Fighting the ZANU (PMT, IC)

Postby The Rhodesian State » Fri Dec 19, 2014 4:07 am

Rhodesia, formerly Zimbabwe, has fought a long and hard battle to prosperity. The party associated with Robert Mugabe was the Zimbabwe African National Union or ZANU, a Marxist group set on expelling the whites and redistributing the lands to the nation. However, this caused loss of jobs, unemployment, food scarcity, and hyperinflation. After Mugabe's death in 2015, the party and Zimbabwe collapsed, and Rhodesia was born from its ashes.

Here is the situation:

The year is 2037. The government of Rhodesia (formerly Zimbabwe) is currently a presidential-parliamentary hybrid, ruled by many parties in Rhodesia's lexicon, and enjoys healthy support from the urban population. However, some of the rural lands of Rhodesia still support the ZANU, and often clash with government police and troops. The ZANU were banned from representation in Parliament during the rising of the new government dues to being deemed terrorist group. However, that did not stop the ZANU from retreating to sparsely populated locations or rural villages, and seeking vengeance of the government that have uprooted them from power. The ZANU have been conducting small attacks on public areas and government offices in major cities, and are able to retreat to the rural countryside.

The urban cities of Unara, Bulawayo, and Gweru enjoy heavy policing, though some attacks on government offices and public marketplaces have occurred. However, the Rhodesian government is still trying to play catch-up with the dismay left from the last government on rural areas, including lack of policing, administration, and basic needs such as electricity, sewage, running water, etc. Rural towns often become a safe haven for ZANU troops, disappearing into the populace of the town when the army does roll in.

Above is a map outling the current insurgency conflict. Yellow represents increased terrorist activity within the last two years, including excessive crime. Red outlines suspected and known hiding locations and encampments for terrorist(including ZANU) company-size elements or larger. Blue represents military centers, such as Forts, Air Force Bases, and SAC Task Force locations.

Currently, in addition to deploying troops internationally for humanitarian roles, the military of Rhodesia has been deployed to squash the insurgency. The Rhodesian military is currently focusing on counterinsurgency in Hwange National Park, and near the border around Lusaka. Army helicopters search the wood line for terrorist camps and targets of opportunity. What is needed is your government's stance and how they may play a part in this conflict. Do you stand with the government of the growing nation, or do you still support the Marxist ideals under Mugabe? If you wish to deploy troops, how many, and what role would they play, and what would your ORBAT look like? The government is hoping to avoid another Bush War by squashing the insurrection quickly with international aid.

Rules:
1. No god modding
2. Military numbers and population should be relative and not overwhelmingly excessive
3. Please let me know in advance if you seek to invade (though that isn't really the point)
4. PMT, Technology only one generation or so than current standards. Imagine our stuff, but slightly better. No rocket ships or laser beams
5. There's pizza at the end

.....In current news, The Minister of Defense has announced a new offensive on suspected and known ZANU locations within Rhodesia. Today, the Government has ordered a push into known ZANU locations, starting with the Hwange National Park. The Hwange National Park, though a wilderness protectorate, is believed to house upwards to 2,000 ZANU troops in and outside of the Rhodesian-Botswana Border.

Rebel camps, such as this one photographed on a few days ago, show that the ZANU guerrillas have established permanent settlements and bases within the Hwange National Park. These camps are also believed to be hosting training complexes, ammunition depots, and even some of the top ZANU commanders. However, ZANU Supreme Commander, Mark Mutangayo, is not expected to be hiding in the Hwange.

As we can reference by this material approved by the Military Ministry, The government safe line is located in green. This represents the border and checkpoints that the government has set up between the safe zone outside of the National Park, and what is believed to be the unsafe ZANU guerrilla locations. This green line also represents Rhodesian and SAC troops awaiting deployment. The push, which is expected to be carried out within the hour, will send approximately four full brigades, or about 6,500 troops into the National Park. The advance is attempting to push the largest ZANU rebel group either out of the forest, or to capture the majority of the group. The elements from the Rhodesian Army Ranger Regiment is expected to take point on this advance. The advance will be conducted by a mixture of air-borne, air-mobile, and ground operations. The Air Force and Army Aviation elements are expected to take part in the offensive as well, however, will be restricted to observation roles as the National Park is a protectorate to wildlife. The Task Force Joint Commander, Lt.Gen Kitsamara Olanbotayo, had this to say,

"We push into the forest to help eliminate cells of ZANU, and to gain the upper hand. ZANU is a threat to the safety and stability of a new nation of peace. In this offensive here and in other locations, we hope to neutralize the rouge elements that have terrorized our lovely nation. Today we deploy and fight, tomorrow we build the region to be as prosperous as ever."

This offensive is in conjunction with a similar raid that the Botswana government is conducting on their side of the Hwange. Within the estimates for government troops on the offensive are troops from member nations of the SAC. More details on the offensive are to follow as events unfold.

Official Communication of the Rhodesian Government

To: The Government of the Union Republic of Bendicion
From: President Makasa Barakas, President of the Rhodesian State
CC: President Gideon Kalanx Reinaldi, President of the Union Republic of Bendicion

My Warmest Greetings,

It is certainly nice to finally hear from your great nation. Your nation's reputation within and outside of our lands is nothing short of admirable.

We would certainly appreciate your assistance in this situation. At the current time, the only combat troops operating in Rhodesia are Rhodesian, or part of the Southern African Confederacy, or SAC. At the current time, combat troops are not needed.

However, support in non-combat roles are certainly appreciated. The Rhodesian Military, and the joint military venture of the SAC are expecting that during the COIN operations, many innocent people are dispersed, and like all human conflict, casualties are expected. The military is doing the best they can to minimize as much damage as they can and to capture the ZANU without much fighting, but nothing is guaranteed, and it would be wise to prepare for the worst.

If your nation is interested in deployment to Rhodesia, we could use support in medical and humanitarian missions. In the rural parts of Rhodesia, food security is unfortunately still an ongoing issue, something the ZANU have been known to take advantage of. The Rhodesian government shall help to securely give out food and medical attention during and after the offensive, and international aid is welcomed. The offensives planned will displace a small amount of the rural population, so camps may need to be established. Therefore, we would appreciate assistance in the form of civilian and military medical units, military engineers, civilian aid services, and an armed contingent to aid and protect the Bendicion contingent.

Any support we ask of you are simply precautionary measures, in case the offensive does not go as planned. We are not expecting massive casualties or mass displacement, but then again so were so many more African nations that have crumbled before us. We appreciate support just in case.

In closing, I appreciate your support, and I hope to conduct further business with you in the future. Si a hamba!

Makasa Barakas
President of the Rhodesian State

Email from the Front

Postby The Rhodesian State » Mon Dec 22, 2014 1:02 am

The following is an encrypted email sent from the front. This is the personal dialogue from First Lieutenant Mkanga Djuwenne, a platoon leader on the Hwange Front. Lieutenant Djuwenne, in charge of 1st Platoon(Horsemen), A Troop, 1-12th BCT, is in charge of a cavalry detachment deployed near the Hwange National Park. Lt. Djuwenne was one of the first troops to move into the forest in pursuit of ZANU rebels. This account is addressed to his father, and censored to protect his personal information. This is his account:

UNCLASSIFIED

Dad,

Today was one of the longest days I've ever had. We've been chasing the ZANU for almost two years now, and today we cornered them. I've been up since yesterday mission planning, rehearsing, prepping my troops for this move. Since we fixed their camp locations a few weeks ago, we've been observing and preparing, listening to their radios, waiting for this day. I can still feel the adrenaline surging through my body, the high of battle still in the air, the din of gunfire ringing my ears still.

Today is the first day for lasting peace in Zimbabwe.

I know the offensive has been on the news lately, so I should start by saying that everyone is okay. I know you want me to tell the truth about these things, so I'll tell you all I can. It's only day one and around the country they're falling back beyond the border. We pushed into the forest today, and the vast majority of them fled without a fight. Those we have come into contact with, Horsemen have been pushing back. A few times where it got hairy or dodgey, but in all a success.

However, that isn't to say everything went okay. Though most fled, some put up a fight, and how. We we're one of the first in, meaning we we're one of the first to get hit. We've only stopped shooting a couple hours ago, from an operations that's supposed to take far less. Two of my men were wounded, one has to go to Bulawayo for treatment. We can get close air support, artillery, or para-troops since we fight in the Hwanga, though that may change. We're so tired, and we have to keep driving on. In all, they got plenty of lickings, so we keep driving on.

Lt.Col. Gulaya is impressed with me, he said so himself after we stormed through a ZANU complex. He keeps saying that he would like to have me on his staff once my Platoon Leadership time is up, that I would make a nice commander one day, or something. It's nice to have the Battalion CO on my side, but I care more about if my troops respect me, or if I'm making the right decisions. And hell, if working at your firm in Unara doesn't pan out, I'll always have that. I've been pretty right so far in my leadership, I just pray it stays that way.

Dad I don't want you to worry. The whole Hwange is expected to be in government control by tomorrow or Tuesday, with only sporadic fighting. By going on the offensive here, we save from going defensive later. Some pray for peace, others that we destroy our enemy. Me personally, I just pray I can make the right decisions and save us from disaster.

I don't want you to worry, and I'll keep you posted when more events follow. I love you Dad, Mama too, I hope to see you soon! I can't wait until this deployment is over and I can get some of Mama's fried plantains! This should be over quick, I promise.

Your favorite and only son,

Kanga
(First Lieutenant Mkanga Djuwenne)

Below is a picture I took of me a couple days ago on the troop line, just before we went into the forest. Sgt Brehmer, the one I was talking about who smokes three cigarettes at a time, is in the background.
