Favorite Founding Father? Who and why.

Postby Ripoll » Fri Nov 28, 2014 3:18 pm

Mine would have to be Alexander Hamilton.

He started publishing papers about independence at 17 helped run a business at 14. Never accepted any money despite being born privileged

Established the first functioning American banking system this nation had, exercised fiscal responsibility and financial credibility and created the beginnings of this Nations infrastructure. Helped us pay back our war debts and set us on the right path of becoming a global super power.

Treasurer, Banker, but above all Statesman.

Used common sense trade tariffs to protect what Americans made and less to accept what Americans needed to make them.

Reformed the financial system to allow sufficient amount of start ups in America.

No one can contend. Thoughts?

Who's your favorite founding father and why?
- Moderate Right Winger
- New Englander Liberal
-Profoundly Patriotic
-Objective and Pragmatic

I align myself with the democratic party, but I respect various moderate conservatives such as John Huntsman, John McCain, etc.

Political Compass | Economic 1.88 Social 0.77

Pro - Capitalism, Adam Smith, Mixed Economies, Radical Centrism, Moderates, Free and Fair trade, Affordable Care Act, Globalisation, Democracy.

Con - Socialism, Communism, Anarchism, Political Extremism, Self Righteous Atheists, Central Planning, libertarians, gold standard, and Ron Paul

Ben Franklin. He loved wine and he loved whores. The man is an inspiration.

Why, Sir John A. Macdonald, of course. It takes a talented politician to show up to a debate during his a re-election campaign for the Prime Ministership stinking drunk, slur his way through a verbal argument with his opponent and throw up on the stage midway - and still end up getting re-elected.

It is hard to pick just one because many in their own ways were renaissance men in their own right contributing to the arts and sciences of their time, as well as sacrificing their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to help establish a nation conceived in the concept of Liberty. There are so many that it can vary depending on the topic or the day. The older I get the more I appreciate Noah Webster.

Founder of American Education, Lexicographer who help establish the American dialect of the English language. Helped develop an understanding of civics so that self-government became a distinct identifier of, and ingrained reality in the body politic of the American. Helped raise a generation of Americans who saw Americanism as an ideology of liberty to strive after by living up to high ethical standards, instead of mere blood and soil nationalism.

They would be traitors, had they failed.

At the time of rebellion they certainly could be classified as traitors.

IC Info: TL;DR verson of Nekronia: Authoritarian government with elements of the USSR and national socialism. Everyone works for the government, and buys from the government, obsoleting taxes as the money does not leave the country, save for government buying of items of foreign nations. Military is advanced but unconventional, focusing on infantry and psychological warfare. Primary method of national income is export of armaments and other war-related items.

Best President would probably be FDR actually.
People's opinion of Washington are warped and think that because he was the first he's somehow the best.

They were but successful traitors. Whether you agree with them or not is not the question; they rebelled against their country and later separated from it.

Not an American and not an expert (I study American Studies but we're still in the colony period, so), I'll go with George Washington, as he seems the most popular and leading figure.
19-year old agnostic university student living in Izmir, Turkey. I consider myself a centre-left Kemalist, social liberal and civic nationalist/patriotic. I like drinking beer (Beck's, Carlsberg, Efes Pilsen), watching Anime and soccer (Fenerbahce fan here). I'm now a proud member of the newly founded Anatolia Party.

PRO: Enviromentalism, State feminism, Anti-clericalism, Individualism, EU (including Turkey), PES, LGBT rights, abortion, Legalize It movement, Laïcité, Westernization, Gezi youth, Tamarod, Greek-Turkish sisterhood, Ataturk's ideals

ANTI: Religious conservatism, Ethnic nationalism, Islamism, Religious zionism, Neo-Ottomanism, Imperialism, Irredentism, Prejudices, Stereotypes, Turcophobia, PKK, Free Syrian Army, Hamas, Muslim Brotherhood, Qatar

No, technically none of the founding fathers were American. But he along with the others were still founding fathers of the US.
