The War in the West

It all began with a quite innocent event; a tournament in King’s Landing. King Aeron Targaryen had ruled with a firm hand for 15 years, and the Seen Kingdoms had been at peace for even longer. The King’s Tournament was the first to be held at King’s Landing in 10 years, and knights from many of the noble families arrived to pay respects to their King, as well as meet with long estranged family members and friends.

However, events took a turn soon after the start of the tournament. King Aeron’s younger brother, Daemon Targaryen, was unseated by Ser Tymond Lannister. Enraged, Daemon attacked the knight, claiming he had cheated. Before the King’s men could intervene, his brother had thrown the knight to the ground and beheaded him, in front of the entire audience. King Aeron’s Kingsguards were quick to apprehend Daemon, and the King had his brother thrown into a dark cell.

The Lannister’s wanted more punishment for the King’s brother, but Aeron was reluctant to kill his own brother. The matter was soon removed from the King’s hands, as Daemon used his influence to escape from the dungeons and ran across the Narrow Sea. King Aeron, at the urging of the Lannisters, issued a statement banning Daemon from ever returning to Westeros.

Five years later, a great illness spread across Westeros, known as the Festering Sickness, arrived in Westeros. Once contracted, this illness caused the afflicted to erupt into sores all across the body before developing an intense cough and eventually dying from built up puss in all organs. The pain often caused the afflicted to go mad, even once they had recovered.

Sadly, King Aeron himself became ill. He survived the illness but was never the same. This was more than could be said for ___________ Stark, the Hand of the King, who contracted the illness and died soon after. With this, Jasper Tully, Lord of Riverrun was called upon to be the next Hand of the King, and he with his eldest and youngest sons arrived in the city shortly thereafter.

Jasper’s youngest son, Mykal Tully, met Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, the daughter of King Aeron and sister and betrothed to Prince Visaerys Targaryen. Mykal and Rhaenyra became lovers while in King’s Landing, and it was not long until their affair was found out. Angrily, Visaerys waited for court to assemble before shouting his accusations before the entirety of the Great Hall. King Aeron, a bit unstable after his close meeting with death, apprehended both Rhaenyra and Mykal, imprisoning the both of them. When it became apparent that Rhaenyra was pregnant, Prince Visaerys had her tied to the mast of a ship, and sent into blackwater bay alone during a storm. Visaerys and many others watched as the Princess’s ship sank, dragging her along with it.

Jasper’s eldest son, Garrel Tully was sent back to Riverrun as Jasper Tully, as Hand of the King, ordered his youngest son released, against the wishes of King Aeron, who later relieved him of service. Knowing what had happened, Mykal left his cell, and challenged Visaerys to a duel.

Visaerys agreed, but the night before, had a group of soldiers, led by his Clegane Kingsguard, attacked Mykal, and broke his leg. The next day, Mykal showed up to fight anyway, and was killed by Visaerys.

Jasper Tully left King’s Landing, only to have his caravan be attacked and killed on the Kingsroad by a group of bandits. The Tullys maintain that this was Visaerys doing as well.

Two years later, Visaerys had married __________ Tyrell, and Visaerys younger brother, Aemon, had become acting Hand of the King. It was at this time that King Aeron became sick again, and became immobile. Visaerys ruled the kingdoms through his younger brother, who was only just a young child. It wasn’t for another two years that Prince Aemon and his brother would have a falling out; Aemon tried to appoint Gerold Lannister as Hand of the King, but Visaerys would not have it. Aemon fled the city, heading west and Visaerys became acting regent. The sickly King Aeron died only a month later.

Aemon found allies in Lannisport and Riverrun, and together they raised their forces. Aemon arranged a betrothal to Jera Arryn, bringing the Arryns to his side. These armies marched towards King’s Landing as Visaerys raised the armies of the Stormlands and the Reach. At the same time, Visaerys allowed his uncle Daemon Targaryen, to return from Essos. Daemon brought with him his own host of several thousand sell swords as well as the Black Conjurer, a man rumored to be able to kill a man in battle without touching him.

At the battle of Silver Hill, the Lannister’s host fought and was defeated by the Tyrell and Baratheon forces, and Gerold Lannister retreated to Deep Den, where a long siege began. After several weeks, Gerold Lannister was forced to surrender, and was imprisoned by the Tyrells.

Meanwhile, Garrel Tully was defeated at the Battle of Blackwater Rush. Garrel was captured by Daemon and was soon after killed publically by the Black Conjurer. His army was scattered and it appeared that Visaerys had won.

However, the Arryns forces met up with the remaining Riverlords at Riverrun, and together, they marched south. At the Battle of High Heart, the Arryns and the Tullys defeated Daemon’s forces, killing him and his Black Conjurer, and scattering his soldiers. Continuing south, the Arryn and Tully host fought against the armies of the Reach, forcing a retreat at the Battle of Hornvale, and then again at the Second Battle of Deep Den. The Lannisters, having regrouped, flanked the Tyrells, destroying their host, and ending the fighting in the west.

Meanwhile in King’s Landing, now King Visaerys had pulled together his own host, and marched along the Gold Road to meet Aemon’s supporters. The battle never happened, however, as Lord ____________ Tyrell had his household guard turn against Visaerys, capturing the King and disbanding his forces along the Gold Road. With the King in chains, and no other real enemies to speak of, the united forces returned to King’s Landing, where King Aemon was crowned King. Visaerys was sentenced to death, and executed in King's Landing several weeks after the end of the war.

It has been 20 years since the end of the War in the West, 30 since the events of the Tournament in King’s Landing. The Seven Kingdoms have been enjoying a long period of peace. However, not all is as calm as it seems. The days are beginning to become colder, stirrings of conquerors rise in the East, and Rhaella Targaryen, Mistress of Whisperers and Aunt to King Aemon, has been murdered in the capital by unknown assassins.

Of course! House Tyrell has a very interesting position, having been the main supporters of Viserys...

What's the situation with custom families? For example, if I were to apply for the seat of the Redfort, would I have to be house Redfort? Or, if I were Bear Island, would I have to be House Mormount?

Reserving Lannisters, I assume they have survived though I haven't finished reading the story.

Edit: and could I reserve Hand of the King/ Master of Coin, whichever one seems better to you story-wise. Also you missed Master of Laws from the list.

I will allow you to have a custom house provided you do 3 things:

1. Provide a really good RP example and APP

2. Provide a small history of your family in addition to the App, explaining how your house came to own their holdings

3. Only replace some of the lowest families; don't expect to replace one of the larger Houses, even those as big as the Redwynes. (Of course, if during the RP, your house takes more power, that's okay ;) )

Yea they've survived! Gunna need a lot of names of Lannisters to fill in those blanks! Also, ideally a Lannister would have married a Tully during he war, if that could happen? (A Tully woman to a Lannister man?)

Yea actually a Lannister Hand of the King fits perfectly....

I think Lunas, as the Targyens, has some ideas, and as the Tullys I am going to work to keep things interesting as well.

Interesting, I presume it's alright to make-up first names, since there's a lot of blanks before the famous house names. ;)

I'll have to think about what I wanna do, a custom house or an existing one.

Great, I'll crack open the wiki and find some typical Lannister names. The marriage sounds good, I'll leave a few prominent Lannisters from the war without wives and let you choose one or two, or something like that.

Okay, I have a WIP family tree up, the app will be finished tomorrow.

The _____? spaces are for anybody to input their own marriages if they want them. As for the naming, Tymond Lannister is the knight killed by Prince Daemon. Lord Gerold is the lord who fights the Tyrells and is imprisoned and was Aemon's choice for Hand of the King before the war started. Tywald Lannister was the one who led the Lannister forces at the second battle of Deep Den. Tywald Lannister will also be Hand of the King.

APP:

House Name: Arryn.

Sigil:

Head of House: Rydan Arryn.

Relevant House Members (Please include age and appearance, as well as any relevant history, as I need to fill in those blank spaces):

Name: Rydan Arryn, Lord-Paramount of the Vale and Warden of the East.

Age: Thirty-Four.

Appearance.

History: Ever since his youth, Rydan was destined to be something more than previous Lords of the Vale, who were more about appearances than actions –Rydan was a doer, he acted where others sat and dreamed, he got his hands dirty whilst others pussy-footed around the issues. Which quickly put him in his father's bad-books as people quickly began to come to view him as his father's better and came to respect his word far more than they ever did his father's. Which was only amplified by his knowledge of the inner workings of the court and the numerous contacts he began making at a young age – from all corners of Westeros.

Name: Jeyla Arryn, Queen of the Seven Kingdoms.

Age: Nineteen.

Appearance.

History: Ever since she was a young girl, Jeyla has shown promise – very quickly grasping the ins and outs of court politics, finance and manipulation – using these things to achieve a great feats on the behalf of her brother and to a slightly lesser extent, her parents. I say lesser extent, for they never truly saw her potential – they never quite paid her enough attention to notice it, really. But she didn't hold it against them, for what they forgot to give her – she received from her elder brother, who treated her like a princess, standing up for her whenever needed – singing her praises at court and before their parents. Rydan saw in her what their parents never did, that spark that all great figures in Westerosi history had. It was because of this spark, that he jumped at the opportunity to place her upon the throne alongside King Aemon, for he knew she was the kind of woman who'd excell in the high-pressure environment that is King's Landing and that she'd bring nothing but honour to their house.

House Seat: The Eyrie.

House Forces (Ask if unsure): 25,000 Men.

Sworn Houses:
Baelish, Belmore, Borrell, Brightstone, Coldwater, Corbray, Grafton, Hardying, Hunter, Longthrope, Lynderly, Moore, Redfort, Royce, Ruthermont, Shell, Shett, Sunderland, Templeton, Tollett, Torrent, Upcliff, Waxley & Waynwood.

RP Example: Eins. Zwei.

Anything Else (Please write here if you need a husband, wife, or ward etc.): Rydan Arryn is in need of both a wife and a ward. Children optional.

Not the most detailed application I've ever made, but since I'm using an existing house, most of the back-story is already in place and I'm hoping my examples provide a bit more. Plus, I hope to create a proper family tree in a short while. Which should flesh things out a bit more. ;)

I presume this would be around Robert's Rebellion, seeing as the Cleganes are mentioned and the Blackfyres didn't launch an opportunistic invasion, but with different characters and Aemon acting in Robert's place while Viserys takes the place of Mad Aerys.

The Applicaton is pretty good, but Jela will need to be quite a bit older.... the war has been over for 20 years, so Jela would need to be at least 34, probably older now.

Also, is Rydan's father alive? Rydan is too young to have been involved in the War in the West... perhaps Rydan has a father that would have been involved in the war?

And I assume Rydan has no children, as of now?

Anything Else (Please write here if you need a husband, wife, or ward etc.): Rydan Arryn is in need of both a wife and a ward. Children optional.

Not the most detailed application I've ever made, but since I'm using an existing house, most of the back-story is already in place and I'm hoping my examples provide a bit more. Plus, I hope to create a proper family tree in a short while. Which should flesh things out a bit more. ;)

Right-o. I'll increase Rydan's age a bit, maybe to 36 so that he'd have served in the last year and his father in the rest and Jela to 35. Then everything's in order (I hope).

Perhaps Rydan's father died during the fighting?

And yeah, Rydan currently has no children, so house Arryn's in need of copulating pretty soon. ;)

Works for me!

Yea Rydan's father could have died that would work well! Maybe add the father to the app with a little deceased sign next to it and explain how it died.

Of course, you are Accepted as is, but it would be nice to have this info!
