Your thoughts on Transhumanism

Postby Novia Soviet Socialist Republic » Thu Sep 25, 2014 4:40 pm

Now I'm a Transhumanist. I believe the human body is imperfect and in need for some changes. Whilst in this day and age it isn't really that impressive, being limited to pacemakers and these clumsy robotic limbs. In the future however, it is speculated there will be some great advancements in robotics, prosthetics and genetics.

As seen on the future timeline here it is predicted that a bionic eye that can see in HD will be out for around 2019.

Now what I want to know is what do you think about transhumanism? Do you have any objections, worries or hopes for it? Some people object to it on religious grounds or worries that the government will use this to intrude on them. Some crazy conspiracy theorists like Alex Jones believe that the Illuminati will use Transhumanism to take over the world or something. But what do you think?

We're as good as were already were.
I really see no reason to implant robotics unless we want to jump so high that when we land on a person they get crushed.

I fully support transhumanism, though I am dismayed by the fact that many proponents of it often take the techno-utopian approach of claiming that technology will solve all of our problems without looking at the social and ecological concerns that will still be present.

But why not allow ourselves to become more disease resistant?

It's fine, as predictions for the future go. However, I find it absolutely silly that people seem to think we'll be singing Kumbaya with our robotic hands clasping those of our neighbor.
