Recent problems still held a firm grip over Iran, the problems in Iraq and Afghanistan, the Syrian crisis and the ongoing standoff with the west regarding the Nuclear ambitions. Many, many problems had to get solved. Rouhani had come to power in hope to bring improvement to not only these issues, but also the internal issues that became a problem. During the past few weeks multiple meetings had taken place between the parliment, the president and the supreme leader to solve some of these issues and to adress others. Both Khamenei as Rouhani agreed that chance was necessary to uphold the values and interests of Iran.
Tehran
During the afternoon of the first day of a new year Rouhani held a speech in Tehran about the recently discussed matters of importance. All over the country people had gathered in front of the tv and on local squares to follow the presidential speech.
"Today we mark a new year, a year in which we will show the world that Iran cannot be bullied around, a year in which we will bring Iran back to become a power to be reckon with.
During the past weeks we have discussed several issues that we believe should be put to an end as soon as possible, starting with the rise of the takfiri terrorists calling themselves the Islamic State. The parliment agreed on sending more troops to both Iraq and Syria to help out those in need and to combat these terrorists.
On Afghanistan we agreed to increase our efforts to cooperate with the Afghan government in terms of securing the returning stability in the country.
Internal we have discussed various matters aswell and agreed upon various actions inculding a large scale investigation into corruption, fraude and abuse of the legal system."
After the speech the people where pleased, though they where suspicious about the corruption investigation. They feared that it would only deal with corruption amongst low ranking officials and not those that had significant influence.
Kabul
That same day Iranian officials met with Afghan officials to discuss new possible grounds for cooperation. Iran pledged to invest 50 billion into the Afghan Security, education and welfare sectors. Besides this the officials of the two nations agreed to start working on a common plan to combat the opium production in Afghanistan.
Tehran
With the recent increase of the military budget to 2.3% (of the GDP) The military had once again room for some proper investments. However with the current ongoing activity around the Middle-East it wasn't a matter on which they all focused.
The Military officials had announced new deployments in Iraq and Syria aswell as secret deployments in Lebanon.

Lebanon
