The year was 1860, and Abraham Lincoln was elected president after attaining a majority in the Electoral Collage. Vehement uproar against a man who stood against everything the south stood for resulted in a secession, in which the southern states seceded. Lincoln, so furious at the secession of the southern states begins a reign of terror, outlawing elections, passing laws curbing speech and instilling a police state. As a result, many northerners, mainly comprised of Democrats and Constitutional Unionists violently revolt in the north, causing upheaval and protest cripple the northern government and its ability to wage a large-scale war against the south.

The newly formed Confederate States of America however, had its problems. Despite the north being crippled from an internal revolution, the south was being crippled by its own. John Brown, alongside Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman instigate a larger slave revolt in Harper's Ferry, and entice black slaves, freedmen and anti-slavery whites to revolt against the Confederate and Union government. This would result in a four-way battle, in which four nations battle each other out in a grand conflict, each with their differing interests.

Four years later, and the situation looks even more bleak in the American continent. Many American Indians have revolted and formed their own nation state, the Coalition of Tribes, and while some remain loyal to the US or CS, most have joined the Coalition for their own nation-state. California has also seceded, preferring their own state than to a dysfunctional one, and quickly begun warfare with the Coalition, while the slave revolt resulted in the Freedmen's Nation, and the Democratic revolt has created the Democratic States of America, situated in the northwest.

Factions

United States of America
Image

Once a nation spanning from sea to shining sea, it is now merely one confined to the northeast, with the rest of its territories in rebellion. Although it has the most industrious sect of the nation, many things instrumental to fight war have been destroyed by prolonged revolts and internal upheaval. However, it is still where most of the factories are, and the Union still possesses the continents largest army, at 600,000 men, which is mainly concentrated fighting the DSA, CSA and Freedmen's Nation.

Confederate States of America
Image

Formed from the seceded southern states, the CSA was a response to the election of Abraham Lincoln, who defied the views of the south. Being a mainly agrarian nation, and comprising of 11 of the 15 slave states, the CSA was a hotbed of activity. Not only did it have the Union invading it, but it also has the DSA occupying land that was once under slave rebellion, and the Freedmen's Nation invading its territories to free its slaves. The CSA has been trying to industrialize, but such efforts have been hindered and only successful in certain cases. It possesses the continent's second largest army at 450,000 men.

Democratic States of America
Image

Formed as a response to the big government instilled by Abraham Lincoln, the Democratic States of America is another seceded nation which organizes rebellion in the rest of the United States so one day Abraham Lincoln can be unseated and pre-war conditions restored. The most controversial action undertaken by the DSA was when it restored order in a part of the CSA under slave rebellion, which it legally recognized. The CSA responded by taking a part of the DSA that was unstable and restored order there. However, the two nations have yet to fight against each other for they are both fighting the Freedman's Nation. The DSA has the third largest military, with 390,000 men.

Coalition of Tribes
Image

Following the turmoil on the eastern part of the American Continent, many Native Americans realized that there is little to obstruct them from forming their own nation-state. As a result, the Coalition of Tribes were formed, a collective of all of the tribes in the Indian Territory, and those in the generally unused territories in the west. They quickly gained traction amongst natives, and begun their attacks on the white people who they resent. They have sent the DSA offensive in Kansas back, and have taken parts of the Indian Territory, and Texas. However, not all natives agree with the Coalition of Tribes, and some are still fighting for the CSA, USA, DSA, or California Republic.

California Republic
Image

When the south seceded, and Lincoln begun his tyrannical usurp of power, not only did the midwest secede, but also California and Oregon. California almost had a secession vote in 1860, but by 1862, it was quite evident that they were neglected by Lincoln, but also oppressed. Seeking the opportunity, the California Republic secedes, and forms their own nation-state. However, they have recently come into an armed conflict with the Coalition of Tribes, and has resulted in a portion of Oregon being taken by them.

Freedman's Nation
John Brown had previously planned a slave rebellion, but when only 19 men agreed, and his best aides of Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass didn't joined, he called it off. He waited until 1860, when the Union was in turmoil, and this time, he struck with Tubman and Douglass. They aided Brown and ensured that he didn't make too many mistakes, and as a result, the Harper's Ferry Raid was successful. Although the militia in Harper's Ferry did route them out in the beginning, and the CSA did take the machinery, the abolitionists were not caught, and begun a reign of terror in western Virginia, and also in nearby states, before assuming authority over the land and freeing the slaves. Their goal is to simply free the slaves, by all means necessary

Utilizing a point system players may generate a corps of quality, quantity, or a mixture of the two. For example, players are given 18 points to spend. Infantry brigades (3,000 men in 3 regiments) cost 1 point, Artillery/ Horse Artillery battalions (30 guns, 400 men) cost 3 points, and Cavalry brigades (3,000 horsemen) 3. Any unit may be declared as "Elite" for an additional point. Cavalry costs so much because cavalry became organized as independent organizations and players shouldn't fall into the trap of using cavalry too much in combat. Cavalry had great strategic and operational value for scouting and harassing, but not as much tactical value. Engineering Companies may be purchased for 1 point. They can assist greatly in border & river crossings, fortifications, etc. Maximum 10 Infantry units per corps. Remember, larger forces are harder to supply.

Theaters of War
The East (East Coast States)
The Center (Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio, etc. line of states)
The West (California to Mississippi)

General Civil War Army organization

Regiment - 1,000 Men of a single unit type (Infantry or Cavalry). The Basic formation used here. Regiments are the ones that were named "7th Kentucky Infantry Regiment" etc.

Brigade - 3,000 men of a single unit type (Infantry or Cavalry). Brigade's were not named by numerals or states. In the Union, brigades received numbers based on their place in the division "1st Brigade, 2nd Brigade, etc." There would be numerous "1st Brigades" in the Union because every division had its own numbering independent of the others. In the Confederacy, Brigades were named after their commanders "Kershaw's Brigade".

Division - Organization of multiple brigades, may also begin to use combined arms (i.e. Infantry and Artillery and/or Cavalry). In the Union divisions were named based on the places in the Corps on numbering "1st Division". In the Confederacy, Divisions were named after their commanders.

So to unite these -

Union
I. Corps
  • 1st Division
    • 1st Brigade
      • 3rd Connecticut Infantry
      • 5th New York Infantry
      • 9th Pennsylvania
    • 2nd Brigade
    • 3rd Brigade
  • 2nd Division
    • 1st Brigade
    • 2nd Brigade

Confederacy
Jame's Corps
  • McLaw's Division
    • Jame's Brigade
      • 3rd Mississippi Infantry
      • 5th South Carolina Infantry
      • 9th Georgia

The Battle

Battles will take place generally between two corps from each side, however given maneuvering and numbers, it could be any combination. These Corps v Corps battles will be considered "Sections" of the battle. Each "Section" will be determined by a Battle Mod. Battle Mods may be players from either side who's Corps is not part of the army engaged in the fighting. Ideally, Battle Mods will be proportional .To keep the fog of war, I believe that players should TG the first half of their battle strategies post first to a Battle Mod with how they set up their forces. The Battle Mod then tells each player what information they know about the other. How much they are told depends on terrain, IC considerations, but especially Cavalry. Then each player sends their intended strategies and contingency plans for the section of the battle. Once posts and strategies are received, players may post their setup post. Then the Battle Mod using RNGs, considerations for player's strategies, and quality of player's rp post, determines an outcome, tells it to the players who may then post their rp about how the outcome happened from their point of view. The Battle Mod then updates the situation (Considered one day of fighting IC) and players may engage again if feasible to commence another day of fighting. Battle Mods must then switch what section of a battle they are moderating.

Name:Jefferson F. Davis
Age:56
Birth State:Kentucky
Description:A tall man with his iconic beard, a proud posture and his 19th century-style hair
Allegiance:Confederate States of America
History:
Jefferson Davis was born in Kentucky only 70 miles from the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln. He was born into a large family who was involved in the southern plantation aristocracy. Growing up in the deep south and interacting with other members of the plantation aristocracy, Davis became very supportive of the class and knew his place. Davis later attended West Point and became a Lieutenant in the US Army.

Under the command of future President Zachary Taylor, he met his daughter, Sarah Taylor, who he fell in love with, to the objection of his commander. However, Davis was able to later convince his officer to marry his daughter, and he soon did. Davis would later continue on his field experiences in the frontier, and eventually served as a Colonel in the Mexican-American War. He armed his men with the M1841 rifled musket, which would be named after his regiment, which hailed from Mississippi. Davis' men would fight bravely in the war, and Davis was then offered the position of Brigadier General from the President, which he declined, in accordance to his views on the Constitution, before Mississippi offered him the same position, in which he accepted.

Now a General, Davis would fight in numerous field engagements against Native Americans, including wars against the Apaches and Seminoles, while simultaneously being an appointed member of the US Senate. When the secession came, Davis sided with his state, and due to his experience, was given command of the I Corps of the Army of Northern Virginia.

His Corps saw some of the deadliest battles, not only fighting against the Union, but rebellious slaves. Davis would be a pragmatic general, trying to recruit slaves, who were promised freedom if they would fight to deter the numbers of the Freedman's Nation, with little success, and would be instrumental in invading Maryland. Now in eastern Maryland, his Corps is planning to launch an offensive to route the Federal forces from Maryland

If the USA fell apart like that, chances are the British Empire would immediately seize the opportunity to launch an invasion and retake their former colonies. Britain and America maintained incredibly hostile relations for a long time after the Revolutionary War, and if London saw that America was weak and divided, there's no reason why they wouldn't push into the remnants of the Union and conquer back their land. A little explanation as to why the countries comprising America are still independent would be very nice.

Aside from that little issue, this RP looks like it could be quite interesting. Since you say you need a Co-OP, I'd be willing to take the position and help out a bit.

For the sake of the RP, I would keep the British out of this. The British decide to focus their efforts on Africa and India instead of the American Continent, which means that the American Continent has numerous warring factions fighting for different goals.

Also, they fought France 2 times and won.
They would probably ally with the tribes, since Mexico banned slavery very ,very early on.

Also, they fought France 2 times and won.
They would probably ally with the tribes, since Mexico banned slavery very ,very early on.

Given your experience in the Gods and Generals RP, would you be open to being a Battle Mod?

No way.

Yes, but you cannot have military units in the same theatre that you are battle modding.

I like this idea. It's pretty cool. I do have one question though, what is the political platform/stance of the DSA?

They are mainly Northern Democrats and Copperheads. They hate Lincoln, and want him gone as soon as possible. They are also supporters of a small and decentralized government, and in modern terms, they are best described as Classical Liberals.

Dixiecrats, eh? That's cool. Are you taking suggestions for the other apps?

Applications are out. I would like to give a huge thanks for Christstan, the OP of the Gods and Generals RP for making the application and the system, without him, we wouldn't have such a comprehensive system for this RP.

Christstan, if you are reading this, hope you don't mind me using the system you devised ;)

Just a curious question couldn't we do this RP with just the USA and csa as playable nations, and cut out the other two

Please make the history longer, and be far more specific with your ORBAT.

It would get quite boring if players can play as civilians or military units from two nations, and it stops the chances for alliances and power play.

Sorry, I need a lot more specificity on the aforementioned aspects. Read the guidelines, maybe it'll help.
