Rome Never Fell
History
In 395AD Theodosius split the Empire into two. The West and the East. This weakened the Empire to a great extent, causing political strife. The Senate and several Generals of the military began a campaign to gather support against Theodosius. After fifteen years of plotting and arranging they struck, eliminating the Emperor and seizing power. A short term of confusion ensued, and for several years the Empire was invaded on all sides, unopposed barbarian hordes took half of Gaul and Most of Africa. In 430AD the Empire was stabilized internally, a man who took the name of Julius Caesar became Emperor. Claiming to be Julius incarnate, reborn to save Rome, he amassed an army and begun a campaign of reconquest. He ruled for forty years, reclaiming nearly all lost territory and striking back at the Germanic tribes by launching a massive raiding campaign, decimating the population of Northern Germania.
This, Julius Caesar, restored the Empire and reorganized the military but when he died in 470AD. His son who took the name of Augustus lead in his stead, he inherited both the Eastern Empire and the West. The Empire began to crumble once more under Augustus, desperate, he turned to the old gods. He entered the Pantheon alone for five days straight, when he had exited he declared that Augustus was no more and that Jupiter had taken his body so as to lead the Empire to greatness. he led a violent campaign against his political enemies, hiring mobs to eliminate them. This period became know as the time of Split Blood. After it was over Jupiter, as he called himself, gave power to the Senate. From this point on the Empire had remained stagnant.
it is 800AD now, the barbarian hordes are back. kings from the East and the South now seek to destroy the Empire and corruption has once more taken root. A young Emperor has taken power and seeks glory on the field of battle. Governors and Senators seek to fill their coffers. Groups of Plebeians have banded together under the name of Populism. The Empire and the world is teetering on the brink of complete anarchy. How will you make a name for yourself? Will you conquer Rome and destroy civilization? Will you become rich and powerful with an Empire of your own to command? Or will you simply work your farm in hopes that the armies of barbarians and greedy Governors happen to pass by your property? it is up to you, just know Fortuna favors the bold!
