The Outbreak

The world isn't what it used to be. Cars used to drive through busy streets, People used to go to work and come home to their families. But that was long ago. A plague ravaged the Earth that turned half the worlds population into dead mindless creatures that had a desire for human flesh. It originated in a small town in the Eastern United States and the military called a quarantine and got it under control but that was the beginning. The military thought they had got rid of the infection but they were wrong. Within a matter of weeks, the infection reappeared in cities across the United States and the country was overwhelmed in months. Those who were lucky managed to access the news feeds from all over the world. By then it was everywhere. Europe, Asia, Africa. It started in the morning in some places but by night, it was everywhere. People refer to this day as First Night. Cities were in flames. Some areas had gone completely dark. The world's militaries were busy in the field but were failing. People that still had access to the internet spent their last days watching news feeds of these huge battles in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco and overseas. London, Paris, Moscow and Lagos. The rest of the world soon fell in a matter of years but not in the way you might think. Nations survived but suffered heavy losses. The world soon went to war with the undead. Countries battled the undead in attempts to remove them from their lands but were unsuccessful. Now with many nations gone, the remaining nations have learned to deal with the zombies and have pushed them out of most major cities. The world isn't the same and never will be again after the zombie apocalypse.

The current year is 2025 and most of the world went dark from EMPs and zombies. Can you survive in this nightmare once called Earth? Please cut all nation populations In half, the human population dropped greatly so don't have your population greater than the present nation it is based off of.

North America

Home to the first two cities that reported the plague, the United States was one of the first countries in the world to have fallen victim to the virus. The entire country was overwhelmed except for several safe zones in the West. The East coast was hit the hardest while the West coast had more survivors. Hawaii and Alaska were designated safe zones as they didn't receive hordes of the undead as compared to the continental 48. The entire country soon went dark after the bombings of several cities including Washington D.C. Mexico was so unprepared from the massive wave of infected refugees coming from the United States that many border cities were overrun. The army of Mexico had trouble expelling the dead from major cities and Mexico City was lost in one of the many failed national reclamation efforts. Some survivors had made a stand in the city of Tampico while others took refuge in the Mayan and Aztec remains in Southern Mexico. Canada also suffered from waves of refugees coming from the United States but also from all over North America due to the country's climate. Many people had tried to escape into the North where the zombies would freeze. Famine soon set in and most of the refugees died within the first month. Many didn't live to see the first winter.

South America

In Argentina, zombies began to arrive from Brazil and overran the capital of Buenos Aires. This left the city a hotzone in Argentina while zombies kept spreading across the nation. Multiple cities including Mendoza were overrun and the nation was lost in a matter of days. Cordoba was being used as a safe zone before the infected refugees began to turn and eventually the city was lost. In Brazil, Rio de Janeiro was one of the several cities that fell from an airplane arriving and carrying infected passengers. The main airport was overrun and the infected then spilled out into the city streets and mass panic followed. Christ the Redeemer still stands tall in the burning hills of Rio. Many flights leaving Brazil and Rio also helped spread the disease faster across South America. Chile was also attacked during the outbreak and the cause was refugees escaping Brazil. Many people fled and escaped into the Andes to get away from the violence. Santiago was used as a military barricade and the remaining survivors took a stand alongside the military armed with guns and whatever they could find. Many people in Peru fled to the Inca remains of Machu Picchu and Lima became home to survivors from all over the country as Peru wasn't hit as hard as the rest of South America. The rest of South America was hit hard by the outbreaks and the Guianas became overrun. Colombia went dark within hours and the government of Venezuela was moved to San Carlos de Rio Negro in the Amazon Jungle.

Asia

In China, the infection was seen as an opportunity rather than a disaster. Even as the death toll in China reached 500,000,000 Chinese troops invaded India in an attempt to gain control of Kashmir. However, the offensive stalled, and the infection slammed India as infected Chinese soldiers swamped Srinagar before they turned. City after city fell, and Pakistan was overwhelmed with infected refugees, thus spreading the virus westwards into Afghanistan and Iran. Wealthy Indians fled to South East Asia. By July 2018 Bangkok was a black hole and Indonesia was rapidly going under. At this point, China and both North and South Korea had collapsed, and South Korean infected fish brought the virus to Japan, which in turn caused wealthy infected Japanese to flee to Australia. The mountainous central Asian countries held out for months, again and again turning back Chinese hordes, but eventually their governments collapsed one by one. A large proportion of people in Central Asia survived, however. European tourists brought the virus to Turkey, where it engulfed the country and eventually spread to every country in the Mid East and overwhelmed it. The sandy deserts of that region are now black with the dead, with the exception of the Zagros, Caucasus, Pontus, and Taurus Mountains, to which most uninfected survivors have fled.

Europe

The French Army suffered heavy casualties. As a matter of restoring national pride, France refused to incrementally clear the zombies in Paris, and instead rapidly cleared out the city, knowing that they would incur massive casualties. Great Britain and its government appear to have survived relatively intact. The British "supreme command" is relocated to Scotland. British forces launched the Reclamation of Britain and allowed its inhabitants to live in safety and relative comfort during the stalemate years. Unlike France, Britain took its time retaking London, taking about five years to clear its capital. The island of Ireland fared particularly well, the island was re-unified shortly after the end of the plague, although whether by force or by agreement is unclear. In Germany, the forces of the Northern Command established a safe zone behind the Baltic Sea-North Sea canal while the Southern command established a safe zone in the Bavarian Alps. Because Germany's major cities are heavily populated, Germany was one of the hardest hit countries in Europe. Spain ended up better off than other parts of Europe and it along with most of the Iberian peninsula became one of the first safe zones. Countries in Central Europe survived in some form or another while many countries in Eastern Europe ended up being overrun due to the zombie hordes coming from Western Russia. Russia was badly affected by the zombie outbreak. Owing to the country's size, the Russians were forced to contend with roaming zombie hordes from Eastern Europe, China, and the countries of Central Asia. The Russian military, despite being a significant military power in the world, fared little better than the U.S. and Chinese militaries. The Russian military retreated to a Safe Zone in Siberia, abandoning their territory west of the Ural Mountains, which due to its high population was heavily infected (combined with bordering the zombie hordes from other populous countries in Western Europe). The only real advantage Russia had was the mountains of weapons and ammunition left over from the Soviet Union. Iceland was completely overrun and had one of the world's highest concentrations of undead, as it provided a haven for a multitude of refugees from Europe but had almost no military power to fight the spread of the undead. Finland was another zombie-overrun country. Refugees came to Iceland and Finland so the zombies would freeze but it only increased the speed of infection.

Africa

It was following the Hajj to Mecca that people from Morocco returned to their home country, spinning wild rumors of a plague that brought the dead back to life. These of course were dismissed, until the dead themselves ruled over Casablanca, devouring at will. In the following weeks, refugees would swallow the rest of North Africa and Lagos would earn its new nickname; "The Black Hole." The virus, now making horrific Ebola seem like a cakewalk, spread from West Africa into the Congo, where civil wars were interrupted by the undead hordes. The Dem. Republic of the Congo suffered the worst fate, as 50 million perished in just 48 hours, the highest death rate experienced by any country on the planet. Militarily stout nations in East Africa held out for another two months, but once Somalia opened up a new front, it was over. 8 countries collapsed in a week, leaving South Africa to its lonely fate. It has been theorized that South Africa's heroic struggle wiped nearly 7% of Africa's zombies from the earth, but by February 2018 it had collapsed as well, leaving Africa to slide into darkness.

Oceania and the Pacific

When the first infected plane arrived in Perth, the government of Australia was immediately moved to a safe zone in Tasmania while the mainland was attacked. Several inland cities were safe havens for all those escaping the coasts. However, escaping citizens who were infected unintentionally brought an outbreak to Alice Springs and the military was forced to put it down. New Zealand held out for awhile before the infected arrived in Wellington. With careful planning and precision the military forced the undead out and New Zealand closed it's borders. During the later stages of the plague, Auckland fell and soon the rest of the country due to an overwhelming amount of refugees from Australia and other nations. Many islands in the Pacific were overrun from refugees escaping on boats and rafts. This evidently caused most zombies to be dumped into the ocean and was the reason behind several ocean species to go extinct.

Iceland

The most famous White Zone is Iceland, which is heavily infested even ten years after the official end of the plague. Millions of refugees latched onto the idea that Iceland was an ideal bastion of safety, due to its combination of cold weather and isolated island location. Iceland did not have a large standing military, however, and could not possibly screen the millions of infected refugees that overrun the country, cramming their way onto the island. The dense concentration of refugees proved ideal for the spread of the zombie infection, until no humans were left alive on the island.

Scandinavia

Other sub-arctic to arctic regions around the globe are still considered White Zones due to frozen zombies laying in wait, many of them spread by fleeing refugees, though none were as densely concentrated as Iceland. Much of Scandinavia, particularly its isolated mountain ranges, are still infested. Annual sweep and clear operations occur in Finland.

Siberia

Large swaths of Siberia are also still infested; while the number of refugees fleeing to such areas wasn't as concentrated as Iceland, the vast frozen expanses of the Siberian wilderness make it extremely difficult to effectively sweep the entire area for isolated zombies. Ironically, Siberia was Russia's "Safe Zone" during the war because its cold weather and low population density at least kept the zombies relatively in check, but now its huge size makes it an ongoing problem. Many refugees from China and India, often with no winter survival gear whatsoever, did try to flee to the isolation of the Siberian wilderness, bringing the infection with them. The United States has offered to help clear Siberia but Russia insists it will be the only one responsible for clearing its own territory.

Subarctic Canada

Sub-arctic Canada is in a similar situation as Siberia, with millions of refugees fleeing north to the perceived safety of the cold wilderness. Many died of starvation in the first winter of the war, but others also brought the zombie infection with them. Sub-arctic Canada is smaller than Siberia so the concentration is denser, though they didn't have to deal with millions of overland refugees coming from China and India the way Siberia did. Even so, the relatively smaller distances meant that millions of refugees from southern Canada and the United States poured into the Canadian sub-arctic. Even ten years after the plague, frozen zombies are still to be found in northern Manitoba. While volunteer organizations claim to be making relative progress, it is very slow and practically not discernable.

Ocean Floors

The ocean floor can't be cleared because it is physically impossible to send entire armies down there to eliminate them. Zombies can survive under miles of water, in the deepest ocean trenches. Moreover, the vast unexplored size of the ocean floor prevents a huge challenge: 70% of the Earth's surface is water. After twenty years, zombies who were originally infected in New York might have found their way to the Marianas Trench east of Japan. Eerily, just as zombies in large plains areas such as the Eurasian Steppe or North American Great Plains formed into "mega-herds" due to the Chain swarm effect, zombie hordes numbering in the millions shamble along in great undead swarms along the ocean floors. Current estimates hold that even ten years after the end of the plague, there are at least 30 million zombies still active on the Ocean Floors, making them the greatest number of active zombies remaining in the world by far. This greatly affects maritime traffic, and technically every coastline in the world is still a fenced-off and defended "front line" against the zombie threat.

India/China

China and India were the hardest hit nations in the world. The Indian government had escaped to the Himalayan Mountains whereas China's government was lost in the many evacuations of Beijing. The disastrous decisions of both countries, left China and India as the world's least populated nations and the last to be totally cleared of zombies, 11 years after the first outbreak the zombie population is still out of control as Zombie hordes rule over Eastern China and Southern India.

What Happened to your nation when the zombies attacked?: During the outbreak Mexico was overwhelmed by infected refugees from the incident in the United States. The capital was lost in a miserable attempt by the military which then retreated and let the nation fall. Over the years the military had been getting whoever they could for the return of the once great Mexico. Over time they had reached enough numbers to invade and take back several states that once belonged to Mexico. It still interacts with its Yankee neighbors but stays to itself very often.

Spain closely attached to Europe was the first of the European Nations in the region to suffer heavily the whole population of Spain moved to the safe areas of Madrid and Barcelona. These camps were extremely disease infested and the people needed to spread out and retake the country they currently have taken the whole of Spain after intense street to street battles with infested zombies or later known as the plague. Portugal was simmiliar to the fall of Spain they successfully held the capital and created a wall between the city and the rest of Portugal Spain came to their aid and was successful in regaining Portugal. Morroco was the first in the region to be attacked the whole of Africa tried fleeing to this nation and the militarise efforts were exhausted which resulted in guerrilla battles in the country. Morrocos government fleed to Spain where they agreed to join their alliance they later returned to a devastated Morroco and built small forts and other buildings on the Moroccan border.

The three way alliance has begun building a massive 37.5 m wall on the border of France and Spain, further aid is helping the defence of Morroco and the military is split between the southern part of Morroco, border of France and Spain and the coasts of Portugal and Northern Spain. The government has hopelessly started trying radio communications between foreign nations.

After the collapse of the Federal Government collapsed, the senator of Pennsylvania, William Hodgehen, lead a militia force into Washington to retake the city from the undead hordes. After a week of fighting, the city was once again under human control, and now the little militia had access to almost every bit of U.S intelligence ever. After learning of a U.S military weapons storage facility outside of Philadelphia, the Militia headed North, and ransacked the facility and then moved upon Philadelphia it self, do to them having new weapons, and a tank. After another week of brutal fighting Philadelphia was cleared and the militia, or now Army, moved North feeling confident in its self, and took Trenton, then Atlantic city, and was with having recruited more soldiers and acquiring new weapons, marched upon New York City. The battle of New York was brutal and hideous, do to Long Island being nuked, mutant zombies crossed the The Queensboro Bridge, so the commanding General, ordered the bridge, along with the Brooklyn Bridge to be blown up. Nearly three weeks of brutal battle lead NYC to be under Human control once again, but at a price of 10,929 men. When Afghanistan was overrun by hordes from Pakistan and India, the Taliban took advantage of the chaos (and the lack of coalition troops) and seized control of the country. Uzbekistan,

Turkmenistan and Tajikistan formed a coalition to try and contain the spillover violence. In four months, the Taliban offensive had been stopped, but the virus proceeded to infect Uzbekistan, sending millions of refugees into the mountains. Tajikstan and Kyrgyzstan fell apart into political power struggles. China took advantage of the chaos and invaded both countries, but within two months, they had withdrawn to fight the infection in eastern China, which was being swamped. This left large amounts of Chinese military equipment in Tajikstan and Kyrgyzstan, which is now used by the Turkestani military.

By 2017, Kazakhstan had intervened in Tajikstan and Kyrgyzstan, ending the chaos and with them creating the "Central Asian Confederacy." The CAC helped Uzbek forces to clear their country, which earned Uzbekistan a place in the CAC. Turkmenistan joined just months later and in 2018, Afghanistan joined. Shortly after, however, a coup by the military put Kazakh General Ruslan Timur in charge, who remains the sole ruler of the Republic of Turkestan, formed in early 2019 shortly following Timur's coup.
