In order to be a politician, you must be a man (or woman) of honor. You must be willing to go out of your way to keep your promises go the people or revoke promises which have been proven to be unpopular and/or a complete failure. Also, you must not be susceptible to bribery.

Most of the ones still alive in office fit these requirements due to near constant purges at the behest of the Tsar our effective impeachment system.

Here in Zhouran, to be a politician, you must study politics, and it is not as easy as humans would think. Plus, it is strongly encouraged that you must be born from a political family. Although there are a few politicians who do not come from a political family, many powerful and famous politicians come from political families.

While effectively being one of the most democratic (as representitive democracy can get of course) nations in the known world (multiverse aside for now) Senyosu has some of the most restictive requirements to become a politician. This is partly due to a practice istarted in the 80s deliberately ostracizing politicians and officials that did not have proper portfolios, past achievements, military background, and more than two specializations for work.

Originally, this caused major outrage before the Bill for the New Millenium was passed into law in 1993. Said bill made enormous reforms throughout the public sector, save for the national health service, originally causing unemployment, yet at the same time employed thousands of younger and more qualified--by extension more dedicated--public service workers and politicians. This bill also touched various sectors of industry in the private sector, particularily stimulating further innovation and competition.

Back to politicians. Currently, the New Millenium Bill has been revised numerous times, closing potential loopholes, further clarifying certain clauses, and relaxing certain sections. These are the requirements as of 2008 to 2020.

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be a Senyonese citizen (foreigners who have lived more than ten years in Senyosu and have citizenship are eligible to becoming an official)
  • Must be fluent in Senyonese and English
  • Must have served as a member of the military as a full time personel for more than six months
  • Must have passed all levels of education
  • Must have two specializations or majors as an undergraduate, with one being a master's degree or higher
  • Must have a GPA of 8 and above (GPA scale in Senyosu is 1-10, 10 being perfection while 1 way below a fail)
  • Must have a portfolio (portfolio requirements depend on department, with said portfolio expanding further on other requirements)
  • Must have at least one job outside of public services
  • Must not have any criminal record of any form, misdemeanors disregarded (excusable if one has an outsanding achievements and an above and beyond portfolio)
  • Must have proper knowledge of the constitution and founding principles
  • Must swear loyalty to the constitution, crown, and country

The following that was highlighted usually brings about fierce debate among political analysts, economists, and politicians alike. Many claiming it far too vague and inherently discriminatory on the basis of employment alone.

However, in the end all be all, most politicans have a primary background in; business management, engineering and design, computer science/psychology/neuroscience, or health and general science. With a secondary background in; economics, political science, fine arts, communications, sociology, public affairs and policy management, law and criminology, or philosophy.

Most have master degrees/PHDs in the following; engineering and design, science and innovative technology, education, philosophy, business management, or health/medical sciences.

As you can see, the New Millenium bill was to effectively establish a technocratic government through a meritocratic system of judges and specialists by the year 2000. Did it officially work? Somewhat. As a result, politicians have the shortest job lifespan in comparison to other public sector jobs. Expect to last no more than 3 to 8 years, tops. Of course, those that manage to get into parliament or the cabinet or even the SENATE must be dedicated enough and, of course, have more--but much more lenient--requirements to get in.

Some unofficial requirements are dedication, charisma, and ambition.

And that is how you become a politician in Senyosu. Have fuuun~

You must be over 18, and must hold citizenship.
You must have a university degree in politics to show you understand it. Universities are free so no bias toward the rich
You must have no previous criminal record, unless you have a very good explanation for the crime
You must have a Primary School graduation certificate, and a HSC
You must have a portfoilo
You must swear by your gods/esses or on your life that you will abide by the constitution
You must have a degree in a subject, if you are to be the minister for it. e.g. You must have a Masters in Science to become Science or Shadow Science Minister
If you are from the extreme right, you will not be able to create nor join a political party. If your views turn to there, you will be expelled from Parliament ASAP.
Now I'm back in the ring to take another swing

The requirements vary greatly between offices and realms of Kingdoms and States represented in the Council of State. A brief overview can be done, though:

Estates-General/Zamoian Parliament

1. The Crown Counsel:/the Senate
  • hereditary or lifetime mandate in the chamber;
  • At least 30 years is required to have a right to vote in the Chamber, with exceptions of male members of the Imperial Family, who acquire right to participate at 21, and full rights at 25;
  • Archpriests of National Cult and Rectors of Imperial University are members of the Counsel ex officio, they may also appoint their deputies.

2. Imperial Diet
  • Age: 30
  • Specific requirements connected with the curial elections to the Imperial Diet in the State Representation Act, namely in Articles 12-16.

Similar requirements are present in the Zamoian Chamber of Deputies.

There are no official requirements for posts of either ministers of realms or Ministers of Common Affairs.

In Qandaristan, you need to be born in Qandaristan (Qandarian held territories in other countries in civil war or not is not counted) and be willing to work for the people, and hold your promises. You aswell need to be atleast political active (e.g have been a Mayor or represented in a party) in order to get a chance to get in office. And if your ethnicity exist in Qandaristan, and you moved there from a country with a majority of the people coming from your ethnicity (for example, Persians and Iran), you can't trade in office, unless you were born in a border town, were we will skip this requirment.

For someone to be elected to political office, they must be over the age of 18, and they must be a citizen of the nation. Some political offices have more restrictive requirements, such as PM, which requires that you be 30 years old.
