Socialist discussion thread

Postby Dejanic » Fri Oct 31, 2014 8:50 am

I've seen lots of people round these parts call themselves "Socialists", so I think it's a good idea for us to have a thread of our own, so we can internally discuss the ins and outs of Socialism.

Contrary to what's espoused by Conservatives and others on the right, Socialism is a diverse economic ideology, there's more of a difference between a state directed socialist system and a market socialist system than there is between a typical "Liberal" economic system, and a "Conservative" economic system.

So welcome all, the first point of discussion will be, "what economic system do you support", as was stated before, Socialism is a very broad economic system, and their is many different conflicting ideas on what a Socialist system should look like.

Personally, I'm more of a Social Democrat myself so for the time being I support a mixed Capitalist system, though I do support a very long term transition into a Socialist society, I'm personally unsure as to what economic system I favour under Socialism, but I could see a mixed one combining market socialism with state socialism for certain sectors like healthcare and energy working well.

I'm all for regulated capitalism. Of course, market socialism isn't THAT bad, as well as mixed systems.

I support Prussian/Guild/Market Socialism, and also Social Conservatism.

As for the political compass, I'm a Far-Left Social Authoritarian.

Market Socialism is pretty much Capitalism, except the businesses are workers co-operatives.

Market Socialism is good. It uses the free market, and workers co-operatives to do something good.

Pretty much. Most syndicalists and market socialists could also be called communists as they mostly just differ on how to achieve communism.

Radical politics are the only rational politics. Liberal revisionism refuses and denies criticism or deconstruction of the origins of institutions, their ownership, and their ethos as organizations. Anarchism is really the only acceptable, just response to hierarchy.

Hence why I made it so one can vote twice, if one is a Communist who supports State Socialism as a transition, then they can vote for both.

One of the biggest aspects of Syndicalism is the abolishment of the wage system, so whilst Market Syndicalism (a fusion of the two theories) can exist, pure syndicalism is against money and markets.

Wait, if syndicalism abolishes wages, what do the workers get for their effort? Land?

But more than two options are applicable in the case of an anarchist syndicalist who supports decentralised planning as part of a communist society.

Also, syndicalism does not necessarily abolish the wage system.
