1939. The world appears to be ready to fall into a conflict, nearly as large as the one that just occurred only twenty years before. In 1914 the Great War started when a member of the Slavic Nationalist group the Black Hands named Gavrilo Princip assassinated Austro-Hungarian heir Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. The war lasted until 1918, when an armistice was signed. At a meeting in the Palace of Versailles, the powers decided how to conclude the war that had ravaged the Earth. Alsace-Lorraine went to the French, German overseas colonies became independent, the German monarchy was taken from power, and their military was limited. In the East, Lenin's Communists where defeated with the help of foreign powers in 1920, however, with no Monarchy, a Russian Republic was created, and many nations found themselves independent. Germany was not the only Central powers member to be befell with disaster, as Austria and the Ottomans soon imploded from internal rebellions.

The 1920s where a decade of many Revolutions and change. Australia, inspired by the German NSDAP, revolted against their British masters in 1927, and the Fascist Free State of Australia was founded. The Palestinians revolted against the British and defeated their European overlords, similar to the Australians. The Republic of Palestine where soon created. Due to the Turks not receiving Soviet support, the Greeks won the Greco-Turkish war, and much of Anatolia became Greek land. In late 1929, the stock market crashed in the United States, signaling a worldwide depression. Germany was hit the hardest, and in 1933 a man named Adolf Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. By 1938 Germany had control of nearly all of Central Europe, however in 1938, when Germany claimed the Sudetenland was theirs', the British and French forced Hitler and Germany to stand down, however Hitler had more sinister plans: he sent his S.S. to Slovakia, where they began a civil war and by the end of the year the Czech Republic and the Slovak Socialist Republic where split.

The world now appears to be gearing for a second Great War, one larger than the first. German forces stand on the border near Poland, and Iberia burns in an intense Civil War between Nationalists and Republicans, both of whom are receiving foreign support, from Germany and the Russian Republic respectively. With the "Triple Axis" being formed from the Third Reich, the Free Republic of Australia, and the Kingdom of Italy in response to the Russo-French-British alliance. The United States seeks neutrality, despite failing to remain neutral in the first Great War. In these dark times, can the world remain in peace?

Military information

Army: Up to this point, France held claim to the best win to loss ratio in terms of battles of any European nation. The joke that the French armed forces were full of cowards was unheard of. France had also just been on the winning the side of the largest war in human history, and was as well equipped as any other nation on Earth. Still, the fear of another Great War with Germany existed among the leadership of the French army, and other branches as well. Everyone knew that if this war were to occur, it would start in France. Currently, the French Republic Army consists of about 900,000 men, with 5 million others having some kind of military training. The French army also included 4,200 armored fighting vehicles and 11,000 guns.
Navy:
Every naval fleet consists of a variety of ships of different sizes, and no fleet has enough resources to make every vessel supreme in its class. Nonetheless, different countries strive to excel in particular classes. Between the world wars, the French fleet was remarkable in its building of small numbers of ships that were "over the top" with relation to their equivalents of other powers (For example, the Fantastique class of destroyers is still the fastest class of destroyers in existence). Currently the navy consists of:

Military information

Army: The Swedish army averages around 150,000, many of them conscripts. The army fell into a state of disrepair after WW1. Military funding was cut, and by the 1930s it was in bad condition. By 1936, Sweden viewed Germany as a potential threat and began to pass reforms and laws to improve the military. Funding was increased, and the military was expanded from around 120,000 troops to 150,000 troops. Currently it is a mediocre force, with a small tank force, small amounts of artillery, and inexperienced conscripts. However, given foreign assistance and aid, as well as more time, the Swedish army can become a very formidable force.
Navy: The Swedish Navy has not been allowed to decay as much as the army; given Sweden's position in the Scandinavia and reliance on maritime trade, the Swedish navy is a decent sized force that operates mainly in the Baltic Sea. With no direct threat to Sweden, the navy's funding has also been cut and some ships decommissioned. Reforms passed in the '30s help improve the Navy, and the sailors are trained well. It is one of the better navies operating in the Baltic Sea, with only a select couple of nations being able to compete with it. Even so, it has its flaws and weaknesses.
Air force: The Air Force was created in 1926 when aerial units and aircraft from both the army and navy were merged. Since then, it has mostly consisted of second rate aircraft models, and obsolete aircraft. In the 1930s, with the rising threat of Germany, the air force was expanded from 4 squadrons to 7, and it was completely reorganized. It was expanded again in 1938 and Sweden bought modern aircraft from other nations. Currently it has a lot of obsolete and outdated aircraft but it has still seen many improvements since the early to mid 1930s.
Intelligence agencies:
In response to rising tensions in Europe, Sweden created its first, specialized Intelligence agency in 1937, called the Militära underrättelse- och säkerhetstjänsten or the Military Intelligence and Security Service. It currently only consists of 1 central intelligence department, a cryptology department, and intelligence signals department.
