The Peaceful Territories wrote:All right, it might seem a stupid question at first, but let me explain. This is a chance to show North Korea the promises of capitalism, and promote sports in the nation of North Korea.
First of all, North Korea will readily accept the burden of hosting the Winter Olympics. Its construction crews will efficiently build the complexes needed for this game, as they built many public works in North Korea, mainly monuments to their leaders. This is also a chance to show magnificent architecture to the world, so the citizens of North Korea will have more pride in their country and not think of it has sucky real life Arztotzka.
Many audience members from around the world will come to the games, and their security is ensured because Pyongyang is a relatively low crime city. It will show people on the streets and the people guarding them the glory of capitalism, like electronic goods such as touch screen phones and PS Vitas.
This will also promote sports in North Korea because the government will want a good sports team to represent the country, since many of their teams usually fail to qualify for the Olympics.
Your thoughts NS Sports?

That would most likely be the worst idea ever. For one the people shouldn't feel proud of their country in this state , and instead should try and lynch that "leader" of theirs. Secondly, just because you host the Olympics doesn't mean you get free Iphone's and PS Vita's.
People need to buy them, and no way to they have the money for it with NK's current economy. I also question their ability to even fund it in the first place.
And really, North Korea? I'm wouldn't be surprised if they killed everyone just to show the world their "might".

I wasn't going to respond to any of this, but then I saw these comments - my response:
If you think North Korea are communist, you understand nothing about communism. Also, please tell me why the glory of capitalism is something the olympic movement should be encouraging?
Also, did the USSR turn capitalist right after hosting the olympics in Moscow, or Sarajevo? No.

Were people in Moscow set back in technology by 60 years? No. Were they deprived of many luxuries? No.
