The Age of Expansion

Image

The Galaxy is Vast, With massive amounts of Resources, Planets ripe for Colonization or Conquest.
The Universe is Gigantic. It is Populated by Many Species and Races.
The Universe's Resources are nearly infinite, All ripe for Exploitation at the hands of Intelligent and capable races.
But it is the Same. The Races of the Galaxy will Expand. They will Colonize worlds. Alliances will be forged and Broken.
There will Be War, it is a inevitability.

Siedon

In ancient days the necrontyr had been renowned for short lifespans. Yet in the Stasis Docks of Siedon the mean age had been something over a hundred thousand years. To some families at Siedon, only a few hundred generations passed between the start of the Great War and its apocalyptic end. For here, close by the galactic bulge on the inner track of the Norma Arm, the great fleets of the Necrontyr had sailed forth in the ages before faster than light travel was perfected and understood, travel had been conducted with sleeper ships and high-relativistic drives. This was the reason the docks had attained their name, for in their day they had been famed for the stasis facilities and devices therein. The old docks – actually the four hundred fifteenth, having been attacked many times during the war in heaven – were a tourist attraction. A planetary ring not unlike the one that surrounded Venus in the sol system, lined with millions of graving docks. Only a fraction of that was in use at the current time, for the population of the Great Civilization had no need of the extensive resources their ancestors had used, and much of the rest had been left to fall into artful desolation – essential maintenance activities continued by automatic drones – for the true work of the strategically located Siedon was done far beneath the sandy dunes of the near-deserted planet, or sideways therefrom, for the planet was riddled with honeycombs of hyperspatial tubes and tesseracts, drawing back from normal space and shielded on the countless dimensions that might be used to attack it. Here modern ships were fabricated, power from the Dragon’s Eyes used to forge exotic materials into the components of such vessels.

Here, Æmelia ita Skagra leaned upon the railings of the core-access gallery of the Naerus Revin, a vast vessel of angular frame being fitted in the outer sections of the dockyards. Many C’tani vessels had their AI so integrated with them that they were considered to be their bodies, this one however, was a little more removed, the Naerus had its own distinct substrate systems.

The intelligence module therefore had its own motive capacities and power units, and was not a simple escape vehicle or emergency mechanism, but a gleaming block of living metal and radiant crystal wound through it, ringed in manouver, conversion and uni-field effectors, and surrounded by a green-tinged cloud of nanotechnology that crawled across its frame. Such a unit could be placed in a mobile factory base, or a number of other systems, and even levitate under its own, though not with great efficiency. Its frame was ornamented with green necrontyr text.

“How’re you doing Sias?” she asked the AI core, speaking directly to it.

“I am actually quite excited,” the module said, speaking audibly, despite lack of any human feature. “It’s not every day that you take control of a new starship after all.”

Connectors slotted into place; the ship was not set up to be controlled wirelessly, even with all the advanced technology in use, though it could be, instead, the moment the system connected to the AI, a surge of consciousness rushed through the vessel from bow to stern.

“System test complete, we are ready to get underway, attention all personnel, thirty minutes to departure.”

The Naerus Revin was a new class of ship, co-designed with the Menelmacari, its overall style used a lot of floating components, a cue taken from traditional Roanian design, but paired with reciprocal gravitic fields to make the ship’s drive able to achieve greater force by spreading its actuators out, a system akin to the very large array telescopes used for almost everything by Menelmacari star-travellers.

The style was shared in part by military craft in the way that they transported huge quantities of drones and other small constructs with them outside their hulls, but it had now been refined by Menelmacari and to a lesser extent C’tani scientists to allow suspension of large components off the hulls of vessels without compromising combat efficiency. This was not yet adopted for warships, but civilian ships were rolling the technology out, citing its advantages in acceleration.

The ship slipped through a hyperspatial tube from Siedon, appearing in high orbit as if from nowhere, and flourished its outer components, like a bird flapping its wings, testing their spread, before flight. It didn’t use them however, instead tucking them close in as it made the leap to hyperspeed.

Elsewhere

The Juggernaut was a different kind of vessel entirely. Not a vessel of the Great Civilization, and without its advantages. The design had not changed in almost fifty thousand years, and the overall technology had remained the same for ages uncounted. Its creators were not a dying race, they were more akin to the deep sea creatures on many worlds that survived from elder ages. Living fossils.

They were so few now that an individual might go its entire lifespan without encountering another of its kind, those few who were left did not breed in the way their ancestors had, but came directly from biocreators, strange womb-furnaces that used a living host, a volunteer these days for it was an honour, and their entire sensorium was blasted with nothing but bliss.

Their knowledge had consumed them wholly, altered what they had been beyond recognition, and made them simultaneously more and less than what evolution had sculpted.

There was not even a consistent shape for the mala'kak, who often took a facsimilie of the bodily aspect, through the arcane machineries of flesh-shriving, of the races they dealt with, retaining their original appearance most in their external biosuits at other times. Today though, there were eight such beings, gathered aboard one juggernaut.

They had been charged with establishing a research facility, the Great Civilization had need of every skill, for at last, it was turning its full power to armaments, and that meant that the biological talents of these most creative beings were needed.

They ploughed through the uncharted void, seeking somewhere sufficiently isolated to begin their arcane work.

Three Months Later

Æmelia looked out of the observation deck of the mining vessel, their shakedown cruise had consisted of torchship construction and tending, probe launches that would take decades to pay off, and more, now at last they were moving onto exploring systems that seemed more promising according to long range spectroscopy of planetary compositions and historical archives, the Naerus Revin and its multi-kilometer armed length – the C'tani did nothing by halves, and prospecting was important work – dropped from hyperspeed to the edge of a system, float-components spreading like wings as it returned to sublight speed.

"The Necrons were amongst the first beings to come into existance, and have sworn that they will rule over the living." - Still surprisingly accurate!

Office of the Fleet Admiral
Starbase 1, Terra
June 8th, 2537

The fleet admiral sat at his desk, looking out of his office's large window panel, gazing down at the planet's surface below. The cloud coverage of the blue marble that sat in the center of the Azure Nebula swirled around as the air currents slowly moved storm fronts along the equator up into the northern hemisphere. Well it looks like Debbie and the kids will be getting some wet weather in the next day, I'll check in on them later and see how they're doing. Kevin's report card comes in tomorrow and I need to make sure he got his history grades up. He's such a bright student, but he keeps failing to focus when it comes to 22nd Century history. The rise of the Superstates and their organization into the Terran Federation were some of the most important steps in history for Humanity. Of course I can understand his overshadowing of that with the primary focus being First Contact with the Alterians, Yigonans, Edarians, and Xanderians, the first four races that founded the Federation, but the Terran Federation was primary in human history. The development of antimatter power systems, the first Jump Drives to be developed, human unification after recovering from the Fourth World War, surely they would be important in his studies. But I can understand, its a different time now, the world is so much different looking out to the stars, and I'm far too much of a history buff to begin with anyway, I can't blame him for not being interested. Now where were those reports... ah ha, there they are! The admiral then touched the file on his desk's PADD and allowed all of the files to open around him, after choosing three separate ones to open. The first files were on current trade issues to the outer outposts and the problem of raiders attacking the trading ships. It's hard to defend these merchant ships out in the unclaimed areas. Many of these routes are outside of patrolled and claimed space, and it's hard to send ships out there to be refueled and rearmed. The only way these issues will be dealt with will have to be by expanding outward and developing a new centralized location in the unclaimed areas. Jericho seems like a prime outpost, military and research facility, mining in the asteroid belt of the system, a small starbase in orbit, it has the potential, but it needs the population and development. Maybe the Taurians will be willing to send out some colonists to develop the planet itself. The admiral sent the file into a folder and with that the file was sent to the Office of Colonization and Development. The admiral then stood up and ordered the A.I. computer in his office to open the map of known space. The Azure Nebula (as the Federation referred to itself in known space) had been expanding in the last few decades, with 12 current species in application for membership into the Federation and 28 new outposts, but what drew the admiral's attention were the positioning of the ships of the fleet. He stared specifically at the U.F.S. Endeavor, an older Liberty-Class starship, which was exploring the outer arms of known space and expanding the horizons of the Federation. The Endeavor, although an older class, was still a state-of-the-art starship in the field of exploration, and was in itself prepared for any type of conventional situation, and was currently exploring outward in hopes of discovering new civilizations and planets to explore and colonize. With that, the admiral was left in his thoughts for the Endeavor and the other starships travelling outward into the vast unknown.

U.F.S. Endeavor, on the border of known space

Captain Pine stared out at the vastness of space in front of him on his bridge's view screen. He comfortably positioned himself in his chair, looking down at his PADD and the ship's predicted course for exploration of the unknown space. As he checked the charted path, he looked up and began speaking to his first officer and the ship A.I.

"Gamma, how long until we're ready to make the jump into uncharted space?" Pine said to the A.I.

"Approximately four minutes, captain. Estimated time of charting systems will be 32.6 minutes for each system found. Based on current star positions and initial scans of the space, we have located at least 84 systems within the next branch of space. It shall take at least 2 days to chart the systems, while probes and exploration will last for an estimated 25 days," Gamma responded, "are you prepared to proceed?"

"Yes, I believe we are Gamma," Pine responded, "Commander Leston, how's the crew doing, ready for us to go explore uncharted space?" Pine asked his first officer, knowing they had spent the last two years dealing with raiders and pirates in the outer trade routes.

"As ready as ever sir, the crew is happy to be exploring again like we should be instead of fighting raiders, personally I'll be happy if this mission lasts longer than just the two years we're assigned for it, we all deserve the break." Leston replied, smiling slightly knowing they've got two years of this exploration mission ahead of them.

"I think we all agree with those thoughts, Commander." Pine responded. "Ensign, you're cleared to engage the jump on my mark."

As the captain said those words, the helmsmen immediately began entering the authorization codes to make the jump, waiting on the captain's order.

"Three... Two... One... Mark." Pine said, calmly looking at the view screen in front of him.

On the mark, the ensign entered the command into the ship, and with that the ship jumped into Slipspace, particles warping past as the ship punched its way into the plane of space where FTL travel was possible for the ships they flew, ready to go out and explore the new worlds ahead of them.

Space Station Yud, above New Marebosia
Star System Marrow - 05:12:45 AM

Reichspraesident Borealsi Trident Mir Sparkler-Honeymoon, leader of the Greater Novayan Reich, walked in the halls of the Yud Space Station as he talked to Vizepraesident Ushanka. "Next time Ushanka, do not wake me up while I was asleep." Borealis told him as a military officer interrupts the conversation. "Sir, the Joint Mobile Spaceborne Ship Atlas and its squadron, Valhalla Squadron, were ready to go. They will need your orders immediately." The military officer, who is a lieutenant commander, informed Borealis. He smiles and said, "I want a few battleships and battlecruisers be transferred to Valhalla Squadron. I want the Ardent, the Advent, the Thunder Child, the Thunder Lion, the Mountain Slayer, the Bismarck, and the Chocolate Axe be transferred to the squadron immediately. And tell the Council that the Greater Novayan Reich will stay neutral in any wars, however we will provide resources. Exact change only." Borealis said to the lieutenant commander, who nodded and left. "With this, I am now in command of the squadron and the Atlas." He then smiles as he looked at Ushanka. "And this is why you liked too much military sci-fi stuffs." Ushanka comments.

Char, Overmind's Primary Hive Cluster

On the surface of the planet Char, a massive volcanic planet, the Overmind was located in his primary Hive Cluster. Millions of Zerg covered nearly every spot on the planet that was not a stream of lava.

"The Swarm is doing well. My Zerg are in control of dozens of worlds now, my influence reaching further with every conquest. My foes here have all fallen before me, yet the galaxy is vast and many more threats lurk in it's depths.. My best option would be to find them before they find me, and to strike first."

The Overmind called one of his Cerebrates, living extensions of his will and leaders of his Broods, to him.

"Kalog, I have a task for you."

"What is it you would have me do?"

"I need you to take a Leviathan and your Brood and search beyond Zerg controlled space for other factions. I need to know what else is out there."

"It will be as you say."

And so, the Cerebrate Kalog took his Brood and boarded a Leviathan and moved into the vast darkness of space, in search of new planets to conquer...

The crew of six men were in an asteroid field on in a binary star system, months of FTL travel away from the edge of known space. They were busy overseeing the construction of a jump ring. Their whole mission was destined to build around ten of these in unknown space to allow the fleets faster access to deep space. The project manager, Mar Ahlstrom, discussed business while worker droids bustled away underneath the glass floor.

"So, this is it. This is the last ring. After we finish this one, we power it up, and head home." The taller kran had a reddish-black tint to his scales. He took a swig of water, holding it his mouth before swallowing. "And we all know that'll be nice."

The youngest in the group nodded in agreement. "I can't wait to go back to the institute and turn in my research paper on the whole trip. It's not every day you get to explore the Great Black."

Some time after, someone busted out the alcohol, and the six started celebrating the trip. It wasn't too long after, however, that the computer blipped with a warning.

"What the hell...?"

One of the probes they sent out into the system when they had first arrived detected a high energy release common with a ship leaving hyperspace.

"By the gods, we're not alone."

Deep within the city of SwarmHive, Lord-High Regent Zuul'Thann'Tar was annoyed at the lack of knowledge he possessed regarding other sentient species throughout the galaxy. They had already encountered and absorbed the Darkii, Tau, a single Necron tomb world and of course the masses of human slaves that served the empire. At last, he went through the files of various Inquisitors, Generals and other important people, until he found what he was looking for.
"Bring me Inquisitor-General Tach'Yon'Zar..." He ordered his personal human assistant, who scurried off, soon returning with the Inquisitor in tow. "Now, Inquisitor... I have an extremely important mission for you... One that requires the utmost discretion."
"I will ensure that it is so." Saluted Tach'Yon, who was a tall, rather typical looking male Darkii.
"Excellent... I am putting you in command of a top-secret exploration fleet, it's task is to find, document, and if possible, absorb other civilisations across the galaxy..." Explained the Regent.
"Yes my lord..." Bowed the Inquisitor. "When do I depart?"
"Immediately."

CLASSIFIED IMPERIAL DOCKING ZONE, DAXARNIA
The exploration fleet stood ready, the massive Purgatory-class Super Dreadnought Spirit of Vengeance and it's smaller Inquisitor-class escorts. Tach'Yon was already on the bridge of the Vengeance, and was preparing to leave his home. The ships were stocked with equipment from all over Daxarnia's extensive military, and well prepared for any engagement. The fleet begins to take off, the massive engines of the starships scorching the dry sand. As soon as they left Daxarnia's atmosphere they activated their Hyperdrives, and vanished in search of new life.

Council Chamber

Inside the vast large circular chamber 224 leaders from the various Council governments listened with varying degrees of attentiveness to the large white/silver machine addressing them in the centre of the room. From the corner of its eye it could see the other leaders of the Big Three nodding in agreement as though they had only heard this now rather than almost a year ago, some of the leaders from the Secondary powers were nodding their assent to what they believed to be a new plan. "In conclusion Councillors, it is clear that we must deactivate the jamming devices surrounding our territory, launch expeditions to seek out new worlds for colonization, research and exploitation. I need not remind you that even if we encounter other spacefaring nations they will likely be rational and intelligent beings rather than the murderous individuals we left behind" finished the machine stepping back and returning to its seat with the other two leaders of the Big Three.

"I agree with F.A.T.H.E.R, he is correct that we need new worlds and as such I call a vote" called Sylus Banes "Galactic Trust supports S.A.A.T in this venture".

"The Eden Initiative will lend its full support to this venture" said David Greene "I urge all of you to seriously consider this proposal".

A round of murmurs from the Secondary Powers led to what appeared to be a small argument between the leaders of Co-Operative and Strindberg Incorporated before the rather large current head of the Sokow family rose using his mechanical throne. "We six powers agree to the venture as it is in all our best interests" came his deep Russian accent. At this a sea of murmurs crashed through the room, the two most ideologically opposed council states had agreed with one another. Over the next two hours various individuals either gave their ascent or disagreed with a total vote of 83 against, 142 for.

Loriss, a genetically modified Human and the Leader of the Corporate statehood Council and Leader of the Caldari State walked across the room, pacing from one side to the other while the Ishukone and Lai Dai CEOs argued over who would lead the initial colony attempts in to the Beta Ursia Sector Block of space, a region of space thought to be without population and unclaimed by other empires.

The arrangement was to see witch side would lead the colonization effort and witch would be the one to start warping and jumping in space stations and Orbital Infrastructure.. and Loriss Could not care less. She looked at the two CEO and shouted "Silence!"
The Room fell in to silence as the two CEO's sat back down in there chairs with shocked expressions on there face.

"We Are Done Bickering. " Loriss Said. " As Of Now you are going to follow with the order list that well be sent to you in a moment. Defectors will be arrested or shot by either state police or Corporate Police as stated in Directive 1322. "

The CEOs of many of the Corporations, specifically the Most Powerful, suddenly jumped out of there chairs, and started to shout insults, objections, and some even tried to get through security to reach Loriss. " Sit down and be quiet, or be detained. " The Security chief, who had run in during the commotion, Shouted at the crowd of Angry Corporate Leaders. Most of them sat down, while a couple of them were dragged out.

Loriss pressed a button on her touch screen. A Massive Email was sent out to all of the CEOs and Military commanders in the Caldari State.
" Meeting over. " She said. " Get out."

U.F.S. Endeavor, newly charted space
June 12th, 2537

The Endeavor floated in orbit around one of the newly discovered planets in uncharted space. A Class-10 planet, with continents similar to that of Alpha Centauri, the first colonized system of the founding party of the Federation. Three orbital moons, two of similar smaller sizes in a closer parallel orbit and one larger in a farther orbit than the twin smaller moons. As the Endeavor sat in orbit, twelve probes returned from the surface and broke the gravity of the newly found planet, speeding up towards the ship and entering the shuttle bay of the older starship. As the probes entered and docked with their standard ports in the shuttle bay, they immediately began transferring data to the ship's computer system, giving readouts of the atmospheric makeup, seismic activity, tidal readouts, natural life, and everything that would be needed for recorded knowledge to declare the planet open for colonization by the member worlds of the Federation. The captain sat back in his chair, happily reading the reports as they came in on his PADD, chalking it up as another successful survey for searching for new worlds to colonize. As the final summary report came in, the computer marked the planet as approved for colonization and sent it to the main database of the fleet and to the Defensive Integrated Mainframe. From there D.I.M. would send it out to the Office of Colonization and Development to allow for the resources to be pushed to establish an outpost on the planet, allowing for the Federation to establish a center for its outer colonization efforts in the new cluster of systems it had charted. Thank God this is our job now, our old ship can't continuously be used as a warship, leave that to a Valiant-Class or even a Champlain-Class, but the old Liberty-Class shouldn't be out in battles anymore fighting the raiders in the outermost trade routes. These smaller ships out on the market for civilians aren't supposed to be armed, but illegal trading and sales of small ship arms to these so called "raiders" is pitiful. Unfortunately as of late they've taken to swarming and suicide runs against the larger ships, and frankly I've lost too many in stupid engagements with these pathetic excuses of people. They don't even call themselves rebels, they just enjoy terrorizing people and trade. Oh well, not anything my crew and I have to worry about anymore, leave that to a more powerful ship, especially with that new deflector shield system they've developed. We're due for a refit when we return to the Utopia Shipyards, and maybe we'll get those shields equipped. But for now we'll have to make due with what we have. Captain Pine thought as he walked from the bridge into his ready room to review his new orders from Fleet Command, leaving him to ponder what was happening to the replacement ship out patrolling the outer trade routes.

U.F.S. Kestrel, patrolling outer trade routes in unclaimed space

The Kestrel sat in open space, alongside the U.F.S. Caedus, a Reliant-Class starship, slowly patrolled the space on the route between Outpost 1974 and Starbase 343, the main starbase for the trade routes out into unclaimed space and outposts. The space around this route had been plagued by pirates and raiders after resources that colonizers would use to build outposts or cities, but what was most prized by them were the weapon systems for the orbital defense networks around the planets colonized and with outposts. These resources would have the initial defenses of the outer colonies, primarily consisting of MAC cannons and missile and torpedo systems designed to target ships. Of course the pirates would have a hard time mounting the larger MAC cannons onto ships, so instead would build the guns out in open space as booby traps and cause freighters and trade ships to be ripped apart. The torpedoes and missiles instead would be armed on the bigger ships of the raider fleets. These missiles would do extensive damage to ship hulls and cause severe damage to the older ships of the fleet, ones that had yet to be refitted with the new shielding systems. However, the fleet would not begin to phase the older ships out, and could lead to serious consequences, as the crew of the U.F.S. Kestrel witnessed as a large group of 14 raider ships jumped out of a nebula and opened fire on the two ships.

"Captain Garth! Enemy ships coming out of the nebula! They've opened fire!" the ensign screamed out, scrambling to start moving the ship to take evasive action.

"Get our shields up! Swing us around to shield the Caedus from the missile barrage and fire all pulse and phaser banks on the enemy ships!" Captain Garth responded, but too late for the Caedus and her crew.

At that moment, the Champlain-Class vessel had only been able to swing around to cover the Caedus' forward hull and the missile barrage spiraled past the Kestrel's point defense pulses, tearing into the Caedus' rear hull and its two nacelles, ripping the ship into pieces, leaving the Caedus to begin to drift apart from itself, with hundreds being ripped from the safety of the ship and forced into the cold vacuum of space, where they spent their last moments freezing to death almost instantaneously, left with no time to contemplate their families back home, the hopes they had of aspiring to have a leading career in the fleet, or if they should have taken that transfer offer to the Alliance-Class or the Independence-Class or any of the other upgraded ships that had the shielding system that could have saved them.

The Kestrel immediately responded in revenge against the raider ships, with their missile systems not being able to penetrate the shields of the Champlain-Class ship. Phaser banks opened fire, streaking across the empty space, ripping the hulls of the raider ships to pieces, while pulse turrets burst shots scattered across the open vacuum before them, targeting individual ships and watching as they pierced through the remaining ships that were attempting to retreat realizing they were outclassed by the fleet's modernized ship. Captain Garth sat back in his chair, sighing as he saw the wreckage before him. He turned to his first officer and began to ask about the after battle report.

"Final report of the skirmish, Commander?" Garth asked his first officer as he began to read through the final reports coming in on the PADD.

"No damage to the Kestrel, sir. The shields have proven to work effectively against projectile weapon systems. Unfortunately with the loss of the Caedus we have lost the Reliant-Class ship of our patrol and 354 crew members aboard. All hands lost, sir." the commander responded.

"Damn, they didn't have to die like that, request for a new ship to be brought in our patrol, and preferably one that is shielded. The sooner we can get these bodies back and buried the better, I hate to see such a loss for no reason whatsoever. These people had careers and futures ahead of them, and they're lost to a bunch of bandits out to cause hell. We'll put a stop to this all one day, hopefully soon." Garth said, going over the results on his PADD and reminiscing on the conversations he had with the Caedus' captain just hours before.

Unknown System
Fifth Eidruna Council Exploration group
S.A.A.T Type-7 Exploration Cruiser 'Neuroscience'
CIC

The eleven strong command staff of humans and AI moved quickly between stations securing the vessel from jump whilst scanning the system for anything noteworthy. "Commander, scans show one readily habitable world with several moons, two other with significant resource deposits but we'd need to be closer to know what and they'd need eden-formed" reported the sensor technician "picking up something near the habitable world sir, seems to be a ship of some description but I can't tell if she's armed from here sir". The commander merely nodded and brought up a hologram of the ship in question noting its curves in a way only a starship engineer could whilst conversing via neural link with the other two in the bonded trio of the ship. "I think we should make contact with them, after all these are the first aliens we've met" came a childish voice which the captain knew to be far too youthful a voice for the ships 237 year old shell-person to be using "I do think you should be at Condition 2 though just in case" he continued using a much older voice".

"I too agree, though I would suggest additional caution as well as an observational period" came the voice of the ships dedicated AI to, as usual, urge caution and exploration of new things. Making up his mind he issued his orders to the crew "bring the ship to Condition 2, transmit everything to the 'Oceanus' in case something happens" the crew began to move hurriedly to combat stations as the ships lights switched to yellow and shields were raised "contact that ship, audio only". A quick "yes sir" was his response as the hologram at the plot table changed to show he was broadcasting.

Unidentified vessel this is the S.A.A.T Exploration Cruiser 'Neuroscience' acting as part of the fifth Eidruna Council Exploration Group. Please identify yourselves in the spirit of further knowledge and universal understanding. This message will repeat every two minutes until you respond.

A week after council meeting.

Image
A Caldari Wyvern Class Super Carrier Jumped in to the star System they had designated as New Yulis.
The Massive quantum disruption the Cyonisoral Teleportation was strong enough it caused a ripple in space.
It would be felt throughout the system, if any other ships were present there. It maintained a smaller portal, for ships the size of cruisers and battlecruisers to move through. Fighters, launched from the carrier at the same time began to swarm around it.

"Scans indicate that there is one habitable planet in this Star system. Several moons surrounding it. Scans indicate odd radio wave length fluctuations and two irregular objects. " A Ensign on the bridge said to the captain. She looked at the captain on the ship.
" Send two Frigates and a Chimera class carrier, once one arrives. Oh, look, one already arrived." She said, as another Teleportation field dissipated, revealing a Chimera.
Image

Several Minutes later, the Chimera and a Escort of two frigates jumped in to orbit of the Habitable planet. Appearing close to the two irregular objects.

Imperator Peter IV pressed a button on his control panel, and spoke into a microphone. The message was broadcasted to all ships on that planet:
Hello! I do not know who you are, or where you come from, but I have reason to believe that you are friendly. Therefore I welcome you to this small planet, but ask you not to dig more than 1km below the surface, as some of my people live there, and do not wish to be disturbed.
Thank you!

He then reclined on his throne and waited for a reply to his message.

The Spirit of Vengeance came out of hyperspace, it's weapons systems active in case hostiles were encountered. A quick scan of the system indicated several planets, one of which could be colonised. However, the scan also detected several unidentified Starships, something the crew of the Vengeance found much more interesting. A message was broadcasted across the system:
Greetings, unidentified Starships. This is the Spirit of Vengeance, a Purgatory-class Super Dreadnought in service to the Daxarnian Empire. We are on a mission of exploration and discovery, finding new species and inviting them to join the Empire, and we wish the same for you. Join the Empire, and you will be under our sphere of protection, and enjoy the benefits of different species working together for the benefit of all. We await your response.

Space Station Yud
"How long until we move out?"
"We can move out and set up our new branch as soon as we find another planet to do so on," a branch operator answered.
"About those ships?"
"They are leaving the system shortly."
"Very well," Overseer Steele answered turning away. "How are our exploration vessels?"
"They have found a nation. They are located on a planet that is heavily volcanic. Only the Vogegans will be able to go to the surface without survival gear."
"Good, good, contact them immediately."
"Yes sir,"

Char System
The ship emerged from hyperspace. It immediately broadcasted the following message before arming weapons and raising its shields in case of a hostile encounter.

To: Whom it may concern
From: Virgo Enterprises.
Hello there. We come in peace. How cliche you know, but hey whatever works. We sell everything you, or anyone on your planet could want. Unless, you are a hive mind then you know, we have lots of weapons.

Traigo Muerto
"Sir," the communications officer said.
"What is it?" the Vogegan captain named Virgo answered.
"We have a report that Overseer Steele made contact with another species."
"Have we. Did he send the proper message?"
"He did."
"Good. Contact me with any notifications," he said throwing his blood-red cloak over his shoulder."
In his quarters, he looked over the operation he currently had going on.

Dominion Extramultiversal Colony No. 7875, Colonial Administrative System 001A,
Colonial Planetary Centre 01, 'Seat of the Colonial Regency', shortly, 'Regency'
The House of Regents, 395th Floor

High Colonial Regent Paulesian Fexillius' Central Office, 09:01 SOT

"The 398th Expeditionary?" said a voice, none other than Regent Fexillius, who stood before a tremendous wall of crystal clear glass which overlooked the sprawling metropolis of Deum, silently admiring the tiny, distant machines that were still completing many of the city's new, gleaming skyscrapers of glass and metal.

"Yes, Regent Fexillius, fully assembled and aligned to move" responded a disembodied voice, female in sound but wholly unnatural by ear; the tinny underthreads of artificial voice, belonging to a being of similar nature. In this instance, it was the Dominion Integrated Intelligence System, a semi-sentient entity which served to aid and streamline all governing processes which a man such as Paulesian might otherwise be overwhelmed by the daily swath of otherwise meaningless legislation which bypassed the General Administration.

"Then inform the Admiral he has my permission to depart, but do inform him this is an exploratory mission, not one of conquest.. not yet." The Regent turned away from the glass, walking back toward his glossy, black desk at the centre of the tremendous, ornately decorated space.

"Of course, my liege" responded the system, giving the impression that it was actually leaving his presence, while in fact it was still very much so there. It was always there.

--

Colonial Administrative System 001A, 500,000 kilometers from 'Regency'.

Admiral Argus Iseppien was a man of little patience, and certainly no tolerance for anything which he himself opposed - products of his own personal fame which he had amassed over the past decade, leading countless missions to bring the Dominion's reach to distant galaxies and universes. Much to his chagrin, the present operation which he was presiding over was of lesser grandeur than those of the past months; no immense, dazzling seas of warships to take entire systems by force within the hour, not one moment of bliss as an entire world was set to burn, not a single celebration in the fading light of a star, caught in the later stages of Stellar Deletion.

He was disappointed that none of this would be had, but all the same, was loyal to the Dominion, and served her unconditionally.

"Admiral, Regent Fexillius has permitted you to begin your expedition, and reminds you-" The System alerted him, but he hastily dismissed it.

"Yes, yes, I am more than aware of my duties, now be gone you vexatious construct...I have enough ears to attend to, the Regent has had mine for far too long.. surely we could do with a better than he?" He muttered off as displays manifested around him, and naturally he granted the various orders and prompts to initiated a Puncture Maneuver into the Local Translocational Subrealm.

-

The glittering yet comparatively modest fleet under Admiral Iseppien was fairly new - most vessels were constructed from local fabricators, others still made within the past five years. Though he had unlovingly named it the 'Silver Pigeon Fleet', they still represented the pinnacle or near pinnacle of the Dominion's interstellar capabilities, fitted appropriately with a mature arsenal more than able of defending from even a sizeable force, granted its limited size consistent of only thirty-two ships in total, and not one being a true vessel intended for the purpose of an offensive mission of invasion and conquest. For this reason, Iseppien was most disappointed at its capabilities.

Now, it moved gracefully forward, each ship matched perfectly to the other in velocity and momentum, toward a single destination. In moments, what this collection of ships was approaching was made clear, as a titanic wound in the fabric of this reality tore open, light and all other things repulsed away momentarily in the birth of this colossal space anomaly. Where it led was no definite location; it did not have a set point where it exited. All that was truly understood was that where it did lead was little more than an identical twin to the universe one entered it through, yet at a stage much, much earlier in creation, such that a minimal distance in this other realm was quite alarmingly tremendous in the one which one entered from.

It was in this way the Dominion ruled its vast, expansive reaches of territory, many, many light years and entire dimensions apart, and it would be in this way it would advance into this galaxy. Already, the Dominion had rooted itself in, now it was a matter of spreading out. This was the end goal, how they got there was yet to be determined.

And so Iseppien's 'Silver Pigeon Fleet' vanished into another place and time, but would soon reemerge without word or warning, not knowing exactly where they would arrive, or what they would find there.

OOC, EDIT: Upgraded Iseppien to Admiral :D

Unknown System
Fifth Eidruna Council Exploration group
S.A.A.T Type-7 Exploration Cruiser 'Neuroscience'
CIC

"Sir we have additional contacts, all different designs" announced the Sensors officer "one of them is larger than even an Ark, there also seems to be transmissions coming from the planet". The comms officer then piped up "sir, the unknown transmission is inviting us to the planet, that massive ship calls itself a super-dreadnought" the AI said with slight awe in its metallic voice "the message from the vessel identifies it as the 'Spirit of Vengeance' of the Darnaxian Empire and I find its message rather suspect, it could be a trap but fleet command is dispatching the diplomatic vessel". The commander stood impassive at the plot table watching holograms of the ships appear before him for a few moments before speaking "this is getting too dangerous, tell the fleet we need reinforcements immediately and open a channel to all parties in the system".

Unidentified vessels this is the S.A.A.T Exploration Cruiser 'Neuroscience' acting as part of the fifth Eidruna Council Exploration Group. Please identify yourselves in the spirit of further knowledge and universal understanding. We have support vessels arriving for our protection and to the 'Spirit of Vengeance' we must decline your kind offer on behalf of the Eidruna council though if any of you wish to meet with us we have a diplomatic vessel arriving shortly.

Outside

Five flashes of light revealed the arrival of four Heavy Cruisers in the light green and white of the Eden Initiative and the diplomatic vessel painted a neutral grey. The four cruisers immediately raised shields, readied their strikecraft for launch and took up positions around the 'Neuroscience forming a box with the diplomatic vessel located a little ahead of them with its hangars ready to receive diplomatic shuttles.

Location: Char Orbit

A mere moment after the ship emerged from hyperspace, large swarms of Mutalisks appeared, emerging from the planet's surface aswell as a massive orbital platform around the planet, with them followed one of the massive Leviathans.
They begun moving towards the vessel, however, they did not attack it. Yet.
The vessel recieved a strange message, seemingly originating from the planet's surface.
Hail, we are the Zerg, and I am the Overmind, a being you would define as a hive mind, like you mentioned.
You are trespassing in our territory, power down your weapons systems and surrender or face total annihilation. You have 10 minutes to respond.

On the planet's surface, massive Virophages prepared to unleash Bioplasma upon the strange vessel, in case it would try something stupid.

Location: Char, Overmind's Primary Hive Cluster

The swarm of Mutalisks swarmed around the area were the vessel was floating, before eventually returning to either the platform or the planet's surface.

"It seems they have fled the system. Just as planned. Izcha, were you able to track them?" Said the Overmind to a Izcha, a Greater Queen.

"Yes. When they drop out of hyperspace, we'll know where. The abnormalties left behind by their opening of a hyperspace window is very strong, any mildly advanced mind can track them. I will notify you when I feel them leave hyperspace." Replied Izcha.

"Excellent. They might lead us straight to a fresh world to conquer..."

Gnosis System.
Numenera.
Numeneran Aerostat 01.
Nova Monte, capital city of the Confederacy.
Senate Council Chamber.

The Floating city ship that is Nova Monte is one of many great symbols of engineering prowess for all the city states that decided to put their general grievances aside to create this mighty city. The city ship is larger enough to to match New York City and the secrets to it flying on the air defying gravity is thanks to anti-gravitational fields created by the A-Pods. The city was made to have a mega structure wall built around not only to act as protection since the material was made of incredibly strong, adoptable and self repairing polymorphic material boosted with nano machines but also block people from the seeing the moving clouds and to cause a flying of motion sickness, the only way to see the clouds is to look up and see the glass dome above. The wall and dome are made to help out with the city's many support systems which deals with many things relating to the city like temperature control due to it being fifteen thousand feet in the air, oxygen making since at that altitude most who would live in it would experience altitude sickness, HAPE, and HACE, along with many other systems like water treatment and creation, waste management, food and more. The roof on top being a transparent crystal matrix design to take as much punishment as possible from orbit before it can be shattered, it also helped boost the serves of the Akashic Network inside the floating mega structure.

Inside the building used by Senate Council most of the representatives and leaders of the various city states argued among each other. Of course said arguments are normal in the Senate after all most city states have their own goals even though they agreed to make a political form to corporate with each other and to better build stronger ties, at least in theory. The source of today's argument is now is not who claims ownership of which particular star system, or ancient relics, or even which trade agreement is acceptable or not. The source for today's meeting was about expanding the Commonality's territory. "We need to expand our reach in this galaxy. Right now the fargate project is working well but thanks to it most of our akashic bringers and far traders are almost out of the job." said a humanoid serpentine robot called Zeta referring to the newly built wormhole networks and how some people and ships were losing their jobs because of them. "We know that some people will suffer if we make those gates and besides if we expand our borders than it would make it even harder for us to keep an eye all of our systems." spoke Secretary General Ishmael, a loud gorilla wearing a military generals attire. "True we would be stretching our surveillance systems to their limits but that problem will be easily fixed once we colonize some new habitats or make new ones. As for our military we can always make more ships, mechs and drones along with new races to join the Armed Force Instrumentality." spoke a woman with dark skin and elvish like body. The next one to speak was a male cyborg. "We already have a few systems in mind to claim." he said as the room darken and a AR images of the chosen systems appeared before everyone's entoptics. "In some of these planets we already have a small number of colonists on them researching the planet and determining if the planet is suitable for all in the Commonality to live in. In other was have probes and drones doing the exploration and research in them and have found that while some may cause us some trouble we have the necessary technology to make these worlds new habitats for millions that live now and the million more that will join us." said Zeta with confidence in the bots voice.

Throughout the meeting many valid points were made on both supporting the idea of expansion and not supporting the venture. In the end the matter had to be settled by voting. "It was a close vote members of the council but it seems that while there are many who believe that the systems we have are good enough there are a greater many who which to see our Commonality expand onward in the galaxy." said one of the genetically enhanced humans on the meeting.

The news spread fast in the Commonality thanks to it's omnipresent wireless network. Throughout the Commonality ships made for space exploration, scientific research, interplanetary trading and military warship encase of would be hostiles. A new age of exploration is about to be born in the Commonality and many would be frontiers, outlaws, merchants, xeno biologists and archaeologists and lawbringers are preparing themselves for this new chapter of adventure for them all. Once the first series of exploration ships were made many rush to get their chance to be the first frontiers for the new regions of space that the Commonality will reach too. Those that had the chance to be board on the first ships said their good byes to family members, friends and lovers that couldn't join them as they got their supplies ready for their trip. Once the new ships were full they left the habitats that they were made from and in an instant a rift in hyperspace manifest into reality, the ships entered the rifts and once they did the rifts collapse on themselves, the ships no longer on this plane of existence as they travel through hyperspace to reach their new would be habitats.

Birtonian Naval Command
"The Spire"
Home Sector
2100 Hours

The massive space station orbiting Aurelia is the first and finest symbol of Birtonian military authority being projected into their home solar system that has recently been named Sirius. Measuring at about roughly 200 miles in diameter, bristling with missile ports and painted pure white, she is a glowing status symbol to anyone approaching the planet. The fledgling Birtonian Naval Defense Force has finally made the transition from a blue water navy to a true space military branch. The BNDF has made a total of three expeditions to neighboring planets.

"We have O.P. Alpha and Bravo on the two planets nearest Aurelia, which are both garden class worlds. O.P Charlie is the next closest hospitable planet, on the edges of our system milords" stated Knight-Admira Jeremiah Hampton to the video screen which connected him directly to the council of Knight-Regents planet side. Continuing his report Jeremiah looked at the logs on his desk "the 1st Expeditionary fleet is ready to be launched within the month, the Marauder class ship is currently undergoing Hyperdrive tests in the dry dock as we speak." he finished looking up. "That will be all, dismissed Admiral" said one of the Knight-Regents as the comms screen went black and returned to the admin screen.

U.F.S. Endeavor, newly charted space
June 12th, 2537

Captain Pine sat back in his chair, listening to all of the messages that were coming in and awaiting the translations from the Universal Database. The A.I. for the ship itself was excellent at translating alien languages, even on first contact luckily due to an old breakthrough with A.I. capabilities nearly a century before, courtesy of a Talardian scientist and a Denobulan linguist working at Database Prime, the center research institute for the Federation deep in the inner systems. He stared out at the monitor, showing all of the different ships within the sector, as well as the messages coming from the ground and the supposed facility there. I don't know how Probe 37 and 38 failed to detect that outpost, I'll have them decommissioned immediately. Now about these ships... some of them are of reasonable size, although the deployment of so many ships in one location is an absolute sign that perhaps this could be a first step to relations. Perhaps one of these systems nearby can be the center of an intergalactic trade port, a location to allow for cultures to intermingle and learn of each other, to trade goods and find common ground. This could very well be a step in the right direction for the galaxy and its inhabitants. Pine thought as he motioned to his ensign to open a system wide channel.

Greetings fellow space-faring explorers, I am Captain James Pine of the U.F.S. Endeavor, representing the United Federation of Systems. We are a collection of space-faring species that have together unified to venture out into the stars together, developing and working towards common goals and establishing an environment of peace for all to live in. As we were unaware that a species is already inhabiting this planet, we would instead like to welcome everyone to a system just 3 light-years from here that we have discovered to be inhabitable by our current standards. We will be happy to give the readout of the planet's atmospheric makeup, and would wish to establish a meeting between all here in order to establish relations with one another. Surely this is a great moment in all of our people's histories to have encountered one another. We look forward to your response.

Pine sat back after sending the message, looking at the current readout of the other ships that he saw, when he noticed that the planet had proceeded to arm weapons. Uh oh, we're going to have a problem with this, but perhaps this is just a cautionary measure. Don't start a war, remember what happened with the Lycians before that could be settled... all of those lives lost out of a misunderstanding in translation on their part. The captain turned to his tactical officer and nodded it at him.

"Lieutenant, raise the deflectors, do not arm weapons, I do not want to appear hostile, do you understand?" Pine said to him sternly.

"Of course sir, raising deflectors." the lieutenant replied, activating the ship's deflector system.

Let's pray I don't regret not waiting in drydock for those new shield systems, I'd hate to have needed them for what was supposed to be an exploration mission and time off from combat. Pine thought to himself, leaning forward watching the monitor and the orbiting ships around the planet.
