--A Toss of Power--

Image

"Power? My friend, power cannot be defined. Power is whatever it manifests in. Power is the edge of one's sword. Power is the weight of a merchant's purse. Power is the prettiness of a maiden's face. Power is the faith of a priest. Power is what rests in a scholars mind. And you sir, have much of it."

Introduction

90 years ago, on the continent of Ettolium, a conflagration of war swept across the land. The Kingdom of Destrus, backed by its ally Vyncis, engulfed the huge expanse of nations in a massive conflict for their homeland. One by one, Destrus conquered the free nations of Ettolium and brought them under the iron-fist rule of King Theran. Since then, despite the various factions of Ettolium being dominated by Destrus, the continent has enjoyed an era of peace and well-being, dubbed Pax Ettolia. Many nations became independent in everything but name, and slowly rebuilt their infrastructure after it was shattered by the Ettolium War.

Now, the continent is under the threat of being torn apart by war yet again. In a stunning act of rebellion, the Isle of Vyncis assassinated King Theran III and took hold of the throne. They stated that all nations previously under the Kingdom of Destrus' rule were now free, and burned the capital city of Destrus: Cafeld, to the ground. With every faction and nation now officially independent, some are beginning to form their own regimes and plans for Ettolium. New alliances form and break in the blink of an eye, and the long-extinguished fires of hatred between kingdoms is rekindled.

Will Ettolium unite under one banner and enter another age of peace and prosperity, or will it be plunged into yet another war?

Summary and Rules

Hello Nationstates, this is the reboot of the roleplay "A Toss Of Power". In this world, you will roleplay as a nation or faction that was recently freed from the rule of the Kingdom of Destrus. What you do as that nation or faction is entirely up to you and your ideals. You will have a very free range of action within the roleplay. Conquer and destroy? Sure. Isolate yourself and quietly feed your people? Of course! Wind a web of lies and deceit and create and dissolve political unions? Go wild. However, whatever you do decide to indulge yourself in, there are a few rules.

1. I am OP, and my Co-OP is Lorellion.
2. Me being OP, my word is law. Same rule applies to Lorellion.
3. Treat other roleplayers with respect.
4. On the topic of magic, it is in full use. However, magic users are looked upon by many common folk, and are kept in check by ruling parties.
5. Please format your posts well, nobody likes reading a huge block of text.
6. Good-quality roleplaying is expected. Those who post one-liners will be asked to edit them.
7. This is a two-offense system. One offense, and you get warned. Two offenses, you are kicked from the roleplay and barred from re-entering.

Technology is strictly medieval. Firearms are not allowed, even the primitive Chinese variants. However, alternatives to firearms are encouraged, if any faction has the ingenuity to create such a device. Greek fire is also disallowed.

Trying to decide if I should continue with the Acondril Covenant or make something new. I'm sort of leaning towards something new.

Capitol Population: 40,000
Location: Peninsula that stretches up from the southern continent. It touches the island chain in the middle of the map(The Disputed Lands)
Geography: Inlands are very hilly with small forests and lakes sprawling across the landscape. The inlands are very rural, due to the rocky soil, so most people make their livings along the coasts in the larger cities. Kaldar is the capital and largest port city.

Notable House Members: Queen Sylina Acandra, Hekdar Acandra(brother of Sylina), Erikur Acandra(brother of Sylina), Kartan Acandra(uncle of Sylina and advisor)

Culture
Ideology and Culture: The territory is known for its sea-faring ways. It is customary that to be a sophisticated, worldly person, you must have taken a voyage to see the sights of the world. Some of the people can be seen as opinionated, out spoken, and loud in general. Unlike in many places, magic is permitted and widely accepted. The queen herself is even a sorceress. Some of the noble houses of this territory are against magic, and one riot even turned into a full-scale rebellion. This rebellion killed Sylina's father and Sylina then took the throne to put down the rebellion. Women and men are seen as equals. Queen Sylina's goal is to free all those who have been persecuted for their magical abilities, and will go to war to end the oppression of those like her.

Culture
Ideology and Culture: Vyncis is a very mysterious nation. They value their own aspirations and regimes much more than the well-being of others, which led to their overthrow of Destrus and King Theran III. As a whole, they see cunning and strength as the two true traits of a leader. They rarely engage in negotiations, and if they do it is because the nation in question serves a purpose to Vyncis. Most Vyncithians are rarely seen outside their homeland. And if they are noticed outside of Vyncis, then they are probably a terrible agent or they want to be seen. It is customary in Vyncis for boys to join the military. Magic, as a whole, is somewhat distrusted by the general populace. However, a small sect of specially-trained magic users have been employed to the military.

Questionia? Is this all human world, or can we maintain more freedom with the major species of our nations? I'd like to know before writing something up.

A certain level of variation is allowed, sure. Obviously, a whole kingdom of pixies is a bit too far, to use an example.

Very good.

Now I found myself asking more questions.
One: There seems to be a very large focus on royal houses in the application, possibly under the assumption that all governments in the realm would be ruled by monarchy and/or similar political process. Is it required that a nation in Ettolium be a monarchy (and/or similar political process), or can other government types and set-ups be in place?
Two: On the subject of 'magical' creatures and their intelligences. For clarification, what is the current status of particular creatures such as dragons, gryphons, etc; and their intelligence, assuming they exist in this world? What I am asking, what is be probably that you find at least one (1) dragon living in a nation? If so, would this dragon be a mindless beast to be let lone or slain if a disruption, or would this dragon be of particular mental capacity to (assuming if willing and wanting) become a citizen of a particular nation? Or, is this entire scenario entirely out of the question. I'd like to know the full ins-and-outs of this world before taking an entire step into it.

As for your first question: Royal houses are not the only type of governmental bodies in
Ettolium. Councils and republics and etc. are encouraged.
Pertaining to your second question: Certain magical creatures do exist on Ettolium, though in very limited number. Countless wars and fervent hunting have diminished the numbers of mythical wildlife to a mere shadow of what they once were. A few of these creatures are sentient enough to engage in peaceful interaction with humans(for example, my faction has trained and bred a small number of dragons to be used in warfare. However, I don't think they're sentient enough to become citizens per se. You won't be finding yourself playing chess with a dragon/gryphon/etc.

Nationstates Name: Yuzhou
Faction General Info
Full Faction Name: The Grand Khanate of the Yenisa Peoples
Short Faction Name: The Yenisa Khanate (or just Yenisa)
Ruling House: House Tola
Individual Ruler: Kaimuyok Tolajin {Tola}
Total Population: 325,000
Capitol: Khododakot
Capitol Population: 89,000
Location: Just so pro....so...pro.
Geography: A generally flat area comprised of gentle and smooth hills. Small patches of forest dot the landscape, but tend to be heavily spread out. The climate grows colder as you head south, with the landscape becoming even more desolate, frozen tundra and snow fields blanket the most southern reaches year round. Two large rivers snake their way across the landscape, the Kairem and Utan, both of which parent tributaries and streams that stretch out like veins. The capitol is located on the banks of the Utan, and relies on the river heavily. The coastline is a bit more fertile, with forests growing larger, however the land is still flat. One lake sits in the western section of the territory, lake Bagodai, a small lake in comparison to those outside of the territory, specifically in the west.

House Information
House Name: House Tola
House Banner: Cheesy I know, but I tried. Just imagine it more epic, you get the basic idea.
House Motto: "With guidance we start, with will... we conquer"
Notable House Members:

Kentosa Tolajin- General, brother to Kaimuyok
Kama Tolajin- General, Sister to Kaimuyok

Culture
Ideology and Culture: The Yenisa people are fiercely independent, having been known to fight to the death or choose death over subjugation. They bow only to the khan because he represents any organization the people have, without him they would not be capable of any greatness, however in his absence they would continue to thrive. It took terrible warfare and incredibly brilliant diplomatic moves to bring the Yenisa under the banner of Destrus {If I understood the opening post correctly*} in the first place. While they are spirited by nature, they are far from barbaric. The Yenisa are required by custom and law to be hospitable and generous, any traveler and stranger can find a warm meal and place to stay in any Yenisa village. Khododakot stands as a marvel of a capitol city, it continues to grow and flourish. The ancient city of Omododakot in the extreme south is made almost completely of ice, wood, and snow and continues to be a large city and powerful stronghold. Despite this, a large majority of the Yenisa population live outside of the cities, in both moving and permanent settlements. Tent villages can be seen across the land in the north, whilst igloo settlements are erected in the icelands. This has lead to a culture built for mobility, and thus the horse is one of the most bred and used animals of the Yenisa peoples in both military and domestic cases. Yenisa society is non-sexist, with both men and women sharing roles, this includes equal opportunity in the military, with women warriors and commanders seen commonly. While the khanship is inherited, once a family is ousted, dies out, or abdicates, the new family is elected by the chieftains.

House Tola is a young branch of a now extinct house that once ruled the city of Omododakot. House Tola itself started off as minor cavalry commanders and managed to work their way up. Being one of the few contenders for khanship after the release of all nations under the former kingdom of Destrus, their election was based solely on their ownership of Khododakot. Due to this, house Tola has a lot to prove, and they are ever so eager to bring glory to the Yenisa peoples and re-establish the power of the ancient khans. Regardless, the world's view of them is atleast, in their eyes, questionable, and it stands true that with their current situation they may be in need of allies.

Religion: The Yenisa people have always followed the guidance of "Father heavens"{Tuta} and "Mother earth"{Gemi}. A Yenisa is always content under a clear blue sky and prefers to live life with their feet on the ground and their eyes drinking in the vastness of the landscape and heavens. The holy symbol is the north star. The Yenisa believe it lays on Tuta's forehead, between his eyes, and that it therefor signifies his gaze upon the world. Yenisa do all religious rituals at night under a clear sky so that Tuta may witness the events. They believe that the star guides them and that as long as it shines in the sky that they will prosper no matter the hardship. Both the Kairem and Utan rivers are holy as well, they are seen as the veins of Gemi and are the life sources for the land and people. Lake Bagodai was said to be created by both Gemi and Tuta's tears when they cried at the beauty of the life they made, and is thus incredibly holy to the Yenisa people as well.

Nationstates Name: Yuzhou
Faction General Info
Full Faction Name: The Grand Khanate of the Yenisa Peoples
Short Faction Name: The Yenisa Khanate (or just Yenisa)
Ruling House: House Tola
Individual Ruler: Kaimuyok Tolajin {Tola}

I'll post an app soon but first I'd be interested if you told me some limits of the magic attribute. Please.

Magic has no absolute limits, it is very malleable in Ettolium. However, obviously, no wizard is going to have cataclysmic power.

So what level ( number of points ) would transmogrification (transform into an animal physically) be? May I ask?

Well, I'd say that would probably be 8 or higher. Basically 0-3 is minimal knowledge of magic, minor wizards and whatnot. 4-7 is average magic, with small sects of somewhat powerful wizards. 7+ is advanced magic knowledge.

Ok thank you. Also industry and economy are fairly similar , would we have to have them close in terms of points? (What would there points represent? In terms of levels)
