Does your nation speak a language you created?

Postby Abaja » Mon Nov 17, 2014 10:57 pm

Hi. :). I decided to do this topic because I thought that it would be cool to learn about all of the different languages you guys have created for your nation! My created language for Abaja is Gyaanïdé, (GAN-EE-DE), (Or Guanda in English) This language is commonly spoken in the northern part of Abaja, along with Igbo speakers in the southern parts, Arabic in the mid-western parts, and English in the West, East, and Southeastern parts.

Here is a translation

English: Guanda

Guanda: Gyaanïdé

Speech, (In English): Hello. My name is Joseph Hudson, and I live in the country of Abaja. I am also eighteen years old. I am at my last year of Highschool. My mom is a nurse and my dad is a doctor. They earn two thousand dollars a week. I live in the northern part of Abaja, and usually speak Guanda there when I am with people I have not seen before, but I still speak English with my close friends.

Speech, (In Gyaanïdé): Hülé. Oke nuru tele Joseph Hudson, gyalu se nyure ire uipo cuintryó of Ayuaji. Se ym nzru eyeeitien yueré ufe. Se ym iurü
oke luassu yueré of Nyzuskool. Oke musa tele m narusï gyalu oke dasu tele m dosinu. Yurele eirle Y'tu thoyure côshí m weku. Se lyuru iyo uipo nairuatu pertu of Ayuaji, gyalu unenlifu spéte Gyaanïdé teri nytu se hayze nuete tyurofa, com se sile spéte Eingu fuga mu clessa fredezu.

Technically yes
Historia speaks latin, but it is not considered latin but Historian as we borrow many new words from other latin languages, except french, words like computer, television, etc. And many words have two meanings like Historia means in latin and other latin languages history, it also means that in historian but it also means a place of historia. Many historians also call history Istoria which can also be used for the name of historia. But to make the distinction Historia or Istoria the place is pronounced ET-TOUR-RE-A and historia or itoria the word is pronounced ES-TOUR-RE-A.

Also many of the vocabulary is the same like places, colors and animals, but some can be pronounced in the italian and spanish pronounctions as long as the word came from latin.

ooc: yes, The Chadtonian Dialect is based on a currently undevoloped language some of my buddies and I invented in high school called Ib Qua, although IG it is called Chadtonian. I am working on restructuring the language here: http://ibqua.webs.com/ (Public is welcome to view this page). That page is an ongoing work in progress!

Chadtonians also speak English, and English has greatly influenced their particular dialect of the language.

Chadtonian Shcools also offer foreign languages.

Four: Joertjoe, Jarsa, Kartjak and Pandoe (pronunciation: https://translate.google.com/#nl/en/Joe ... n%20Pandoe). Though, I'm currently only actually developing Joertjoe, and am going to base Jarsa and Kartjak on it.

This is what I currently have (note: Netherlands ortography is used when Joertjoe is written with the Latin alphabet):

-dja - philosophical
-sa - noun
-ang - adjective
-do - plural
-da - possessive
-soe - feminine
-woe - masculine

Words:

Rajo(ang) - Great
Partaj(sa) - Party
Tjoe(sa) - People
Sosjal(dja) - Socialism
Tjoebaj(sa) - Republic
Majsado - Herrebrugh (lit. Islands)
Hoj - Yes
Dak - No
Soesa - Woman
Woesa - Man

A sentence (sort of): Sosjaldjaang Tjoesada Tjoebajsa Majsado (Socialist ["Sosjal" carried over from Netherlands "sociaal", -dja for being philosphical and -ang for being an adjective], of the People [-sa for being a noun, -da for being possessive], Republic [-ang for being a noun], Herrebrugh [literally "the Islands"]): Socialist People's Republic of Herrebrugh.

The official languages are both English and French, which of course, are actual. However, the government also speaks Ancient Polar, a not-actually-in-this-real-life-world language, to keep certain topics confidential.

Lydenburg uses an archaic variant of Afrikaans. Where possible, it's derived from my own OC primitive knowledge of the archaic Afrikaans still spoken by Cape Griquas and many of the Nama households in Namibia today. I've always found these microdialects very interesting, because they're clearly not Afrikaans to my ears, but it would be impossible to classify them as anything else. The pronunciations are more like Netherlands Dutch but much of the vocabulary are Khoekhoe words they somehow restructured into Afrikaans.

Due to my limited grasp of Griqua Afrikaans, this only manifests itself in a handful of my IC posts where characters are speaking. The Lydenburger government adopts the more mainstream standard where diplomatic communiques and the like are involved.

I probably would elaborate on Mefpan's language if I could wrap my head around the concept of constructing a language. I'm not sure if "constructed" would be the right word, given that I envision it to be a bastardized mixture of German, Dutch, English, Swedish, Spanish, Italian and a number of Slavic words with a fair measure of a stereotypical kraut accent thrown into the mix on top of German grammar to bastardize the way it's written for good measure.

Which probably means all the pieces to create it are already there for me to use, but I'm too lazy to look them up. Or make an actual comprehensive vocable list.

English: Wintonian is a celtic language heavily based on Proto-Celtic with influences from Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and Welsh. It is not commonly used in Wintanceastre, having historically been persecuted in favour of French, in the French colonies, and English, in the English colonies. It has, however, made a recent come back and is taught in some schools through out the nation.

... Technically, it's split up into three languages. Arkadat, Culdranthine, and Reiltamian.

But I don't put any effort into any of them. Arkadat is just me butchering English, Culdranthine is butchered French-sounding gibberish, and Reiltamian is just a mish-mash of Eastern European-sounding noises.

Yes.

To reflect the Great Migration (which IRL happened during the 3-5th Centuries) and its impact on Themiclesia, I've been in the process of creating 1 continental Celtic, 1 Germanic, and 1 Slavic language. I've varying degrees of completion with those three languages, and the one visible on my factbooks is the Germanic one.

Much earlier, I also worked out a backbone for Mycenaean Greek, which is merely my attempt at an amateurish and not at all academic reconstruction of the lost Mycenaean dialect of the Greek language. It's less of a created language because it has no distinct features, whereas the three mentioned above have sound changes that, should they exist IRL, would make them separate languages from existing ones.
