Tropical rainforests cover the hills, while elephant grass and semi-deciduous forests make up the dominant vegetation in the northern sections. The equatorial climate is hot year-round with heavy rainfall from May to October with a short interlude in mid-July to August. During the winter months of November to March, dry dust-laden harmattan winds blow inland, causing many problems for residents.

This is the main coastal province near the capital, and includes two other cities, Bhang Boro and Williamstown, as well as a large number of small villages and shantytowns. It is the main hub of geological survey being down by the Blue Islands Trading Company and Fabian Geophysical Survey.

The Land
The land is mainly alluvial soils, primarily clay, washed seaward from the streams and rivers of the interior valleys. In the lowlands on the coast grow palm trees, mangrove woods, and savanna grasslands with tropical forest covering the interior hills and valleys. Rivers include the St. Agatha, Nonsado, Pu, and Gro.

Demographics
-By Religion: 70% Christian, 25% Shia Muslim, 5% Other.
- By Tribe: Kavo 52%, Daham 20%, Barbo 18%, others 10%
- Due to extreme poverty and as a result of Edomite charity 22% live in rent free housing. 25% are still considered at risk for famine.

Government
The Dengali Presidency directly controls the Province through a Governor. Counties are held by Provosts and Districts by Chiefdoms or Mayors. There are 950 Provincial Police in the Province distributed throughout the area according to population. There is a Provincial High Court, County Courts and District Magistrates.

Economy
The county contains the most and the largest markets in the entire country. Often consumer goods are sold out of wheelbarrows and old intermodal containers. Markets include daily markets, primarily for food, and weekly markets.

Due to a lack of formal employment, many engage in informal businesses and trading. The largest employers are New Edomite companies, the New Edomite Government and the Central Government. Outside of this self employment is most common. Unemployment is still high, though far lower than some other provinces.

Agriculture is small part of economy, with the main crops consisting of cassava (90% of all crops), rice (16%), other vegetables (18%), corn (16%), sweet potatoes or eddoes (8%), plantain or bananas (8%), and pulses (1%). Livestock is mainly pigs, chickens, and ducks. Commercial crops grown include cocoa, coconuts, sugarcane, pineapple, kola nuts, palm oil, and rubber. Some palm oil is produced on government owned farms.

Rubber plantations are located in the province and the resource is exploited largely by the Blue Islands Trading Company. Overall rubber production accounts for eight percent of household income in the County. Small scale mineral extraction occurs for gold and diamonds. Other resource extraction activities include logging and fishing

The Central Bank is located in Josiastown. The main port is the Freeport of Josiastown, the country's busiest port. The port has one wharf and four piers, though one pier cannot be used due to a sunken ship.[10] Air travel available at the Carmel Airport in Josiastown and Kingfisher International Airport in Williamstown. Limited public transportation is available in the capital via the Josiastown Transit Authority. Passenger and freight rail service is available from the private company associated with Blue Islands Trading Co.

Education
35% of the country's students are in this county. About 2,00 students are currently enrolled at high school and college level. The University of Saint Stephen is located in Josiastown.

Services
The Dengali Water and Sewer Corporation provides water to some parts of the county. here are approximately 13,000 wells in the county and 518 hand pumps. In health care, the county has eight hospitals, nine health centers, and approximately 93 medical clinics functioning as of 2008. The County has limited access to electricity, with the majority of power being generated by privately owned generators. The county is not served by any public communications, though cellular communications are available through four private companies.

Culture
The Kavo, the largest group in the area, are predominantly farmers, though many have also emigrated to the larger towns and cities due to poverty and need to find useful work. They are a polygamous people and the family is focused around a man, his wives, and the children they have. Complex clans exist with chiefs at the head.

The Daham are perhaps a more complex people than the Kavo, with highly decorated masks worn for ceremonial purposes, secret societies, and practice polygamy and female circumcision. Dancing is also important to them, as is education, with the result that the Daham, though less populous than the Kayo, form a larger majority of educated people and political leaders in the country. They have more lawyers, police, politicians, doctors and scholars than any other tribal group in the country. Among the rural population neck rings are still used though they are disfavored by urban Daham, who pride themselves on emulating New Edomite culture.

Most Muslims in Durogo Province are Barbo tribespeople. Some are still traditional coastal pirates or bandits, but most are craftsmen, herdsmen, musicians, fishermen. They are patrilineal and patriarchal, and have a caste system with nobles, priests and peasants. Belief in secret societies mingles with Shia beliefs.

A lowland province located south of Durogo along the coast. It is a fairly large province, but sparsely populated. The provincial capital is Zanthor, located along the main road that winds down the coast, with the remainder of settlements being small coastal towns and rural villages inland. The Shrailleeni-built port of Dressanna is also located here, and is currently considered to be under joint Shrailleeni-Dengali ownership.

The Land
The land is mostly lowland rainforest, with some grassland in the north near the Durogo border. Nearer the coast are palm and mangrove forests. The soil quality is very poor, and difficult to grow. There are no major rivers, but some lakes exist in the interior where groundwater levels are high.

Demographics (Non-Dressanna)
-By Religion: 44% Christian, 36% Animist, 16% Shia Muslim, 2% Mother Goddess Worship, 2% Other.
- By Tribe: Malora 28%, Murusu 25%, Kavo 19%, Bardo 16%, Other 12%
- Due to extreme poverty and as a result of Shrailleeni charity 26% live in rent free housing. 31% are still considered at risk for famine.

Demographics (Dressanna)
-Total Population: 15,342
-By Religion: 88% Mother Goddess Worship, 9% Animist, 3% Christian
-By Ethnicity: 86% Shrailleeni Ethnicities, 11% Malora, 3% Other

Government
The Dengali Presidency directly controls the Province through a Governor. Counties are held by Provosts and Districts by Chiefdoms or Mayors. There are 380 Provincial Police in the Province distributed throughout the area according to population. There is a Provincial High Court, some County Courts and District Magistrates. The majority of the population is ruled by rural village governments associated with the Chiefdoms.

Dressanna is legally considered to be joint run by the Shrailleeni Empire and by the Governor of Marbidi. The Shrailleeni-appointed Queen of Dressanna runs most of the internal affairs, in conjunction with the Dengali Mayor who serves as the government’s representative in Dressannan affairs. While Zanthor is the seat of provincial government, several key services are run out of Dressanna, including the Shrailleeni Royal Guard forces that supplement the Provincial Police.

Economy
Most of the economy centers around the province’s traditional function as a route of travel between Durogo and the other provinces along the southern coast. The road along the coasts is dotted with towns which offer services to passing travelers. Due to a lack of most formal employment, a great deal of the economy is dominated by informal business and trading. The largest employers are the Shrailleeni government, which hires locally for most of its projects, and New Edomite companies. The Central Government makes up a trailing third. Unemployment is very high, and most of the interior is dominated by subsistence farming.

Agriculture is a small part of economy, and relatively undeveloped. The main crops are cassava, rice, other vegetables, and plantain or bananas. Livestock is mainly pigs, chickens, and ducks. Commercial crops grown include cocoa, coconuts, kola nuts, palm oil, and rubber, all to a limited extent. Other resource extraction activities include logging, and large fishing sector centered on the coastal towns.

The recently constructed port of Dressanna is the first and only large port available in the province. The port has one wharf and five piers, but activity is restricted mainly to Shrailleeni shipping due to the presence of more profitable and populous ports to the north. Public transportation in Dressanna and a rail line to Zanthor are supplied by the Shrailleeni government. Limited public transportation is available in the capital. Passenger and freight rail service along the coast is available from the private company associated with Blue Islands Trading Co.

Education
Marbidi lacks any kind of university education, most students travel to the capital to attend. However, the Shrailleeni Empire has spent a great deal of resources and money on improving the standard of primary education, in an initiative dubbed “Future Light.” A training program in Dressanna exists to train a number of Dengali educators, and 380 small schools have been constructed across the province. In towns the schools occupy their own building, in the interior they are spaced to allow easy access from a number of surrounding villages. Books and other materials are supplied by the Shrailleeni. While Shrailleeni-run for the moment, the schools are not religious in nature and have met with general success and goodwill from the population. The schools do not divide students by tribe, and this has caused some small tensions.

Services
The Dengali Water and Sewer Corporation provides water to some parts of the county, mainly along the coast. There are nearly 7,000 wells in the county and 389 hand pumps. In health care, the county has only three hospitals, two located in the capital and one in Dressanna. Seven health centers exist, four of which are Shrailleeni operated. The Shrailleeni Empire has also spent a great deal of effort on supplying medical clinics, especially in the rural areas. Nearly 80 have been constructed in the past months, bringing basic healthcare to areas where it had never before existed.

The County has almost no access to electricity, with the majority of power being generated by privately owned generators. Dressanna’s power is stable, and the city is supplied by a coal-fired plant near the outskirts. Discussions have been made for some of the power generated by the Shrailleeni plant to be directed along the coastal towns. The county is not served by any public communications, except for the dedicated lines in Dressanna.

Culture
Most of Marbidi is dominated by the Malora and Murusu peoples, who form over half of the population.

The Malora are a traditionalist people, who practice the Animist religion of their ancestors. They are largely rural, living in small villages in the interior and practicing hunting to supplement small farming. They are polygamous and patriarchal, with each village headed by a chief, but also reserve a special place for women in their religious duties and ceremonies. Many Malora have begun migrating to the coast looking for work in Zanthor and Dressanna, and Malora make up most of Dressanna’s non-Shrailleeni population.

The Murusu are a Christian people, having converted through the efforts of Edomite missionaries some time ago. They are traditionally rivals of the Malora, though the two have only rarely come to blows. There are many Murusu villages in the interior, but also large communities in the towns along the coast. They are a reserved, hard-working people proud of their heritage and faith. Song is especially important to them, especially group singing, and communal choirs are commonly heard in Murusu areas.

The Kavo are a minority in the province, and are located mostly in the capital and in the north. They are predominantly farmers, though many have also emigrated to the larger towns and cities due to poverty and need to find useful work. They are a polygamous people and the family is focused around a man, his wives, and the children they have. Complex clans exist with chiefs at the head.

Most Muslims in Marbidi Province are Barbo tribespeople. Some are still traditional coastal pirates or bandits, but most are craftsmen, herdsmen, musicians, fishermen. They are patrilineal and patriarchal, and have a caste system with nobles, priests and peasants. Belief in secret societies mingles with Shia beliefs.

Relations with other provinces
Durogo and the capital are located on the northern coastal border. Kavoland borders Marbidi to the north and east, and is also patrolled and held by New Edomite forces in the area. To the east and south lie other provinces of Dengali, farther along the coast.

Republic of Dahamy: The Basics

Capital: Port d'Azur
Official Languages: French
Demonym: Dahamais
Government: Semi-Presidential Republic
-Prime Minister: Gerard Delorme
-President: Romain Roché
Legislature: Assemblée Nationale, Senate
Independence: 1951 from L'Osienne
Population: 800,000
Ethnic Groups: Ossiennais 10%, Creole 40%, 45% Various Ethnicities, 5% Vatani
Religion(s): Roman Catholicism 90%, Islam 6%, Traditional beliefs 4%
GDP (nominal)
-Total: NS$ 4 Billion
-Per Capita: NS$ 5,100
Currency: Dahamy oss

The Economy

Dahamy's economy is largely concentrated in the service sector. Commercial activities revolve around the country's free trade policies and strategic location as a transit point on the eastern coast of Acheron. Due to limited rainfall, vegetables and fruits serve as the principal production crops, and other food items require importation. The GDP (nominal) in 2014 was estimated at NS$4 billion, with a real growth rate between 5%-6% annually. Per capita income is around NS$5,100 (nominal). The services sector constituted around 76% of the GDP, followed by industry at 18%, and agriculture at 6%.

As of 2014, the container terminal at the Port d’Azur handles the bulk of the nation's trade. About 70% of the seaport's activity consists of imports to and exports from neighboring Nalaya and L'Ossienne. The port also serves as an international refueling center and transshipment hub. The Dahamais government in collaboration with Dafax has started construction on a new container terminal, a third major seaport intended to further develop the national transit capacity. The project has the capacity to accommodate 2 million twenty foot container units annually.

History & Culture

In 1662 Ossiennais merchants established the trading post of Port d'Azur on the coast of Dahamy. In the following centuries, Catholic missionaries and colonists from L'Ossienne established missions and several small settlements in Dahamy. The Ossiennais colonist and traders remained content to leave the locals to their own devices in large part to avoid drawing too much attention from the Cornellian Empire.

When the Cornellian Empire was collapsing in the middle of the 19th century, L'Ossienne officially declared Dahamy a colony and then a region of L'Ossienne proper in quick succession. L'Ossienne administered Dahamy as overseas region for the next century. In 1951, following a popular referendum, Dahamy was declared an independent republic with full support of the Ossiennais government.

Centuries of interaction with L'Ossienne has produced a nation that is largely Roman Catholic and French speaking. French is the official language of government and is primary and native language of more than 90% of the population. Roman Catholicism is the dominant religious denomination with 90% of the population claiming it as their faith.

The culture of Dahamy has been heavily influenced by that of L'Ossienne. Ossiennais culture has blended with local traditions to form something that is at the same time very much Ossiennais and also very unique. One prime example of Ossiennais cultural influence can be seen in the Dahamais school system which is modeled almost exclusively on the Ossiennais model.

Government and Administration

The government of Dahamy follows a semi-presidential model nearly identical to that of L'Ossienne. The president of the republic is the executive head of state and is elected every five years by direct universal suffrage. The Senate and the Assemblée nationale comprise the parliament of Dahamy. The Senate is the upper house of parliament and is indirectly elected. The The lower house is the Assemblée Nationale and it is directly elected. Members of the Senate are elected to six year terms while members of the Assemblée Nationale are elected to five year terms.

Dahamy is divided into five administrative regions and one city. The city of Port d'Azur is the capital of Dahamy and is most populous of the administrative subdivisions with a population of 625,000.

Military

The military of Dahamy consists of the Air Force, The National Army, Costal Navy, and the National Gendarmerie.

The Army consists of 8,000 regular personnel and has historically focused its equipment purchases on mobility. In last few years it has signed a contract to purchase a small number of AMX-40 variants from L'Ossienne which incorporate technologies and systems developed for the Leclerc. This purchase has been made to give the Dahamais army greater capability when engaging modern armored targets.

The Navy has 1,000 regular personnel.

The Air Force consists of 300 regular personnel

L'Ossienne has and Overseas Interarms Regiment stationed in the Dahamy.

Dahamy and L'Ossienne have defense agreement and while not a member of the NCTO, Dahamy has agreements with the organization that allows it to use it's port and and air facilities.

International Relations

Nalaya

Relations with Nalaya fluctuated quite often while its larger neighbor was still fighting its civil war. The government and people of Dahamy were very wary of their much larger neighbor and relations almost always dipped when the Nalayan civil war spilled across the border. Following the end of the Nalayan civil war, relations between Dahamy and Nalaya warmed and trade between the two nations grew rapidly. Despite the warming in relations though, Dahamy is still wary of its border with Nalaya and remains focused on keeping unwanted border crossings to a minimum.

It is also important to note that during the Nalayan civil war, Dahamy took in small numbers of refugees from Nalaya.

Dengali

The history of relations between Dahamy and Dengali is long and has often included bloodshed. Prior to the arrival of Ossiennais traders, settlers, and merchants in the 1650s and up until the L'Ossienne took over administration in the 1850s, tribal warfare was relatively common. With incorporation of Dahamy into L'Ossienne and the stationing of an Ossiennais garrison in Dahamy, tribal warfare across the border became far less common. This did entirely prevent it though.

During the colonial period, there were a number of small skirmishes between Ossiennais forces stationed in Dahamy and the colonial forces present in Dahamy. None of the skirmishes led to large scale conflict. The Ossiennais garrison was the largest colonial garrison in the Dahamy-Dengali area and was able to easily defend against the larger number of smaller, and often at odds, forces from the numerous nations vying for control of Dengali.

Following independence in 1951, Dahamy has often had to deal with extremists, smugglers, and armed tribal militias attempting to cross its border with Dengali. These, the continued presence of colonial forces in Denagli , and several other reasons have helped to create lukewarm relations between the two neighbors. The presence of an Ossiennais army regiment in Dahamy has served to deter any large scale conflicts between the nations since Dahamy's independence.

Like with Nalaya, Dahamy has in the past taken in small numbers refugees from Dengali and will likely do so again in the likely event of conflict in Dengali.

From a World Assembly Report on Hatim Tahmid Ajam

General Ajam was a born to a poor farming Kavo farming family and was raised on the family farm until he was taken at the age of seven by Maurice Ambama, a provincial warlord, at which point he started his life as a child soldier. Despite initial hatred of his new life, the General was eventually desensitized from the violence and quickly rose in the ranks as a man without an ideology who was willing to do anything to secure his own agenda.

When he had reached the age of seventeen Ambama was killed in combat, opening the path of Hatiim to seize power, and became a fine warlord in his own right. However, Ajam did not desire to be a mighty and brutal man, rather he hoped to improve the areas he already held. Ajam's lax nature ensured that the populace greatly preferred him over previous warlords and ensured some degree of loyalty.

The self-styled General would maintain peaceful power until the Cookish invasion of Dengali, at which point he took up hit and run attacks in an attempt to slow Cookish advance and prevent occupation. Eventually, New Edom armies arrived to "assist" against the Cookes, however the Edomites were less than friendly towards a provincial warlord- forcing the General to fight against both New Edom and the Cookish States. Though he was eventually forced to flee, hiding among the Kavo farmers and also among friends in the Barbo groups.

The General eventually had to flee Dengali in the face of lack of Cookish and other foreign support to neighboring Dahamy, where he took up residence in a border province. He spent some time as a mercenary soldier. In 2013 he returned to Dahamy and established a power base of exiles, mercenaries, brigands and tribal groups that had been fighting for land space on either side of the border. He launched numerous covert raids into Dengali to secure needed materials but also to establish different local policies from protection rackets to local alliances.

In the face of rising Matriarchal influences from Deadora and the Shrailleeeni Empire, he very publicly converted to Apostolic Christianity, specifically a rather Charismatic approach to it where he wept in public and spoke in tongues. Some WA and journalist sources have speculated that he obtained secret support from the New Edomite Council Police as a source of local intelligence and as an ace in the whole, but such rumours are unfortunately not credibly substantiated

Tabora Province, North Dengali

Northern Dengali's natural landscape is a forest-savanna mosaic-covered plateaus and plains (altitude between 20 and 200 m (66 and 656 ft)), which are split by valleys running north to south along the Uffo, Dou, and Ame Rivers.

The Province's savanna is covered with thorny scrubs and dotted with huge baobab trees. Some forests line the banks of rivers. In the 1960s tourists would come to see animals such as wild apes, antelopes, lions, and megafauna.

Approximately 62,000 people lived in the province. The two largest cities were West Lova (24 695) and East Lova (16 434) with the rest of the population divided among small towns and villages. The cities were largely producers of agricultural goods but were poor. Only the wealthy tended to have indoor plumbing and electricity. Disease was a problem. Services were largely provided through the 'protection services' of the government, though General Ajam had given at least nominal titles to his subordinates like Minister of the Interior, Director of Sanitation and so on.

To outsiders, the northern province was ruled by a warlord, General Ajam. This was inaccurate; the province was divided into districts controlled by various minor warlords; he was merely the most powerful of them. Most of them paid protection to him, but some were on the side of the national government, others served other masters. Raiding, fighting over control were common in small scale skermishes.

Most of these forces had some resources; they mostly had assault rifles and a few machineguns, some heavy weapons here and there (grenade launchers, rocket launchers, mortars perhaps), and motorized vehicles, mostly trucks, land rovers, jeeps and other soft skinned vehicles with a few armoured elements added on. General Ajam had a small fleet of gun trucks, a mortar battery, some heavy machineguns, rocket launchers, and even some D30 towed howitzers. He had a secret stash of MANPADs as well.

Major Events

1. The Attack on the Power Plant: the apparently attack on a Deadoran power plant by terrorists who were sent supposedly by the warlord Ajam, provoking a Deadoran response.

2. The Dengali government's response: (The Dengali ambassador speaks to the New Edomite foreign ministry about their position.)

3. The Shrailleeni response: (the Shrailleeni Empire's overseas territory, Dressana, and the response of its leadership to the terrorist attack)

As discussed with New Edom and Deadora over telegram and IRC, I would like to provide Deadora with small-scale logistic and military support in this conflict, starting with diplomacy and moving on to weapons shipments and possibly a small-scale military deployment.

I would like to say that Allanea has abruptly informed me, without explanation, of leaving this rp and the related purge thread. All involvement on his part and that of his ally in the purge is retconned. Thank you.

As per discussions with New Edom and some of you on IRC, this is the Hutanjian contribution to the Edomite and allied war effort in Dengali. They will be disembarking from Nevorn, Hutanjia in a Hutanjian Navy convoy, with lead elements airlifted from Jotaku, Chastille, Nevorn, HUT. Timeline wise, this is directly after the Hutanjian/Card Civil War. They will be under Edomite command and part of the greater New Edom ORBAT of forces in the Dengali theater of operations. Politically they are fully behind the nation that they see as their saviors and any enemy of New Edom will be dealt with ruthlessly and expeditiously, should they be committed to battle.

Hey folks. I was talking to Deadora about r/l difficulties he is facing, and in order to support him I would like with his agreement through telegram, to do the following.

First, I am going to wait to find out if his life has changed for the better before even discussing this thread continuing beyond its current point. I hope he does come back to the game, but I mostly hope his life starts getting better.

Second in order to have the rest of us deal with our own NS stuff, it is on a particular kind of hiatus. Essentially we assume that there is no war and that negotiations between New Edom, the Shrailleeni Empire and Deadora went alright with something resembling the Shrailleeni compromise accepted. This doesn't mean we can never have a war or have things go south, but we presume that there are no further committments militarily beyond those presently in this OOC thread, and that no particular major military actions take place, that it is low intensity brushfire stuff at the moment. This enables the rest of us to keep going in other threads without worrying about the outcome of this one.

For Hutanjia: as you are just entering it, I hope you will find it okay to keep your part in it on hiatus under the circumstances. If you would like we can discuss how to refer to your troops--perhaps they might be in New Edom training or in Dengali getting acclimatized, or we can do something else if you prefer.

I agree, I think that will work best for everyone involved. I was toying with the idea of maybe doing Ryan's interview, or otherwise something that doesn't necessarily move any major plotline forward.

Sure, no problem. I'm good with whatever. Keep em in reserve, do training ops, help in another war, send em home. You tell me. I will finish up my post in the Hutanjian war thread.
I hope Deadora feels better.
