The southern most region of North Arkana has long been home to peoples desiring independence with intense passion. Due to the volatile situation, the national government of North Arkana decided a referendum would be held, allowing the citizens to decide for themselves whether or not to breakaway from North Arkana. Should the vote be passed, the North Arkanan government would recognize the region as an independent nation, and allow its seccession from the nation.

The results of the referendum are as follows:
47% in favor of independence
48% in favor of remaining part of North Arkana
5% abstained from voting

With the results confirmed by an independent elections organization, the southern most part of North Arkana was to remain a province of the larger nation. Nevertheless, the extremist factions of the independence movement refuse to recognize the results of the election, and have declared the creation of the nation of South Arkana, and have declared holy war against the heretics who denied them independence and the heretics to the north.

The South Arkanan Liberation Army (SALA) has taken control of the southern region in a brutal uprising. All government employees of North Arkana have been arrested and executed. The ASDF (Arkanan Self-Defense Force) base in the region is under siege. Citizens who voted against independence are being rounded up and either executed or "re-educated".

The National Council of North Arkana is alarmed by the sudden outbreak of violence in the far southern province of Mirov. With government employees and civilians being executed, the ASDF has begun evacuating surviving employees, as well as civilians fleeing the violence. The Rapid Response Corp (RRC) of 50,000 veteran troops has been mobilized to relieve the force under siege at Fort Maelow. The Survey Corp has been deployed to the border near Mirov Province, in preparation for deep penetration recon missions.

SALA forces have raided the armories of local police stations and military outposts which have been overrun, their garrisons executed. SALA forces are now armed with a significant number of advanced weapons, and have restarted production at several shut-down arms manufacuring facilities. Local extremist militias bolster the forces of the SALA, and participate in "purification" operations. The siege of Fort Maelow continues, as the surrounding forces begin receiving stolen and newly manufactured weapons.

ASDF Air Force transports air-drop supplies to the forces surrounded at Fort Maelow. Limited air-strikes begin on the forces surrounding the base. Evacuations begin in the areas bordering Mirov Province, as raids by extremist militias begin on the border areas.

The Imperial government takes great delight in seeing such chaos inside North Arkana, and has offered its assistance to the SALA and its allied militias. A military supply convoy has been sent on a circitous route to South Arkana/Mirov Province, carrying arms and supplies.

The SALA gladly accepts the supplies from Fuhgitabotit, before promptly arresting the troops and drivers in the convoy and brutally beheading them. The SALA declares its intent to wipe all heretics from the face of the planet, and warns all that they must submit to the authority of the SALA and their re-education, or be executed immediately and without mercy.

Upon receiving news of the execution of its troops in the convoy, the Imperial Government is undecided over what course of action to take. Attacking the extremists in South Arkana/Mirov Province, would place them in a strange alliance with their long-time enemy, North Arkana. At the same time, if the SALA successfully establishes a state of its own, it could serve as a base of operations for terrorists or other extremist organizations which could represent a threat to the Empire. The Imperial government opts to take more time to decide its course of action.

Cypriae decides to send troops to reinforce the ASDF, and sends a squadron of helicopter gunships with supplies and troops to Fort Maelow. It also orders the CPS to mass on standby at cities controlled by SALA closest to the border, with orders to keep violence from overflowing from the region.

SALA militiamen launch a cross-border attack on a small town in North Arkana. Men, women, and children and dragged from their homes, any who resist are shot. The men are executed on the spot, beheaded in front of their families, and the rest are forcibly taken to re-education centers in South Arkana. The town is burned to the ground before the militiamen retreat back across the border.

ASDF Ground Forces are deployed to lock down the border between Mirov Province and the reat of the nation. Air strikes are stepped up, specifically targetting the stockpiles of arms taken from the police and military armories, as well as the arms manufacturing facilities. The Survey Corp begins scouting operations to determine the best land route to Fort Faelow.

With the arrival of Cypriaen gunships at Fort Maelow, the SALA concentrates its anti-aircraft assests around the military base. Heavy and light anti-aircraft guns, self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, heavy machine guns, automatic cannons, and surface-to-air missiles are ringed around the base in an effort to prevent supplies from reaching Fort Maelow, and prevent the gunships from flying out.

Cypriae deploys the 37th Political Elimination Squad to South Arkana to scout out the leaders of the militants, and to identify the best ways of dealing with them. They are also told to gather information on troop movements, weapons, etc, and relay their findings to Cypriaen Emergency Command, and the ASDF.

Meanwhile, at Fort Maelow, Cypriaen Gunships take fire as they go into the base's airspace. Several are shot down, but due to a risky coordinated maneuver, most of them reach the base. Once there, they decide to stay and wait for ground support, as leaving would be too risky. They start disseminating supplies to the base's personnel, and the Cypriaen doctors help tend to the wounded.

The Rapid Response Corp readies itself for the coming operation to relieve Fort Maelow on the North Arkanan controlled side of the border with Mirov Province. The Survey Corp continues its mission to scout out the best route to Fort Maelow by land, avoiding contact with the SALA forces and their militias. Due to the heavy presence of anti-aircraft weapons around Fort Maelow, standard air-drops of supplies are no longer possible. Instead, precision supply drops with drop-pods launched from high-altitude stealth bombers are used to resupply the base. The method is more expensive, but reduces the risks to the aircraft to almost nothing. The concentration of anti-aircraft weapons in one location gives the ASDF Air Force a free hand to strike targets throughout Mirov Province.

Realizing the mistake they've made by concentrating all their AA weapons in one place, the shadowy leaders of the SALA redeploy part of their AA weaponry to defend their arms-manufacturing facilities. An attempted cross-border raid by a militia group is repelled by ASDF forces at the border with heavy losses to the militiamen. Further raids are suspended by the leadership of the SALA.
Aware of possible attempts to infilitate their organization by heretics, recruits and those who associate with the SALA are carefully screened, and those of questionable loyalty are sent to re-education centers.
The SALA's leadership begins conducting secret deals with foreign extremist groups to receive foreign fighter reinforcments, arms, and supplies.

In a rare occurance for the Imperial government, the ministers are divided over what to do. Some believe it would be best to attack the extremists, eliminating the possible threat before it becomes larger. Another faction wants the Empire to stay out of the conflict, and take advantage of the possible weakening of North Arkana afterwards. The third faction wants to support the extremists, despite the atrocities already committed against Imperial troops, believing the SALA will only attack North Arkana, and not bother the Grand Imperial Union of Fuhgitabotit.
For only the third time in history, the Grand Imperial Parliment is called to take a vote with real consequences.

The results are as follows:
23% in favor of attacking the extremists
38% in favor of remaining neutral for the time being
39% in favor of supporting the extremists

The Imperial government declares its intent to supply arms and volunteers to the SALA, with the approval of Supreme Lord High Marshal Herzgash.

All volunteers from Fuhgitabotit are forced to undergo re-education before being allowed to join the ranks of the SALA. Arms and supplies are accepted from Fuhgitabotit, despite the general hostility toward all considered heretics. It is planned in the future for the SALA and its allies to turn its sights on Fuhgitabotit and other nations in the region, after destroying the heretics of North Arkana. The forces around Fort Maelow steadily build up in preparation for an all out attack on the base.

Cypriae is currently debating whether or not to up the situation from humanitarian aide to full scale deployment. Some leaders are divided on whether its Cypriae's problem or not, but all agree that action that threatens Cypriae's interests should be dealt with harshly. Some Politicians have even brought the nuclear option to the table, even going are far as running numbers with NukeMart. All Cypriae needs now is something to tip it into war.

ASDF Air Force fighters and bombers have begun making airstrikes on convoys of arms and supplies destined for Mirov Province. The Survey Corp has finished its mission and is now setting up a forward operating base for the coming operation, FOB Kirkov. The 1st RRC crosses the border into Mirov Provinve, heading for FOB Kirkov. The armored spearhead of the 1st RRC brushes aside the initial resistance by SALA forces and militias. The 2nd RRC is mobilised inside North Arkana for possible operations in the future.

Commander Vasilichov of the SALA has been declared the leader of all forces under SALA command. Forces around Fort Maelow begin bombarding the base with mortars and artillery supplied by Fuhgitabotit. Limited stocks of ammumition for the heavy weapons limit the effectiveness of the shelling, but the bombardment is steady throughout the day.

Militia units in the north of Mirov Province regroup and attack the 1st RRC with small arms, RPGs, bomb vests, and car bombs. Units of the SALA in areas other than that surrounding Fort Maelow move to attack the Survey Corp at FOB Kirkov.

Units of the 1st RRC begin taking casualties in the face of renewed attacks by hostile militia forces, but the advance continues with armored units leading the charge, and gunships providing supporting fire. The Survey Corp fortifies its position at FOB Kirkov and prepares for an attack by SALA forces.

Upon receiving the news of the SALA's dealings to purchase nuclear weapons, ASDF HazOps units are mobilized for a possible mission to intercept the shipment. Domestic security forces increase their preparations for possible attacks on Arkanan population centers, as anti-terrorism forces increase their presence in major cities.

Militia forces are unable to hold back the forces of the 1st RRC and collapse under the pressure, allowing the ASDF forces to advanve towards FOB Kirkov.

Arkanan intelligence assets have intercepted three encrypted messages from SALA commanders. The firat confirms the purchase of nuclear weapons by the SALA, but contains an additional message with a more secure encryption. As codebreakers work on the second part of the message, apparently from Cypriae, the HazOps Corp is mobilised to intercept the shipment, which according to the second message, will be moving by sea. The third message is heavily encrypted, and is being worked on by Arkanan codebreakers.

For classified reasons, the Cypriaen Navy deploys an Aircraft Carrier Group (CVBG) with the CNS Clyde Thomas from the 5th fleet, commanded by Admiral Abixion. All that is known is that it is going on an escort mission, but for who or to where remains a secret.

Sad-States begins to send word to it's colony, the United Armed Republic that it needs troops to be sent to South Arkana to help with the revolution that is being taken place.

The message which was leaked from the leading member of the SFC (the Sadian Federal Council) of Sad-States, however is not known and is thought to be made up.
"Hello the UAR Assembly, we, the leading body of Sad-States or formally known as the Sadian Federal Council have decided that North Arkana must be dealt with. Their denial of independence of the South Arkanian people must not go unnoticed. We are requesting that your military leaders to send as much soldiers as you can to South Arkana... to assist the SALA in any means possible. Your men are also to regroup with the SAF (Sadian Armed Forces) once orders have been given by the SALA generals.
Do not fail me. North Arkana must remember that their brutality against our soldiers, regardless if it were the past... will not be forgotten."
