The authorities in Tallahassee, Fla., on Thursday were investigating an overnight shooting on the campus of Florida State University that left three wounded and the gunman dead.
At a news conference early Thursday, the police said they were trying to piece together the circumstances that led to the shooting at Strozier Library, in the heart of the university campus.
The identity of the gunman has not been released, and the police said the families of the injured were being notified. A Tallahassee Police Department spokesman said all three were being treated for gunshot wounds.
Florida State’s president, John Thrasher, said in a statement that there was no further threat to people on the campus. He said the shooting victims were students.
According to the early morning police briefing, the incident began shortly after midnight Thursday, when a gunman approached Strozier Library, where students were gathered to study, and opened fire. Students inside the library fled or took cover.
The police responded to the shooting about 12:30 a.m., urging students and faculty members to shelter.

This happened sometime after midnight. Apparently the guy was an alumni there, and went to Texas A&M to study law. He was an attorney, to top it all off. To add insult to injury, some idiot in Alabama made a joke about it. I thought there would be a thread about it, but saw nothing of the sorts. I visited this school just a few weekends ago, and I actually went into the library. Never anticipated it would become a crime scene. And it hasn't been so long since the shooting in Washington state. Gun violence is really getting to be a problem, especially in schools. I commend the Tallahassee police for quickly responding, and making sure the only one who wouldn't escape alive would be the gunman.
So, NSG, what are your thoughts? Do you think that gun control would have stopped this, or do you think that it doesn't matter? Do you feel that shootings are happening more frequently, or do you think it's all fear mongering, like Ebola? I think that gun control may have stopped this, but we can't be sure until we know of his mental state. I don't think that the rise in shooting reports is fear mongering, as the FBI has confirmed it.
