When does religion become radical?

Postby Urran » Fri Jan 30, 2015 5:00 pm

Just a question I was thinking of in my spare time. When does religion cross the line to radicalism? When you're willing to kill for it? When you're willing to die for it?

Rules:

1. No debates as to whether the existence of a higher power is real or not.

2. No Flamming, trolling, spamming, ect.
A lie doesn't become truth, wrong doesn't become right, and evil doesn't become good just because it's accepted by a majority.

When the most extreme devout of the religion begin to take the teachings from their sacred writing too literally.
'Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.' (II Timothy 4:1-5 NKJV)

Religion becomes radical the moment it starts arming it's members.
The current leader of our nation is Sister President Sunshine Woodstock Commandant Deathmarch. She's far out, man! All Hail our Glorious Leader!

Why is the former Free Lands of Sweet Kush a dictatorship now? Read about the Black Friday Revolt, click here.

It becomes radical when you can see or hear someone yell "allah akbar" really loud.

Well, yes, but I mean the extremists who take their faith very personal; extreme devout.

If you actually read the Bible and really accepted it, you'd be advocating the death of a large chunk of NSG. Irreligious, LGBT, those who work on the sabbath or eat shellfish, mix fabrics...

People who actually follow their religion are radicals. The amount one blows off their religious teaching is how much they actually fit in modern society. Barring religious pacifists, of course.

As far as I'm aware the New Testament said not to judge or do harm to another human being right?

When the holy text tells you to subdue and destroy other religions because they're infidels who must be destroyed, and when the followers of said religion in question attemp to impose it on everyone else in a violent view.

A similar religion to the one described exists, but rather focusing on extermanition of other religions and their followers, they focus on how to manipulate the followers of other religions into servants or something.

When people are able to kill any such living being for it. And I have no intention to place them in a place of acceptance or tolerance, or at that, even recognition as someone who has "morals" when they're willing to kill a animal or a person when they proclaim their doing it for god, yet don't have the realization that their religion has no such obligation to catch them when they do something bad or kill, nor does god have such obligation to pick them up, take the blame, or do anything for the person who killed or did something bad.

Nitpick! That would mean every religion has become radical, at some point in history, and now. I mean, at many points in history, some people have been able to kill anyone or anything for being it in the name of religion.

The moment that one stops saying "I live this way", and begins saying "Others must live this way, or pay a penalty".

And I wouldn't blame them. They lived in a time where acceptance, a sprinkle of peace, or when such morals were defined by their own views sometimes, rather than a book written by mortals and misinterpreted and corrupted by others, such as leaders of the churches, was almost non-existent. We were pretty bland and horrible back then.
