Freedom Act of 2015

Postby Nordengrund » Thu Jan 29, 2015 3:50 pm

For eighty years, Nordengrund had developed a reputation as a one party theocracy that persecuted homosexuals. This was the Second Republic, a group aiming for sexual purity and morality. Eventually, the Second Republic collapsed and after a year of anarchy, the Third Republic was established. Unlike its predecessor, the Third Republic is less religious and seeks to increase civil liberties.

The Third Republic is best described as a libertarian government, or is at least trying to be. Today, a new bill was proposed by the legislature;

FREEDOM ACT OF 2015

The legislative branch hereby condones this bill and seeks the approval from the judicial and executive branches. Under this bill, the following will be enacted:

-Same- sex marriage will be legalized along with child adoption by homosexual couples. However, churches and other religious institutions can refuse to marry homosexual couples in order to protect the right to practice religious freedom.

- Abortion will be legal until the end of the first trimester. This was approved as a compromise between the pro-life and pro-choice. However, the national government shall not fund abortions.

-Polygamous marriage is also legalized.

- The new definition of marriage under the Republic is "A union of two or more consenting human adults." This is to prevent crazy things like a man wanting to marry his horse.

The Third Republic of Nordengrund seeks the input of the international community on this new bill.

The Holy Roman Empire approves of this act, however, many in His Majesty's government wish for more reform, but we this as a step in the right direction.

The people of Threlizdun support the Freedom Act, though believe the right to choose must be maintained throughout the entirety of the pregnancy and that abortions should be funded by the government.

The Japanese Confederation supports this bill. However, we do not support the polygamous marriages, and suggest that it be changed.

We Ergotarians would like the Nordengrundian Freedom Act of 2015 to be expanded significantly. Right now it is nothing more than an abortion and marriage bill in content. A lot of revision needs to be conducted.
I am anarchist and libertarian, which means I oppose states, hierarchies and discrimination and see liberty as the highest primary objective to achieve in a society.
You can define anarchism and libertarianism differently than I do, but it doesn't matter to me. Neither term carries implications to a preferable economic ideology.
Anarchism without adjectives would be ideal, but seeing how different movements see themselves as the right ones, an insurrectionary approach is more realistic.

Kingdom of Dhomland doesn' t support this act because polygamy will destroy pillars of your society. Everybody can fall in love with more people and more and more people will choose polygamous relationship. After several decades, the majority of people won't live in families but in some communities and it will be the end of family - one of the most important pillars of society.

To: Whoever it may concern, Nordengrund
From: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Empire of Adab

Greetings,

It has come to the attention of His Imperial Majesty the Emperor that your nation is asking for the input of the international community on the proposed Freedom Act of 2015. It is with some apprehension, but ultimately also with pleasure, that we declare our SUPPORT for this bill. While His Imperial Majesty does not condone same-sex marriage, which he sees as a crime against nature, he understands that it is not within his powers to actively make demands to the government of Nordengrund and hope that this issue will be resolved peacefully. Otherwise, he agrees with the bill.

Signed,
His Imperial Majesty Tizqar III, Emperor
His Highness Inimabakesh al-Tikriti, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Chancellor David McGarry, during his morning press conference, announced his support for the Freedom Act and pledged to work on "a similar action" during his first term in office. "This is a great direction to take," the newly minted Chancellor said in his brief comment.

The UNE does not approve of the last 3 bullets. Polygamy is a sexist institution, and should not be legalized. Such a thing is archaic, and does not belong in civilized nations. Of course, making exception for species that require more then two individuals to procreate.

As for abortion, to kill an unborn child is barbaric. We have seen this for billions of years, and have closed this debate once and for all, for equally as long through the advent of artificial womb technology, allowing our nation to preserve the most important right of all, life, as well as the more insignificant right, autonomy.

We would gladly provide artificial womb technology to your civilization, if your bill is reformed to completely outlaw the termination of any sentient life form starting from its inception.
