Your Favorite Christmas Song

Postby SaintB » Sun Dec 21, 2014 2:24 pm

I want one thing to be clear - I hate Christmas music. Its annoying, repetitive, and way overplayed often starting into freakin' October it outstays its welcome and is generally just bothersome noise. I work in radio (never made it a secret) and starting on Thanksgiving Day Christmas music invades my workplace for an entire month and makes it my least favorite time to be at my job.

BUT

Sometimes I like it.

So ladies and gents and etc of NSG: What is your favorite Christmas song? It need not be a carol just one of the hundreds of thousands of songs associated with Christmas.

Mine is probably 'The Carol of the Bells' for its energy and when its performed right is exciting, like an action movie for Christmas bells I guess.I am not a fan of the lyrics though just the music, I love the music for some reason. I also have a soft spot of Elmo and Patsy's 'Gramma Got Run Over by a Reindeer'.

Hey Santa Claus - Kevin Bloody Wilson

more traditionally would be "the Little Drummer Boy"

(I'm also partial to the Boney M Christmas Album)

oh and special mention to Last Christmas - George Michael

I don't know. Give me some recommendations.
I am a thirteen-year-old Dominican male known for my Europhilia and my lack of nationalism (for this country at least). I have yet to find a political ideology that fits me perfectly (I doubt it exists) but generally I'm a centrist leaning a bit toward the left. My family will move to Ireland some time in the summer.

Carol of the Bells is good. White Christmas is alright. I can't stand any others, though.

None of them. Hate Christmas carols and Christmas songs.

U2 - Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

I hate the original. I also like I Believe In Father Christmas and Jingle Bell Rock.

The First Noel and Silent Night are easily my favorite Christmas songs. In particular I like this version of The First Noel. That same band also has their version of Silent Night, though I don't have a particular favorite version of this song.

In general I actually don't mind Christmas music if it's either just instruments (Christmas jazz is some pretty amazing stuff if you find the right kind) or the more religious songs. It's the typical stuff (White Christmas, Jingle Bells, Frosty The Snowman, etc.) that annoys the hell out of me.

I've always liked Good King Wenceslas and absolutely love We Three Kings in most cases.
Unfortunately, neither seems to be played on the radio much, if at all.

Traditional: O Holy Night and Silent Night
Modern: Christmas Eve/Sarajevo 12/24 (Soft spot for White Christmas)
Uh...: Make it So, Manuel, The Night Santa Went Crazy, and of course, Grandma Got Ran Over by a Reindeer

I LIKE Christmas music... but ONLY between the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, it gets shut off on the 26th and I will strangle anyone who plays it before Turkey Day.
