Singularity Theorem (A fully customizable sci-fi universe)

So I'm going to try something rather unique. I don't know if anything like this has ever been done before but here goes. I want to create a sci-fi universe. So instead of trying to make one myself that people may or not be interested in, or copying one that not everyone may enjoy, I have created this thread. Here everyone can contribute to a customized P2TM universe.

This will be the central thread where the universe is created. Here everyone's ideas can slowly build an expansive sci-fi universe that everyone can enjoy, because everyone created it.

The plan is to eventually create an incredibly well built and comprehensive sci-fi universe that will then be used for several RPs. Anything from character RPs to Faction RPs can then be set in this universe. Basically we will have a sci-fi universe that can be the setting for several RPs to come, which in turn will continue to add to the universe.

Galaxy - The Milky Way

In the 21st century, technology began to be developed faster and faster.

By the 24th century, long-distance space travel was made practical. Private corporations such as STAG (Scientific Technology Advancement Group) went first. STAG was able to commercialize space travel, and at first people left the solar system in the masses. Then, in the 22nd solar system, a new race named "Nouum" (New Being) were discovered. Their technology was greatly superior to human technology, and they could create genetic "seeds" to colonize new worlds. Humans quickly copied this technology, and the first generation of seeds were sent to the reaches of the galaxy. Later on, transwarp drive technology was greatly advanced by both races cooperation, and near-instantaneous travel was made possible just 1 century after the transwarp drive had been created by humans. The tiny governments on Earth were made obsolete, and STAG ended up being the government of the galaxy for some time, until the company fell apart after financial struggles due to how easy it had become to purchase a small starship. 2 centuries later, a man named Maxim Berlin seized power in the Gliese system, and began to expand his empire. After STAG had fallen apart, few attempts were made to discover more uncharted space. Maxim changed everything by sending out another generation of seeds, this time preprogrammed to obey his imperial law, to search for life-supporting worlds. A decade later, transports were sent out to these worlds and Maxim began building his empire.

Contribution: I have a couple ideas for alien species I've been meaning to write down somewhere, so here works.

-A species that co-evolved with another sentient species. Since they were either the predator/prey of the other sentient species, (I think prey would be more interesting, personally) they assign no particular value to sentience, they just see things in terms of "us", which are treated as people, and "not us", which are treated at best as interesting and cute, and at worst as disposable. Basically, they treat any creature, no matter how intelligent, the same way humans would treat animals.

-A species that has no sense of self, and will willingly split its mind and body into smaller parts to be recombined into new sentient beings later with parts from other members of its species.

-A species that either never developed hearing, or does not use hearing very much, and communicates via an organ that rapidly changes colour, making communication with any creature that communicates via talking and listening difficult to impossible.

-Strange quark stars that are sentient and reproduce by converting other stars into more strange quark stars.

I am interested, but I'm wondering what ground rules exist, if any. For example, what is the scope of this universe? Is travel limited to within one galaxy, or is intergalactic travel a possibility? If it's just one galaxy, is the entire galaxy colonized, or just a fraction of it? Are any technologies disallowed? (I can imagine that things like time travel, infinite energy sources, and planet-killing superweapons might be game-breaking, or might be fun to play with.) Is anything else disallowed? (For instance, would something like the Force or other forms of space mysticism be welcome or not?)

I'll keep an eye on this before deciding one way or another whether to join...

I just thought of another idea: Two wormholes are held very close to each other by extremely advancing gravity-manipulating technology built by the resident precursor species. These act as a time machine: Enter through one side and you end up on the other side slightly before you entered, and vice versa. Various crafts from different possible futures and different past eras exit through it, and hilarity ensues.

I'd like to have only a few parts of the Galaxy explored at the start, with the Factions being fledgling civilizations and the characters play some role in the exploration of the galaxy. I've been in too many FT RPs where everyone is already huge, already has everything figured out, and I lost interest in those rather quickly.

I agree, at most, people can have colonized moons and nearby planets, but anything outside the solar system is unknown IMO.

Oh, also I love making characters and their personalities. I could spend hours designing NPCs to populate this world with. If I have a faction, I'm liable to eventually create unique personalities for at least 20 of its members.

The tech level can be from something like Mass Effect to Doctor Who. We can only have part of the galaxy explored to the whole thing. It's all up to you guys.

I'd like to have only a few parts of the Galaxy explored at the start, with the Factions being fledgling civilizations and the characters play some role in the exploration of the galaxy. I've been in too many FT RPs where everyone is already huge, already has everything figured out, and I lost interest in those rather quickly.

I can get behind that. Pursuant to that rule, I'd propose that FTL propulsion start off somewhat slow. For instance, it might take days to travel between systems, and years to go from one end of explored space to the other. Faster than that and it becomes hard to explain why most of the galaxy hasn't been surveyed already. (This doesn't need to rule out instantaneous travel over short distances, such as ship-to-ship or intra-system transit, for those who want teleporters.)

One thing I'd like to see in particular is a lot of home-brewed technologies. If these are all fledgling civilizations, it's likely that they would all have developed FTL and other things independently. So you might have one race that uses wormholes, one race that uses an Alcubierre drive, one race that uses a tachyon shunt, and so on.

If I contribute, I'll probably be building a civilization rather than an individual character.

Oh I would much rather prefer a number of star systems colonized, but it doesn't have to be the whole galaxy.
