You'll notice occasionally the population figures may mention some of the population being "dead" or "zombies". This is simply a mistranslation made by our Quilspeak to English translators, some of the population occasionally temporarily transforms into poison/ghost type variants of Quilavas at this time of year, but they are still alive, well and cute and friendly as ever. :3
