Beldakan Civil War (IC, Closesd, See OOC)

Postby Rentalla » Tue Nov 25, 2014 3:49 pm

It started on Christmas day. A protest in the city of Kiren. Groups of students began protesting against the monarchy. The protestors were gunned down, and those taken prisoner were put to death for treason.

This didn’t sit well with most of the populace. More protests started across the Kingdom of Beldaka. The government tried to deal with these protestors in the same way as before, but in the north the protests turned into rebellion. People began to pick up arms against their government. A number of provinces in the North declared independence from the Kingdom of Beldaka. The rebels dug in and waited for the Royal military to come.

The nobility of Beldaka thought that they would easily be able to end the rebellion. The first offensives were disasters for the Royal Beldakans. Every battle was a major loss. The rebels were able to crush every attack thrown at them. After the first year the royal Beldakans had not made any ground against the rebels.

During the winter there was a culling in the military. The highest ranking generals were executed, and new commanders were put in charge of the war. It was a turning point for the Royal Beldakans. Shortly after the change in leadership the royal Beldakans finally broke through the rebel's defenses, and started to push them back. The North Beldakans went to their neighbor, Rentalla, for aid. The Rentallans had declared neutrality at the beginning of the conflict, and enacted an embargo on both sides of the civil war.

The North Beldakans poured everything they could into stopping the advance. Order within their territories began to deteriorate. A group within Rentalla watched the conflict eagerly. The Rentallan People's Liberation Army a, a communist organization, decided to take advantage of the chaos within Beldaka. The RPLA had had no progress trying to install a communist regime in Rentalla, so they moved into Beldaka, and seized control of a sizable amount of territory.

Once again the North Beldakans begged the Rentallans to help. The Rentallans were besides themselves. They agreed to help remove the RPLA from Beldaka, but they still refused to arm the rebels.

It's November. The Royal Beldakans are preparing to take the city of Enriah, and other armies are fighting their way to the other major cities within North Beldaka. Rentalla has prepared an army to send into the territory captured by the communists, and the North Beldakans are sending a small amount of forces to help.

Recently a shocking claim was leveled at the Kingdom. A town on the border of Beldaka, and rentalla, and near the front was wiped out. The Rentallan military seized the town and began to investigate. The findings were shocking. Everyone in the town had been killed by a biological weapon. The eyes of the world finally turn to the small country.

It has been nearly two years, but the war is far from over.

Masek, Beldakan capitol
King Konstantin XXVIII stood at the window of his office, looking out at the snow covered gardens of his palace. He thought about life before the war. The last two years had been hard. The setbacks the year before had cost his nation greatly. Putting down those treasonous generals had been the right choice. His military was finally making progress. One general promised to have the city of Enriah by the end of the week. The rebel forces were finally collapsing.

He was glad that he had decided to dispose of those traitorous commanders who had extended the war. His new commanders were doing a much better job, and had informed him that they were implementing a plan that would quickly end the war. Taking a sip of fine wine, smiled. Hopefully the war would be over by Christmas.

Enriah North Beldaka
People rushed back and forth within the small room that had been appropriated as the command center. General Allen went over the maps of the city. “How many were able to get out of the city?” He asked. The Royal Bedlakan advance on the city of Enriah had been quick and brutal. They had had little time to prepare. “Not many. We estimate that two thirds of the populace is still here.” Just another bit of bad news to add to the pile.

Enriah was a territorial capitol, and one of the first to declare independence from the Kingdom. It was quickly becoming a symbol of how desperate the war was getting. “Hold them at Enriah.” Everyone was saying. Command knew that if they lost Enriah it was likely the end of the war.

Thgousands of soldiers had been diverted from other fronts, and from the North where the communists were wreaking havoc. At least the Rentallans were going to help with them.

Ishanta, North beldakan capitol
President Sallis went through the reports he had received that morning. “It is without a doubt that the village of Ucon was the target of a biological weapon. It is the opinion of the Rentallan government that the attack was perpetrated by the Royal Beldakan government. This conclusion is in part due to the fact that the North beldakan government lacks the resources to produce such a weapon. The Royal Beldakan government however not only has the resources, but has been investigated by international agencies regarding the production of chemical and biological weapons.” He didn't need to continue.

The town had been an important stop for smugglers, getting weapons from Rentalla into North Beldakan hands. The people willingly helped the smugglers, and that was why they were targeted. Terror filled the president. If the royals were wiling to wipe out an entire village to cut off a supply of guns when would they decide to turn their WMDs on the rest of the population.

At the same time now he was full of hope. First of all it meant that the Royals were getting a little desperate. Their advance must not have been going as well as believed. Second, it meant that international attention would be brought to their corner of the world.

We have been observing your cause for some time now in the Ministry of Defense, and we have, all things considered, come to the inevitable conclusion that war must come to our people if we are to defend liberty at a global scale and the autonomy of the people of North Beldaka at a regional scale. Thus, we are pledging 4500 troops comprising a United Wagain Expeditionary Force, and any naval and air power necessary to transport, supply, and support both these men and women in arms and the soldiers of our allies. Lastly, we would like to affirm our steadfast commitment to international law and the safety of the most vulnerable foreign nationals, namely civilians and the wounded in all theaters of combat. We will devote all resources possible to ensuring the continued safety and representation of these people, whether at home or abroad. Please allow us several weeks for appropriate mobilization and transport; once collected we will initiate opening strikes and support missions in defense of our allies in the North.

We thank you for your pledge of support. For too long our pleas for help have gone unanswered. The Royal Beldakans have been vicious in their attacks on our people, and we have reason to believe they have used, and are planning on using weapons of mass destruction. We hereby give you permission to begin military operations in North Beldaka. God be with you, and your brave soldiers.

Classification: PUBLIC

For an unknown reason, our nation had not heard of this civil war until recently. After reviewing the beginning, reaction, and escalation of this war, we have decided the Kingdom of Beldaka has committed various crimes against its people, and deserves to be punished. Unfortunately, the Kven government is not keen on participating in all-out war. However, we support the North Beldakan cause, and therefore, shall donate 7,000 troops to the welfare of their state. 500 of these troops are the Omikron-17 Special Operations Command, a renowned force. We hope they will be of service, and wish you the best of luck on your fight for independence.

The sounds of artillery could be heard from miles around as the Royal Beldakan Army began its assault on Enriah. APCs, Humvees, and tanks made their way into the suburbs of the city where they came into contact with the first groups of rebels. The fighting quickly became fierce. The Royal Beldakans were better equipped, but the rebels had adequately prepared for their arrival. Rebel traps were everywhere, and the Beldakan advance was greatly slowed.

General Amira listened as casualty reports came in. He was responsible for conquering the cities of Barun, and Starata in the North West. The King wanted the military to focus on the Eastern half of the rebel held lands. For some reason he believed that if they could capture the rebel capital this would all be over. King Konstantin was a delusional man who didn't understand warfare, or even politics really. In all honesty Amira was surprised it took this long for a civil war to erupt.

The rebel defenders were doing surprisingly well. For the past few weeks he had been trampling all resistance under the tracks of his tanks. They must have been trying to hold of the Royal Army, so that they could set up better defenses here. If it was the case it was working. HE was already getting reports that some of his battalions were being forced to pull back. He would have to rethink his strategy.

Enriah
The North Beldakans were taking heavy causalities, but they were able to hold off the enemy advance. General Allen ordered a section of the line to fall back, hoping that the Royal beldakans would press the attack. He planned on then cutting them off, and surrounding them. It was a classic ploy, and one that was easy to avoid, but the Royals seemed to underestimate the North Beldakans.

Echia, North Beldaka
Troops gathered at various points in the city. The RPLA was planning on a number of offensives to try and take a little more territory from the North Beldakans. They didn't have the best weaponry, and they had to take their vehicles from the local populace, but it was all for a glorious cause.

Aron Henner walked down a corridor in what used to be Echia's town hall. The small city didn't have much, but what it did have would go a long way in advancing their cause. It had been a year since their previous leader had surrendered, and sold out his own people. He would get what was coming to him. The Rentallans would put him down for sure. It was just a shame that those imperialists would be the ones to do it and not those who he had turned his back on.

His betrayal had hurt the RPLA greatly. The Rentallans were able to destroy every cell, every hidden camp, but now they had united again, and they would bring the revolution to Beldaka. Brothers in the country had already tried during the initial uprisings, but they had little popular support among the common people, pity. With the arrival of the RPLA the revolution had finally gotten some traction, and with the North Beldakans focusing on holding the royals back the RPLA had been able to act with impunity. The Northerners had sent some troops to tray and clean them out, but they couldn't afford to send nearly enough. It seemed that nothing could dislodge the revolutionaries.

However, we do not feel that we are able to offer military action, since we do not believe that military action is an action to take, rather, we view it as a last resort. Instead, we are willing to offer our services as diplomatic envoys to nations, meditating discussions between the two nations of Beldaka.

Also, we would like to inform you of our support of the leftists north of you - however, we condemn their military actions. There is no place for violence, and we hope to meditate concerns with them as well. With Rentalla, we hope to bring the four peoples together, in understanding, and create a solution that brings about a proper future for us all. We hope to hear from you soon.

An Official Communiqué from the Kingdom of Aigéantir

To the Monarchy of Beldaka, the Government of North Beldaka, the RPLA Leaders, and the Government of Rentalla,

We have been monitoring your situation very carefully, and were shocked and horrified to hear of the use of biological weapons on Ucon. This conflict must come to an end before more innocent life is lost. Though we are committed to a diplomatic means to ending this conflict, we have 5,000 personnel, support vehicles, and fleet en route to help in preventing further acts of atrocity. We prefer not to show favouritism, however as allies with the Republic of Rentalla, we are first and foremost here to ensure that security and sovereignty of Rentalla is maintained.

As a monarchical nation, we are shocked and horrified to hear that the Kingdom of Beldaka would use biological weapons on their own people. We would like to call upon the Beldakan Government in the North, and the Kingdom of Beldaka to commit to a ceasefire, whereby an agreement to finding a peaceful solution to this conflict can be found, as well as a commitment to destroy any remaining chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons held by both sides in this conflict. We would also call upon the Republic of Rentalla and the RPLA to commit and respect this ceasefire. The RPLA, as an aggressor, will have to answer for its attacks on North Beldaka, as part of the diplomatic talks.

Finally, we call upon our peers of the Kingdom of Novo Wagondia, The Dominion of the High Lords, and Republic of New Kvenland, to commit to and observe alongside the Kingdom of Aigéantir in a ceasefire between all four parties to ensure that a peaceful means of ending this conflict can be reached.

Respectfully,

Enriah
The Royal Beldakans pounded the suburbs of Enriah with artillery. They devastated the area, firing indiscriminately. After they were done softening up the area the troops poured in. Resistance was light at first. They were able to capture a large amount of the suburbs before they met any serious resistance.

Masek
King Konstantin read the report, holding back his rage. The Royal Army had failed to break the rebels, and conquer the city. Meanwhile foreign support for the North was now flooding in. the king threw the papers onto his desk, and preceded to yell at his commanders.

"I was told that the city would be ours in less than a week!" He screamed, face flushing red. "Now because of that little stunt on the Rentallan border we have foreigners intervening! I will not watch my kingdom go up in flames like this!." He paused to catch his breath. "Admiral Oren." He said, starting to calm down. "Gather our entire fleet in Bitalla, and prepare for an assault on Ishanta. If the Army can't get me their capitol then perhaps the Navy can." The admiral nodded his affirmation.

"But your majesty. What will we do about the foreigners? Some have tried to broker a ceasefire, so that we can negotiate with the rebels." One of the commanders said. the king was quiet for a while.

"We will accept their invitation to discuss peace, but I will not allow for a cease fire when we are so close to taking back what is ours. Here is what we will do. We will stall the foreigners as long as possible, and in the meantime make as much progress against the rebels as we can."

To:the Kingdom of Aigéantir
From: The Kingdom of beldaka
We appreciate your attempts to solve this matter peacefully, but we do not believe that such a goal is possible. However we will send a delegation to discuss peace. Although we cannot agree to a ceasefire. We must defend our people, and that includes potecting them from rebel extremists. We hope you understand.

It was a dark and cold in the bedroom, as Roslin O'Reilly awoke to the sand of her alarm. Her husband Oscar, stirred beside her, but went back to sleep. Pushing the covers off, she was met with the chilling morning cold, that seemed to still enter the house, even with the furnace turned up. In a still groggy state, she immediately wanted to pull the covers back over herself, but instead forced herself to sit on the edge of the bed. Underneath the thick mattress it was easy to forget that winter was here, but now sitting in the morning hours exposed to the morning cold, wearing only a thin lace nightgown, it was clear that this was going to be a cold start. Suddenly Roslin realized it was Saturday. She had forgotten to reset her alarm. She didn't need to be up for another 2 hours. Oh well, she thought, I might as well use the extra time to check her emails, and have a leisurely start to my Saturday mornings for a change.

Roslin stood up, and walked quietly down the hall to her office. She turned on the the laptop, and got dressed in a comfortable dark blue suit skirt ensemble while the computer loaded up. She checked her messages, getting an email from one of her aides, who was already at the office:

Re: URGENT - update from Beldaka
Mrs. O'Reilly,

I just want to inform you that the Royal Beldakans have captured Enriah, and that they've sent a response to our own request for a ceasefire. The short of it is that they're willing to entertain us, and likely keep us preoccupied, but they aren't keen on a ceasefire. In fact they flat out don't want one because they feel that they have the right to protect their people from rebel extremists. It's got a lot of us worried, since they shelled the hell out of Enriah before they took the town, and it's likely that a biological attack is only the beginning if they're willing to use such tactics on anyone, let alone their own people. The fact that they didn't even acknowledge the disarmament request is itself a concern.

I will call you closer to 9, since I know you're likely to be up by then, but in case you get this message early, let me know, I've already contacted the office of the High King, but they're willing to put a stamp on anything you say as our Minister of Defense.

Regards,

Brady Cooney

Great she thought sarcastically to herself. She immediately grabbed the phone sitting near the laptop, and quietly shut the door so that Oscar and the kids wouldn't be woken by her calls. First she decided she would leave a message with the defense departments of Novo Wagondia, New Kvenland, and the Dominion of the High Lords, relaying the refusal of Aigéantir's ceasefire request, and lack of acknowledgement of WMD disarmament. She hoped she would hear from her allies soon, but having dealt with similar situations to this, Roslin knew that "tough guys" like this only seemed to understand strength. She called her office, the Department of Defence, next.

"This is Cooney speaking," Brady answered.

"Brady, I got your message, but shouldn't the High King stamp this with his seal of approval before we respond?" Roslin inquired.

"He already has, we've got a few guys from his office here right now to read it over, and Conchobar is waiting in his office to sign off on it," Brady replied.

"That man doesn't seem to sleep anymore, but I guess when you've got several incidents flaring up simultaneously you can't help but feel stretched thin. I know I've been feeling that way a lot lately... Here's what I'll do, I'll type up a response now, and send it directly to you, so the brass can read it over. We'll need to respond quickly to this, and I don't want to make everyone wait till I get to the office," Roslin explained.

"Okay, I'll make sure to give Conchobar your regards if you're not here by the time he signs off on our response. Is there anything else you want me to do?" Brady questioned.

"Yes, let the Minister of Trade know that we might have to look elsewhere for some purchases for the next while, especially if they come from Beldaka," Roslin stated.

She hung up and began to write a response:

To the Monarchy of Beldaka,

We are happy to hear that you are willing to send a delegation for the purpose of peace talks, however we are concerned that your disinterest in a ceasefire will only harm your already tenuous political position. A ceasefire is necessary to a peaceful resolution, an obligation not an option.

Therefore we have no choice but to threaten imposing travel restrictions on your country, as well as sanctions on your exports, until you are willing to take a lead in brokering a ceasefire with your neighbours to the north.

An Official Communiqué from the Kingdom of Aigéantir

(Image)

To the Monarchy of Beldaka,

We are happy to hear that you are willing to send a delegation for the purpose of peace talks, however we are concerned that your disinterest in a ceasefire will only harm your already tenuous political position. A ceasefire is necessary to a peaceful resolution, an obligation not an option.

Therefore we have no choice but to threaten imposing travel restrictions on your country, as well as sanctions on your exports, until you are willing to take a lead in brokering a ceasefire with your neighbours to the north.

Respectfully,

Ezequiel Mateo stood by his expansive office window, his dark eyes narrowing as billowing rainclouds charged towards the city from the South. It seemed he would have to cancel his plans for lunch on the waterfront, and get his aides to order him take out again. His Chief Aide, Kirabo Isingoma, had a certain affinity for reading the Lord Fleet Commander's mind, and spoke up from his position in the corner, lounged across a leather chair amid a hefty pile of fresh reports, which he had been skimming through since noon.

"It's funny; rainclouds are perhaps the one thing that won't retreat in your presence." chuckled the young aide, his mouth pulled into a smug smile

Mateo shot him a disapproving look, but laughed nonetheless. "I'd rather have the Beldakan Royalists on their knees than the weather" he murmured, turning his gaze on the large map of Beldaka tacked to his desk.

"Speaking of that, there's news. And not necessarily good news".

Isingoma took off his reading glasses, and handed a crisp piece of paper to his superior, rising from the chair to walk over to the map.

"So it appears the King has no appetite for diplomacy" muttered Mateo, visibly agitated, as he continued reading. "Are you sure this is right?"

"It's a transcript of a call from Roslin O'Reilly placed only minutes ago; I'd say it's credible. Besides, we've always known that Konstantin has more of a palette for cheese and wine than he does peace."

"If our allies in Aigéantir can't get them to agree to a ceasefire, there's no reason why we would have any more luck. I'd say our best hope at this point is to try and stop the Royalist advance from the South and the Communist advance from the North, and tire them out."

"So we'd be acting as peacekeepers?"

"If possible. But this is war; while we exist primarily to protect civilians and minimize damage to Beldakan life and property, somebody has to stem the scourge of our genocidal foes before they get the chance to do more harm."

"And before they sweep across the whole country, starting with Enriah"

"Starting with Enriah indeed. We cannot, under any circumstances, let that city fall. Perhaps we need to directly intervene."

"Shall I get Special Forces on the phone?"

Mateo thought for a moment, his mind turning over all possibilities and consequences he could foresee. "Yes" he finally said "Put some boots on the ground. I want them in the city limits as soon as night falls across Enriah"

As the 96 elite Wagain Army Commandos ran final checks over their equipment and weaponry in the cargo bay, the PA system on the purpose-designed MC-53 Seraph special forces assault aircraft flickered to life, and the pilot's crisp voice reverberated through the hold.

"Guard Company 5, this is your pilot announcing our final descent into Enriah. Prep your things at once; we're going dark".

The bright lights in the cargo bay shut off briefly, before soft red lighting filled the plane, and all external signal beacons died down.

Several minutes later, as the plane touched down lightly on the rebel-controlled airstrip and rolled to a gentle halt, the commandant of the company, Captain Gabriela Vasquez, stood up and motioned for her troops to stay silent. The company second-in-command approached silently, and conversed shortly with her.

"Captain, All eight sections are clear to disembark; we are ready to deploy at your go-ahead"

"You have my go-ahead; hit the ground"

With that, the rear hatch was dropped, and eight columns of twelve commandos ran out into the dark, clearing the immediate area and searching for rebel leadership

Enriah, North Beldaka
The battle for Enriah was getting fiercer by the minute. The Royal Army had reached the city itself, and the North Beldakans were doing everything they could to push them back. Casualties were heavy on both sides, but the battle was turning in the royalist's favor.

As the Wagain commandos made their way off their plane a runner met them.

"Welcome to Enriah sir." He said to the commander. "General Allen is expecting you. Right this way." The young soldier led captain Vasquez towards the command center. Despite the battle the core of the city had been spared a significant amount of damage. The North Beldakans had a large amount of anti air weapons, and the royalists didn't want to risk their limited air power when artillery could do the same job.

The commandos were led to some tents while their commander was escorted to General Allen. The command center was in a hotel that had been appropriated for the task. Originally the plan was to use city hall, but that was a bit too obvious. General Allen turned as the newcomers entered.

"Hello gents." he said trying to sound anything but hopeless. "It's good to see you. Even though it's under some pretty bad circumstances."

Kiraia, capitol of Rentalla
"We're ready to begin the operation Madam Chancellor." General Kossa said. "Do you really intend to hold off? This may be our only chance to take them out." Chancellor Lucescu nodded.

"Our allies are concerned with what's going on. If they want to try and talk it out Then that is what we'll do." The General sighed.

"Alright ma'am. We'll hold off, but I'm telling you that this might be our best chance to wipe them out for good." The General saluted, and left. He was right though. The RPLA was finally concentrated in a place where they could be cornered, and destroyed, but if Rentalla's allies wanted to open a dialogue then that is what they would do.

To: High Lords, and Aigéantir
From: Rentalla
We wish you to know that the RPLA is a terrorist organization that is responsible for the deaths of thousands of people. They have refused to strike at military targets, and attack civilians, blaming our government in an attempt to begin a revolution within our borders. We have been able to stop them and bring many of them to justice through legal means. They have taken advantage of the instability in North beldaka in order to do there what they could not here. Never the less we will agree to join in talks to end this peacefully. Rentalla has been neutral in the war, but it is affecting our nation greatly. We wish to see an end to hostilities as much as anyone.

The Rentallan submarine surfaced, and sent a message

Enriah, Beldaka

The Royal Army pushed hard. They knew how thin the rebel lines had gone, and were rushing to try and break them. They were primarily using infantry with a large amount of tanks, and even some attack helicopters for support. The Royal Beldakans were taking heavy casualties though, and the lines were being overstretched. Holes were starting to form in the Royal Beldakan lines. They didn't worry much about them though, The rebel's were spread too thin to take advantage of it.

Aron Henner watched as the last of the cars carrying his brave revolutionaries drive away. Snow fell softly illuminated by the glow of street lights. Luckily Echia had a small power plant, but it could barely produce enough energy for the small city. When the RPLA took over the region the North Beldakans quickly cut off the utilities in the region. There were many small towns that were suffering for it.

"Sir?" a voice came. It was Christopher. he was a close confidant of Henner's. "Have you come to a decision about the negotiations that the foreigners are proposing?" It was a hard decision. It would be unlikely that the foreigners would support a communist government in Beldaka, and if the Rentallans joined the in then they wouldn't have a chance.

"Have the Imperialists agreed to join the talks?"

"Our sources claim that they have." He said before pausing. "We can't let them send a delegation to slander us. We have to have a presence."

"It's a tough sell Chris. IF we refuse to go we will look obstinate, and it will be easy for our enemies to turn the foreigners against us. If we join then we have to sit in the same room with imperialists, and be cordial. It's also unlikely that we will get any serious support from anyone. The foreigners are all members of the IFC, and they prefer moderates to people like us, and the North Beldakan government is exactly the kind of government the IFC can get behind." Henner was quiet for a while. he watched the snow fall lazily. "Still it will buy us some time to get more weapons, and supplies. Send a delegation, and try and make it look like we want to end this peacefully." Chris ran off to follow his instructions. henner just stood in the cold, and watched the snow.

"Hello gents." he said trying to sound anything but hopeless. "It's good to see you. Even though it's under some pretty bad circumstances."

Captain Vasquez greeted the General politely, but spent little time with small talk. While she summoned her aides and poured over the most recent defense reports with the rebel leadership, her soldiers formed a defensive perimeter around the compound, freeing up rebel guards to move to the front lines. After making sure of her plan of attack, and with the once distant crackling of the battle closing in on the field command center, Vasquez radioed in her section heads, and dispatched them to their assigned locations.

"Sections one and two, you have direct orders to entrench yourselves around this hotel, and form what makeshift defenses you can. It is your single mission to commit all of your faculties to the protection of joint leadership and all essential communications and command equipment, which should be moved to the most secure area of the hotel as quickly as possible. Sections three, four, five, and six, you are to coordinate with each other to search for the most vulnerable spots in the enemy line, infiltrate them, and offer fire support to the rebels on the front lines while aggressively pursuing the enemy strong points. Expect reasonably heavy armor, and target their leadership when identifiable. Royalist lines are already spread thin, and if you can succeed in exploiting holes and forming pockets where you can close in alongside rebels and eliminate resistance, our forces can eliminate their advantage. Section seven, you are to secure the airfield, and coordinate with our command to evacuate any soldier or civilian who requires urgent medical attention. Section eight, you are to secure vital services, especially power sources and essential supplies, and protect essential infrastructure from enemy air assault. Our AA is strong, but you are to maintain constant watch for hostile helicopters, and you are tasked with taking them down should they break our lines and threaten our services. Over and out, carry on with courage"

As the Wagain commandos outside the building scrambled to fulfill their tasks, Vasquez returned to her meeting with the other leaders, keeping tabs on all recent developments to best identify the weak points in the enemy line, and maximize the effectiveness of her small yet highly trained and well equipped band of soldiers, whose collective burden it was to save the entire city from the cusp of defeat and relieve the weary and wounded North Beldakan defenders.

Roslin stepped off the elevator to find Brady Cooney waiting for her, message in hand. "It's the Rentallans, they are willing to work with us on a peaceful solution to the conflict in Beldaka. They say that though they feel that the RPLA is a criminal organization due to its tactics, they are willing to comply with our request."

Roslin sighed. "Well, at least someone is willing to sit down and talk this through." She wasn't surprised though, she already expected that the Rentallans would be most open to the diplomatic talks. "Any word yet from the North Beldakans?"

"No," Cooney replied. "Then again, communications haven't been the greatest with them considering the damage they've taken. It just might be that they haven't been able to reply. The RPLA did reply as well, saying they were willing to attend."

Roslin frowned. "I'm worried that this will escalate further before we have a chance to move in and back up the Wagondians. The Royalists have already shown they're willing to use WMDs on civilians, and the next time they pull such an act, we might not be able to stop them. As it is, they've made no agreement to deactivate and disarm their WMDs, which suggests that they don't want to part with them." She paused, motioning Brady to follow her. By the time she reached her office she had made up her mind. "Brady, let the Rentallans know that we appreciate their cooperation, and reassure them that all steps will be taken to bring the RPLA leadership to justice for their past crimes, however I want to give them a chance before we condemn them for their past actions. However, if the RPLA is unwilling to return the lands taken from North Beldaka to the North Beldakans, or in any way break the ceasefire, I will consider their position within the dialogue null and void.... Also, have Beta Group ready for deployment. They leave for International Waters off of Rentalla immediately."

Greetings,

We thank you for your support in finding a peaceful resolution to Beldaka's civil war. We also sympathize with you in regards to your concerns over the RPLA and the past crimes of its leadership. Rest assured that justice will befall them for past wrongs. We had hoped that they would return the land taken from North Beldaka, and use this opportunity to open up a conversation with your government. However, if we become aware or sense any means of deception, we will not hesitate to cut the RPLA out of the peace talks.

We are also sending our forces to the area in the event that an agreement is not reached. We have already declared a willingness to defend your sovereignty, and therefore ask for permission to enter Rentallan waters.

Greetings,

We thank you for agreeing to establishing a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict in Beldaka. However, we are aware of your past crimes, and therefore offer this olive branch with great reluctance. While we may not agree with your methods, it is our hope that this opportunity will allow the RPLA to open a dialogue with the Government of Rentalla to find a peaceful and political way of coexisting.

Captain Conwae watched as the last of the lines were loosened, allowing the aging Battleship Morrigan to move once again. Beta Group had been on standby for awhile, but now they were being called into action. Their role for now was to be a presence within the area around Beldaka and Rentalla. If necessary, they could deploy to assist the Wagondians with back up support for peacekeeping purposes, but Conwae had been instructed to avoid direct intervention while the peace talks were being attempted. Roslin O'Reilly , Kevin Fillin, and King Belenus III would be leaving in a few days to Rentalla, whereby they would meet up with Conwae on the Taranis, the closest thing to neutral ground, and host the delegations from the four factions involved in the conflict.

Other than the Morrigan, which acted more a symbol of strength and a mobile command centre in an age where battleships were used less, and the Taranis, the accompanying aircraft carrier that would serve as the neutral ground for the peace talks due to the ability to fly the representatives aboard, there were also 2 cruisers (Judocus and Haerviu), and 4 destroyers (Boadicea, Brighid, Neasa, and Agrona). Taranis had a full complement of 24 AF-18 Nemain Super Hornets, and 20 A-60 Mider support/attack helicopters. The 1st, and 3rd Brigades were accompanying the fleet, ready for quick deployment, along with 100 Neit APCs, 50 MI support trucks, and 150 TStan LUVs. The point was to prevent a war, not to start it, so the complement of troops was far from the number that Conwae thought would be sent with the fleet.

Conwae looked at the bridge officers standing at attention, now that the mooring lines were free of the harbour. All of them were excellent soldiers, dedicated to the cause of peace and justice. He just hoped that they weren't once again travelling into a mess. He turned to his helmsman. "Ahead full."

"Aye sir, ahead full." The officer replied. He could hear the order being relayed across the ship and over the radio among the other vessels. This was it, once again they were off to provide support for another major conflict, though Conwae hoped this time it would be more station-keeping and less conflict. Conwae's XO, Commander Peadar Donoghue approached him, wearing the concerned look he always did. "Well Captain, looks like we're being called on again."

"Yes," replied Conwae, "Once more into the breach."
