The Years After (IC)

Postby Scotatrova » Sat Nov 15, 2014 1:22 pm

It is now the year of 2076. Most of the world is now a wasteland. Places that thrived with life are now uninhabited by any person, plant or animal that used to live and grow there. In the year of 2023, nuclear bombs rained down in a war that had engulfed the planet. The development of the atomic bomb brought fire and a terrible, terrible knowledge to mankind. A knowledge for which the final price was....near extinction.

When The United States still existed, there were powers in those days. Russia and China, Japan and Australia and the United Kingdom and all of them on and on. But they are all gone now. Gone, along with most of mankind. Gone, because of the ghastly knowledge that came from the creation of the nuclear bombs.

They called World War 1 the big one. The war to end all wars. The irony of that was, of course, they had no idea what was awaiting them. Mankind fell beneath the one enemy humans were helpless to before. Other humans. Citizens took shelter where ever they could: sewers, subway stations, drainage centers, storm drains.

The initial bombings were the results of terrorists acting outside government mandates. No one wanted war but retaliation was the only possible response. It all spiraled out of control. Millions upon millions of innocent people died as a result of the bombs. The atmosphere was contaminated from the pollutants and ash released by a historically unprecedented amount of fires after the war from the neglect of nuclear and chemical factories and warehouses, to the burning cities.

Parts of Earth were drastically cooled over the course of the war, with the most likely cause being the ash in the air and other pollutants, blocking out the heat of the sun. The collapse of global civilization made it impossible to ascertain the full extent of the damage brought by the nukes. From space there were very clear signs of a global catastrophe. Parts of Western Europe including Spain, France, Britain and Russia received nuclear blasts. Asia and the Middle East are now encased under ice from the nuclear winter. Much of Antarctica's ice sheet is blackened and most of the world's oceans are now a tinted green from the high levels of radiation. The few living things, people or animals that survived the bombings were now forced to live in this new wasteland where all pre-war plant life had died from either the explosions or from the intense radiation.

Now continue your journey through this hellish world

Capital Bunker- New Hope, AR
A midle-aged woman sat in her seat at the head of a table where 15 others sat around her. 4 soldiers stood at the door on each side. She looked at a tv where reports of how the coming winter were begining to refreeze the oceans, The ice-breaker ships were keeping the small ports opens. The roads between the 12 cities were reopening for the coming winter. Plows were being refueled to keep the ice roads ready cleared. Ice-runners, former sailboats had been converted into smaller crafts that were able to slide across the ice when the wind blowed hard enough. The 12 Senators of the 12 Cities all agreed. It was time to call home the ice-breakers and let the ports refreeze and let the roads be used.

"High Primo. The military believes we should brodcast to the world. See if anyone is left. Or are we alone in the world." A military official said calmly to the High Primo who was sitting in her chair at her desk reading reports. Of 500,000 citizens inside the AR, most were elderly. "We need help. More citizens." the officer said lookign at the Primo, "We are slowly dying." she held up her hand, "Announce the radio station to begin operations. And send the research ships to South America and begin recovering supplies. Order the radio ship to send out a radio blast for 2 weeks every hour. If nothing comes back within the month. We cease operations and move to plan b."

Confederate States of America
Jefferson City , Missouri
General Assembly Meeting

"What you do not seem to understand ambassador is that the Confederacy is not required by the existing charter to protect private institutions from Raiders and Bandits. " John Steel the representative from the Confederate Army responded in an annoyed fashion.

"What do you mean ? The charter states that the Confederate Army must protect the people of the Confederacy regardless of if they're working for a private institution or not. Why not simply deploy a Battalion to protect our mines in the area ? " Allen Savory the chief representative from Illinois replied sharply.

"We lack the resources ! " Steel replied loud enough to draw silence from the entire room of Ambassadors.

"Every single one of you demands that the Confederate Army defends not only your Borders , but your towns , highways and now your private means such as these mines. We are barely able to maintain our borders with our current troops numbers. There is a damn good reason why we supply your Milita. " Steel continued.

"Our mines are vital to the entire Nation , you simply can't ignore us , we're far to important for that. " Ambassador Savory repeated yet again as he had many times over the past three hours that all the Ambassadors had been beating the dead horse.

"Gentlemen , We've argued over this for the past three hours and we haven't made any headway as far as a solution goes. Thus as you are all clearly incapable of compromising i have a potential solution. " President Beck said loudly as he shifted his notepad across his desk.

"The Confederate Army will NOT be deploying additional units into Illinois as extra troops are needed more direly along the Kansas and Southern Missouri frontiers. That being said the Confederate Army IS going to be bringing two Divisions from reserve status to active to further reinforce the Frontiers. As for you Ambassador " Beck said shifting his attention to Savory.

"The Confederacy pays a rather hefty price to train and equip the Illinois Milita , maybe if they were patrolling their assigned routes rather than wasting away in Brothels this wouldn't be an issue. " Beck finished.

Silence filled the Assembly room.

Confederate States of America
Operation Zippo
Three Miles outside Joplin , Missouri
Field Command Center

Colonel Hale looked outside of his Command tent as more and more rain continued to fall. The sound of heavy weapons fire echoed clearly though the sound of the rain and the ferocity of the battle were clearly distinguishable from one another. Frustrated Hale turned back toward the assembled officers in his tent.

"Can someone please explain to me , Why the hell we're still sitting outside of the city ? " Colonel Hale announced loudly as he walked back over to the table that had a broad map over it.

"Sir , The Bandit stronghold is much better fortified than Milita units originally suggested. We've been having to fight from house to house and this is the Bandit's city , they know every loop hole and back alley. The Casualties have been astronomical. " Captain O'Reilly replied his voice filled with a grim undertone.

Outside of the tent the roar of a trio of Twin-engine Huey's sank to the ground their skids sinking several inches into the mud. Immediately medical crews sprinted from their bunkers and began unloading the wounded from the back of the Helicopters. Grimly Hale looked back to the table.

"Then level the god damn buildings. Why is this such a fucking problem ?" Colonel Hale responded his voice filling with anger.

"Sir we were given express orders to limit damage to the Civilian buildings. " Captain Welsh protested.

"I Don't give a damn what the orders say , That was General Mason who issued that damn order and he's dead. Now , Captain Marius , Captain Jameson. " Colonel Hale replied.

"Sir" Both of the Armor Captains replied.

"I want both of you to return to your units and regroup with the Fourth and Third infantry Battalions. From there i want you to coordinate and launch an offensive over to 7th Street and continue right onward down the road. . Captain Davis and Farchild you are now given weapons free permission to provide fire support to infantry units. Limit it to the 86mm's nothing larger. Major Tarkin , Take your Battalion and standby to follow up behind the Armor push. Dismissed."

The assembled officers quickly saluted and left to their assigned units. A Few minutes later the dull *whump* s of mortars firing filled the rest of the chaos.

The Palace of Cagery, Egac Salocin, The Holy Land of Absolute Cagery

His Holiness steps out of his sleeping chamber, to see his many wives laying dead on the floor, and a small Indonesian boy cowering in the corner. "That was a WILDDDDDDDD night wasn't it Tak!" Nicholas Cage yells as he crawls over to Tak, the small Indonesian boy. "Uhh, yes. Yes it was my God." replies Tak as he trembles in fear. Nicholas Cage begins to scream and flail his body around. "SHEEP, BRING ME MY SHEEP!" Nicholas screams as he bangs on the wall. A man brings out another Indonesian child dressed as a sheep. "NO. I SAID NO INDONESIAN SHEEP" Nicholas screams as he stabs the child to death. Nicholas begins to drink heavily and repeats lines from Leaving Las Vegas.

The council of Cage enters the room to see the mess Nicholas had made during the night. "YOU GUYS, I HAVE A GREAAAAAAAAT IDEA." Nicholas yells as he spider crawls over to the council members. "And what would that be my God?" Asks one of the council members as he strokes his white beard. "WE WILL GO INTO PAPUA NEW GUINEA, AND CLEANSE THOSE HEATHENS" Nicholas yells as he stands up with a grin a mile long on his face. "Okay, we will get right on it God" replies the Council member as the council begins to leave the room.

"Christ not again, first the Aboriginals, then the lower Australians, then the Kiwis and now the Guineans." Says one of the council members as he sits down and drinks a bottle of ale. "He is god! And his wish will be done, tell the navy to land in Papua New Guinea and kill any survivor they see." Says the head Council member as he leans over to a messenger. "By the way, someone bring me a Indonesian child. I need to kill something." yells the council member while he skulls down his ale.

Khan smelled the cold snow of Siberia which as a kid he liked playing in...but know he is man and he leads a nation.he's first order as king was to setup a radio Chanel for nation's to speak on.he's second order was to connect Siberia to all of the world,on that point he had heard of a nation known as Japan.he had never heard of that name and only vaguely remember's it.was it a pre-war nation? oh well it didnt matter he would send a message to them.he's third order was to sent a expedition west into western Russia if they found a suitable area for a city they would set up.the last thing he did that day is he raised tax's 1% and visited a hospital to get a better public opinion.once that was done he laid back on his royal bed and started dozing off.he had a dream.it...it was pre-war? he was with his dad and mom and they were...walking? he didnt know where.suddenly a loud BOOM was heard.he's parents turned around and gasped.he tried to look but he's parents covered he's eyes.then like a bolt of lightning he's chest started hurting.and he felt some water drip down he's chest.he's parents were crying and screaming but he started seeing black spot's in he's eyes and heard a slight buzzing in he's ears.Khan gasped for air in real life and woke up scared to the bone.he was chilled as he remembered the terrorist attack which caused people to go into the SSV's.he couldn't sleep...

The Ruins of Coventry
English Containment Border

A lone English rifleman had climbed his way up a large, almost mountain like hill, where a suburb of Coventry had once lay. There were 5 destroyed homes in his view, and one of them was a large hillside resort that had a good view of what was below. As he walked across the ruined and ravaged street, passing by piles of debris as he went, he saw something down below him. It was a teddy bear, a burnt, sadly abandoned teddy bear, probably once owned by an English child at one point. Around his neck, he had a small nametag - it read Jack. He breathed heavily through his radiation mask and picked up the bear, looking at it with sadness. It, like everyone in the area, had been utterly mangled by the nuclear missile, which was sent by the Chinese during the time of war. He looked up to see the hellish sky, covered by eternal smoke and ash, the sun almost completely blotted out, as if Mount Vesuvius warped from Pompeii to Coventry and erupted once again. He put down the teddy back to its original spot, and unslung his custom made AK-74, continuing across the atreer to the backyard of the large hillside estate. There was charred grass, which made a crunching sound under his boots as he walked on it and made his way to a decaying and displaced wooden fence with a gate in the center, providing a high-ground view of what remained of Coventry and the surrounding woodlands.

"Lord have mercy..." he said as he saw entirely what had been destroyed in the blast. Suddenly, bullets whizzed into the ground directly to his right side, 3 of them. Then, another burst of 3 bullets impacted the debris of the house behind him. He layed down behind the fence, and crawled into a small crater that had been created by falling debris, and then pulled out his wireless communicator.

"FRIENDLY FIRE, ASSHOLE," he said over the intercom.

A static and garbled voice replied, "No English soldier along the containment border has fired a shot within the last 2 hours, mate. None have requested permission either. Those guys are probably looters. I trust you to take care of them, corporal."

Rumbling came from the distance, and 5 bullets struck the flimsy wooden fence, small popping noises erupting on impact. There was a building that was still standing which had multiple windows, or rather, holes on it that had a clear view of the position of which he was in. He peeked his head up, and almost instantly saw 3 flashes coming from different windows, bullets popping all around him. He dove back down.

"Sir, there's at least 3 of them in there. I need a fire team and a mortar at my position."

"There is already 2 fire teams and a mortar attack squad en route to your area. I can see them from the satellite. They should be coming up on your 6 in a few seconds. Obviously, they knew you were there. You lucked out."

He put down the wireless communicator and looked behind him as 14 men sprinted next to the hole and layed down so they were in less danger. The squad commander looked down and helped him out of the crater. "Where are they," he asked.

"Intact building at our 10'o clock. There are at least 3 of them."

The 12 man fire team, along with the lone rifleman, made their way to the fence, sticking the barrels of their L85s and AK74s through holes and gaps in the fence. The squad gunner, who carried an M240B GPMG, started unloading on the building, and the rest of the fireteam began to pummel it with assault rifle fire. You could see the bullets impacting the foundations of the building, as little clouds of smoke appeared every time you hit it. While the fire teams kept the flashes away and the enemies down, the mortar team prepared it's cannon and began zeroing in on the building methodically. A fragmentation mortar landed on the left side of the building, knocking off some of the wall. A second round landed in front of the concrete structure, not doing any damage but surely disorienting the insurgents. The last round, however, hit perfectly on top of it, caving the roof in almost instantly. The fireteam continued to relentlessly slam the building even as it collapsed and caved in on itself. Armed men who were around the building and helping the insurgents could be seen running from the area, with bullets from the above fire team landing around them now. "Cease fire! Get your arses down this hill, we've got to secure the area."

The now 15 man squad began rushing down the hill, bullets impacting next to them as insurgents watched them run down the hill, unable to return fire. If they were to secure the area of the destroyed building, they would officially secure and conquer what was (unknown to the men) the main base and headquarters area for the Coventrian Insurgency against the English Throne, and finally be able to compeltely retake Coventry and begin the rebuilding process, like whats going on in Manchester and Birmingham and the impacted areas of London.

The Jungles of Papua New Guinea

"Papua New Guinean's litter the landscape, it is our job to stop this travesty." 13:6 Nicolas Cage, Book of Cagevations.

Men, women and children are seen running for their lives as they are mowed down with machine gun fire. Nicolas Cages face is carved into trees and the bodies of the dead Papuans. The Cagian soldiers set fire to everything, they set fire to children, they set fire to villages and they set fire to Papua New Guinea. As this godly crusade is taking place the face of Nicolas Cage is seen in the sky, smiling down upon his children. A tear streams down one soldiers eye as he grins while stabbing a baby to death with a bayonet.

After almost a week of crusading, most of the Papuans have fled into Indonesia or have been killed. Nicolas Cage orders his men to set fire to everything, making sure that the jungles will be burnt to the ground. He also orders his men to poison the river streams, and to drop dynamite in the Volcanoes. A glorious day for the Holy Land of Absolute Cagery.

So the jungles burn, and the one true god rejuvenates. Praise be to Nicolas Cage.

Verkhovna Rada building, Kiev
Slavic Federation

Kozel

Yakiv Kozel could only roll his eyes as the other members of the Council began their usual shouting match over policy. After a while he had simply stopped thinking of the representatives by their names and instead by their cities. Lublin demanded that the army fortify the Western border, but others claimed that they had a limited number of troops and they could not be everywhere. Though the Federation technically had 800,000 troops, less than 100,000 were actually serving in the active force and most of them were from Kiev or Rostov. Each city was required to send a certain portion of their population for military service in the name of the Federation. However since the Federation was not currently fighting, only a token force was kept active, in this case an eighth of the total force allowed.

Rostov was the biggest opponent of the move, that was to be expected. Rostov had become a military minded state after Russia had broken up. It trained its youth to serve and protect the city. Whereas most states used conscripts, Rostov had professional soldiers that served decades in the armed forces. They prided themselves on their soldiers and even earned loyalty from the smaller states like Donetsk and Lugansk by having Rostov soldiers serve in the army in place of native soldiers of the cities. While those actions were in a legal gray area, the army on the other hand was more than willing to take professional lifers over poor conscripts that didn't want to serve. In the end an agreement was reached to place a further five thousand man in Lublin on the condition that Lublin pay for there expenses while they stay. A rich trading state like Lublin was quite willing to agree.

Dobkin

Prime Minister Arsen Dobkin stood up from his seat toward the back of the room where the meeting of the Council of States was being held. It had been the chamber Parliament of Ukraine that fell into disuse after the war. The Slavic Federation had appropriated the building when it had been formed, however the meeting chamber was still rarely used. They dusted it off every so often when the state leader came to argue and pretend like they knew what needed to be done. They met perhaps once a year and argued for hours or even days before deciding almost nothing and leaving it to him to handle.

Dobkin passed by General Pushkin who exchanged as sympathetic nod with him as he went down the steps. He arrived at the podium to being his speech. The state leaders and their aides were arrayed in the first few rows, some taking more seats than they needed. Dobkin looked at Mayor Kozel, the man would get no sympathy from him. Kozel was like all the others, he enjoyed complaining but did nothing to fix the mess. "Ladies and Gentlemen of the City-States of the Slavic Federation, we are pleased to have you here." And will be even more pleased when you leave. "I am sure you have read through the two proposals I have sent to you through your aides." Or more likely had someone read you the notes that they took, sometimes he wondered if certain ones could actually read, he glanced at the Duke of Lublin before continuing. "The first order order of business is continuing talks with Novgorod. I have spoken with our diplomats and the Mayor seems to be coming around." Novgorod was perhaps the last major city state in the east to refuse to join the Federation. If they could convince Novgorod than many other small states in the east would likewise begin folding. The motion was passed, they would just blame him if it failed, like they always did.

Many of the State leaders hated him, and the feeling was mutual, but Dobkin was competent, efficient, and knew how to work inside the Slavic Federation bureaucracy and other permanent offices. Occasionally they did replace him, but brought him back within a year. This was his fourth term in his 12 years of service. "The second has been proposed by General Pushkin. He would like to organize another expedition to Moscow." This attracted some attention from the leaders. The city was hit hard by the attacks. The Federation had tried twice before to establish a base in the city, but angry natives had driven them off, apparently the Moscow Metro had served its purpose. "The General has nominated Colonel Sevestain Asimov to lead the expedition." The leaders agreed and Dobkin stepped off the podium as the next speaker was called. The rest of the conference was a blur, he passed the time by speaking to Pushkin and the head of the Administration, Roman Symanski. Finally the meeting ended and one of his aides brought him a list of proposals that the Council had delegated to him. He sighed as he leafed through the stack, he would have another long night.

There is no honor left in the world. There is no world other than the people living within the Unified Sectors of California. The rest of the United States still remains dark. As well as the rest of the North American continent. Up into Canada, down into Mexico with leveled mountains and destroyed monuments, further down into South America where riverbeds have long dried and the remains of the rainforest are wilted and dead.

Reno
What do you expect Reno to look like after the Nuclear Holocaust? A devastated crater where the shells of buildings still stand? It is nothing like that. It is now the flourishing capital of the Unified Sectors of California. It along with most of Nevada are still intact.

"What do you propose we do about the gangs in the Northwest of Sector-C sir? They have gotten completely out of control and have claimed a piece of land for themselves. Our enforcement there has been taken down and laws eradicated. What is our move?''

President John stood before telling him "Send in as much men as you can and shoot all those damn gangsters and get the area back under our control."

"Yes Great Unifier. Right away." The man walked away leaving John to stare out over the capital city of Reno. After uniting the Southwest, he has since been referred to as the "Great Unifier". He liked that title. It would hopefully prevent anymore gangs and packs to take over any part of the Sectors of California.

Sector-C or once known as the great state of California is under heavy pressure as many rogue gangs are causing chaos throughout the state. Many are told about the hollowed out shell of the City of Los Angeles. A massive crater in which the buildings were burned down to their metal skeletons and millions of human skeletons litter the streets. The radiation is so thick that a cloud sits over the still burning Hollywood Hills once home to the Hollywood Sign now just scattered pieces of burned wood on the mountain. Many traders are told to avoid the "Valley of Radiation". But not all Californian cities burned. Sacramento and San Jose remain intact considering San Jose's location to the crater of San Francisco.

Salt Lake City and Albuquerque remain large population centers while others like the mile high city of Denver and the inferno of Phoenix remain smoldering, desolate hell holes. Literally.

Crescent City
The area of Crescent City is being used as the stronghold for the "Brown Bears'' a gang that has members spread throughout the sectors and the most well known. Their fun has just been interrupted by the sounds of gunfire and marching. From the East came the soldiers taking back the city from the gang. It lasted a full 4 hours before all Brown Bear members were either killed or fled during the attack. The city citizens were then given food and water. The soldiers stood in the area for the night to prevent anymore attacks from other gangs or factions.

War. War never changes.
~Ron Perlman, Narrator of Fallout

In the year 2023, Rome was hit by a Nuclear Bomb. It left the population rampant, eventually leading to the collapse of the entire nation.

Today, the Remnants of Rome stand with a large crater in the center oozing with radiation and taint. The radiation has dropped in the outskirts of the city, allowing access to the multiple groups of raiders, scavengers and slavers which plague the capital like pests. However, today was also the day which the NSR plans to lead a full invasion into it.

Hollow Point/Vuoto Base

Don Vincent sat in his chair by his makeshift desk, looking at the screen of his laptop whilst stroking his beard. He was in a large army tent, just one out of a hundred. The campsite was located just about four kilometres from the edge of the old capital. Even from here, through the open doors of the tent, the sky glowed a faint orange from the battle occurring the in the city. Don Vincent took a small glance outside the tent before returning his gaze back to the device.

On the screen displayed a current report on the NSR troops onslaught into the capital. It was quite a feat the NSR still could use digital networking to send messages; for as they had the technology too. They could still use the satellites which continued to circle the Earth till this day. Sometimes the signal would be faint, but however it was better then nothing else. These now rare devices come from Sicily, the region of Italy wich had been untouched from the nuclear war, only having to endure a nearly permanent nuclear winter from all the fallout. Anyways, The report on the blue screen stated the following:

'Campitelli: CAPTURED and SECURED
Esquilino: CAPTURED and SECURED
Palatino: CAPTURED and SECURED
South Pigne: UNDER SIEGE
'

'The soldiers must've captured the Colosseum' he mused to himself.

To confirm this, Don Vincent used his mouse to change windows on the monitor. A map now popped up. It was rather detailed, and came from a top pespective. It showed about hundred red diamonds, and after each second the the diamonds moved about half a centimeter on the display. This was the various trackers just placed on about one-tenth of the troops currently part of the invasion. Vincent saw that the included sectors had been taken, just as stated in the email from Capo Gino. He also saw an influx of diamond markers in the south of the Pigne section in the main city. Troops couldn't move any more northwards as they were on the edge of the famed radioactive crater; on the map this took up most of northern Rome.

The reason why the NSR wanted Rome was simple: In the south of the city lay way to many brilliant resources, such as factories, laboratories and many warehouses which had been failed to be opened by the countless rogue clans that roamed the streets. Further plans included turning the shattered remains of the Colosseum into a trade hub right at the east of the city. Don Vincent smiled to himself, the operation was going ahead perfectly. At this rate, they should take the city in about three-four days. He would make sure that the fighting soldiers were rewarded properly for the success of this mission. It was important for family members to look out for each other.

Just then a sudden vibration occurred in the waistcoat of the man. This caused him to jump a little, before quickly picking out his phone from the pocket. The name 'MarioAlessio' was shown on the small display of Vincent's mobile phone. This signified the importance of the entirety of the operation. Securing the old city of Rome would lead to many opposing parties to flee further upwards in the land, and would leave most of the region Lazio to be claimed and annexed by the NSR. Anyone who stayed within the region, as well as who shook hands with the NSR were immediately welcomed into the family. They were given the protection they wanted, so that they could live in peace. They were given this, in-exchange for their loyalty to the NSR and their main goal: 'To restore Italy back to its former beautiful glory!'.

Vincent smiled to himself before picking up the phone.

"I report the invasion as a success, we are making quick and steady progress, Godfather Mario!" He said into the phone, voice filled with pride over what has been already accomplished.

Monaco,
Bazzar, Ground Floor

Life at the Trade hub was busier then usual. There had been more then the average amount of caravans arriving at the gates of Monaco, offering their wares to the m,multiple of characters who either entered Trade post or walked past back into the depths of old France. Guards from the NSR ranks were positioned at every-door, holding Galil's to their chests. One couldn't trust any of the visitors who hid many weapons under their clothing. At one of the Gun stall's, a fight had ignited out between the stall owner and a shady character. This was quickly put out though, from the military might of the NSR troops. They even had installed cameras which watched this particular building twenty four hours each day. Even with all of this, no-one still took notice the hooded figure who stayed in the shadows.

Almost 53 years after Mexico City was leveled, the country was still recovering - vast portions of the country were still desolate, barren, wasteland. However, in the midst of all this chaos, a strong central government was able to come into power of most of Latin Central America.

Although the Mexicans have little to no idea of what the rest of the world is like, and has barely made any actual contact or attempt at diplomacy with neighboring nations, the Central American Union still is able to function, and bring law and order to the peoples.

The country today is plagued by thieves and bandits, and groups of those are ever so prevalent in the wasteland, where military influence is negligible. Bandit and gang factions often attack towns and even, if in sufficient numbers, cities, where they participate in clashes and small battles with the military and police.

-------------------------
Bunker 51, Gloria
The Greater Central American Union

Bunker 51 - the chosen place of residence for the Supreme General and some of the upper echelon officials of his government, including the Vice Chancellor, Head of the Advisory Council, and the Head Marshal. It was located off the outskirts of a large town - Gloria, meaning Glory - several miles away from the nation's capital, New Mexico City.

Today the general, his closest advisors, Head Marshal, and Vice Chancellor are convening to discuss several problems that face the government.

"Surely, Supreme General, you realize the threat those scumbag gang members and bandits pose to our merchants, craftsmen -" One Councilmember declared angrily, before he was interrupted by Tito.
"Of course I do!" He remarked angrily "But as of right now we cannot spare the military to help defend these routes; the Federation is massing on our borders, and our intelligence leads us to believe they may launch an offensive."
"Supreme General, I propose that major trade routes should be protected and given the higher priority, especially routes going from city to city. Smaller trade routes going to small cities and towns should also be protected, but I agree that we cannot protect all of them," The Vice Chancellor said matter-of-factly. He took a long sip out of some sort of canteen.
"Yes, yes," The Supreme General waved impatiently, "I was also thinking along the lines of that. We should have reservists, rather than experienced military professionals, to help defend those lines."
"Supreme General," The Head Marshal spoke up quietly, " If all our reserves, or if the amount I'm thinking will have to go to be able to sufficiently protect those routes, are called to duty and assigned to protect those trade routes, then we will have a disadvantage in the situation that the Federation does invade."

"Are you underestimating the capability of our soldiers? I believe that our current force on their border are quite capable of tackling the Federatiom if the situation calls for it." The General replied arrogantly. "If our trade routes in the nation are constantly attacked, and we do nothing to defend it, then major sections of the nation will not be able to receive the aquedate numbers of food and supplies to survive. This has already caused problems in some areas of the nation, such as the regions of Honduras and Nicaragua, where the local population has begun dying out from starvation."

"Also, while we are on the subject of gangs and bandits, there is another major problem that I would to address - the Villistas movement, in the State of Jalisco. It has grown larger and has profited by attacking trade routes and raiding towns. It is particularly strong in the ruins of what once was Guadalajara, and has influence throughout Jalisco. I am sure you, as Supreme General of the Union, know that we have attempted two expeditions into the ruins of Guadalajara to try to destroy the main base of operations of the Villistas - both of which were unsuccessful and resulted in heavy casualties for the Mexican Army. It controls much of Eastern Jalisco, and often terrorizes the people living in the State - the Movement is also guilty of using child soldiers, burning down innocent villages and towns, and forcing women into prostitution." The Head of the Council spoke. He paused, waiting for it to sink in as he leaned comfortably in his chair.

"The Villistas..." The Supreme General muttered the word with disgust, "Have you and your Council been able to gather accurate numbers for the size of the Movement?"

"Yes, of course, Supreme General," The Head of the Council replied, "But our...um, sources vary. But based off our current intelligence and information, we estimate they number around 2,000-2,500. They like to employ hit-and-run tactics and during our attacks against them would often use unconventional strategies - in other words, they are cowards who have killed many of our countrymen."

"Hmmm." The General seemed to be pondering on this as he faced the Head of the Council. "Raise a militia of 2,000, most, if possible, from the towns and cities from Western Jalisco. I want an extra 1,000 reservists and 200 experienced soldiers on our border with the Federation, and along with the militiamen, launch a two pronged assault from Guanajuato and Western Jalisco. They should be organized into small groups of 20 at the most, and move stealthily into their territory. The exact details of this...plan to eliminate the Villistas will be sorted out later."

"That seems to be an excellent plan, but the Villistas are not the only major gangs in the Union..."

The Shores of Taipei, Taiwan

The radiation has finally cleared from the island of Taiwan, the 1 million survivors submerge from there bunkers. The survivors take up residence in Taipei, the formal capital of Taiwan. They have created farms and water supplies, all seems good. But this morning is different, boats are seen off in the distance off the coast of Taipei, the survivor goes and tells the other survivors but it's already too late. The Cagian army has landed on the shores, the sherman tanks are rolling down the streets and the P-51D Mustangs are flying through the skies.

"No use fighting, Taiwan has already seen enough death. Let's go see what they want." says the leader of the Taiwanese survivors. He approaches two soldiers that are walking through the streets, in his broken English he asks the soldiers a question. "Ah, hello, may I ask what is your business in Taiwan?" The soldiers turn to him and explain what The Holy Land of Absolute Cagery is, and they then tell them that Taiwan will now be annexed. The Leader is shocked, but agrees that annexation would be the only peaceful outcome. All the survivors meet at a theater in Taipei as the soldiers begin to set up outposts in Taipei.

"It appears that these people are here to annex Taiwan, normally I would ask you to resist these people but it seems they are armed to the teeth and rebellion would be futile. For the time being I suggest we don't resist and accept annexation." says the leader to the crowd. The crowd remains silent but then agrees. The Taiwanese survivors return to their homes, walking past Cagian soldiers. They have gloomy looks on their faces, and appear to be upset.

Before too long the soldiers are recruiting Taiwanese survivors into the Cagian police force, and give them instructions to keep the people in Taipei in line, while the soldiers continue to set up outposts. The annexation is complete, and another land has become part of The Holy Land of Absolute Cagery. Egacs (Priests) arrive in Taiwan to convert the Taiwanese to the true faith of Cage, and some Taiwanese survivors join the military.

Nicolas Cage recieves the news, and becomes extremely excited. He orders his guards to bring him an Indonesian boy to murder, the guards oblige and bring him a child. He rips the boys head off with his bare hands and then carves Taiwan into the boys chest. The guards seem to be shocked by Nicolas's actions, but they didn't think he would let the boy live. The news of Taiwan's annexation is received across The Holy Land of Absolute Cagery, and the Cagians rejoice.

53 years after the fall of the old Union, a new United States has taken its roots and spanned across the territories where the Old United States took her roots, now, the New United States has her official inauguration of the 1st President of the New United states of America.

New Washington City

American soldiers march in ranks on the old roads of New Washington City, marching pass cheering Crowds nearer the Capitol building, where Newly President, John Buchanan waits to be sworn into office, and give his inaugural speech to the people of New Washington City, or in other terms, the American people. As the soldiers marched pass the Capitol building, the national anthem, Hail Columbia, began to play, to signal the beginning of the Inauguration. As the crowd began to quiet down, a Chief Justice of the New United States, Bert McVean holds up the bible, and President Buchanan puts his hand on it, then Chief Justice McVean begins to speak.
"John Buchanan, Do you solemnly swear that you will faithfully execute the Office of President of the New United States, and will to the best of your Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the New United States.
" to which Buchanan replied with a simple, "I do"
As the Chief justice stood down, Buchanan faced the crowd, and pulled out a piece of paper from his Over-Coat, and began to read.
"My fellow Americans, today, we begin to take back the lands of the Old United States, to restore the Federal Union of 50 States of the old world, and to show that the American people are still as powerful as they were back in the days of old. We shall rebuild the Industrial might of the Union, along with the Army and Navy, and to always extend Liberty and Justice for all to the less fortunate, and to overthrow the Heads of States that abuse there power and harm there People, today, the United States is reborn!" as President Buchanan stepped down from the podium, the crowd cheered and sang a song as a whole from the days of old, The Battle Cry of Freedom

Norfolk, Virginia

American marines and Engineers, dressed in their Uniforms which bare a close resemblance to the designs from the 1860s-70s, began to scavenge Norfolk harbor for any valuable resources that may still may be of use to the New Union. As they begin to enter the actual harbor, they come across a 'Graveyard' of old ships that could possibly be scrapped for the New United States Navy and Army, which uses old fashion Weapons and vessels such as Steam Ships, Muskets, Gatling Guns and Parrot Guns (Cannons) and more, but the most intriguing piece of Pre-War military Naval vessels, was an old Nuclear Submarine, which may still bear a Nuclear bomb or war head. Do to the possibility of it still being armed, the Commanding Officer of this little 'Expedition', Brig. Gen. Adam W. Hoary, wrote back to New Washington City to ask for permission to explore the Sub, and possibility, a group of Scientist who understand Nuclear Weapons.

Kyoto, Japan
The Shōgun of New Japan sat as his desk, looking at his new office. It has taken years, but the rebuilding has payed off.
"We need allies, we can't exist in this world alone. General Miyamoto, start up the radio. Maybe we can get some contact with other nations." Shōgun Watanabe said. He hoped he could get contact with one of the nations.
"The radio is now up Shōgun." Miyamoto said after he started the radio.
"Good, now give me a second." Shōgun Watanabe said as he brought the radio closer to him.

Hello.....his is the nati..... New Japan....... Nyone out ther.......

Shōgun Watanabe turned off the radio and turned in his chair towards General Miyamoto.
"I hope someone helpful receives this message. I don't want a war this early after rebuilding." Watanabe said.
"Me too Shōgun." General Miyamoto said. They then both began talking about the hope of alliances.

Sergeant Henderson winced several times as bullets shattered portions of the concrete wall he and the rest of his unit had taken cover behind.

"You think that they would've run out of ammo after all this damn shooting!" a young Private who was manning the Squad's M240 machine gun. In an almost poetic end to his sentence the throaty roar of the M240 began chattering loudly and almost on queue the rest of the platoon's weaponry opened fire. Across the street at an old pre-war McDonald's. To the right of the platoon the heavy grinding of tracks tore though the thick sound of battle as an M60 Patton came to a rough stop at the intersection. The bullets sparked off it's armor uselessly as the turret traversed to face the McDonald's where the main enemy bastion of fire was. A few tense seconds passed before the 105mm cannon shook the air and the round tore apart the entire front half of the building.

As ringing left Henderson's ears the Platoon leader's voice rose out of noise.

"Move up! , Use the tanks as cover ! ".

A Trio of M60 Pattons continued to roll forward spewing out Machine gun fire mixed with the occasional cannon round gutting a building that house some form of concentrated enemy troops. Behind the tanks nearly three infantry platoons who'd be pinned down by multiple enemy positions streamed from the ruins though the thick rain.

"Good hit " Captain Marius said as the front face of the McDonald's crumbled from a HE round.

"Driver , Forward thirty yards. Gunner target one o'clock , Loader One HE."

There were was a split second of relative silence inside the tank before the various crew members called out their ready.

"Target Acquired. " The Gunner called.

"FIRE!" Marius shouted. In that moment a loud boom rocked the tank as another 105mm round left the barrel.

"Good hit!" Marius shouted as he watched a Bandit Machine gun position disappear into a cloud of smoke and debris.

"Hold fire on main. " Marius continued.

Quickly Marius climbed his commander's seat to a standing position where he was looking out of the exaggerated Commander's Cupola and his hands gripped the butterfly triggers on the fifty caliber machine and began sending tracers down the street in a rather careless manner. Along side either side of the Patton Confederate Infantrymen stayed close to the sides of the street not daring to stick their necks out for more than a second.

Finally , the Confederate Army was making progress in the Siege of Joplin.

Primary Staging Area for Southern Operations

Due to the escalating tension over the Mississippi river the high command of the Confederate Army based out of St. Louis had deemed it a proper to plant a significant portion of the Confederacy's Military power in the area.

Across the staging area a Dozen tanks had been called up , it represented nearly an entire third of the Confederate Army's available numbers. Along side that the entirety of the Confederacy's operational air power was present at this base. All Six F-4 Phantom's sat patiently in their hangers. Two old C-47 cargo planes sat on the tarmac as air crews quickly unloaded the cargo that had been flown down from factories in Illinois. The entire base was absolutely bustling with activity as the total garrison was spending the vast majority of it's time increasing it's overall size many times over in the past several months. What the next months would hold was entirely unknown.

Boise, Idaho

President Martin Kershaw poured his second glass of scotch. Secretary of State Roland Marshall stood across the former's office and looked out over the burgeoning Cascadian capital of Boise. Spared from Nuclear fire, It had been the obvious choice, as both Vancouver and Portland were coastal ports when a more inland capital was desired. It now boasted a population of nearly 50,000.

Marshall turned to glance at the scotch-swigging Kershaw. A ragged beard graced the President's face, giving him an almost wild look. He rarely had time for cosmetic dressing these days.

"So . . . these 'Federation' fools? What are you going to do about them?"

Kershaw put down his scotch and frowned. "I'm not going to do anything. They leave us alone, we'll leave them alone, plain and simple. Maybe we'll send Rao their way and offer a trade agreement or something."

Marshall nodded. "And the Canadians?"

Kershaw's frown deepened. "I think the former Canadians in Vancouver Province understand themselves to be Cascadian now. That's the way it's been for quite a few hairy winters. I'd dearly like to have Alaska though, so we'll take this a step at a time. In the meantime I'm sending some men to establish relations."

Clinton, British Columbia

Two M113s raced through the little logging hamlet, which remained virtually unchanged from the horrors of 2023. The little convoy turned onto the old cracked Caribou Highway, passing an abandoned diner that marked the northern extreme of Cascadian control in former Canada. The two squads of men on board the M113's knew that some sort of nation was around in Yukon. As to the nature of their reception, of that they were entirely uncertain.

Ashland, Oregon

Sergeant Robert McCowell tracked the column of advancing soldiers with his M14 rifle. Perched inside the ruins of a two-story home, the sergeant was perfectly hidden among dozens of such homes. The small remaining human populace had been evacuated hours before upon learning of the columns of foreign soldiers marching north from California. He pulled out a detonator from a knapsack next to him and slammed the button. Cracked pavement fifty yards ahead of the column was blasted into powder; a sizable crater put in the road. It was too distant to hurt any of the advancing men yet quite obvious enough to halt their progress.

Novgorod
Republic of Novgorod

Ivan Yezhov, Ambassador of the Slavic Federation read through the message that had been given to him several times before called out to his secretary, Irina Kazakova. "Call the President's office and try to get me a meeting."

The young woman nodded at the order and left the room to make the call. She came back in less than five minutes later with a paper in her hand, "You will meet the president for lunch at noon." she said as she handed him a piece of paper with an address on it.

Ivan looked at the clock, 10:32 am, he had some time. He quickly scanned the contents of the letter before folding it up and putting it in his coat pocket. "Thank you my dear, I will be sure to get you a bonus for this. Provided the meeting goes well."

"I wait with baited breath. Shall I have Fyodor bring the car around?"

"Not yet, I have some things to set in order." Kazakova nodded and left the room. Ivan sat back at his desk and began getting some papers in order.

At a quarter past eleven, Ivan emerged from his office with a briefcase in his hand and his coat already on. He nodded to Irina as he left the room and out the door toward the entrance. The soldiers on duty saluted to him as he passed, Ivan nodded to them in kind. He took his hat off the rack next to the door and proceeded outside. Standing next to his car was Sergeant Fyodor Tamarkin, his driver and sometimes bodyguard. "Irina told you where we are going?"

The Pskovian Sergeant merely nodded and opened the door for him. Many of the people in the embassy were from Pskov including Ivan himself. As the closest city to Novgorod, it seemed natural to send people who could understand the language and culture of the city, and who better than the old rivals of the Republic?

President Igor Glebov met Ivan at the door of the restaurant. Ivan had arrived a few minutes early and seemed to have gotten the President as he too was arriving. He raised his hands and embraced the diplomat, "Ivan! How have you been my friend?"

"FIne, thank you Igor." Ivan responded. Ivan and Glebov had stricken up a friendship of sorts through all the years that they had known each other.

"Come, let us have a seat." Glebov motioned to the waiter to lead them away. He led them to a table on the second floor off to the side away from anyone who would listen in. Ivan saw Fyodor and Glebov's men sit at the bar each watching a different direction. It seemed like they were not the only ones here. Many of the men at the bar seemed to be doing the same. "I love this place. They have some of the best fish in the city." The waiter offered Glebov a menu, the President refused it. "Just give me the usual."

The waiter inclined his head in a short bow before turning to Ivan, "the same for me." Ivan said before the man could offer a menu. The young waiter did another small bow before leaving.

"So," Glebov began as soon as the waiter was out of earshot. "What plan has the Federation concocted this time to woe me? More talk of Trade rights? Protection? What?" Glebov had been president for almost a decade, he had heard almost everything that the Federation could offer, until today.

Ivan leaned in, "I have received word that the Federation is launching a trip to Moscow soon."

"And?" Glebov feigned disinterest, but Ivan knew he was interested.

"As you know, Moscow has no true government and the same is true for St. Petersburg. If we were to claim the cities, someone would need to administer the surrounding land."

Glebov was almost salivating at the prospect. Novgorod controlled both the old Novgorod and Tver Oblasts (Tver, while a small city, was also home one of Old Russia's largest air bases and thus a major target. They had long wanted to expand into the Moscow and St. Petersburg areas, but the Federation had blocked such attempts. Joining the Federation now would mean that Novgorod would expand into long coveted territory, however Glebov also knew that if they did not and the annexation succeeded then it would mean that the areas would be closed off forever. Suddenly he began to laugh. "Well played Ivan, well played. I will take it to the City Council after lunch."

"I leave it to your wise counsel, Mr. President." Ivan responded.

Glebov snorted a little before he motioned a waiter over. "Bring us your finest vodka, we have cause for celebration." The waiter was older than the first one, he looked between the two before he smiled and walked away. Ivan watched him retreat into the kitchen just as the first waiter arrived. The young waiter walked over to the table and placed the dishes on the table, it was fish. Glebov smiled at Ivan, "Dig in, it will taste even better with vodka."

Moscow Wasteland
Sevestain Asimov took another long puff of his cigar before he tossed it out the window of the moving truck. He was not sure why he had been chosen to lead the mission, nor did he care. But the Smolensk native new that he should not question such things. He felt the truck decelerate as they entered the Kuntsevo District. This was where the entrance to the place should be.

He nodded to his driver as he adjusted the his gas mask and stepped out of the truck. The rest of his unit followed suit. They were some of the best each of the seven big cities had to offer. He turned to the five company commanders that had accompanied him, each would lead a two hundred man detachment into the metro to collect valuable information. Each of them was a fearsome commander.

His second in command Lieutenant Colonel Stanislav Koval would lead a joint-Kiev/Brest/Lviv unit. The three cities had opted to combine into two companies rather than send three separate ones. Koval was one of the few survivors of the second mission and his experience would be very valuable here. The commander of the other joint company was Mikhaylyna Dyachenko, her father had been commander of the second unit and she was more than ready to avenge him. The next man was Jozef Novak, a young but experience Polish officer from Lublin. He had some to understand that Novak was a well known hero in Lublin for putting down a rebellion against the Duke.

That left the other two Russians in the party. First was Leonid Yudin. The man looked like a university professor with his glasses and poised lock, and to be fair he was one, a professor at the Pskov Military Academy, one of the best in the world. He had served the Federation well for twenty years before he retired to a desk job teaching new minds. Asimov had heard rumors of Yudin, he had been a scary strategist that had destroyed many opponent moments before they had thought they would achieve victory.

The last member was the unit's third in command, Artyom Reznov. This was the one that Asimov had heard the most about, Reznov's parents had been killed while he was young and as a Restovian without any family, he had become a ward of the state. From the age of seven Reznov had been trained to fight and kill, something that his service record wholly agreed with. Asimov was sure that Reznov have been handsome once, but two decades of training and service had left with many scars the most prominent being that he was missing most of his left cheek keeping revealing teeth and gums. The man wore a large overcoat to cover it up along with the rest of his burns and scars.

Asimov turned back to the troops. "You all know you jobs and why we are here. Nothing more should need to be said." Asimov had never been one for long speeches, he left that to the politicians, these were professional soldiers and he would treat them as such. He turned to Yudin who had been put in charge of the engineers, "blow the door."

The other man nodded and motioned to his troops. A series of large booms followed as the doors were blown off their hinges. Asimov motioned the scouts in who were followed by the rest of the unit.

KANSAS-COLORADO BORDER PATROL

The bored men sat atop their vehicles with bored expressions on their faces. Their M4 Rifles were between their knees or sitting by them. Their JLTV armoured vehicles sat in the burning sun, their MG's just as dusty as everything else in this god forsaken desert. Their job was chalked up to guarding the agricultural heart of the nation, because in this time, food was gold. The bored expressions of these men only changed when the site of foreign soldiers forced them to jump from their vehicles and grasp for their rifles. Ushering the farmers away, they got behind their defenses and called out to the soldiers. " Hey! Halt!."

COLUMBUS, OHIO- INDUSTRIAL HEARTLAND

Every since the establishment of their Federation, the main focus of Otto and his administration had been the restablishment of the nations industry. So under the Factory Funds bill, 180 Heavy and Light industry factories had been opened in the more agricultural states and factories were being rebuilt in the east where factories where common. The Union railway, a winding and extensive system of railroads had worked to connect almost every city in the Federation so goods could be passed easier, and a highway system ( mostly for the military ) was in the process of being refurbished.
What don't you understand? I CAN'T DIE!
As if that gives you an excuse to live.

Oregon
The soldiers stopped at the sight of the explosion and ducked. One called out "Hey! Is anyone out there?! If you are, show yourself!"

Kansas
The soldiers heard a sound and turned to see border patrol officers. One tried to get their attention and waved his hands "Hey! Over here!"
