Ever since the dawn of man, people have looked to the starry night sky with a sense of wonder. As we grew in our understanding and power over the world around us, we reached ever higher. From the building of the pyramids, to the first skyscrapers, to the first flight, we have reached for the stars, wanting to see a world beyond our own. Then came Sputnik, then came Gagarin, then came Apollo, all bringing humanity to its rightful place in the heavens. But for every Apollo, there was a Challenger, every Hubble, a Columbia. Eventually, humanity fell back down to Earth, denying its destiny to become masters of the world around them.
Earth would fall silent for the next few hundred years, as disasters plagued the isolated earth. Limited Nuclear Warfare bringing about climate change, severe overpopulation and drought leading to famine. Resources dwindled as humanity turned on itself, plunging itself into a new dark age. In humanity's darkest hour, they again turned to that starry night, remembering the greatness that awaited them beyond the stratosphere.
It was then that we fought our way back into the heavens, clawing our way skyward. On the wings of corporations, cults, and nations, we place our final hopes. We sent out hundreds, nay, thousands of colony ships to any world within our grasp. Every one of them loaded with men, women, and children hoping to keep the torch of humanity lit on a world that is not our own. Will they allow old feuds to cloud this new world, or will they strive to overcome the alien environment, and bring about a new humanity?
It is up to you, the leader of your colony, to decide the fate of humanity in this brave new world.
