Return of the Dragons (OOC/Sign Ups)

Postby Charmera » Fri Mar 27, 2015 6:50 am

Image

Long ago, when the world was young, the guardians of the balance of the world were the dragons, whom ensured that all the forces, elements and beings in the world were at peace and harmony. Created with energies infused by all five worlds, they were made and instructed by the Emperor of heaven himself and his celestial court. Proud and immortal, the dragons were a mighty force indeed. The few who dared threaten the harmony of the world were struck down as swiftly as they presented a threat.

Image

They were beloved by the people as benevolent guardians, worshiped by the people. Names like Zheng Long, Rashn Kha, Yurishima and Zhi Yui became legendary. Extravagant temples and palaces were built for them. Monuments raised in their honour, statues made of the most precious materials and legions upon legions of fawning followers.

However, this was not to last. What happened next is debated more than any other question before or since. Some say that the dragons were attacked by the court because they were seen as threats to the Emperors power, some say that the Dragons struck first, the gold, followers and love of the people had fueled their egos to the point where they considered themselves the true rulers of the universe and they had instead attacked heaven first. Most likely the truth is a little of both. Whatever the cause, the Dragons and the Gods of the celestial court fought a war. Though, since both sides were immortal, the war quickly stalemated. In the chaos, the title of Emperor of heaven changed heads a few times, causing more chaos. The Dragons were led by several leaders, but one in particular was Jiang Shu, the Scaleless. Jiang was a cruel and ambitious dragon, who wished not only to defeat heaven but to transcend and become completely omnipotent. So, she began work on a ritual which would not only destroy all of heaven, but magnify her power to untold heights. Though at first she had little luck on the ritual, she found a method to kill immortal beings, such as dragons and gods. As she worked, the war raged on…

Meanwhile, the other worlds were upset by the changes in balance. The Nether world found itself able to unleash it’s foul denizens on any plane, their enemies now distracted. Vengeful ghosts came from the underworld to ours for revenge on the living. Humanity was fighting for its life, cursing the names of the dragons and the gods that had abandoned them. Our only salvation was both human tenacity and allies from the spirit world, who came to our world after theirs was overrun by Oni, Raksahsha, Demons, Asura, countless undead nightmares and other horrors. Just as alliances were made between spirits and humans, similar agreements were made between the Queens of the underworld and the nether Lords, though they would often find themselves at odds due to the fact that their goals were different.

Image

While Earth and Nether and Death warred, the conflict in heaven never wavered. The stalemate continued, until on one fateful day, Jiang unleashed her horrifying powers she had been perfecting, having, in her research, courted a new foul evil. A foul sentient virus she had concocted herself, having bonded with it and become it’s master. It was called the “End” for they were the end of all things. Foul, consuming aberrations Slaughtered both dragon and god, driving both to extinction. Heaven was poisoned, forever corrupted, The last surviving denizens of heaven all fled to earth. Meanwhile, now with a secure base of power, Jiang continued preparing her ritual.

Suddenly, the fighting on earth stopped as all the parties realized what a threat the “End” was. They immediately came together in a meeting and agreed to unite against this foe. Their combined might was enough to defeat the End, who were spent after consuming both gods and dragons. Their leader is said to have fell, though many say she will return. All of them signed a contract to put aside their differences and establish an uneasy peace.

Almost all of the Nether beings migrated to earth, mostly as the Nether was fairly inhospitable and most of them preferred it on the human world now that they had had a chance to sample it, the undead that stayed on earth got stuck there, and there was the spirits and the heavenly beings to consider. With that in mind, the Human devised a solution whereby all beings on earth would be ruled by a council of the five world’s leaders.

Since, a peace of sorts has been established, though the occasional Endling raid from Heaven or Civil war has kept things interesting. However, only the very smart or those who were old enough to see the first war realized that this could not last, because that which is Immortal never truly dies.

That is where you come in. You are one of the reincarnations of Dragons, whether you be spirit, nether being, ghost, heaven born or human. All born to greatness. All of you are young, but with time you will be called upon to fight a foe long forgotten. You have all been invited to the Uai Tai Warrior monastery for training, though you may be confused as to why you have been invited.

Races
Each of the five worlds of the universe housed a multitude of races, some of which have gone extinct during the great war and the creation of the End. These races are often distinct from one another, though they share similarities depending on their home world. Dragons were once one of these many races, though their infusion with mystical energies from all five worlds caused them to undergo a metamorphosis.

Earth –
Earth is the largest and most diverse of all five worlds. Home to humanity and the adopted home of many more races. Earth has become key in the defense of all the worlds, seeing as it is the bridge between other worlds and heaven, the birthplace of the End. As a result, most species migrated there, especially those born from heaven and Earth is often very crowded and busy because of this.
Humanity is divided into four nations, though they all have to listen to the word of the council.
    Jian-Qi-
    Image
The Kingdom of Jian is one of staunch tradition and of strict adherence to rules and customs. The Kingdom mimics the old bureaucracy of heaven, using their way as a model. Alternately very ahead of their time or very behind the times, Jian takes pride in unity and service. Ruled by Empress Nu Yai and her ministers, the people of Jian are oppressed, yet safe, preferring security over freedom.

    Shinzai-
    Image
The people of Shinzai are bound by duty and honour in all walks of life. Ruled over by a warrior class of Samurai of varying clans, Shinzai is united only by an Emperor and a Shogun, the Emperor being the spiritual leader while the Shogun is the real power in Shinzai. Tensions are rising however as the Clans within Shinzai are displeased with the Shogun after refusing to accept responsibility for a humiliating set of events, and a power struggle may be imminent. The people of Shinzai may find themselves choosing sides in a civil war.

    The Tarkans-
    Image
The Tarkans are a nomadic people who live in the near inhospitable waste in the north. Once disparate tribes and clans, they have since been united into one single force under the Khan. Once deadly and feared raiders, since the great war and the agreements, the Tarkans have since limited themselves to defending their own borders. However as life grows more and more harsh for the Tarkans they have begun to raid and pillage other lands again for resources. This may threaten to lead to a war if not dealt with.

    The Monasteries of Janaii-
    Image
The Lands of Janaii were once the holy ground of the Dragons and Gods. However once they both abandoned earth, the people of the Janaii have since turned to different philosophies to guide their lives. Each monastery, once a holy place for either Dragon or God, has been converted to teaching different philosophies to the monks within, often godless ideals concerning how mortals should behave and act. Since many such philosophies are in conflict, this has led to many a conflict. As a result, the monks of the temples are often taught martial arts and ways of self defense. Many such monasteries are open to outsides and train non Janaii their ways.

The Nether Realm-
The Nether Realm is a near inhospitable wasteland which is the home to the Nether Beings, creatures almost seemingly predestined for evil. Nether Beings are often as harsh and unforgiving as their home, often fairly self serving and brutal. Though there are exceptions to this rule. Despite what many think, the wars against the spirit realm and Earth were not ideological or because they hated humans or spirits. Instead the Nether Beings mostly wanted a more habitable home. Most now do live on earth, due to the pact after the great war.
    Jorogumo-
    Image
Spider queens of the Nether realm. Though often a somewhat secretive and deceptive race, they don't eat their mates (most of the time...) the idea that they do being a vicious rumour spread by the Tengu, the natural enemy of the Jorogumo. They are an all female race, mating with male Oni, Yaoguai and Yokai before the exodus to earth. Though they seem to prefer humans as mates, and even sometimes Kitsune.

    Oni
    Image
Oni are red skinned humanoids, the shortest often taller than humans by at least a head. Slow yet tough and strong (and by no means stupid... though often single minded), Oni live for experience and pleasure. Denied many things in the nightmare that is they're home, Oni wish to experience as much pleasure as they can in our world to compensate for this lack. As a result, they are often seen as greedy, glutinous, selfish, lustful and drunkards.

    Yaoguai
    Image
Yaoguai look human, yet have a true form of a hulking bear or wolflike beast which they can unleash, though only during night. Living in nomadic tribes similar to the Tarkans, they are the only Nether Realm being who feels more comfortable in the red wastes than on earth, seeing as the nights are longer. Now many Yaoguai have been forced to move to earth.

    Vishkanyas
    Image
Mysterious snakelike humanoids who make up a good percentage of the Nether World population. Secretive and a little distrusting, Vishkanyas value family, yet do not trust those outside it very much. They live in a society determined by fate, seers ordaining children with runes to indicate their path in life as soon as they are born. Though they can be a little ruthless, they are considered the most agreeable of the Nether races, even if they once had a hatred for spirit beings and Humans, especially Devas and Nagas. They now seem to be making amends, but who knows if this is truly remorse or a trick?

The Spirit World-
The spirit world is a strange realm indeed. Perhaps meant to be a reverse of the Underworld as Heaven is of the Nether Realm. Whatever the case, the spirit realm is home to beings with incredibly long lifespans, and the world itself would seem an idyllic paradise, however the realm is not friendly to intruders, almost having a conscious of it's own as the world itself attacks those not suppose to be there. In fact, some of the denizens of the spirit world have been gone so long that it now sees them as intruders.

    Kitsune
    Image
Kitsune are a race of somewhat nomadic tenancies, prefering small packs or larger hunting tribes to organised society. Despite legend and rumour, a Kitsune's tail number is only indicative of age, not power. Though as a spirit they are extraordinarily long lived, so they often end up having many before they die. Tehy often have an enchanting beauty, leading to many legends of Kitsune seducing and tricking beings of other species.

    Tengu
    Image
Malinged and often abused, Tengu are an avian race who once had a glorious kingdom in the skies of the spirit realm, but during the war it was razed to the ground by the Jorogumo and the Oni. Afterwards when they came to the human world they found themselves at the end of much dislike, as nasty rumours that they had betrayed secrets to the nether armies were spread. It is not nearly as bad for Tengu today, but a prejudice is still present.

    Naga
    Image
Beings with the tail of a snake and the body of a human, Naga are traditionally fairly shrewd and logical, and are very brilliant when it comes to the sciences, many scientist being Nagas. For some unknown reason, the Naga despise the Vishkanyas with a passion.

    Deva
    Image
An insightful and long lived race, though they have the same lifespans as humans, their souls are immortal. When a Deva dies, he or she is reincarnated with all of his or her memories. However, no being could handle that much accumulated information, so the memories of ones past life are often locked away, only returning in occasional bursts or flashbacks. Similar to the Vishkanya, the Deva have a preordained caste system, whereby you're sorted into a guild based on your aptitudes.

Heaven-
Once the Seat of the gods and the capital of the entire universe, Heaven is now the home of corruption and ruin, End having festered in there like a virus in filth. Now it is a place of sadness, where only the few pious still go or the mournful on pilgrimages to the areas which have been cleansed. It is a wound for most, many having lost families there. The races once native to Heaven are now all on earth.
    Kami
    Image
The children of gods, Kami are similar to humans, but have birdlike wings. The stereotype is that they are somehow superior to the other races in every way, which is somewhat false. They tend to be better leaders, yet often lack humility and patience. They are, however, almost always more charismatic and attractive than those of other races.

    Bai Hu
    Image
The offspring of the original White Tiger, a strange otherworldly being who is not native to our universe and has since left it, the Bai Hu are a proud and pious race, one of the few beings who still revere the Gods and the Dragons. However they can often go to radical extremes, several dangerous cults having been formed by the Bai Hu around the End's creator herself.

    Kirin
    Image
Natives to the more icy part of Heaven, the tops of the tall mountains for example, the Kirin are a mystical yet hardy race, revering ancestor spirits rather than gods, which meant they had to mostly keep to themselves in Heaven. Though that changed during the war, where Kirin were forcibly conscripted by the gods as Dragon fodder, making them now a much more rare race.

    Djinn/Efreet
Guardians of creation and weapons of wrath, the Djinn and the Efreet were the instruments of the gods, before their role was taken by the dragons and found themselves sidelined from glory, the Efreet blaming the gods and the Djinn blaming the Dragons. The Efreet joined the Dragons during the war and the Djinn stayed loyal to the gods. Their conflict still continues, even after the war.

The Underworld-
The Land of the dead, the underworld is the realm where all living beings go when they die. Once, very, very long ago, before dragon or god, the underworld didn't exist and beings simply did not die. This caused chaos and unrest, so when the gods did arrive, they made a point of finding a place to channel dead souls so they did not simply resurrect themselves. They found the underworld, and it has since become a convienient dumping ground for all the gods problems. A fate which has left the underworld detizens embittered and jealous, seeing images of a much better life and world in their shattered memories.

    Ghosts: (Not playable charecers)
    Image
Ranging from the frosty Yuki Onna to the blood sucking Jiang Shu. Ghosts are the bitter and restless dead of beings from other world. They cannot die, merely be banished for a century or two when their spirit forms incur too much damage.

    Rakshasa
    Image
Mysterious and sinister, Rakshasa are the cousins of Bai Hu, a group of them banished for eternity in the underworld for attempt to usurp them. Bitter and vengeful, they took out their fury against the human world, planning to get to heaven through earth. Now, with the gods death, the Rakshasa are free to roam the earth... yet many seem to have great ambitions still.

    Youkai
Youkai are ghosts who have been morphed by their years as spirits. They now are beings similar to the Spirit world detizens, however now they have lost their invulnerability in favor of spirit flesh. Youkai come in many different variations and mutations, though often they look mostly humanoid save for an odd feature or two. Youkai organize into clans.

Remember. This is a list of the main races, so there are many more subspecies, minor races and animals (If I listed all of them, it would take forever). Monsters and creatures you will encounter are going to be a surprise...

Dragons
A dragons age level determines their power. Thankfully Dragons can gain "power levels" faster by defeating powerful foes.

Wyrmling:
Most dragons started out at this level. You're strong, but no where near unlocking your true potential. Your strength, speed, durability and reflexes are all sharpened, giving you the equivalent power of ten humans. You are gifted with a dragon form, in which you get draconic traits. Your dragon form so far is still humanoid, though it does increase your abilities twicefold, your philology changes little during this form, perhaps your skin looking a different hue or your eyes becoming serpentine. You also have a minor healing factor. You are also nigh Omnilingual.

Your Colour magic is impressive, yet not great by dragon standards at the moment. For example, if you used fire magic, you would have the firepower to incinerate a medium sized tree. Water Dragons would be able to move a wells worth of water. Earth Dragons could move large boulders.

Teethlings:
Teethlings are much stronger than Wyrmlings, your powers now equal to three times that of Wyrmlings (note that speed, durability and reflexes also increase by this much as we move up). In your dragon form, you now have rows of sharpened teeth and retractable claws as well as a tail. Your power bonus has increased to a thrice multiplier. Your shape-shifting abilities are starting to evolve, you are now able to camouflage yourself with your environment.

Your colour magic is much more powerful now. Fire dragons can now claim the firepower to incinerate an entire floor of a house. Water dragons can now move pools worth of water and Earth Dragons can move a boulder of thrice the size.

Young Dragons:
Your power is four times that of a Teethling. In dragon form, you now likely have scaly wings, though you can't fly that well, your flight quite clumsy at this point. Though still humanoid, your form should be bulking somewhat or slimming for the more serpentine dragons. Now you've been given a protective aura of Armour which can help protect yourself from attacks.

Your colour magic has improved greatly. Fire dragons can now incinerate entire houses and melt through iron. Water dragons can now move lakes worth of water and Earth Dragons can now move small fields of earth.

Juvenile:
Your power is five times that of a Young Dragon. In Dragon form, your form is begining to look more like that of a dragon. Your head is morphing into a more draconic version of itself. Hair is being replaced with scales and your flying has become much stronger and faster. Your shapeshifting powers allow you to mould your form a little, should you desire a human head or arm, then you can morph yourself slightly. Though you cannot look more draconic. (Dragon form multiplier is now four times your power)

Your dragons breath is now manifesting. It should be suitable to your colour magic. So far you can only produce a small cone of it,

You colour magic is now a force to be reckoned with. Fire Dragons can burn down an entire village. Water Dragons can down entire villages and Earth dragons can bury them.

Maturing Dragon:
Your power is six that of a juvenile dragon, your dragon form almost fully draconic. Perhaps a few features are slightly mortal, but you're almost a full dragon. Your flight is now almost unparalleled, your much faster in the air now, able to outpace modern jets.

Your colour magic is now incredibly advanced. Fire Dragons can boast the power to level cities. Water Dragons can collect large rivers of water and Earth Dragons can move those cities.

Adult Dragon:
You're now a fully fledged dragon, your dragon form now becoming your true form, your mortal form becoming merely a set of clothes to sheath your true power. Your powers are ten times that of a maturing dragon, Your draconic form now boasting ten times your mortal power.

Your colour magic is nearly unrivaled and almost ludicrous in it's height. Fire Dragons can set massive areas ablaze. Water dragons can bend oceans. Earth Dragons can move mountains.

Emperor: The height of power of the legendary dragons of old.
-Currently Unknown power levels-
Dragon Colours and powers
A dragons power is directly related to his or her colour. Dragons draw pure magic through their colours rather than the schools of magic the mortal races use. Therefore, they have unrestricted access to pure magic, and harness specific elements rather than having to go through schools. Almost any element of life can be represented with a dragon and often subtle variations in scale tone can mean dramatically different abilities.

Feel free to contact me about any fantasy, sci-fi, or otherwise futuristic RPs, especially those involving aliens or other non-humans, especially if it is an original universe/idea. I also enjoy Mass Effect, Fallout, Elder Scrolls, and many other things that transit to roleplays.

Feel free to ask any questions. Or even make suggestions or provide ideas. :D
Anyway, her's an example APP.

Name: Chai Yang
Race: Jian-Qi
Age: 17
Appearance (Mortal): (Image)
Personality: Yang was a friendly and fairly nice girl, if a little spoilt and naïve due to her upbringing. However, ever since she leant of her Dragon powers and the Dragon spirit within her she has been more quiet and distant. Often seen with a fearful and ashamed look in her eyes, or masking such an expression. She has not been adjusting well to her powers, fearful of using her colour magic and reluctant to do so most of the time.

Dragon Name: Jiang Shu
Dragon Color/Element: Obsidian/Death
Dragon Appearance: (Image)
Mortal Bio: Yang was a nobles daughter, a high ranking member of society. Her mother and father were both killed when she was very young, some suspect the Emperor had them secretly killed for supporting protests in the capital. She was taken care of by her uncle, Grand Minister of Ceremonies, a somewhat waning position in this age of faithlessness. The minister was loving and kind to Chai and spoiled her often. She had just finished her schooling when her dragon powers awakened and her dragons name was revealed to her.

Her uncle did not take the news well. For some days he had her locked in her room while he figured out what to do. When the Monks came he was more than happy to let them take her,

Dragon Bio: Jiang Shu, scourge of the worlds and bringer of the end. She was a dragon to be feared even before her betrayal of all life, though no one knew she would go as far as she did. Her name is still a byword for horror and suffering across the worlds. Her death came at the hand of the mortal champion, Kimonten, wielding the Godsword, after she had poisoned her immortality by becoming one with the end. Though some theorize her demonization might not be entirely warranted...

Either is fine. In fact almost any dragon could work.

PS, reserving a bronze earth dragon.

Either is fine. In fact almost any dragon could work.

Do mixed breeds exist?

Of Dragons or races?
For the latter, not really.
For the former, I'm not sure what you mean.

They'd be pretty rare. Most of the time a child would be of one species or the other.
I'm not going to let them be playable mostly for simplicity's sake. (I mean, you're all technically dragons anyway.)

Does this count, or does it go to whomever makes the app first?

And do we have to be human?

It counts. I don't see a reason why it shouldn't. Though if you don't make an APP within a day or two your reservation will become moot.

You don't have to be human, no. Just don't choose ghosts or cross breeds.

Sure. I'd imagine it'd be a little narrow and specific (Unless you also focus on the mind effecting qualities of mercury or something like that), but it should work.
