As the United States begins to deepen ties with moderate Syrian rebels to combat the extremist group ISIS, also known as the Islamic State, a key component of its coalition appears to have struck a non-aggression pact with the group.
According to Agence France-Presse, ISIS and a number of moderate and hard-line rebel groups have agreed not to fight each other so that they can focus on taking down the regime of Syrian President Bashar Assad. Other sources say the signatories include a major U.S. ally linked to the Free Syrian Army. Moreover, the leader of the Free Syrian Army said Saturday that the group would not take part in U.S. plans for destroying the Islamic State until it got assurances on toppling Assad.
Let's take a trip down memory lane:
From December 1979 to February 1989,
The soviet intervention in afghanistan. In July 1979, Carter directed money to aid the radical islamic millitants in Afghanistan against the newly soviet-friendly Democratic Republic of Afghanistan. Eventually the Afghan Government got tired of fighting these radical tribes and signed a treaty with the U.S.S.R so they could deploy their own army. They did, in 1979. Eventually over 100,000 soviet units arrived in Afghanistan to put down the muhjaden tribes.
Thsi is when a large influx of weapons and money flowed to these tribes even more. The United States purchased all of Israel's captured Soviet weapons clandestinely, and then funnelled the weapons to the Mujahideen. n the mid-1980s, the Afghan resistance movement, assisted by the United States, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Egypt, the People's Republic of China and others, contributed to Moscow's high military costs and strained international relations. The U.S. viewed the conflict in Afghanistan as an integral Cold War struggle, and the CIA provided assistance to anti-Soviet forces through the Pakistani intelligence services, in a program called Operation Cyclone.
A similar movement occurred in other Muslim countries, bringing contingents of so-called Afghan Arabs, foreign fighters who wished to wage jihad against the atheist communists. Notable among them was a young Saudi named Osama bin Laden, whose Arab group eventually evolved into al-Qaeda(source: History channel, biography.com)
So, what's my point? We funded them to get rid of the soviets, and after the soviets were done they pucked up and turned against us. And everytime we've gotten rid of dictators, said country has fallen into chaos.
Ghaddfi, we got rid of him - Libya went into chaos and is still in chaos.
Saddam, we got rid of him - we got ISIS.
Now we're funding people who we don't even know will help us, and have been reported to have ties with Al Qaeda.
It's time for America to stop with the nonsense and mind our own business.
What say you ,NSG?
