Also, you are aware that you can put polls in the thread, right?

Orles wrote:Everyone involved was responsible to certain extent, due to the European application of balance of power. Little wars had always been fought by the European nations over various trivialities. The reason World War One was so devastating was that the powers involved were all attempting to fight an "honorable" war with weapons far more devastating than anything they had ever had access to before, such as machine guns. This is what led to the absurdly high casualties and long stalemate that defined World War One. Those most responsible for the start of the war were, in my opinion, Germany. A relatively young nation, they were insecure and wanted to prove to the established European powers that they were not weak. They did this with shows of military aggression, which only made the other countries militarize out of nervousness. Germany was acting like a toddler with a machine gun, in their eyes: It had power, but not the sense to control it. The Germans also caused the war to be prolonged by their absolute foolishness in requesting an alliance with Great Britain while fielding their own powerful navy. Britain was a naval power, and would never have agreed to an alliance out of fear of their naval power being disrupted. If Germany had not tried to show off, World War One would never have happened.

Fair point. Although the belgium would disagree.

Although, if the French hadn't started preparation for a war against Germany, maybe the fighting would have happened only in the Eastern/Balkan front.
