Olwean ranks of nobility -- and their modern government-title equivalencies (similar responsibilities, for ranks that have responsibilities) -- are as follows:

Emperor/Empress (President/Prime Minister): The rulers of Olwe hold this title, and are highest among the nobility.
Prince/Princess: A child of the Emperor and/or Empress. People born out of wedlock and/or to other partners still have this title, as Olwean marriages are open.
Prince Father/Princess Mother: A person who has fathered or mothered a Prince or Princess. They are placed below their children in the line of succession.
Prince/Princess Consort: A person who is in a long-term, but childless romantic relationship with the Emperor and/or (they like to share) Empress.
Grand Duke/Grand Duchess (Governor): Ruler of an Olwean territory (such as, for example, a planet we've annexed).
Duke/Duchess: Overseer of several (sometimes up to a dozen) cities/towns... usually there are between 2 and 5 of these serving under each Grand Duke/Duchess.
Count/Countess: Overseer of a few (usually around 5) cities/towns... there are usually 2 of these serving under each Duke/Duchess.
Baron/Baroness: Overseer of 2 or 3 cities/towns... there are usually 2 of these serving under each Count/Countess.
Earl (Mayor): Overseer of a single city or town. Usually there are 2 or 3 of these serving under each Baron/Baroness.
Knight: Someone who has accomplished something great enough to be made nobility, but either didn't qualify for or didn't want a higher rank than this. Responsibilities are usually ceremonial in nature, unless the knight in question is active-duty military.

There is no nobility in the usual sense in Sidh society. There are, however, certain titles of honour bestowed upon prominent individuals for their service to the Imperium.

Emperor/Empress - self-explanatory; Reserved for the monarch of all Sidhae, the office of Emperor/Empress is monarchical in name only, effectively being one of an elected dictator-for-life by all practical terms.

The Twelve are the 12 commanders of the Imperial Guard legions, the most veteran and decorated officers of the Imperial armed forces and the monarch's closest associates. Many of the current members of the Twelve are contemporaries of the Emperor, being among the oldest and most experienced Sidhae still alive. An individual member of the Twelve can be referred to as Haetairos/Haetaira, Sidh for Companion, denoting his/her status as the monarch's personal companion.

Hand of the Emperor - the second most powerful Sidh in the Imperium behind the monarch, the Hand is the monarch's second-in-command. His most important duty is to assume control of the Imperium as a regent during the monarch's temporary absence (such as illness or personal leave), or during the interregnum between death/retirement of the previous monarch and the election of a new one. Obviously, only the most trusted retainers can hope to attain such a position of power. The title of Hand has so far only been awarded to one holder, Archistrategos J.K. Lanthaus, commander of the 1st Guard Legion and the Emperor's contemporary. Astr. Lanthaus is also the eldest member of the Twelve and the oldest known Sidh alive.

Sword of the Emperor - awarded to the High Commander of the Army. In times of relative peace, when military operations remain regional and Army legions can operate relatively independently, this title is largely honorary. In times of general mobilization, it would designate the most senior officer of the Army who would have command authority Imperium-wide. Currently held by Archistrategos A. Drax, commander of the Alpha Legion.

Hammer of the Emperor - awarded to the High Commander of the Navy. Same rules as with the above title apply. Currently held by Grand Admiral T. S. Vraak, commander of the 1st "Black" Armada.

Shield of the Emperor - awarded to the High Commander of the Auxilia. Currently held by Archistratega J. Dayan.

Eye of the Emperor - awarded to the Grand Master of the Order of Judicators. Currently held by Grand Master A. Visari.

Scourge of the Emperor - awarded to the High Precentor of Domestic Security. Currently held by High Precentor I. Atreides.

Archon/Archoness - a title of office bestowed to the ruler of an entire sector of the Imperium.

Lord/Lady Castellan - a honorary title bestowed upon long-serving commanders of strategically-important military installations, such as starbases, military worlds or strongholds. One must have successfuly defended the said installation from repeated attack by a superior enemy to be eligible for the title.

Lord/Lady - a honorary title bestowed upon planetary and system governors, ministers and civilian members of the General Assembly. Also may be bestowed upon ordinary citizens who have elevated themselves to distinction by exceptional service to the Imperium.

Cupbearer - in keeping with an ancient tradition from times when poisoning was a frequent cause of death among kings, a trusted member of the monarch's retinue is awarded with this honorary title. His/her duties involve personally serving the monarch drinks on festive occasions, such as formal banquets, and maintaining the monarch's liquor stocks. Although being poisoned is a negligible risk for the Sidh monarch today, the cupbearer is still required to fill his drink from the same bottle served to the monarch. The title is never held by any single Sidh for longer than a year.
Freedom doesn't mean being able to do as one please, but rather not to do as one doesn't please.

A fool sees religion as the truth. A smart man sees religion as a lie. A ruler sees religion as a useful tool.

Emperor/Empress
Supreme lord of Satzland, the Emperor is considered as the head of the Nobility. Satzland is today a semi Constitutional Parliamentary Empire, such as the Emperor only plays the role of a normal President backed by the Parliament.

-Emperor/Empress: There is only one, plus the consort

-Archduke/Archduchess: Members of the Habsburg family have this title.

King/Queen

Grand Duke/Grand Duchess

Duke/Duchess

Prince/Princesss: Sovereign ones, not members of a certain family. Sometimes they are Prince-Electors

Count/Countess

Margrave/Marquess

Baron/Baroness (Freiherr or Freiin in German)

Lord/Lady, usually these are knighthood equivalents, sometimes hereditary knighthood. Each state has slightly different knighthood customs.

Sidh: if you're at all interested, the feminine version of archon should be archusa if derived from Greek (ἄρχων, ἄρχουσα, ἄρχον), such as archon is.

There are two systems of nobility in Themiclesia: the state aristocracy and the peerage. Those two things are separate; the aristocracy is connected to official power, but the nobility isn't, rather to social standing. The underlying circumstances that occasioned this convoluted system are complex, best left unexplored. The aristocracy is the government of a state, and is composed of a ruler, his officials, and their retainers, for three broader ranks in total; in reality, the two lower ranks can be subdivided into levels of seniority.
    Ruler - wanax
    Minister - kyo
    Higher Official - hyoluga
    Intermediate Official - dyoluga
    Junior Official - haluga
    Knight
    Esquire
    Gentleman

The peerage refer to the relative standing of the rulers of all the states. Each ruler, in addition to his position of ruler of his state, holds a rank in the peerage.
    Oregs (king)
Duke (heir apparent who defers in favour of another heir the succession is created a duke; he enjoys all the honours and prerogatives to which he would be entitled had he chosen to succeed, except the title of 'king'; they are entitled to the style your grace, shared with the king, and six-horse carriages, akin to the king's allotments. There are currently 4 ducal titles in existence.)
    Marquis (highest title granted)
    Count
    Viscount
    Baron
Baronet (technically not part of the peerage and not entitled to a seat in the house of lords, but still treated otherwise as a peer; there are more baronets than all the other peers combined)

The most senior ruler is called the oregs in Themiclesia; only one oregs is permitted to exist, and he is the first of all rulers. Consequently, he is called "king" in English, but through the dignity of "king" he is not in a class all by himself. He is still a ruler of a state, and within the same peerage in which all other rulers are. Themiclesia therefore has no "royal family" above the peerage in the British sense. As a special honour, however, the king is permitted to have other rulers serve at his court as his subordinate, though, in terms of dignity, the king is not above the other rulers.

If the peerage could be alluded to an exclusive club, the king is its president. The dukes are the most senior members less the king; the marquises, the third, etc. If someone beneath the peerage visits the king, he will be addressed by his aristocratic rank, like dyoluga A. B., and is akin to a visitor to the club.

A third related system is the government of each state. Certain posts, such as chancellor (or "club secretary"), are sometimes hereditary, but in all cases filled by aristocrats of a certain rank, such as hyoluga. Other posts are open to persons of all origins.

There is the Supreme Chairman, the Party, the Commoners and the Enemies.
Although, none of those are nobility. That was abolished over a century ago, thanks to the Revolution. Extremely few of the former Soledan nobility are still alive today (about 50), and none of them claim any titles, in exception of Duka Urulus, an old idiot who claims to be the rightful Tzar of the Soledan realms, even though he has been living in Brazil the entirety of his life.

Ironcrown is a consolidation of many independent kingdoms, grand duchies, duchies , and principalities into a unitary, federated state. Therefore the titles of nobility are complex and confusing to many outsiders. Here it is broken down in simplest of terms.

Kaiser
Hochadel -
The Hochadel are the upper elite of nobility who reign within the empire.
King (König)
Grand Duke (Großherzog)
Grand Prince (Großfürst)
Duke/Markgraf/Landgraf (Herzog)
Prince (Fürst)

Niederer Adel -
The Niederer Adel are the nobility who hold no territory to govern and reign however.
Crown Prince (Kronprinz)
Prince (Prinz)
Burggraf
Altgraf
Count (Graf)
Baron (Freiherr)
Knight (Ritter)
Edler
Junker

The heirs to sovereigns or to headship of mediatised families prefixed their title by Erb-, meaning Hereditary. For instance, the heir to a Grand Duke is titled Erbgroßherzog or simply Erbprinz, meaning Hereditary Grand Duke. A sovereign duke's heir was Erbprinz (Hereditary Prince) and a prince's (Fürst) heir might be titled Erbprinz or Erbgraf ("Hereditary Prince", "Hereditary Count"). The prefix distinguished the heir from similarly titled junior siblings.
HI&M Adolf II, By the Grace of God, Kaiser under the Iron Crown, King of the Eisenlands, Markgraf of the Baltas, Grand Prince of Katzinburg, Count of Königsberg, etc. etc. etc.

Emperor/Empress - Typically denotes the ruler of the Empire of Allied Connurist States, but can denote the spouse of an Emperor/Empress too (who may or may not have any power)

Son/Daughter of the Emperor/Empress (SOTE/DOTE goes before name) - Denotes that a particular individual is the son/daughter of an Emperor/Empress, but it is merely a title and grants no power - succession isn't always hereditary. It is used for easy referral to the particular people in question - so that it need not be reiterated whether the person is a child of the current or previous Emperor/Empress.

Legend of the Connurist Empire (LOTCE before name) - Denotes that a particular person is/was necessary to the existence of the Empire or has significantly improved it. Significantly harder to achieve than HOTCE. It has only been awarded on five occasions during the entirety of the Empire's existence and is a one-time award.

Hero of the Connurist Empire (HOTCE before name) - Denotes that a particular someone has achieved something outstanding and worthy of recognition. Reasons for awarding have ranged from military service, saving lives, creating legislation, making a superb contribution to literature, music or art and more. It can be awarded on multiple occasions - quite a few have earned multiple HOTCE titles.

Thanks for the info. Still, I think archoness is an appropriate approximation for the original Greek term in English, especially considering how Sidh language is likely considerably different from Greek or Latin.

Ranks of Nobility

Postby Parhe » Sat Nov 29, 2014 4:36 pm

Nobility is a mix of native Parhasque and Korean titles and those of the former Austrian Empire; Austrian noble titles were reformed following the return of monarchy in 1910.

Maripgan: The head of the House of Go-Han, also the Head of State and Government.

Eoraha: Crowned Heir of House of Go-Han.
Kaiser: Emperor, Head of House of Habsburg.
Maripxai: Spouse of the head of House of Go-Han. Maripgan and Maripxai are akin to Emperor and Empress but have no gender or sex connotations.
Pogukva: Former Maripgan, Maripxai, and/or parent, regardless of degree, of current Maripgan.

Isageum: Sibling of Maripgan
Je: Former Kaiser, Kaiserin, and/or parent, regardless of degree, of current Kaiser.
Kaiserin: Empress, Wife/Spouse of the head of House of Habsburg.
Milta/Minta: Child, regardless of degree, of Maripgan and Maripxai. Milta is refers to male while Minta refers to female.
Ringen: Crowned Heir of House of Habsburg.

Chusa: Ruling Regent for House of Go-Han.
Erzherzog/Erzherzogin: Sibling of Kaiser.
Furst/Furstin: Child, regardless of degree, of Kaiser and Kaiserin.
Tae: Sibling or parent, regardless of degree, of Maripxai.
Archduke/Archduchess: Illegitimate offspring of Maripgan or Kaiser.

Blood: Ruling Regent for House of Habsburg.
Baegun: Title granted to meritorious members of court and government. Unlike others, marriage outside of rank, even of nobility, is not uncommon.
Duke/Duchess: Other agnates of Imperial Habsburg Family and Go-Han Family.

Marquis/Margrave: Title for local monarchies that use various titles, such as the Panso of Amsal, or the Hyeonhu of Kent. The personal titles used are not strictly regulated, though it must not be disapproved of, if changed, by either the House of Habsburg or House of Go-Han, so as to prevent confusion. More often than not, titles used are native titles not used by the federal system, such as Hyeonhu, Panso, Gaegukja, or Taewang, this in no way being an exhaustive list. Their position is unclear and usually fluctuate between Tier Four and Tier Five.

The above, excluding Baegun, are all Korsapan, noble titles within the two main ruling Dynastic Houses of the Holy Parhic Empire. Discounting direct line of inheritance, every third generation of Isageum, Milta/Minta, Erzherzog/Erzherzogin, Furst/Furstin, Tae, Baegun, and Archduke/Archduchess are demoted to the status of Duke/Duchess, in theory permanently, unless the Maripgan intervenes. Blood and Chusa are lifelong titles and descendants revert to former titles.

Frauin: Largely are rural land owners whose estates are often used by the government for agricultural products. Historically similar to feudal lords and equivalent roughly to Counts. Last rank able to marry into the Dynastic Habsburgs and Go-Hans.
Viscount: The title is granted by the monarchy to meritorious citizens for private conduct; mainly self made industrialists and entrepreneurs originating from the mid sixteen hundreds to early nineteen hundreds. The title, an import from the western world, is relatively new and holds little difference from Frauin. It was mainly created as the Frauin families were unwilling to add such a large number of people into their ranks. Viscounts are only able to marry up to Marquis/Margrave.

Edler: The only title of nobility that may be granted by a Marquis or Margrave. Though generally recognized by the government and other members of nobility, the title is mostly honorary except in the realms where granted as well as other realms that accept associated benefits, usually on a case by case basis. The title is the lowest to be hereditary and have the same marriage limits as Viscounts.

Ritter: The lowest rank of nobility, it is given to those that served in the battlefields of nation's wars and is more honorary as a term. Ritter, equivalent to Knight, is the only title of nobility, excluding Baegun, that is non hereditary for any title; the offspring of knights are solely considered Chunin, the Middle Class politically, unless granted another title or the offspring of another member of non-Ritter nobility; Ritters may marry only up to Frauin.

Nobility of the Mind Empire

Postby Lotrabme » Sat Nov 29, 2014 5:23 pm

The Mind Empire is a pseudo-religious space-borne entity, with true power lying among the Arch-Dioci and the Dioci of the College of High Clerics (similar to Bishops and Arch Bishops), and among the Admiralty of the Armada.

However, familial divisions permeate three of the four civilized races of the Mind Empire* and their social system, setting them apart from others in standing and rank.

The Hamans are divided in the Unon upper class by the Houses they are members of. These extended genetic families can be rather large but have a series of principal leaders whom are looked to.

The Apostolic Houses stand above all other houses, the number of these being 13.
The Cadet Houses are those branched off or closely related to the Apostolics, there number is considerably larger
The Houses Minor are the greatest in number, of lesser nobility but still honorable to be a part of.
The Houses Plebii are the lowest houses, usually ascended

-Patriarch/Matriarch: The official leader of a house, the eldest, usually the progenitor, a wizened member with experience in years. These are revered often as psychic masters and tend to hold Diocesal rank, if not a Priory. They are considered above the status of Prince. The Apostolic Patriarchs are revered above all else.

-Prince/Princess: One or a group of principal leaders of the House, these will be considered in truth the highest rank one can attain, Patriarchy/Matriarchy being an honorific bestowed on a Prince of considerable age or worth. The Princes tend to have command over a considerable portion of the Houses wealth, and will usually enter the Armada or the Clergy. The Number of Princes per house is usually between 1 and 3, any higher and mismanagement tends to occur.

-Jarl: Usually close relatives of the Prince or members of the house with considerable power are bestowed a Jarldom, which usually consists of the management of a City-State, be it planetside or orbital. Diocii are most often Jarl's of cities in their Diocese. A Grand Jarl is often a very distinguished Jarl and usually one of the higher houses. Members of Houses Minor or Plebii may not always ascend to Princedom in some cases and are often relegated to having a Jarl or Grand Jarl as their chief retainer. In Apostolic Houses, there are usually between 5 and 20 Jarls.

-Barons: The Barons are a more functionary rank, for non ranking members of the houses who distinguish themselves as functional members under others, or task-completers. Usually a Knight-Errant or a Constable of the Marines will ascend to this rank, or a common Admiralty Officer who has proven themselves deserving. In the Apostolic houses, there can be anywhere from 30-50 Barons.

-Housecarls: Simple members of the house, who do not rank in truth are relegated to this position. They can ascend if they choose to do so. Apostolic Houses can have between 50-1000 Housecarls depending on their numbers.
-----------------------

The Mallumans have a more simplified system among their warlike clans. Iyn's are the only ones permitted to ascend the ranks in this manner, the Ars may only become revered concubines in the courts. Each clan is usually localized to a large city state ruled by a Reox.

Imperator: a Reox who has proven the greatest warrior of the age, and ascends his Clan to preeminence over all the others on San.
Reox: The Clan-Kings known as the Reos who are the primary leaders of each Clan. They are determined by the strongest warrior.
Werox: Weros as they are plural known are the lieutenants of the Reox, and usually the heirs by virtue of their martial skill. They often have minor courts of their own, and are considered equivalents to Jarls. The number of Weros depends on the size of the clan.
Clansman: The rank of all others in the clan, by showing martial prowess they can become Weros or even Reos themselves.
----------------------

The Nebulans are the only race who's rank is given at birth and cannot be changed, due to the eusocial and dimorphic nature of their biology.

Queen-Matriarch: The ruling queen of a hive and usually not the sole reproducing queen unless the hive is newly founded. She will be the center of the political and psychic activities of the hive and often direct its resources and attentions.
Queen-jarla: The other queens in a hive, daughters or sisters of the matriarch in most cases, can number in the 20s and 30s with large enough hives. They help to organize the Cartel fleets and maintain the hive, and serve as potential successors to the Matriarch Queen.
Male Barons: Name suffix of olm is in their name, and they serve as administrators and commanders to their wives the queens. They are usually the most valued of the Husbands.
Male Knights: With the name suffix of oam, these males, either lower ranking husbands or neutered sons of queens serve as enforcers of the law and directors of activity among the normally docile workers and warriors, or as Ambassadors to different cartels or organizations.
Women Warriors: The Soldier class, sterile females, commanded by Male Knights .
Women Servants: The worker class, kept in line by the male knights,
----------------
* The Yorms live in collective small communities with no true sense of rank, therefore having no applicable ranks to show.

Nobility was banned after our independence in 1760, however before that it was a little something like this:

British Anolland:

Monarch (King or Queen, or Lord Protector)
Consort (Monarch's spouse)
Crown Prince/Princess (heir to the throne)
Prince
Princess
Duke
Duchess

The Sovereign:

Emperor
(Abolished in 1868)
Prior to Alizeria gaining independence from the Cornellian Empire in 1868,
the Emperor was constitutionally considered the highest authority in the land.
While, until the 1850s, Emperors seldom interfered in the day-to-day running of the nation,
they tended to control Alizerian policies on matters such as defence, trade and to a limited
extent taxation (in that the King was required to pay a 'tribute' to the Emperor.)

King
Currently the constitutional head of state and head of the Church of Alizeria,
the Alizerian Monarchy dates back to John the Conqueror in 810AD, who
united the three tribal 'nations' of Kjork, Palatine and Chiridia as the Kingdom of
Alizeria. Over the last millennium the power of the Monarch has been stripped back.
Since 1912, the Monarch has possessed only reserve powers, and is bound to
political impartiality, with most political power resting now with the Cabinet and Parliament.

Bishops

Archbishop
There are three Archbishops in the Church of Alizeria,
who have jurisdiction over a third of the country each,
corresponding to the three former tribes of Alizeria.
While the King is the de jure head of the Church,
the Archbishops are the day-to-day governors, and are
also present when a new King is crowned. They are
non-voting members of the House of Clergy and almost
always form part of the Supreme Court of Alizeria. The
three Archbishops are the Archbishop of Auckland, who
governs northern Alizeria (formerly the nation of Chiridia),
the Archbishop of Wellington, who governs central Alizeria
(formerly the nation of Palatine) and the Archbishop of
Otago who governs southern Alizeria (formerly the nation
of Kjork).

Bishops
Bishops are members of the clergy who are ordained
by the laying on of hands of another bishops, with
this lineage believed to have gone back to the Apostles
(although many Bishops claim to be part of an Apostolic
tradition stretching back to the Apostle Ian,
whose very existence is disputed and denied by other Christian
denominations.) All members of the House of Clergy are Bishops.

Priests

Deacon
Deacons are priests with jurisdiction over a large number
of churches, usually an entire town or even a city.

Pastor
A Pastor is a Priest who is head of a particular parish
and the seniormost Priest there.

Vicar
A Vicar refers to any Priest in a particular parish who is
not a Pastor, and occasionally refers to Priests in charge
of parishes with very small congregations.
Nobility

Prince
"Prince" or "Princess" usually refers directly to the children and grandchildren
of the reigning Monarch, most notably the Crown Prince (or Princess) who is heir to the throne. If the Monarch
is a Queen, the the Queen's consort will usually be a Prince. The spouse of the Heir will also become a Prince or Princess, however spouses of Princes (or Princesses) who are not the Heir will become Dukes or Duchesses (see below).

Duke
There is considerable crossover between "Prince" and "Duke" which often causes confusion. All Princes are Dukes, but not all Dukes are Princes. Generally speaking a Duke refers to any member of the Royal Family, including those who marry into it and the descendants thereof. While Dukes are not always in line to the throne (and in modern times they scarcely are), they will always have some sort of family connection to the Monarchy, however distant.

Marquess
A Marquess is a hereditary peer, and the highest rank of nobility outside of the royal family. While traditionally, Marquesses were the rulers of coastal lands (the borders of Alizeria), this has since faded into obscurity.

Earl
Earls were traditionally the rulers of the various inland Counties however like Marquess this has faded into obscurity and now simply represents someone who is ranked above a Baron but below a Marquess. Most commonly Earls will be Barons who served in the House of Nobles who were elevated by the King as a reward or honour.

Viscount
Viscounts are almost always the heir to an Earl or Marquess but are yet to gain the title themselves. They are ranked above Barons but generally below Earls. It is very rare for someone to be directly made a Viscount.

Baron
Barons are the lowest form of nobility who are permitted to sit in the House of Nobles. Baronies are most commonly granted to notable members of the House of Peasants - most commonly to former Prime Ministers and Cabinet Ministers.

Baronet
A Baronet is a hereditary knight. It is not a peerage, and Baronets are not considered "true nobles", however they outrank all other knights.

Knight
Knighthoods are granted to individuals who have excelled in varying fields, either at the discretion of the King or on the advice of the Prime Minister. Usually around 100 people per year receive Knighthoods.

Peasants

Yeoman
Traditionally Yeomen were Peasants who owned land and were considered the upper class of peasants. Occasionally Yeomen were called upon to act as errand runners for the upper nobility, and today Yeomen are generally people who perform strictly ceremonial roles - such as the Usher of the Black Rod during the ceremonial opening of Parliament.

Capitalists
Capitalists are a recent class which appeared in the 19th Century and refers to businessmen, financiers and industrialists who became wealthy with "new money" (as opposed to the "old money" of the nobility). In modern times Capitalists have replaced Yeomen as being the 'upper class' of the peasants and many are notably richer than the nobility and even than the King himself.

Bourgeois
Often referred to as "the middle class" in modern times, most Alizerians today could arguably be considered bourgeois. Traditionally 'bourgeois' was the name given to any Commoner who was able to read or write although today it refers to any professional with a university education.

Commoner
Today known as the 'working class', Commoners are Alizerians who are either unemployed, or employed in menial or labour intensive jobs and who do not hold university degrees. The distinction between the three types of Peasants has of course lost its importance by the 21st century and is kept only for the sake of tradition.

We used to have a "medium-amount" of nobility ranks, which lasted from 1500 to 1760. There are still ranks, but there are fewer than in the past. Here are the nobility ranks from the most powerful to the less-influential ones for today:

King/Queen
Grand Prince/Princess
Prince/Princess

Lord/Duchess
Grand Lorefils/Lorefille

And the ranks from the past:

Lord/Duchess
Grand Lorefils/Lorefille

Count/Countess

Nobility ranks:
All ranks will be given as Male Title (Female Title) — <Description>.
    GREATER NOBILITY
  • Prins (Prinses) — The highest recognized rank of Thylacinian nobility, it is reserved for the heads of the Primordiale Huise, the Ancient Noble Houses.
  • Hertog (Hertogin) — Refers to sovereign rulers of ducal holdings. Holders of this title have the privilege of electing the President of the Most Serene Republic and can nominate appointees to the House of Lords.
  • Provinsialus (Provinsialin) — Originally the title held by the rulers of provinces, they no longer play an administrative role. The title can be conferred upon holders of any member of the Greater Nobility who has rendered outstanding service to the Most Serene Republic.

    COMITAL NOBILITY
  • Markgraaf (Markgravin) — Refers to lords or ladies who hold sovereignty in the borderlands of the Most Serene Republic. Currently only utilised for comital nobility whose primary holdings lie outside Thylacinia Proper (i.e. in the colonial territories).
  • Landgraaf (Landgravin) — The usual title for comital nobility whose primary holdings lie within the territory of Thylacinia Proper.
  • Ryksgraaf (Ryksgravin) — A special comital title which may be bestowed upon any comital lord or lady who has performed some outstanding service to the Most Serene Republic. It is used in place of the holder's former comital title.
  • Woestyngraaf (Woestyngravin) — A comital title used for lords or ladies whose primary holdings lie in the Middle Lands, an unorganized territory in the middle of Thylacinia Proper (under various provincial authorities).
  • Vrygraaf (Vrygravin) — Granted to individuals of lesser nobility for some outstanding service to the Most Serene Republic. This is the only non-hereditary comital title.

    LESSER NOBILITY
  • Vryheer (Vryvrou) — equivalent to a baron in many other countries. In modern times, it does not necessarily confer the administration of a barony, but the title has retained its hereditary nature and the privileges associated thereto.
  • Ridder van die Swaard (Ridderin van die Swaard)Knight of the Sword; this title is conferred upon military officers who have rendered outstanding service to the Most Serene Republic. It is not hereditary and is unlanded.
  • Ridder Aangestel (Ridderin Aangestel)Knight Appointed; formerly a title conferred upon civil servants who had rendered outstanding service to the Most Serene Republic. It is currently very rarely utilised. Non-hereditary. Unlanded.
  • Ridder deur Reg (Ridderin deur Reg)Knight by Right; any member of a recognized Monastic or Chivalric order holds this non-hereditary title. Unlanded.
  • Heer (Vrou) — The lowest hereditary title of nobility. It does not confer sovereignty over any portion of land.

Milkus has a wide range of noble titles, especially because they are very accepting of foreign titles, and acknowledge and protect those of the previous regimes. The highest rank is Fürst, which is translated into English as prince, and is held by the Prince-Bishop. Next comes Prinz, which is also translated prince, but is a lower rank than Fürst. Next there is Markgraf or Marquis, and then Count which is the most common. After that is burggraf, viscount and then baron. There are also the ranks of Knight, Edler and Junker, but those are considered untitled. Often offices are used as noble titles or combined with them if they are hereditary.
Head of State: Prince-Bishop Anthony II of Brunnenwald. Head of government: Vogtin Fredericke of Kleinberg. Foreign Minister: Maximilian Hardwick
