Alternate History: What if your History Went the Other Way?

Where in your nation's history could a major event turn out to have a different result than what has occurred in reality? How could it affect what your nation is?
Here are some of the biggest parts of Gauntair's history where they could have ended up in another outcome.


1. Conflict between the Northwestern and Southern Civilizations
What happened: The Northwestern and Southern Civilizations were the first civilizations to exist in Gauntair. In the southern half taken by the Southerners, trials by battle/ordeal were extensively used in justice and violent sports were some of the favorites they had. Contrarily, in the northern half occupied by the Northwesterners (their name taken from their geographic origins), they prefer to have peaceful trials and peaceful pastimes. When they met, massive differences cause them to be engulfed in raging wars that ended with Northwesterner victory. This allowed most future nations to be modelled after Northwesterner culture.

What could've happened: The Southerners could have defeated the Northwesterners just as easily as the other way around. Gauntairian nations to come might have been modelled after Southerner ideals, bent on conservatism or ultraconservatism, violent trials, and violent entertainment. A Renaissance that occurred all over Gauntair would be based primarily on Southerner works, although it would also take elemetns from Northwestern works. Varieties of torture and capital punishment would be accepted for crimes in modern times.


2. Fall of the first Gauntairian civilization
What happened: After the Northwesterner-Southerner conflicts, the civilization became too massive and divided to exist any longer. It broke up into many factions that fought for control. Feudalism and monarchs rose, and eventually Gauntair was reunified by King Hanries I, who established the First Gauntairian Empire.

What could've happened: The unified Northwesterner civilization (or the alternate unified Southerner civilization) might have never collapsed or at least have a belated collapse, although such a scenario is unlikely. The civilization would flourish due to its resources, culture, and early Gauntairian democracy. Perhaps more important are the facts that monarchies and feudalism would not be introduced, Christianity would've never been a major religion, and most civil wars/rebellions later on would never happen. The civilization would exist into at least the 14th century or beyond.


3. Absolute monarchy of Gauntair
What happened: For much of the time after the first Gauntairian civilization, the nation was ruled by an absolute monarchy with almost limitless powers. Despite this, the emperors had to be careful not to abuse their powers so as to avoid angering the potentially-volatile public. Starting in 1840, King (or Emperor) Auklad tried to make himself truly supreme by suppressing basic liberties, using secret police, and abusing a secret court. A rebellion rose after years of his totalitarian empire and the king was made to sign the King's Laws. With that signature, Gauntair was to have a constitutional monarchy ever since.

What could've happened: King Auklad could have achieved victory over the rebels and allow his empire to exist for his lifetime and beyond. His heirs would likely continue on the traditions of Auklad as Gauntairian democracy and liberties would disappear from the country. Gauntairians would be eventually indoctrinated to support the kings and think of them as their saviors or even gods. Should the Gauntair Empire somehow survive into the late 20th century or the early 21st century, it would be condemned by various nations for its rogue practices and the abuse of power by the monarch.

[Chadtonia]

Election of Chadtonias first Emperor, Emperor Chad The First (formerly Chad The Brave):

What happened: The populace vote for the first Emperor of Chadtonia occurred just hours after an assassination attempt on the would-be Emperor. It was a unanimous vote. The arrow missed the soon to be emperor's right shoulder by three to four inches. The shooter was discovered to be the brother of King Tinukuana, Chad The Brave's only opponent in this election. Emperor Chad The First was the first person to successfully unify the Provinces of Chadtonia and to establish a government for the United Provinces.


What could have happened: Emperor Chad the first was shot by an arrow just hours before he was to be elected. The votes had already been cast for Emperor Chad The First. The shooter has never been found and King Tinukua abandoned the search for the shooter after only fifteen days. Against the desired populace vote King Tinukua assumed the throne, since no one is running against him. Chadtonia fell into its longest and bloodiest war in all of the would-be nation's history. The provinces became independent nations after King Tinukua could no longer find military support. These nations are constantly in war.

[Stormwrath]

War of Stormwrathian Independence and the early years

What happened: This was a war between the Stormwrathian colonials and the Elumbish Islands from 1435-1440, resulting in a Stormwrathian victory and the formal establishment of Stormwrath as an independent state. At first it was a federation, but it crumbled and was replaced by an imperial monarchy.

What could've happened:

• The colonials would've lost the war, and the Elumbish Islands would still retain control of Stormwrath. This may diverge into two paths: either the colonials rebel against the Elumbish Islands again at a later period or Stormwrath will eventually be granted independence through peaceful means.
• If the colonials' invasion of the neighboring colony of Shivva would be successful, Stormwrath would be larger than what it is today, encompassing all the territory that is now Perpinia, Stormwrath and Messis Columen. The new government would've instituted an absolute monarchy sooner.
• If the federation held together, we would have had a republic, a congress and the abolition of the gentry.

Great Zeronian War

What happened: The Great Zeronian War began in 1725 with the invasion of Altara by the Tervalian Coalition. The invasion was pushed back and Altaro retaliated by invading Tervalia itself. The war ended with an Altarian victory, and an occupation zone was established over Western Stormwrath, Northwest Texurica, the western quarter of Shivva-Naritrana, and the entirety of Montalia.

What could've happened:

• The Tervalian invasion would've been successful and Altaro would be weakened, whether through an occupation zone established in the southwest, the destruction of Empire City, the breakup of the nation into its 20 kingdoms and their eventual colonization by the human world, or a combination of these events.
• The Altarian Invasion would be repelled and the two sides will arrive at a stalemate. Altaro and the Tervalian Coalition will sign an armistice and begin an era of uneasy peace between the two. What will happen next is for another time.
• The Tervalian invasion would've been repelled sooner by Altaro in 1725, putting the war's end in 1726 at most, and 1728 at least.

War of Liberation

What happened: The War of Liberation is a war between Stormwrath and Altaro from 1736-1742. Its Tervalian allies turned against Stormwrath in this conflict, but despite all odds Stormwrath gained victory, and brought upon the world a much more powerful Stormwrath in the international stage.

What could've happened:

• Stormwrath would've lost at the Battle of Monta City and the Battle of Meadland, opening up the east to Altarian invasion. This would result in an Altarian victory, and occupation would've continued until the 1760s. After that, Stomrwrath would become an extremely dependent nation on Altaro, just like how Japan is to the United States.
• Stormwrath's allies wouldn't have turned against Altaro, and they would've simultaneously challenged their common enemy, resulting in a Tervalian victory. This war would've ended by 1739 at the most and 1741 at the least.

Stormwrath Civil War

What happened: The Stormwrath Civil War began in 1923, when several military officers attempted a coup on the administration of Emperor Matthias III in order to install a socialist republic in Stormwrath. The civil war went on until 1927. The western half was controlled by the Republicans, and the eastern half was controlled by the Imperials. Altaro intervened in the conflict in support of Matthias III, and through their combined efforts gained victory, ensuring the survival of the constitutional monarchy and of the territorial integrity of the nation.

What could've happened:

• Altaro wouldn't have intervened, and the conflict would've dragged out longer for another four to seven years, no matter which side won. Aside from that, reintegration would now be much harder, as most Stormwrathian industries would be destroyed by the conflict. Overall, Stormwrath would be a weaker nation than it is today, and its extraterrestrial colonies would secede from the homeland.
• The Battle of Asis City, widely considered to be the turning point of the Stormwrath Civil War, would've resulted in a Republican victory, and the Imperials would be forced on the defensive and lose the war. The Socialist Republic of Stormwrath would formally be established in 1929, initially raising tensions between it and Altaro. This could also go into two paths: either this new government will eventually reconcile with Altaro or become even more hostile.
• Another alternate history is that the Civil War will end in a stalemate and the two Stormwraths will be separate countries; just like North and South Korea.
• Had Emperor Matthias not escaped Tidal City before the conspirators reached the Lilac Palace, the coup would've been successful, eliminating the need for a civil war and formally establishing the Socialist Republic at an earlier date. Eventually, this will go into two paths: either Matthias III gets reinstated as Emperor, putting the civil war at a later time; or nothing happens except for the pursuit of the new government's goals, which may include eliminating capitalism and the Apiscii.

[Arab Jamahiriyahs]

War in the Middle East, 2075-2079

• What happened: The Middle East, the area east of the Sinai peninsula, was originally a claim of the AJ, but however [anonymous NPC nation] declared war on us and declared us revisionists. They were supported by another NPC nation, also socialist and anti-revisionists, and started their invasion in Afghan-Iranian border, where tensions were going high. The war continued for 4 years and sadly we lost, now that all areas east of the Sinai belong to social imperialist powers.
• What could have happened: We won the war (a bit unlikely) and eventually entered Northern India after pushing through Afghanistan and Pakistan, welcomed by local muslims and socialists. We would also have liberated Turkey from revisionist rule, and even stretch to Armenia and Georgia in the north. Unfortunately our landmass is too large and our economy collapses, resulting in total anarchy and a worse scenario for locals.

War in the Sahel, 2076-2079

• What happened: A nation established on the Horn of Africa (NPC), the Greater Ethiopian Union, aligned with the revisionist powers and attacked our socialist allies in Sudan and Chad. We sent hundreds of thousands of troops in to support our socialist allies in Sudan against the Ethiopians (Socialist as well). Of course we made a terrible mistake, and unfortunately two fronts was too much for our nation to support and in the same year, we lost the war here as well and lost all influence in the Sahel.
• What could have happened: Oh yeah, we won again, and our brave troops fly our former green flag over the buildings of Addis Ababa. However, there will be enemy guerrilla refusing to accept our rule, and we would be depleted on this front as well. The war on the other front would not have ended either and, assuming we won that as well, Arab and Muslim supremacism would rise, even if the Ethiopians were strictly Canaanites from the Caucasian race, and then a theocratic caliphate/ultra-pan-arab republic takes over and we get intensely unpopular and we collapse again.

2077 Cairo Incident

• What happened: In 2077, terrorists of People's Socialist Party support (secretly) hijacked several heavy attack aircraft and several warmechs from a Cairo war factory. Then they attacked the Central District of the city, with superior firepower any resistance was to be destroyed, and caused horrible damage to the city with their destructive weapons. The entire Central District was destroyed with buildings on fire or into nonexistance, and 1237 people died as well. Later, the People's Socialist Party blamed it on the Islamic People's Party who were their main opposers and drawn out a plan to clean up all future potential enemies. The Islamic People's Party was purged and only a small portion was left as the Islamic Socialist Party, and the People's Socialist Party gained popular support, and controlled the government. They terminated all investigations on the attack (the Ministry Of State Security, was however, already filled with their supporters) and ordered all documents about it to be decommissioned. All records were reduced to "extremist terror attack" with no further explanations other than blaming the IPP. It was the largest censorship that ever went going in our nation as well.
• What could have happened: PSP did not win support, and so investigations find out the truth this was a plot. Purge of communists start as "green terror" and the PSP is disbanded. Communism no longer wins favour, only more moderate grades of socialism are accepted. The flag stayed green with the coat of arms on the upper left and hammer-sickles were to be banned. IPP and the now illegal Sirte Party wins favour, and the nation is much more Islamized than it is today.

As Humanity reached the age of Steam, The Dominion Left Earth in hopes of finding a new home, It took several months to create a Colony ship but they Escaped earth with no one knowing they existed and Slept in space for the next 200 years.

Queen Yocasta the first would have put the rebellion down bloodily and carried on kidnapping and murdering other people's daughters most likely.

The islands would not have been abandoned, the people who started the tribes would not have been able to come here, and millions would be visiting a theme park with live dinosaurs. Also there would be electricity and indoor plumbing.

What happened: Weegee had prepared his armies to cross a narrow land bridge leading from the Weegeelandian continent to another continent, in order to begin his invasion of the world. Suddenly, a massive earthquake decimated it.

What could have happened: If the earthquake never happened, Weegee would have led his army across. Nobody would have known about him. The world would be unprepared. He would most likely have taken over the world, after years of war.

From Ferdinand Marco's proclamation of martial law to the People Power Revolution

What happened?

In September 1972, then Defence Minister Juan Ponce Enrile was ambushed while en route home. The assassination attempt, which Enrile claims was real, along with the growing threat of the New People's Army, citizen unrest, a restless student body who demanded educational reforms, a rising crime rate and a growing Communist insurgency. On September 21 President Marcos issued Presidential Proclamation No. 1081, proclaiming a State of martial law in the Philippines.

The People's Republic of Zhouran increased espionage operations within the Philippines, as Marcos not only targeted communists, but also Yirenwiebenists. Also, the State Intelligence Department successfully stole thousands of classified government and military documents, with Marcos and his cronies not knowing of this.

The opposition boycotted the June 16, 1981 presidential elections, which pitted Marcos and his Kilusang Bagong Lipunan party against retired Gen. Alejo Santos of the Nacionalista Party. Marcos won by a margin of over 16 million votes, which constitutionally allowed him to have another six-year term. Finance Minister Cesar Virata was elected as Prime Minister by the Batasang Pambansa.

In 1983, opposition leader Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. was assassinated at Manila International Airport upon his return to the Philippines after a long period of exile in the United States. This coalesced popular dissatisfaction with Marcos and began a series of events, including pressure from the United States, that culminated in a snap presidential election on February 7, 1986. The opposition united under Aquino's widow, Corazon Aquino, and Salvador Laurel, head of the United Nationalists Democratic Organizations (UNIDO). The election was marred by widespread reports of violence and tampering with results by the Marcos side.

The official election canvasser, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), declared Marcos the winner, despite a walk-out staged by disenfranchised computer technicians on February 9. According to the COMELEC's final tally, Marcos won with 10,807,197 votes to Aquino's 9,291,761 votes. By contrast, the final tally of NAMFREL, an accredited poll watcher, said Aquino won with 7,835,070 votes to Marcos's 7,053,068. However, the complete NAMFREL count done in 1987 revealed that Marcos would still have won with 10,635,458 against Aquino's 9,853,456.

The fraudulent result was not accepted by Aquino and her supporters. International observers, including a U.S. delegation led by Sen. Richard Lugar (R-Ind.), denounced the official results. Gen. Fidel Ramos and Defence Minister Juan Ponce Enrile then withdrew their support for the administration, defecting and barricading themselves within Camp Crame. This resulted in the peaceful 1986 EDSA Revolution that forced Marcos into exile in Hawaii while Corazon Aquino became the 11th President of the Philippines on February 25, 1986. Under Aquino, the Philippines would adopt a new constitution, ending the Fourth Republic and ushering the beginning of the Fifth Republic. The People's Republic of Zhouran applauded Corazon Aquino.

On September 22, 1972, Ferdinand Marcos, the President of the Philippines, declared martial law. The People's Republic of Zhouran saw this as a chance to bring the Philippines into its sphere of influence and expand Zhouran's influence into Southeast Asia, competing against American and Soviet influence in the region.

On April 14, 1973, somewhere in Cagayan, Jose Mercado Lim, a pro-Yirenweiben supporter, established the National Democratic Party with the support from Zhouran. The party states that "the only way the Philippines can become powerful and prosperous is to start an armed struggle against the Marcos-regime, and kick the American Imperialist Pigs out." The "Philippine People's Armed Front for Peace and Prosperity", also known as "The Front" (Ang Prente), is the armed wing of the NDP, and began its struggle against the Marcos-regime on April 26, 1973, which led to the Philippine Civil War, also known as "The Mass Struggle for the Independence of our Nation" in NDP propaganda. Several pro-Yirenwieben groups in Luzon joined The Front, and as a result, the size of the NDP's armed wing grew from a mere 760 to 3,400. Despite the growth, the civil war remained silent and was rarely mentioned in Philippine media. This was due to Marcos' belief that The Front was too weak to overthrow him.

Meanwhile, Zhouran's State Intelligence Department began conducting covert false-flag operations against the Marcos-regime, in order to weaken his power. The Military Intelligence and Security Group (MISG) and the National Intelligence and Security Authority (NISA) of the Philippines did not know anything about the SID's clandestine false-flag operations, and as a result, they put the blame on Philippine communists. On August 21, 1983, while the Philippine Civil War continued, Zhouran wanted Marcos ousted already, as the civil war was dragging on for too long. A Filipino pro-Yirenweiben supporter, disguised as a Philippine soldier, assassinated Benigno Aquino, Jr. on the morning of August 21, at the tarmac of the Manila International Airport, as part of another false-flag operation created by the SID. The assassination has been credited with transforming the opposition to the Marcos regime from a small, isolated movement into a nationally unified crusade. It is also credited with thrusting Aquino's widow, Corazon Aquino, into the public spotlight and her running for president in the snap election of 1986. Though Marcos was officially declared the winner of the election, widespread allegations of fraud and illegal tampering on Marcos's behalf is credited with sparking the People Power Revolution on February 22, 1986, which lasted for three days and resulted in Marcos fleeing the country and conceding the presidency to Corazon Aquino.

Thanks to the People Power Revolution, and the Philippine military splintered by generals fighting for power, The Front continued the civil war. Although, on November 5, 1986, Corazon Aquino negotiated with Jose Mercado Lim, and both the Philippine People's Armed Front for Peace and Prosperity and the Armed Forces of the Philippines signed a ceasefire agreement. For the agreement and the negotiations to work, Aquino agreed that all American troops should leave the nation, and on November 9, all American troops left the nation.

During the ceasefire period, Zhouran secretly shipped several large amounts of weaponry and supplies to The Front, which was secretly rising in numbers. As for the Philippine military, a number of rogue generals still tried fighting for power. On February 17, 1987, the civil war continued as The Front occupied the northern part of Luzon. In just four days, The Front was marching towards Manila. The Philippine military watched in shock and horror as the northern part of Luzon was under the control of Jose Mercado Lim and his National Democratic Party. By February 22, The Front entered the north of Metro Manila. Desperate, yet determined, units of Philippine soldiers, many of whom had run out of ammunition, dug in around the capital and fought to the death until they were overrun as The Front advanced. By February 24, approximately 46,800 troops from The Front had advanced and began preparing to deliver the coup de grace to the extremely weakened and demoralized Philippine military. On the morning of February 25, Aquino, her family and closest friends left the country and headed towards Guam. Concluding that all was lost, the US evacuated its embassy personnel by helicopter during Operation Pearl Harvest. The hundreds of evacuees included the US Ambassador, other American diplomatic personnel, senior Philippine government officials and their families, and members of the news media, along with tens of thousands of Filipino civilians. Operation Pearl Harvest was the largest helicopter evacuation in history, much larger than Operation Frequent Wind from the end of the Vietnam War.

A number of Filipino politicians stayed, and they chose to share the fate of their people. Their names were not published on the death lists and many trusted the National Democratic Party's assertions that former government officials would not be murdered, but would be welcome in helping rebuild a new Philippines. Later, they were all executed.

On February 26, at eight in the morning, Jose Mercado Lim, through radio, announced that "The Mass Struggle for the Independence of our Nation" has ended, and that the New Philippine Republic has been established with the support from Zhouran. Lim became Premier of the National State Council, was given the rank of Heneralisimo (Generalissimo) in the newly formed National Defense Army, and also became Supreme Commander of the NDA.

[Free Republics]

Had Samuel Izmailov won last year's Consul election instead of Reino Kulseth (OOC: Had Kulsehth and the Holy Party not stolen the election from Izmailov and the United Republica coalition), the Holy Republican Empire would now be known as the Republican Empire. Had this happened, Consul Izmailov would have likely intervened to prop up the collapsing Corvidae nations, bringing them into the Republican orbit. However, the consequences for the rest of the multiverse would not be much different. The Republicans would still be on the warpath and would still be out for multiversal domination. The only difference would be that they would have a slightly different set of allies...

The Stepping Down of the Nzard Following the Gandoor Revolution

What Happened?: Following a non-violent revolution, Nzard William II officially stepped down and dissolved the monarchy of Gandoor, which had existed for almost 300 years. Following this, Gandoor was ruled by an interim revolutionary government for two years until becoming the modern day Democratic Republic of Gandoor in 1904.

What Could Have Happened?: Nzard William II's proposal of establishing a true constitutional monarchy (Gandoor's monarchy had limited constitutional checks since 1885, but the Nzard was not required to listen to what the legislature declared) with the Nzard acting as the head of state and establishing an office of Prime Minister to act as the head of government is approved by both sides of the revolution. Gandoor would be now known as the Constitutional Nzardom of Gandoor (as was proposed by William II) and the current Nzard would be Nzard Johnathan II, the great-grandson of William II. The Constitutional Nzardom of Gandoor would more than likely operate under a free-market capitalist economy, as opposed to the market socialist economy that Gandoor primarily operates under in the OTL.

The Reign of Alexei Petrikov

What Happened?: After Robert S. Stevenson, who held the office of Prime Minister for 30 years, announced that he wouldn't run for reelection in 1940, due to being nearly 73 years old, Alexei Petrikov, a member of the New Democratic Party, became elected as Prime Minister of Gandoor. During Petrikov's 11 year reign as Prime Minister, he effectively turned Gandoor into a dictatorship, complete with an (attempted) cult of personality built around him. He had political opponents arrested and executed (including Stevenson, who was executed in 1942), he attempted to rid Gandoor of religion by closing religious buildings and arresting anyone seen to wear any religious item and forcing them to recant their faith or be sentenced to a forced labour camp, he established a secret police to arrest anyone whom spoke out in protest against his government, and many other crimes against the citizens of Gandoor. Petrikov finally died in 1951 and, while Gandoor quickly returned to the status quo from before he came to power, his actions indirectly lead to the Gandoor Civil War of 1953.

What Could Have Happened?: Stevenson would have run for Prime Minister again in 1940 and won, as he did during the last four elections he ran in. His platform of complete neutrality during the Second World War would have remained in place, as it did during the OTL, and he would continue his policies that he had in place during his previous years as PM, which would lead to economic growth for Gandoor, as well as increase of civil rights for the people of Gandoor. Obviously none of the executions or turning of Gandoor into a dictatorship would have happened under Stevenson's government. Stevenson would then declare that he would not run for Prime Minister in 1946, due to being almost 80 years old. Petrikov, at this point, would attempt to run for Prime Minister again, only as a member of the Revolutionary Socialist Party of Gandoor, which in both the ATL and the OTL he formed after leaving the New Democratic Party in 1942. However, Petrikov (and his party) would gain no seats in the Forum and he would not rise to the office of Prime Minister. Obviously, by extension of Petrikov never having come to power, the Gandoor Civil War would never occur in the 1950's, nor would the economic crisis that resulted from that occur.

The Gandoor Civil War

What Happened?: In 1953, three complete yons (Gandoorese equivalent to states or provinces) and parts of two other yons declared their independence from the Democratic Republic of Gandoor as the Gandoorese People's Republic. Due to the fact that the Gandoorese People's Republic did not follow constitutional procedure when it came to declaring independence, members of the National Army of the Democratic Republic of Gandoor ordered members of the newly established Gandoor People's Army to put down their weaponry and to accept the declaration that the rebellion government and any organizations contained within were invalid under Gandoorese law. However, this erupted into fighting, which led to full-scale war between the two sides of Gandoor. On 2 June 1956, following the National Army of Gandoor's victory at the Battle of Peninsular, a ceasefire was declared for all troops, followed by an official end to the war on 1 July 1956, which officially dissolved the government of the Gandoorese People's Republic and all organizations contained within.

What Could Have Happened?: Premier of the Gandoorese People's Republic, Tsubasa Nakashima's 1955 proposal for peace between the Gandoorese People's Republic and the Democratic Republic of Gandoor was approved by both Prime Minister Junichiro Suzuki and the Forum of the Democratic Republic of Gandoor. This treaty would come into force on 1 January 1956 and result in the official recognition of the GPR as being an independent and sovereign nation by the government of the DRG. While the Democratic Republic of Gandoor would continue on at a fairly similar development to the OTL (although minus the territories that were now the GPR), the Gandoorese People's Republic, due to it's weak and ineffective constitution, would end up as a Soviet-allied single-party state by the mid-1960's. Following several attempted assassinations by those from the People's Republic, the Democratic Republic would officially ban travel to and from the People's Republic in 1974, and would soon enact a trade embargo in 1976, until the Gandoorese People's Republic reestablished a democratic form of government that it had declared when it had established itself in 1953. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the economy of the People's Republic would virtually collapse, due to it relying almost entirely upon trade with the USSR and other Soviet-aligned states. In 1992, protests urging reunification with Gandoor would begin to occur. Unlike previous protests, the People's Republic would not declare martial law or arrest the protesters. In 1993, the Democratic Republic declared it was lifting the 19 year ban on travel to and from the People's Republic, as well as the 17 year trade embargo with the People's Republic. In 1995, three years after the protests started, the governments of both the Gandoorese People's Republic and the Democratic Republic of Gandoor announced that by the end of the decade, the Gandoorese People's Republic would reunify with the Democratic Republic of Gandoor once more. This reunification would occur on 16 March 1997, officially dissolving the 44 year old People's Republic and ending the 44 year separation of Gandoor.

The Beginning of the Lava War

What Happened? Captain Irving N. Stafford and his crew were sent by King Petrus II of Strangoff to the direction of Captain Tusk Chekov's (later King Tusk Chekov) route to the land of Tuskamo to discover the mystery behind his "disappearance". They spied on early meetings of the Kingdom Council and such. However, Stafford had a feeling to aid Tuskamo. And so, he left his crew to join the Kingdom Council. His crew, when they found out about Stafford's betrayal to Strangoff, murdered him for his treachery. The crew sailed back to Strangoff captain-less and told all they discovered to King Petrus. King Petrus, therefore, was antagonized and declared war on Tuskamo.

What Could Have Happened? All the above happened, except the part where Captain Irving N. Stafford's crew slaughtered him and the rest after that event. Instead, Stafford's crew could have understood Captain Stafford and followed their captains footsteps. They never returned to Strangoff. And so, King Petrus was concerned and didn't send another crew to Tuskamo. With that, the Lava War would have never took place. Prince Henry (later King Henry I) of Strangoff would take over his father's place. Tuskamo would have been discovered, and both nations would hold their peace.

Meeting w/ the Native Tuskamocans

What Happened? Captain Tusk Chekov (later King Tusk Chekov) reached the large island that King Petrus II commanded him to explore. He noticed that there were people, who where later to be known as Native Tuskamocans, already inhabiting the area. Though the captain and the Native Tuskamocans couldn't speak to each other at first, the captain gained their trust. He stayed at the tribe of Brŏnkotog until made up a plan to bring willing Strangoffians to the new land, who were tired of the Strangoffian government.

What Could Have Happened? All the above happened, except for the part where the captain gained the Native Tuskamocans' trust and everything after that event. Instead, the Native Tuskamocans could have distrusted Captain Chekov. They would've seen the captain as an intruder. However, instead of harming him, they peacefully sent him back to his own land. Because Captain Chekov hadn't thought of the escaping of the Strangoffians, he only reported to King Petrus about the land and the natives. King Petrus planned a coup to take over the land, but unsuccessfully failed. Tuskamo, then, would have never been founded.

Prime Minister Joubert's Assassination

What Happened? The second Tuskamocan prime minister, Esther Joubert, was assassinated by Édouard Nixon on November 9, 1823.

What Could Have Happened? Prime Minister Esther Joubert, instead, wouldn't have been assassinated, most likely leaving today's prime minister, Daniel D. Rosenberg, without ever being a leader of Tuskamo.

The Republic of California and the Republic of New Alisonia Decide Against Merging

The Federated States of California is the combination of two formerly sovereign republics, California and New Alisonia, colonies of Britannia and the Alisonian Empire respectively. New Alisonia won its independence earlier than California and was a fairly successful democratic republic in southern and south-western Irkhalla (the continent we're on), later when California tried to vie for independence against Britannia, New Alisonia, the Roman Empire and the Kingdom of L'Amerique assisted it in doing so, after the Californian Revolutionary War the two nations discussed at length the idea of merging into one consistent transcontinental federated body. If this decision had not come to pass current Irkhallan politics would not only be different, but it's likely the Adriannic War would not have happened, and that was easily the defining moment of Californian history as it cemented our state as a world superpower. The White Sun Empire might still encompass most of the Adriannic Ocean and a good bit of Tiansha having conquered the Empire of Zhong Wenming in the ninteen thirties and forties.

Beyond that it gets harder to say, while both New Alisonia and California were similar enough to agree to become one, had they have remained independent any number of conflicts between them would've been a mere matter of disagreement and time.

First, if the early settlers had been a little less fortunate, they would have perished utterly and there would be no Samahi.

But even more horrifying is what might have happened if the Federation had been defeated by the Tsalal Empire. People think the Samahi are twisted, but the Tsalal are... well, a description of their culture is not suitable for a family website.

[Stormaen]

In the mid-19th century, Chartism caught on amongst the educated working class of Stormaen. They agitated for home rule, universal male suffrage over 21, abolition of the Legislative Council (then the wholly appointed upper house of the Stormaen General Assembly) and elections every second year. There was a strong republican sentiment amongst Stormaen's Chartists, known locally as "Homers" )due to supporting home rule). If the Homers had gotten their way, Stormaen probably would've ended up similar to the Irish Republic: a parliamentary democracy similar to the UK but without a monarch as head of state.

This was considered as an option in 1907 when Stormaen was elevated to a dominion within the British Empire, similar to Canada, Australia and New Zealand. However, Stormaeners have long supported the monarchy as an institution.

The Water Rebellion of 1992: What if the Government forces lost?

Long story short, a lot of desalination plants blew up and every group that had a bone to pick with the government rallied supporters, made desperate from water rationing, and led a massive revolt against the government. The regime of Nicholas Phisych barely won the ensuing battle.

Had the Phisychian government lost, it's hard to say what would happen. The revolutionaries were made up if a variety of different groups and ideologies and lacked the support of the upper Phisychian class, who knew how the science behind Phisych University's technology worked. Essentially, Phisych University would have to go from an isolated floating city and dock along the closest coast and become a maritime city dependant on water supplies of the surrounding communities. The political, economic and social system of Phisych University would depend on which group(s) won out in the end. Heck, given how high tensions were, the rebellion may have fractured after the government was ousted and the whole University could have ended up abandoned due to all of the irreparable damages and civil strife. Essentially, the city's current geopolitical and economic position would be forever changed or everyone would be dead.
