weren't even scratching the surface of the ports they were stopping in- but that just meant someday, he would have to go back. Chanming had only ever seen a few pictures of the great European cities like Rome and Paris and London, and he was extremely excited to see them. Already he'd been able to see some of the United States, and he was starting to understand why some people loved travel so much.

He sat there for a little while longer, soaking up the rays of the setting sun, and then finally slowly got to his feet. I should head down and grab a bite to eat. With a yawn, he headed back inside, grabbing his phone, wallet, and coat out of sheer habit.

Chanming felt, as usual, a little dizzy as he looked at the prices- listed in American dollars- on the menu, but he knew he had allocated enough money to pay for what he'd ordered. His supervisor, Shen Zhao, had been nice enough to give him a bonus this year, most of which was going towards this cruise- but it was certainly going to take some adjusting once he got back to China to spending normal amounts of money on things.
The waiter, looking harried but keeping a smile on his face, hurried over, taking out his pen and notepad. "What can I get for you, sir?"
Chanming glanced down at the menu one more time. Well, you might as well, since you're trying new things. "Could I have a hamburger and a side of fries, please?", he said. His crisp English carried a slight British accent- he'd learned Hong Kong English in Beijing, and had managed to eliminate almost all traces of the normal accent many Chinese spoke the language with.
The server nodded. "Of course, sir. And can I get you anything else to drink besides your lemonade?"
"Actually, could I try the margarita? On the rocks with salt, please." I'm turning into a decadent Westerner, he thought with a slight smile of amusement, chuckling silently to himself.
"Of course, sir. I'll be back with your food as soon as I can, but there could be a wait of around twenty minutes, since we're quite busy."
Chanming smiled brightly. "Oh, that's fine! Take your time, I'm in no rush."
The waiter smiled appreciatively and hurried off, and Chanming took out his phone.

2 New Messages from Zhu Fang

He smiled slightly, suddenly wishing Fang had been able to come with him. She was busy with work, though, and while he did miss her, it was also nice to be alone and not have to deal with another person who he needed to also work to keep happy. I'll text her back later. Time to enjoy my first margarita, he thought, as a waitress approached with his drink.

Lewis muttered a quick thanks before continuing on his way. Once he reached the elevator, he waited for the doors to open. He took the time to think about the past few days; a lot of things had happened since then, and now here he was, on a cruise headed towards Europe. His parents were eating dinner, but Lewis thought that he should be back long before they finished. As they opened he let the people already in the elevator come out before he entered. Pressing the button which would lead to Deck 5 the doors closed and music came playing. He felt the elevator began to descend, and soon he arrived at Deck 5. Sure enough, just like the girl had said the shops were there. As he left the elevator he looked around; there were lots of people there, milling about in the shops.

Anton Balušík walked out onto the top deck of the Saint Margo, looking around. He saw people walking around, which was something he expected on a cruise line. It was quite a nice night, and the sky was clear, but it felt like a storm was incoming. Anton wanted to experience the night cool for a little while before going back to his cabin. As he walked around, he kindly smiled and nodded his head to several people. He thought about how glad he was to be away from home for a holiday, despite how much he loved Croatia. He saw several attractive young women amongst the people on the cruise, which made him happier. He hadn't been in a relationship since his first and second year at University, so he most definitely wanted to find a nice girl he could spend some time with.

Chapter I: The Calm Before The Storm.
Dr. Maxwell Oaksworth.
Aboard the Saint Margo.

It was around Ten minutes to Eight when Maxwell eventually awoke from his slumber. Still in his jeans and tightly fitting Henley Shirt, he had crashed out of his double bed a few hours ago. But few could blame him, only a week ago he was in Tanzania, scuba diving off the coast of Zanzibar, and the week before that he was in the jungles of Panama - jet lag had caught up with him and hit him hard.

With ruffled hair and unfocused eyes, he was welcomed back into the land of the living with sharp, blinding light of his bedside lamp. He groaned and part of him wanted to sleep a further hour but he knew he had to eat something. Like a stroppy teenager he picked himself up and managed to drag himself into the small, cramped bathroom to splash some water on his face.

After almost going into shock over how cold the water was on his face, he slowly made his way out of the cabin and to one of the less formal dining halls. For most of his childhood he was surrounded by neckties, which almost suffocated him, formal Black suits, which made him feel even more depressed, and fine food and beverages, which were far too lavish for his own liking. The informal buffet would do him fine - no dress code and no glaring, judging eyes which followed his every move.

After a slap-up meal his Father would most certainly disapprove of, Maxwell decided to take a stroll on the deck in order to allow his dinner to go down. The sea and wind was eerily calm - this was odd as the weather forecast informed him that the ship was expected to meet a strong, but non-threatening, storm.

"The calm before the storm." He muttered to himself.

All too often he had been in situations in the past when he was lured into a false sense of security by Mother Nature. Most recently at The Cape of Good Hope the yacht he was aboard almost sank due to adverse weather which neither the Captain, or Maxwell, had anticipated.

Snapping out of his pessimistic thought, he decided to go back inside and grab an Espresso that he hoped would waken him up even further.

After buying the beverage, he sat and sipped it contently, thinking of his life back home and how much of a contrast it was to the place he now found himself. Exploration offered him something the aristocratic lifestyle never could - freedom, spontaneity and risk.

With the bitter taste of coffee still tingling his mouth, Maxwell headed to the dining room where a casual dinner party was being held. It was hard for him to ignore since the crew, and the PA system, banged on about every two minutes gently reminding passengers to go and 'have a great time.' Somewhat reluctantly Maxwell entered the dining room where he saw many other passengers, having already eaten only an hour before he decided to linger at the bar.

"Vodka and Coke, please." He casually said to the barman while leaning, with one arm, on the bar itself.

His drink was given to him and he, once again, coolly sipped his refreshing beverage. Watching all the people mingling, talking and some even arguing, Maxwell wondered what the rest of the voyage would hold.

Julius was standing on the deck of the ship. He sometimes wanted the ship to move faster. This whole cruiseline thing was boring for him. He just wanted to return to the UK already.
It's already been a few years since he left, in that night. Taking part in that demonstration wasn't probably his best decision, but he wasn't regretting it.
Suddenly, it started to rain. Julius looked at his old pocket watch. It was already pretty late. Dinner was probably going to be served soon. Letting out a sigh, Julius started to walk in the direction of the elevator.
A few minutes later, the young British was in the elevator descending. He looked at his smartphone, but unfortunately he had no signal. Julius had no idea why, but he was feeling like something bad was going to happen. Dismissing it as just his imagination, Julius wanted to step out of the elevator as its doors opened.
Two girls were standing in front of the elevator, blocking the way out. From what it looked like, one of the girls had just bumped in the other.
"Can I... pass through?", said Julius to the two girls.

The ocean looked as beautiful as the national forests of Banff, and smelled as wonderful as the woods after a downpour, as Cedar gazed upon them from his law chair on the balcony of his first class suite. His left hand reached for a drink of brandy but the glitter of his metal watch caught his eyes and they drew towards it like bugs to an electric zapper. The little hand was on the 7 and the big hand was on the 10. Taking a sip of his beverage he considered to himself what relevance that had. "Of course!" He said aloud to himself "It's dinner time in ten minutes". He said aloud once more, thinking about the reservation he held at the restraint by the boat deck, booked so that he would get good food and potentially get natural sunlight that evening. As if by habit he walked over to the wooden coffee table, unplugged his phone from the charger and then proceeded to the coat closet. knowing how chilly it was going to be later on that evening after dinner when he planned to gaze upon the stars for an hour, pulled out his favourite deer skin frontier jacket with matching gloves and a raccoon hat folded inside the large interior pockets.
He took one more look around his suite, grabbed his wallet, and then left his suite, for the final time it would turn out. He walked down the aesthetically pleasing hallways in his warm and tall moccasins.

Charlotte looked at him. And stood back in fright. Stammering unintelligibly.

Julius looked at the girl."What's wrong?", he said, stepping out of the elevator.

Oh man. Oh man. He's talking to me. I have to say something. Come on, stupid girl, say something! She stammered a little bit longer and then managed to force out
"...nothing. I'm fine. Have...a nice... day?"

"Ok... thank you. Have a nice day too.", said Julius and started to walk in the direction of the dinning hall.
He managed to find it after a few minutes. Lots of people were already there, and Julius chose to ignore them. Taking a seat at an empty table, he started to look at the menu. The prices were all in American dollars, but Julius wasn't worried at all. He had enough money.

Charlotte sighed in relief. He hadn't tried to start a conversation or be friendly or anything. She walked away, feeling the painfully familiar sense of hunger.
