What Subculture Do You Associate With?

Postby Vashtanaraada » Sun Feb 22, 2015 3:18 pm

Hey people, just a short and swift thread that I've always wanted to post.
So, post what subculture you think you belong to, and if you know, what faction that you may be within that?

For example, I am a member of the Heavy Metal Subculture, primarily classifying myself as either a thrasher or traditional heavy metaller. (Think Motorhead, Iron Maiden etc.)

Also of note, be careful not to get subcultures and broad social groups confused.

FOR - Democratic Socialism/ Classical Marxism/ Trade-Unionism/ Pro-Choice/ Anti-Nationalism/ Revolution/ Direct Democracy/ Internationalism/ Soft Drugs/ L.G.B.T Rights/ Ecologism/ Gender Equality.

AGAINST - Fascism/ Capitalism/ Conservatism/ Militarism/ Racism/ Homophobia/ Oligarchy/ Monarchy/ Hierarchy/ Austerity/ Dictatorships/ Leninism/ Privatisation/ Stereotypes/ Nuclear Weaponry.

Bronydom (if that counts) and greaser (rockabilly).

I certainly keep the two apart. My love for doo wop culture and muscle cars and imitating Fonzie would probably place me under that category but I have yet to see a James Dean movie.

Your rights give you your life, that life gives you the right to stand for what is right for the world and one of those rights in the world is standing strong for those you love and what you love as a whole.

Gamer, Metalhead (sort of), Military Brat, Aspie, and R.O.C. and while I wouldn't say I'm otaku or nerd I lean in those directions

Little bit punk, little bit nerdy, little bit trve kvlt. I'm not sure if I qualify as an otaku, but I certainly have strong interests in that direction.

I'm not sure if I'm in one, since I tend to be in a few but not deep into them, to the point that you'd might as well just categorize me as "twisted."

Slacker mostly, which at this point and age is sad in many ways. I didn't even manage a conversion to 'aging hipster', just plain ol' 90s era Slacker.
"...I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.

I'm in the Hipster Culture, I guess. There was a funny story about How I sort of became a hipster, and at first, I was kinda pissed, but now I just kind of deal with it... I guess...Oh yeah, I am a nerd to! Yay

Bronydom, Aspie World, maybe Geek/Nerd Planet...

And if you count the fact that I am part of a fandom that has most likely died out years ago, the Smurfdom.

Whovian, mostly. Brony around circles that accept that. I don't really fit in with one group because my sense of style and manner are more alike to the 1940s than they are the twenty-teens. :P

I am a punk, Which makes me a poser. I am a homestuck, which makes me trash. I have been a casual gamer for the last fifteen years which makes me one of the L33test n00bs. And I have a strange if not outright obsessive fascination with a variety of subjects so that makes me a nerd. Also if drug culture is a subculture they have done more to make me feel like my belonging is unconditional than any other culture, seriously drug users can be some of the nicest people.

Ironic Alabama fan smugness. ;)

EDIT: Related, college football, at least as far as a subculture I'm compelled to talk about enough about on NS.

I don't think of myself as belonging to a subculture, though I do tend to hang out with table-top roleplayers and board gamers. Perhaps that counts.

Autie subculture.

If you don't include "Autie" as a normal culture.
~~~Autistiche Uber Alles!~~~
Alternate nation: Autrael
Nationstates' friendly neighborhood ARM member.
Autie teen, male, heterosexual, atheist, Hitchhiker, and Borderline-Brony.
Pro: Neurodiversity, LGBT rights, etc.
Anti: Homophobia, Curebies, Discrimination and bigotry in general, MMS, and anti-vaxxers
I am a capitalist, but not too radical. I do not get in intense political debates, mostly i just like the sound of being the real-life Montgomery Burns. Release the hounds, Smithers. Did I mention that I have my own micronation?
