This is the OOC discussion thread for a MT power politics RP documenting, amongst other things, Ausitoria's attempts to maintain what they regard as their quiet hegemony over Hemithea. There will be elements in space, but anybody planning to throw around modern technological impossibilities should present a really good explanation for how they work first - and present it here.

All frequent visitors of the Hemithean IRC or Panessos forums or any nations marked on the joint map are welcome to participate. Others are requested to reply to this topic or to send me a telegram to say what they would do in this RP, as this should be in-cannon for all concerned.

As an example of things that might not be permitted, invading Hemithea with hyper-intelligent snow leopards from another planet is definitely out.


As a note on when this occurs, it comes about three weeks after the start of the Mizrad-Maverican war; i.e. roundabout early summertime, 2014 (that is, for people in the northern hemisphere).

I'm definitely in, just so everyone knows. But with the first week back at the University being what it is, I've only had a few free internet-access hours each day, so my (rather substantial) intro post has been delayed and probably won't be up until Sunday.

When does it occur relative to the Mizrad-Maverica war? I recall leaving that more or less ambiguous in the 463 incident, but here it'll make a pretty big difference regarding the location of the Soodean 2nd, 3rd, and 4th fleets, as well as the status of Destinado Tierra.

This RP is occurring approximately one month after the collapse of Firmador, so c. 35 days after the beginning of the Mizrad-Maverican Theatre war; or about 25 days after the peace treaty.

Regarding your unfounded charges that we have illegally occupied and annexed the territories contrary to the wishes of Firmador and the inhabitants, the government of the island in question has seceded from Firmador and decided to join the Imperial Commonwealth Federation [...] the islanders have chosen to be Ausitorian, and they shall be Ausitorian for as long as they want to be so.
And since Firmador has no central government, we believe that Firmador is effectively terra nullius, and thus there is no legal dilemma.

I feel I should mention, just in case any of you feel I am stretching the bounds of realism, that that particular paragraph is entirely Ausitorian interpretation based on the argument that what is left of the government of the island has not actively refused to join the Imperial Commonwealth and has implicitly (but not explicitly) agreed to join it. From a neutral point of view, it could easily be argued to be a land-grab.

On another matter, Rhinocera is interested in being more involved with Hemithea and has asked to join this RP, and I see no reason to say no.

Incidentally TNL, just to enter into your calculations; the discussion between our civil servants would undoubtedly include my civil servant mentioning that Ausitoria was planning all sorts of conciliatory actions "to give the new lowlands more space and strategic support".
