Will you support a communist revolution in your country?

Postby History Alive » Mon Sep 29, 2014 5:00 pm

The year is 1919. World War I has devastated Europe, and inspired great social change. Many people are angry with the former establishment. Particularly with the old monarchies, many feel that the old order of Europe needs to be changed. No where was this more apparent than in Russia. The monarchy was violently overthrown, and a provisional government was created. In October, the Bolsheviks took over the provisional government and declared a communist state. Russia could be at the forefront of a very new possibility. That communism will spread throughout Europe.

Communist revolutions have indeed erupted throughout Europe. Many people find them appealing, and it is a very real possibility that they will take over. The questions stands. Will you support a communist revolution in your country?

Remember to keep this discussion in period as if you were living in that time. Also keep things civil. Remember that if you have any suggestions for these debates, feel free to submit them to me.

Well shit, in period I wouldn't know how horrible authoritarian communism turns out to be. I'd probably just get swept up in the rhetoric and assume the compassionate people who want justice for the poor were incapable of mass enslavement and political genocide.

Never, never be afraid to do what's right, especially if the well-being of a person is at stake. Society's punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.
We have nothing to lose but the world. We have our souls to gain.

Yes.

[and I would be even more supportive of one today, as the conditions in today's Western world require far less authoritarian means; thus, leaving it less open to careerism.]

I would, I'd want it to be as peaceful as possible but I would. Especially after seeing the hell in the form of WW1 that Imperialism had just released upon the world.

Why on earth would President Louis Botha bow to those ungodly Communist fools?!? That would be like letting black people vote. :lol2:

The formation of the South African Communist Party, a party that will play a major part in the struggle against white minority rule, and later also Apartheid, is still two years away from being formed. Already however numerous people, including many in the oppressed black communities, are warming toward Communism.

Speaking from the point of view of the "common man" in the early 1900's, yes.

In modern times, being knowledgeable of the inundating negatives of a communist government (which is in and of itself an oxymoron), no.

I would never support a marxist-leninist revolution. The history is the evidence to what a marxist-leninist regime is and what it would degenerate into.
Pro: council communism, libertarian municipalism, civic nationalism, green politics, women's rights, non-interventionism, sexual and gender minority rights, animal rights, direct democracy, euroscepticism, secularism, pirate politics, gun legalization, drug legalization, moral and existential nihilism.

It took at least 70 years for the marxist-leninist regimes to drop dead in Europe. What are you talking about? Some of them are even alive and well to this day.

You're asking a site full of of hard core communists and Marxists whether they want to support a communist revolution. Have you ever been on NSG?

Oh...and absolutely not. Communism is a loathsome ideology that seems to think humans are incorruptible and morally wholesome enough to trust with land, wealth, and power and not have those in power abuse it.

Revolution through massive social movements, and the will to stand up for the rights of the people. That is my take on it anyway.

No, industrialization and the elimination of illiteracy did. Think you're forgetting that, for a while, the USSR had a healthcare system on-par (and, IIRC, producing a superior life expectancy for a while) with the US for some time, was the first country in space, and did all of this from a terrible starting position.
