Police raids against a plot by 'Islamic State Militants' to kidnap a random member of the Sydney public, behead them, drape them in the IS flag then rape their body. Raids in Sydney and some suburbs in Brisbane, including mine in Mt Gravatt.

According to the TV news Channel 9, Muslim residents of the suburbs in Sydney are planning a protest at 7pm tonight at the local train station.

I'm hoping this doesn't flare up into some big anti-muslim stink, and I'm also hoping that the Muslim protest doesn't give the racists a reason to start a big anti-muslim stink.

Gotta say, hearing about something like this so close to home makes me a bit unnerved. (Okay I live in New Zealand, but I frequently travel to Sydney and Brisbane, and have my immediate family currently living in Brisbane.)

But I'm glad they averted it, and I have so much respect for the police forces and intelligence gathering services that carried out this operation.
