Dilemma for Austria over Hitler's birthplace
27 December 2014 Last updated at 23:46 GMT
The Austrian government is trying to work out what to do with the house in which Adolf Hitler was born.
For years the interior ministry has rented the property in the village of Braunau in order to prevent its misuse by neo-Nazis.
It used to be a day care centre for disabled people but is currently empty.
A Russian MP recently offered to buy the house to destroy it, the offer was rejected.
Bethany Bell visited Braunau to see the house.
well shit
what do you think we/they should do NSG?
i think it's good they rejected the guys offer, though it obviously makes sense that a russian guy really doesn't like hitler. i don't think it should be destroyed just because a bad guy was born there. then again, when you put it like that, i suppose i'm arguing it shouldn't be destroyed because a really famous bad guy was born there.
i would say turn it into a museum or something, but a daycare for the disabled is far too funny not to try and keep going. but yeah. please don't blow it up thanks.
e: i'm hoping we can have a discussion about the preservation of historically significant buildings and whether this counts as such and what to do with it specifically without being condescending and spoonfeeding but i don't want my thread locked because i didn't make it really really really really obvious why it's here. so yeah here it is.
