It's Hurricane season, an earthquake recently hit San Fransisco, a volcano just erupted in New Guinea and we've been having a series of small volcanic eruptions here in Iceland along with consistent earthquake activity for the last week or so.
Anyway what I'm trying to say is that Natural disasters are a worldwide phenomenon and affect a lot of different people in many different societies.
So NSG, what kind of natural hazards are present in your area, if any? Have they affected you or your loved ones at any point? Are you concerned about them?
I live in an area of Iceland that is somewhat geologically active, but the earthquakes and eruptions I've experienced have been mostly a nuisance and not a serious concern, my most intense experience being a 6.3 magnitude earthquake. So overall I have been quite fortunate.
Two of my great-uncles died in avalanches when I was a toddler however, so older members of my family have not been this lucky.

The electronic news media is a ravenous beast, hungry for anything to splash across screens. There are hurricanes every year, The West Coast of North America and New Guinea are on the Ring of Fire and your ancestors thought living smack dab on the Mid-Atlantic Ridge was a good idea.
Here in Colorado we have flash floods and avalanches and tornadoes. Last September we had four or five days of torrential rain that devastated parts of the foothills. The usual, you know.
