"Without war, there would be no military, and without military, there would be no Greater Nevadian Empire."
Recent News:
Former dictator Robert Huang has taken South Province, Far West Province, and parts of five other southern provinces. Huang has declared a "People's Republic of Socialist Nevadia". A full on civil war is expected to happen within the next few days.

my opinion on canada as a nova scotian:

quebec is the only part of canada with an actual culture (that's why the rest of the country hates them). ontario is basically a shittier version of michigan. the prairies are the liberal version of north dakota. 'british' columbia is washington state if it was settled entirely by chinese people. the northern provinces are basically an even more uninhabitable version of northern alaska. nova scotia, pei and new brunswick are basically boston meets tenessee and to this day i'm not sure if there are actual people living in newfoundland.

"Nowadays everybody's got to go to shrinks and counselors, and go on Sally Jesse Raphael and talk about their problems. Whatever happened to Gary Cooper, the strong, silent type? That was an American. He wasn't in touch with his feelings. He just did what he had to do. See, what they didn't know is once they got Gary Cooper in touch with his feelings, that they wouldn't be able to shut him up. And then it's dysfunction this and dysfunction that and dysfunction vaffanculo!"

So you don't know what culture is. Got it.

Anyway Manitoban here. Well, born in Ontario but lived the majority of my life in Manitoba.

While I love Canada, it isn't as great as people make it out to be sometimes but it's still one of the best places.

BC is where I want to move to when I'm older, there's pretty much nothing to do in Alberta

And it gets worse as you get older :(

There's Calgary which I heard is a pretty cool city. And when all else fails, head to the new frontier town of Fort McMurray!

We've got the same issues in Merka, with the kiddies thinking that 1) "Merka liek has no culture that's why I'm gonna move to like England or Japan or something when I grow up" and 2) failing to realize that distinct regions of the U.S. have their own culture.

Like, what does PEI have in common with Yellowknife beyond language?

Real talk though: I've actually tossed around the idea of emigrating for the past five or six years, ever since my father nixed the idea of accepting a transfer to Waterloo at the eleventh hour. Anyone familiar with the process and/or willing to share perspectives on general attitudes and opportunities toward/for immigrants in their province/territory?

Finally, A discussion thread about my country! Anything you wish to add though mr. op?

Anyway, I like my country, and enjoy being Ontarian. Unfortunately, It isn't as great as outsiders see it. I mean it's not horrid, it's just not the land of milk and honey that people make it out to be with our universal healthcare, and being "a constitutional powerhouse" apparently, we still have problems. Especially we some people in charge *cough cough*.

I also like to humor how Alberta is our lil texas, due to it's oil. :p

In Manitoba you'd be all right. You''ll get the occasional "lol Yank" and some generalizations but on the whole you'd be fine. If you're looking to come here for uni though, personally I'd say head for Ontario, BC, Quebec or NS due to Dalhousie.

I am from Vancouver, BC. I think on balance there are more cons than pros.

Pros:
lots of beautiful trees, a great place to run around while being plugged in to EDM music
low tuition costs

Cons:
High taxes
A TON of rain, TON of rain (it gets to my mood)
Very poorly lit place at night, it's a very dark place
Houses are ridiculously over-priced (easily over 1 million), you might as well be a tenant for the rest of your life, food is also expensive
Very difficult to find a job unless you know someone, the place is too small

_______________________________

In terms of Canada generally, the country's policies are too soft, diplomatic, and weak-willed. There is a serious lack of nationalism and I blame this largely on multiculturalism and a policy of deference towards vocal minorities such as Aboriginal tribes and Quebec regionalists. I would not be surprised if this country breaks apart in a few decades.

If it were up to me, Canada should have stayed in the British Empire.

The only unifying force is Ice Hockey... unfortunately, it is a very boring sport to watch.

The only thing that makes me proud to be a Canadian is the fact that Overwerk is from Canada (he actually writes inspired music). Other than that, there is a serious distinct lack of notable artists from Canada compared to places like the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Eurozone (I'm not counting Justin Bieber, I consider his achievements largely commercial).

I am also glad that Canada does not adopt the attitude of the United States towards gun control (''if we ban guns criminals will have the guns so let's keep them around and tolerate school shootings'') and that it uses the Parliamentary model (the presidential model makes no sense). I am also glad that Canada uses the metric system.

I am not happy about Canadian restaurants not being expected to serve meal-sizes that are equivalent to their counterparts in the USA. They should adopt American portions.

I am also disappointed in Canada's lack of culinary achievements. Poutine is hardly something to be proud of in contrast to the culinary masterpieces from other countries (escargot from France, MacDonalds from the USA, ramen from Japan).

I think some actually do. But then most people probably just look at them, then to the side, then away, then walk on.
