Citizens all across the Haven are fleeing en masse to the nations boarders, coasts and airports today as the supreme court voted in a tight 5-4 decision against the government's plans to institute martial law. Although it is known all across the world now that a zombie apocalypse, caused by radioactive server hamsters is imminent, Conservatives today ruled that the Havenic constitution prevented the Government from raising the police presence in key areas.
Associate justice Clara Thomens, writing for the majority, claimed that 'This is simply what the zombies wish the Haven to do,' and that 'we cannot provide security to our citizens at the expense of the liberty which is all that separates us from other, less civilised states.' Joining her, Associate justice Sammy Wito likened this with other court judgements: 'The Haven has always taken a stand against such barbaric things as CCTV, police sting operations and checkpoints outside of compounds which should be high-security. In our minds, a few more casualties is just the price we must pay to keep our prescious liberties alive.'
Speaking outside the court room, one angry protester told HBC news that if Sammy Wito believes that higher casualties are a sensible price to pay, Mr. Wito can be the first to stand in front of the rampaging zombie horde.
Elsewhere in the Haven, the Vakolicci science bureaux are attempting to replicate what they did last year when the zombies strook with little success. 'We lost some vital paperwork,' chief medical officer Rupert Gunnel apologised. 'Their was a breakin 3 months ago, and security is unconstitutional.'
