World Junior Hockey Championships VIII (Everything Thread)

Postby The Royal Kingdom of Quebec » Fri Dec 19, 2014 2:17 pm

Bienvenue au Royaume du Quebec!

Welcome everyone to the Royal Kingdom of Quebec, the home of World Cup of Hockey Federation and v. I hope everyone will enjoy your time in this wonderful nation of ethnic diversity(well somewhat), food and of course, hockey! More information on scorination, venues and other information will be found in the next administrative post.

SOME FRIENDLY INFORMATION THAT CAN HELP YOU A LOT

1. RPing doesn't necessary equal win. RPing good, creative and well will increase your chances of winning by a lot, and for most of the times you will. However, it's possible that you might lose even with a perfectly-crafted RP.

2. Please follow the opponent posters. If your opponent has posted a roster, please follow it so you don't get in trouble by that person because you hadn't bothered to look up names. It is annoying when you've posted a roster, but others don't follow and make up names on your team.

3. Follow your opponent's RP permissions. Rp permissions are rules that each individual participant sets, that others must follow. This only applies if you're RPing before the opponent team does. If you've posted your RP after they did, please do try to make the events same. For example, don't post that your team had 5 Touchdowns and 2 Field Goals when you only scored 9 points and the previous RPer said that your team scored 3 Field Goals. If you don't by the deadline, you will not get a RP bonus for that RP.

So, have fun and good luck!

Cutoff time: It'll be approximately 20:00 EST(Toronto-New York Time). In the event that a team or two of mine makes the playoffs, I am requesting that someone make themselves available to scorinate those series for me. TG me if you are willing.

Fighting rules and Penalties associated: Will follow NHL rules, but loosely enforced due to large mix of QHL referees and linesmen in place. You may kill, injure or do whatever with them but please TG me beforehand.

Scorination

Scorination will be done in the latest version of xkoranate on the ice hockey function. Style Modifiers will be from -5 to +5. RPs will be scored from 0 to 2 and the criteria for judging them is based mainly and creativity and how well written they are. The RP bonus will serve as a significant factor in the scorination. They will be cumulative, but all RP bonus will be reduced to half after the group stage. There will also be bonus RP opportunities (that you can ignore if you want) next to some of the scorinated matches, just like how I did in 2 BoIs and RAHIs hosted by me.

Tiebreakers
The tiebreakers work according to this order:
-Points
-H2H Points
-Overall Goal Differential
-H2H Goal Differential

ROYAL KINGDOM OF QUEBEC

Transportation

To arrive in Quebec you'll likely just want to fly in to the city that you will be playing in. The 3 cities going to be hosting the tournament, with all of them possessing a major airport. If you insist on arriving via waterways, then there's nothing to worry, as all 3 holds a port able to hold most vessels.

While travelling inside country, there are main methods you can use for this. The railways here isn't as quick as it'd be with other nations(the maximum speed being 225km for the fastest train service), but they are extremely punctual/on-time, popular and frequent(one train per 30 minutes), making it a very cost-effective and attractive option. Quebec does possess a strong auto industry and cars are somewhat prevalent, so you can travel via cars if interested. Flying between those three cities are not recommended as there are not only very few flights, but also there's no need for them.

Lodging

There will be some hotels of high-calibre(at least 4 star ones) available in those cities. However, those 4 cities being medium-sized cities, there will be some issues. The same will not be guaranteed with the visiting fans as there will be mass influx of Quebecois citizens as well, to watch the games. Therefore it is recommended to make reservations 3-4 months ahead of the tournament, in order to guarantee your reservation in the hotels around the city.

If you are still in trouble of finding hotel or motel suites, there will be hotels, motels and other modes of accomodation available at your expense, on towns slightly far away from the venues(50km-100km). For more information please contact Tourism Quebec or for more specific information any tourism agency of the city/cities you'll be off to(OOC: TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec if you have any questions or so).

Weather

Royal Kingdom of Quebec is located in Temperate and Polar regions, with the cities located in varying degrees of climate zones so all 4 seasons can be experienced each year, but with different extremes. As this tournament is held during the month of January, temperatures will be and stay below freezing, with an extreme possibility of frequent snowfall daily. This will not affect the train services and games however, with the latter being that all the games will be held indoors.

Right below this, there are some mentions of weather in the 5 cities that will host the WJHC:

Churchill: With temperatures down to -41°C in a strong winter day or to -26°C which is the average temperature of the city in the winter, it will be next to impossible for those in Churchill to go outside without either wearing 10 layers of warm clothing or using the city's extensive underground.

Winnipeg: Temperatures will stay around -9'C in the southern capital of Manitoba on an average day, but the city itself being located in middle of Great Manitoban Prairies and gigantic Lac Riel makes it a very windy, empty city in the winter days. Be careful walking around in the nighttime, especially in some tough neighbourhoods.

Sarnia: Temperatures fortunately will stay around -5'C in average day, with actual temperature being lot warmer due to Sarnia's abundance in manufacturing and chemical factories providing all the warmth and smoke for its lonely, winter days. The proximity to the Kamikwajaang River also helps.

London: Similar to Sarnia, without all the chemical factories in the river. Also, London's lot more suburban than Sarnia.

Kenora-Thunder Bay: Kenora's simply not the place to go if you're someone from warmer climate. Despite being cold, extended snow free periods occur in most winter seasons and precipitation can be rainfall with temperatures sometimes climbing above 10 °C (50 °F). The average January maximum/minimum is −1 °C (30 °F)/−7 °C (19 °F) in the city. With Kenora being located right next to Lake Superior, it won't be as snowing as much but wind chills are frequent.

Languages

There are three official languages in this nation: English, French and Korean. All 3 languages are taught in school curriculum and with great depth, causing most of the population to be at least trilingual. Additionally, in this part of the nation there are some other First Nations languages being recognised as regional languages and are used+learned to great depth in schools, so please note this when you're RPing in Quebec. Most Quebecois you'll meet are extremely polyglot and that will show with way they speak.

When it comes to linguistic status on city that you're RPing on/about, you're more than welcome to TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec about it.

Money

The national currency of Quebec is Quebecois Dollar, which is fairly expensive. The current exchange rate is $3 NS for 1 Quebecois dollar. With the nation being rich with huge economy, almost everyone will have at least has a good deal of money here. So please don't feel surprised if the products are much more expensive here than back home, excluding alcohol.

Things you'll need in your stay, prices in NS Dollars (NS$) and Quebecois Dollars (Q$)

-Hotel: NS$ 35-400, Q$12-135
-Public transport in the cities: NS$2-$5, Q$0.7-1.7
-Bus transport to different cities: NS$5-50, Q$1.7-17
-Train transport to different cities: NS$6-80, Q$2-28
-Ferry between lakes: NS$5-$12, Q$1.7-4
-Flights between cities: NS$65-150, Q$22-50
-Average cost of food: NS$12-45, Q$4-15
-Hockey tickets: NS$60-600, Q$20-200 (TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for hockey tickets of each match, for they all vary between arenas and matches)
-Bottle of water: NS$9, Q$3 (Sale of bottled water extremely limited, with public fountains providing very low interest for the people)
-Public phone: NS$1.5 per call, Q$0.5 per call

Entertainment

Mediums of entertainment are largely varied based upon where you go. It's time for a handy chart.

Winnipeg: Gambling(3 casinos in the area), Bars, Arcades, amusement parks, Rap concerts
Kenora-Thunder Bay: Lakefront (Lake Superior) attractions, Lakehead District Country Festival(largest country music festival in AO, if not multiverse)
Sarnia: Heavy metal concerts(54 venues in a downtown of 175,000 people)
London: Live (weekly) execution ceremonies, Country concerts
Churchill: Ecotourism(watching polar bears or beluga whales just few kilometres from the city), inuit traditional arts

Once again, if you have any questions, please TG the very guy behind this.

Cuisine

Quebecois cuisine has evolved through centuries of social and political change. Originating from dominant Korean and elegant French cuisine that came with settlers, as well as materials and existing food of the First Nations living in the area, Quebecois cuisine has evolved through a complex interaction of the natural environment and different cultural trends and is the best mix of it all.

Quebecois cuisine is largely based upon rice, other diverse kinds of grains, vegetables, and meats(in this area moose and caribou, and to rare cases bears). The meals are noted for the number of side dishes (banchan) that accompany steam-cooked short-grain rice. It varies on the personal preferences but often in every meal they eat at least some form of maple syrup, Kimchi and/or bread. Commonly used ingredients include sesame oil, doenjang (fermented bean paste), soy sauce, salt, garlic, ginger, pepper flakes and gochujang (fermented red chili paste). In this part of the nation, fish are caught off the rivers and lakes to be eaten in whatever the way one prefers as well.

Ingredients and dishes vary by region to region, with many. Many regional dishes have become national, and dishes that were once regional have proliferated in different variations across the country.
Meals are regulated by cultural etiquette, which are very hard to follow for even the average Quebecois due to all the processes they take.

TG The Royal Kingdom of Quebec for any questions.

Religion

Quebec is a religiously diverse country, though divided when it comes to dominant regions. In the cities where the World Juniors will be hosted, First Nations' religions are widely practiced, with Quebecois Catholic Church and Buddhism right behind. Due to these differences, all three levels of Government keeps some separation from any religions, though they still hold some influences in those levels and receive lots of funding. It is also not recommended to argue about politics or religion in Quebec, as political and religious apathy is not known....for most part.

Laws

Culturally and socially, Quebec is in bit of a mix. Another handy chart will be in place to explain some of Quebec's laws in place:

Recreational drugs: Legal, though selling them without licence can lead to up to $10,000 in fines and 5 years in jail.
Hard drugs: Illegal, with punishments up to $50,000 in fines and 15 years in jail for possession and consumption of the drugs
Prostitution: Legal, though people's attitudes about it will be very conservative in this part of the nation
Pornography: Legal, aside from child pornography(applies to any pornographic videos or anything else starring people up to 18 years of age). Possession of child pornography will land you straight in jail for 5 years, while production and distribution of it can lead to potential death sentence. So, don't try it as it's a big no-no.
Legal age for tobacco: Varies (16 in Val d'Or and Rouyn-Noranda, 19 in Churchill and Winnipeg, 18 in rest)
Legal age for alcohol: 16
Maximum BAC to drive: 0.03.
Saying the word 'Coconut': Legal

All the foreign citizens caught under the Federal and/or Provincial law will not be extradited, unless of a special order given by the Emperor, His Imperial Majesty the Jacques IX.

Arenas

MTS Centre, Winnipeg

Hosting: Group A
Winnipeg, being the largest of all Quebecois cities west of Kingston and Attawapiskat, is the true regional centre and gateway to Western Quebec. The city, who also has a large First Nations and Guayabalense-Quebecois population, is a hockey and entertainment hotbed for all, with it constantly raking me off the draws. MTS Centre is the home of the Winnipeg Giants of the Quebec Hockey League(WHL) and Winnipeg Winterhawks of Western Hockey League(WHL). It has the capacity of 15,660 for hockey and 17,220 for concerts. With QHL expanding to Winnipeg sometime ago, it was built in 2013(4 years ago) as a shiny, brand new building for the hockey communities of the city, who fill the city with relative ease. MTS Centre is located in the heart of Downtown Winnipeg, with symbolic QNR station just a block away and business district right around it.

QNR Place, Churchill

Hosting: Group B
The Northernmost arena that's going to be used in the tournament, it is located in Churchill, right at the Northwestern corner of the region by the frozen, deep Arctic Ocean. Churchill is an extremely small city with the populace of around 175,000 people in the city in the Arctic zone and main industries being ecotourism, fishing and shipping industries. QNR Place, the 9,750-seater, is a small but extremely historic arena in the region with lots of history but next to no modern amenities. It is located at the western end of the town, with the highway and 2 bus routes connecting them from Downtown and the railway station, which is around 15 minutes away. They've got excellent arena food though, with caribou meat and fries being the main ones.

Carlton Centre, London

Hosting: Group C
London, on the other hand, is totally different to its western playmate 108 kilometres away. It is more of white-collar city, a regional centre of health care and education, with its economic activity is centering on education, medical research, insurance, and information technology. It is a regional transportation hub, lying at the junction of Highway 11 and 12, a train station with two lines junctioning, and a decently-sized municipal airport. Aside from that, it is a fairly boring to stay.
Carlton Centre, named in honour of legendary brewers Carlton Family, is a 12,300 seater arena home to WHL franchise London Knights. Opening in 1996, it is a fairly decent arena when it comes to amenities, but the atmosphere is dependent of the presence of college crowd(in which there are lots, due to 3 universities being located in the area).

Pemashwin County Veterans Memorial Coliseum, Sarnia

Hosting: Group D
Sarnia, on the other hand, is the southernmost arena for the Quebecois part of the tournament, right by the Kamikwajaang River and Quebecois-Austenersian border. And as anyone could figure out, it is the most blue-collar of the cities. Chemical and manufacturing factories are everywhere and with the presence of factory workers the area itself is predominantly masculine and rough in nature. Therefore it is of no surprise that 16,430-seater by the name of Pemashwin County Veterans Memorial Coliseum(PCVMC) is host to QHL defensive powerhouse by the name of Sarnia Spark. The arena itself is right next to the rougher, blue collar part of the city with those in attendance for hockey games being lot more rowdy, but also friendly to hang around with. Then there's poutines and local meals provided at the restaurants available in the arena, with quantities and qualities far greater than other arenas.

Kozlovka Place, Kenora

Hosting: Group E
In the city of Kenora, it is Kozlovka Place that'll host the games. Blessed by the picturesque Lake Superior, beautiful nature on the Lakehead region, as well as being socially conservative and more country-bound, Kenora, along with Twin Cities(Trojana and Trojanajara), is home to the Multiverse's hotbed of country music. Kozlovska Place, a state-of-art arena hosting QHL(Quebec Hockey League) team Kenora Thunderwolves and QIS(Quebec Intercollegiate Sports) team Lakehead Thunderwolves, is a 16,430-seater that looks to provide some taste of Quebecois country into the world of hockey. It is also among the finer arenas in the nation.

Go crazy, but don't kill Lord Almighty Gregory. However, expect reciprocation if you injure/kill my players. Also, if you mention my country in an RP but don't call it by its full name (i.e. "Gregoryisgodistan" without any special formatting in the middle) please TG me to give me a heads up.You don't need to wait for permission and I might not even reply. I often search for my country's name so I can respond to RP's more easily, but if you don't mention it by name, that doesn't work. You can also mention it by name in an OOC note somewhere in the RP instead of TG'ing me, since then it will show up in a search. If for whatever IC reason you decide to strike the "isgod" in the name of the nation, as in Gregoryisgodistan, that will not suffice as notification as it will not show up in the search. In that case, TG me or mention my name without the strike either IC-ly or OOC-ly somewhere in your RP. If the formatting effects the whole name (i.e. Gregoryisgodistan, it will still show up in search, so you don't need to do anything else.

Actor 81248D8J is well-known for playing Doybert on the hit TV show "Costa Lunians Say the Darndest Things". Other than that, none of our players are big names.

We will wear dark uniforms for home matches. For away matches, if our opponent wears a dark uniform, we will wear white. If our opponent wears white, we will wear our dark uniform.

Lord Almighty Gregory recently announced the construction of Willingsley Arena, which will host its first games during the upcoming World Cup of Hockey. It seats 9,500, with room for an additional 570 fans of the visiting team to be hung from the rafters. No other visiting fans will be allowed in the arena.

What's a Pervert Chaser? Sounds inappropriate.
A pervert chaser is someone whose job it is to chase down those accused of sexually-related crimes, like mooning, nudity, indecent exposure, rape, and molestation, and cut off their private organs, then bring them in for trial, sentencing, and either a fine, slave labor, or execution depending on the offense.

Do you have any strange laws?
Yes, lots. All citizens are required to worship Lord Almighty Gregory numerous times each day, sing the national anthem every hour on the hour, and obey numerous other laws under harsh threats of penalty. For instance, uttering the word "coconut", farting, and eating any food other than gruel or prune juice, among numerous other crimes, are punishable by death.

Oh my god, will we have to follow these laws too?
Gregoryisgodistan respects freedom of religion for foreign visitors as long as the visitor's home country respects the freedom of Gregoryisgodistanis to worship Lord Almighty Gregory, their head of state and claimed deity. If you are from a country that has freedom of religion, you will not be subject to the laws of Gregoryisgodistan, with the exception of those against murder, theft, etc. If, on the other hand, your country only allows a state religion, and/or has banned the Church of Gregoryisgodistan, we will enforce our religion and laws on you full force and expect you to follow them or face the same consequences our citizens would.

What's a Horse Beater?
One form of entertainment in Gregoryisgodistan is where a Horse Beat beats horses with all sorts of torture devices, like whips, maces, pepper spray, and machetes, until the horse dies a horrible painful death. It is like rodeos, only more gruesome. These horses are randomly caught in the countryside by Horse Snatchers, then sold to Horse Recruiters, who bring them to the Horse Beating Show.

I'm from a country with sapient ponies. Should we be afraid?
Our laws prevent sapient beings from being beaten, but also define sapient beings as humans or intelligent extraterrestrials. So alien ponies need not worry. Earth ponies, on the other hand, could theoretically be caught, but as long as they do not roam the countryside with wild, non-sapient ponies, they should be fine, since horse snatchers typically do not look for horses in hotels or hockey rinks.

What's an Enemy Crusher?
Enemy crushers are very heavy Gregoryisgodistani government agents whose job it is to crush and torture criminals to get them to reveal information. They almost always kill the criminal. Enemy Crushers at the World Bowl and World Cup of Hockey, among other tournaments, crushed to death numerous fans, referees, and opponents. They were then rewarded by the Gregoryisgodistani government.

Should I be afraid?
Just don't anger an Enemy Crusher and you'll be fine.

Which players like to fight?
The pervert chasers, prison guards, and slave beaters are very prone to fights due to their violent professions. Additionally, the Enemy Crushers have been known to crush opposing players, referees, or spectators. This often results in their deaths, much like what happened at the World Bowl. Nobody other than Enemy Crushers are capable of killing anyone, though pervert chasers carry their private-cutting knife with them at all times, and in the event a player, coach, fan, or spectator commits a sexual-related crime during a hockey match in Gregoryisgodistan, they will cut off their privates in the middle of the match. It might even happen in road matches. This will be very painful. So basically, don't indecently expose yourselves and you should be fine.

The Walamzian team has arrived in Quebec with several of the players feeling a little woosy from the cold. They travel to Sarnia to check into their hotel rooms and meet up with the other players. They will gather around and watch the draw for the groups. If necessary, the Walamzian Hockey Association will change their accomodations, so the players have been told not to get too comfortable depending on which group they will be in.

DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF ABANHFLEFT
NATIONAL ICE HOCKEY TEAM - MIXED

This is Abanhfleft's second time participating in World Junior Hockey Championships. The Democratic Republic will be sending over a team composed of both male and female players, owing to a tragedy that occurred more than a year before this tournament, in which many of the country's best young players tragically lost their lives in an air crash reminiscent of the ones that claimed the lives of Lokomotiv Yaroslavl and Busby's Babes. Before every match, the players and coaching staff will place pictures of the deceased on the ice rink and ask for a minute of silence. The lineup is mostly unchanged, as well as the management staff.

Do whatever you want, under these conditions:

  1. Don't kill any of my players.
  2. If you do RP any injuries to my players, the longest they can be out is four matches. Same goes with suspensions, if there are any. Also, don't injure my staff.
  3. It might be a good idea to TG me if you want to RP/Godmod anything other than scoring, penalties, injuries or ejections. I'm OK with fights, though, so if The Royal Kingdom of Quebec says that your players can fight mine, then go ahead and put it in.

  • Arik and Mical's names are pronounces "Eh-REEK Ah-ruh-neh" and "Mee-kehl Koh-Kehn" respectively. Just in case anyone asks.
  • The Iyilim translation for "Elejamian national junior men's ice hockey team" - "Ah-lah-YEHM uh-neh-dah dyoo-nehl mah-neem ees-hoh-kee teem" - literally means "Elejamie under two-zero mans ice hockey team". Again, just in case
  • Despite the name, Stacy Saunders is a guy. So don't call him a "her" during your RP.
  • Bill Judge is pretty much the team's enforcer, so if a fight does break out and you're RPing, see if you can fit him in somehow. If he's unavailable (either because he's been injured, penalised, ejected or banned), then chances are it'll go to Mical Cocan, Rafael Espinosa, Paul Renford or George Berg. You choose.
  • I have plenty of Bills here, don't I?
  • For Gregoryisgodistan: In the event my team is up against yours, my team's home kit is their "dark uniform". Also, if my team wearing their away kit, then they're "wearing white". Just letting you know, is all.
  • If you have any problems with this, please let me know what they are via TG and I'll sort them out
  • Despite having the same name, Assistant Manager Andrew "Andy" Bailey is not the same person as, nor is he related to, right winger Andrew Bailey. I didn't notice this at first, but I'm still going to roll with it.
  • Please get back to me with RP info by 11:30pm GMT, so that I can get my RP ready. The earlier, the better, so we can work things out.
  • OK, I'll stop editing it now. For real, this time.

Junior Ice Slaves Drawn Into Supremely Easy Group

Gregoryisgodistan's beloved Junior Ice Slaves have been drawn into a group that is as easy as a Costa Lunian exam. The one difference is that Gregoryisgodistanis are not Costa Lunians and should easily ace it. After all, the senior team is the second-best in the multiverse and many players on this team will be competing for backup roles on the team that will be competing in the Olympics in January. So there's a lot at stake for the Junior Ice Slaves and their players. They will be looking to shine. In Gregoryisgodistan's group are the idiots from Britonisea, almost as dumb as the Costa Lunians, and unknown teams from Walamzia, Ctulhtii, and The United States of Mintion.

Gregoryisgodistan has the dreaded Matchday 1 bye, meaning they will have to watch as everyone but them plays their opening games except for them. The Junior Ice Slaves will be in team meetings, and hopefully nobody puts forbidden fruit in their hotel rooms again. Should that happen, there will be Crushings. After all, the Enemy Crushers In Training agreed to nothing about crushing. And the Slave Beaters can still beat anyone they want since they agreed to nothing either. So this will certainly be a very violent tournament filled with fun and fraught with peril for opposition.

On Matchday 2, the Junior Ice Slaves take on the Britonish dunces. Britonisea's citizens all lack a basic education and the ability to speak English. They are as stupid as Estenians and almost as stupid as Costa Lunians. At least every third word out of their mouth isn't "doy." But their brand of English is utterly incomprehensible and frankly painful to listen to. Britonisea is also known for their very stupid host bids which amaze everyone at their stupidity. Then they wind up hosting a bunch of stuff by default and cry when nobody will award them stuff because they're such an "experienced host." But they invented all the tournaments they hosted, and they were all failures. They are currently hosting a fake Olympics which is also a major failure. Everyone knows the real Olympics will be held next month in the Holy Republican Empire and Lord Almighty Gregory will defeat King Petrus. The Fake Olympics in Britonisea are stupid, just like all the Britonish citizens. Gregoryisgodistan should vanquish those fools easily.

Next up is Walamzia. Not much is known about Walamzia but they appear to be a newcomer to the sporting community. It should also be an easy win, but the Ice Slaves should learn never to underestimate the little guy. That being said, we expect a blowout, possibly with some crushings and definitely with some huge hits. These Junior Ice Slaves want to earn their place on the senior team and will do everything in their power to do so. They also want to impress Lord Almighty Gregory in the hopes that he will give them a good Gregmas present. After all, it is almost Gregmas and what better Gregmas present than a victory? Grand Gregmas to all.

On Matchday 4, Gregoryisgodistan will face Ctulhtii, which nobody can spell or pronounce. So we will just ignore them and hope they go away. They will and Gregoryisgodistan will easily dispose of them in another blowout victory. It will be cause for celebration throughout the nation and Lord Almighty Gregory will be pleased. There will be checking, beating, and all out song and cheer. The Enemy Crushers will burn flags on center ice and crush dummies representing their opponents. It will be totally awesome.

On the final matchday, the opponent will be The United States of Minton. Nobody has heard of them either. It should be an easy win. Gregoryisgodisan should easily go perfect through the Group Stage and blow out their opponents, earning the number 1 seed in the knockout stage. It will not be an issue for anyone. We will all be proud to be Gregoryisgodistani when the Junior Ice Slaves hoist the trophy.

Gregoryisgodistan finished second in WJHC VI. Last time out, the Junior Ice Slaves seemingly advanced to the semifinals with a shootout victory over Nova Anglicana. However, the idiot clown organizers from Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland decided that the matchups were wrong after they had already been played and decided to play the quarterfinals again with the correct matchups. A confused Junior Ice Slaves team lost to Nassau-Hessen. Lord Almighty Gregory and the Enemy Crushers were greatly displeased and planned to crush all the tournament organizers the next morning in a coordinated attack. However, they were forced to leave after the intelligence community in Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland got wind of these plans and removed them. Lord Almighty Gregory was furious and said that if Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland ever takes any negative action toward any Gregoryisgodistani athletic team ever again, they will be added to the Enemy List. However, he was gracious and merciful and did not add Schutzenphalia and West Ruhntuhnkuhnland that time. They have been warned.

It is sure to be a fun tournament. Lord Almighty Gregory will cause the team to win the tournament. Glory Glory Junior Ice Slaves!
Gregoryisgodistan, population 75,000,000. All citizens are required to worship Lord Almighty Gregory, our head of state, as a deity.

QBC/RADIO-QUEBEC: SPORTS BROADCAST

The World Junior Hockey Championships are just hours away, and the city of Winnipeg kicked the tournament off with a bang, hosting a large celebration of hockey outside MTS Centre. The likes of Winnipeg Giants defenceman and Captain Yves Jodoin, rap duo Los Maghrebins, local rugby, mayor Louis Despres, and a cavalcade of other stars hosted a rally in front of about 50,000 people in Station Square, Winnipeg. The event also featured games for kids, a parade across the city's Downtown, and an opportunity for the public to skate on the MTS Centre ice before the tournament kicks off in 19:30 Manitoba Standard Time(meaning the game will be starting in 20:30 for those in QST and 21:30 for MST, as well as 22:00 for MST), when the U20 Ice Knights take on Abanhfleft.

As for the actual Commonwealth teams, much of the talk seems to defenseman David Roy. Roy, a 18-year old who was drafted by Sherbrooke Phoenix 1st overall last June, is currently 3rd in team scoring with 28 points in 31 games for the improving Phoenix. With the high rate of production he's been getting in QHL, he looks to be the next one of Ice Knights' bloodline of talented offensive defenseman. He is expected to be paired with one of two returnees from last year's 3rd-placing defensive corps, Raoul Kim, and to play in PPs and PKs in first unit. Kim, a 7th overall pick by Gaspe Oilers two QHL drafts ago, has proven himself in junior levels and in WJHC last season, so it looks to be that the idea may be about the purpose of shutdown and giving them as much icetime as possible.

Also attracting attention on the team is the Norrehavn's 18-year old, Patrik Zboril of the Saint John Acadiens. Zboril's a very smart and physical defenceman whose key emphasis is on defensive game. He has a powerful slapshot and should get some power play time, but it is in penalty kills where he's going to be relied on as the #1 option.

Darryl Robinson did not have much to say about the first match against Abanhfleft specifically, saying simply that they've studied the team from last year's performance, but due to the largely intact roster of the team, as well as rapidly changing nature of junior hockey, it is widely expected that the team should be very competitive this year. For Quebec, that should entail a flashy, up tempo game in front of a raucous home crowd, but domination against Abanhfleft's not expected.

Saunders Interview - 21st December 2014
Yesterday morning, the Elejamian team arrived in Churchill. Elejamie, who'll be making their tournament debut, have sent their finest ENJIHL (Elejamian National Junior Ice Hockey League) players, including Murgon Mayhem's Stacy Saunders and Mical "Cocaine" Cocan; Coventry Automatics left-winger and all around tough guy Bill Judge; and Ángeles de la Playa de Rocas goaltender Pedro Cervantes, whose uncle Antonio plays for the senior team. We caught up with Saunders, who has been appointed captain by head coach Sumio Kitahara, as he was taking a break from practice.

ESC: Good afternoon, Stacy.
SS: Well, hello there.
ESC: How are you guys enjoying Quebec?
SS: Not bad. A bit colder than we're used to, but hey ho.
ESC: Are you guys looking forward to your first match against New North Aqmuland?
SS: It's a mixed bag, really. Although most of us are looking forward to it, a few of us - like Bukowski, Ryan, Andy... - they're worrying about slipping up.
ESC: What are you guys doing to bring up morale?
SS: After practice, we play a bit of NHL, maybe watch a movie or two. Just try to unwind by doing stuff together.
ESC: Interesting. Do you guys think you will win it?
SS: I wouldn't go that far! First we gotta get out of the group, which might be a bit of a challenge. And then, once we've done that, we'll start thinking about winning the tourney.
ESC: Anything else you wish to say before we wrap things up?
SS: No.
ESC: Thank you for your time. Hope you guys do well.
SS: You're welcome.

Elejamie will play its first Group 2 match against New North Aqmuland tomorrow, whilst Kolmya will entertain Patistan.

Coach: Alright, boys! We need to leave Sarnia and go to London. I told you not to get too comfy. Let's go, we've got a train to catch.

*They get on the train to London and check into their hotel*

Now, all of us can properly unpack. We got practice at 6AM tomorrow morning. No excuses; don't be late.

Varish Hockey players will never be the biggest on the ice, however, one would be ignorant to claim that they aren't fast, skilled, and driven. Vares are known to execute flawless breakouts, carry the puck seamlessly through the neutral zone, and cross the blue zone with impeccable skill. Passes are abundant and quick; shots almost always come from the wrist and rarely fail to hit the net. On defense, harsh, unforgiving poke checks and stick lifts follow opponents like maggots on rotten meat. Lacking size, Vares exploit the principle force equals mass multiplied by acceleration by using their speed to inflict damage in the corners open ice with punishing checks. Finally, the most ascribable characteristic to Varish hockey is resilience; no lead is comfortable when playing against Vares. Varish hockey is a force to be reckoned with.

Nova Anglicana U-20 Hockey Roster

Head Coach: Dominique Culbertson
Style Modifier: +3
Captain: Dan Warner
Assistant Captains: Bo Knudsen, Justin Reed

1st Line
RW Dan Warner, 20 - Warner's wrister has been called "the best in Nova Anglicana", all-out attacks mentality
C Ryan Roberson, 18 - Roberson exploded onto the scene after winning national high school title, otherworldly stickhandling and passing
LW Justin Reed, 20 - Reed's a burly, aggressive player, expect him to mix it up a little, good shooter

2nd Line
RW Julian Quinn, 19 - Quinn is tall and thin, but a great skater, hard to hit with a decent shot
C Luke Watkins, 19 - Watkins makes this the best skating line, good passer and extremely quick
LW Stephen Keller, 20 - Keller loves the breakaway, always trying to steal the puck, excellent goal-scorer

3rd Line
RW Connie Giroux, 20 – Giroux is energy and speed guy, used to tire out opponents and steal goals
C Alex Chandler, 18 - converted defenseman can lay some good licks on opposing players, really pesky on defense,
LW André Buchanan, 19 - Buchanan's not afraid to check and check hard, better than average defender for a wing, likes assists

4th Line
RW Pierre Bordelon, 18 - Bordelon takes too many shots for a fourth liner, but scored plenty of goals for his club team
C Erik Hunter, 20 - Hunter is a banger with a decent passing game, needs to work on his shot
LW Perry Bishop, 20 - Bishop has a heavy slap shot and is a good athlete, needs to work on everything else

Pair 1
Bo Knudsen, 20 - Knudsen is an extremely hard worker who will fiercely protect his teammates and clear people out from in front of the goal
Brian Caldwell, 20 - Caldwell is a great two-way player, breakout year has him looking like future star

Pair 2
Anthony Rogers, 19 - Rogers is a big body who is good at all types of checks, no offensive game to speak of
Kristof Ridenour, 20 - a German immigrant, Ridenour is still learning English, but like Knudsen, is a hard worker; good reaction time

Pair 3
Roland Boulanger, 18 - has great awareness on the ice, but needs to bulk up a bit
Grant Cross, 19 - Cross has a cannon of a slap shot, but he's slow and has average passing skills

Goaltenders
Blake Burns, 20 - seriously competitive, excellent player but poor teammate
Brandon Wiseman, 18 - great natural talent, comes out of the crease to play the puck too much

My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following...
Choose My Scorers: Yes
Godmod Scoring Events: No
RP Injuries to My Players: No
Godmod Injuries to My Players: No
RP Penalties for My Players: Yes
RP Ejections for My Players: Yes, only Lovett, 'cause he's the fighter

Schedule (Group D)

MD1: Nova Anglicana vs. Estenia
MD2: Bye
MD3: Nova Anglicana vs. North Britonisea
MD4: Nova Anglicana vs. United States of Devonta
MD5: Nova Anglicana vs. Gyatso-Kai

The Young Lions are an experienced side, competing in every WJHC since the 4th edition. Their previous efforts gained them 4th, 3rd, a quarterfinal appearance, and finally a championship (1-0 over Esparmuran in Schutzenphalia & West Ruhntuhnkuhnland). The defending champions are a little different from the last edition, having to replace their top three centers. Their group looks to be balanced. The name that jumps out at you right away is Gyatso-Kai, who have a strong senior program. Though it remains to be seen how their junior team will play, their MD5 game against the Avatarians could decide the group. The other teams are all new: Estenia, North Britonisea, and the United States of Devonta. One could easily assume that these teams are easy pickings, but they are all assuredly hungry and scrappy teams that won't give up without a fight. The Young Lions are favored to win the group, but don't think that means this will be a cakewalk.

'PIONEERS' WIN OPENER 5-0

QUEBEC - For a hockey federation that has been under intense pressure ever since Novaya Zemlya's embarrasing display in the World Cup earlier this year, the opening game of the World Juniors sure came as a relief.

52 percent of the population were seated infront of their TV screens as Novaya Zemlya cruised to a comfortable 5-0 victory against Nassau-Hessen in Kozlovka Place, Kenora. This also meant that 52 percent of the people were exposed to the arena DJ's shameless selection of reactionary country music. In the third period novozemlyan broadcasters saw themselves forced to cut out the game audio between whistles and TV timeouts were devoted to Party-approved workers' songs.

Cultural incidents aside, the game shows that the novozemlyan hockey program is heading in the right direction and we are now starting to reap the rewards of all that money spent on hockey education and rinks in the last few five year plans. Next game for the Pioneers is tonight versus Pays den Haut.

Read more about the World Juniors on pages 4,5,6,7,8,14,15.

Walamzia Wins Opener 4-1

The Walamzian junior hockey team won their first game 4-1 in Group C today of the World Junior Championships. Coach John Believeau spoke to the media after the game:

"I think it was a great win for the boys today. They played their little behinds off today. I think that we played a very physical game, and it showed in our effort. We have players who aren't afraid to go to the dirty areas and will produce in those areas when called upon."

His message to the players:

"Now, we won, but there is still a lot of work to do. I reckon we should've won by at least 7 or 8 goals... and that's not counting their goal as legitimate. The tripping call was bogus, but still, we need to work on the PK. We lost our box formation on their goal, and we looked like little fleas running around our defensive zone. So, celebrate tonight, but not too much. We have work to do to prepare for the next one."

Opinion Letters

Dear readers, I think Pays d'en Haut should allow women to play in the NHL (Nord Hockey League), the LHJMPH (Ligue de Hockey Junior Majeure des Pays d'en Haut) and on the national teams as well. Women are good at hockey too! I'm actually a female hockey player playing in an undergroud league (yeah those exists) and some of my teammates - who are women too - are better than some NHL players! I think Pays d'en Haut is a backward country and we need to stop being backward!

Émily

I'm actually really shocked, yesterday I was riding my horse across the parliament (which is a tavern by the way) in the capital city of St-Jérôme, and there were women protesting! Why the ... they were protesting? They can't stay at home and cook and do some housework like any other obedient women? Apparently they want "more right" what the ... is a right? They have the right to cook and do housework, it's enough for them! I think our benevolent government should put them women in jail!

Pierre, clan Gagné

yo i fink we r a good team n we gonna beat novaya zemlya tomarrow they arent as good as us we r the best team in the group e go habitants lol

jean-simon, clan tremblay

editor's note: The last one is the poorest opinion letter we ever received, we are publishing it in it's integrality without correcting it.
