It moves the heavenly objects in their courses, controls the seasons and the weather, causes crops to grow in the earth and gems to grow in the rocks below. All living beings possess some innate magic talent, although it's not always obvious.

Ponies of course are magical, although in different ways:

• Unicorns are what you'd consider traditional "magic users". They can consciously draw upon their magical strength, and with study and practice, use it to warp reality to their will.
• Pegasi are more instinctual magic users. They can manipulate the weather and walk on clouds as if they were solid ground. It's not something they study, they just do it.
• Earth Ponies at first glance don't appear magical, but that's because their talent is subtle. They have mastery over the earth, able to "tame" the land to make barren wilderness or wild jungle gentle and hospitable.

Throughout the centuries the fields of science and magic slowly combined into the field of magitech/technomagic, something unique amongst the nations that fled the Old World. However, while magitech/technomagic is the basis for Alor technology, plain ole' science and magic are often used when the magitech/technomagic solutions would be inconvenient.

But when it comes to the military, the closest thing to magic is "Lyrea"-a person capable of moving objects using his mind as well as sucking blood out of corpses using his mind. He was "sired" back in the 3rd Qandarian Civil War when he got killed and was treated with the modified zombie virus. So he's basically a zombie.
